The HS105 turns any of your standard devices into a "Smart" device. Once you start using this, you will quickly see the benefits. This is especially apparent if you own an Amazon Alexa device (echo/dot). The build quality is very good. It is sturdy and certainly doesn't feel flimsy or cheap. The design of this product is where it really shines. One of the biggest complaints of most Smart Plugs is there bulky size which in turn means that they often cover/obstruct more than one power outlet. I was pleased to find that TP-Link has overcome this issue with this newly designed Smart Plug. What's more impressive is how simple the solution was – making a wider Smart Plug, instead of a taller Smart Plug! Good move TP-Link! Since this is considerably smaller, I was worried that the range (distance away from the Wi-Fi router) would be affected. I had no issues, and I was able to plug this device a reasonable distance away from my Wi-Fi router. The scheduling aspect is great! There are a lot of variables you can set. Time (hours and minutes, am/pm), switch action (on or off), and repeat (days of week - you can select one individual day, every day, or a combination of days). A programmed event requires two "events" in the app, a switch action "on" and a switch action "off". This is useful if you have a routine with turning on/off a device in your home. Some uses I have for this HS105 are for lamps, entertainment units, irons, fans or just about anything you want to conveniently turn on/off or set timers for. Overall this is a fantastic Smart Plug that works flawlessly. This review was submitted as part of a free sample program.

Absolutely Perfect Smart Wi-Fi Power Plug

This one is a home-run ! The TP-Link HS105 Smart Wi-Fi Plug is a perfect solution for remotely controlling any device that you would plug into a standard 120volt wall socket. It is a perfect size, so it does not block the second wall plug, and two HS105's will even fit side-by-side in a standard dual plug wall outlet. Installation and setup takes less than 5 minutes. You simply download the TP-Link KASA APP to your iPhone or Android device, plug the HS105 into an outlet, and then launch the KASA Application and follow the simple prompts to configure the Wi-Fi plug to operate to any schedule that you may want. It also works with the Amazon Alexa, further simplifying your remote control options. I have used two of these to control the scheduling of on/off times for two cabinet light sets that plug in to separate outlets on either side of my fireplace. We have a lot of power interruptions where I live, and my old rotary timers were always getting out of synch with each other, in addition to always needing to be re-set after power outages. The two power outlets are in the lowest cabinets and back on the wall - a real pain to get to. This is NO LONGER A PROBLEM! With the lights plugged into the HS105's, I just set the schedules, and they run perfectly, correcting to the actual time based on my wireless router's time which updates automatically when power is restored. Disclaimer: Submitted as part of a free sample program I will be buying a few sets of HS105's for the Christmas season. I have the same synching and remote on/off scheduling problems in multiple locations when the Holiday lights are out. It will be very nice to be able to control all of those to any schedule that I want from the comfort of my chair (or bed) ! I haven't tried the Away Mode and remote scheduling feature the HS105's while traveling yet, but this is clearly a very handy feature that I plan to use. All in all, I am very satisfied with these programmable plugs, and I highly recommend them!

I would 100% recommend this plug to anyone looking to add voice-control on/off capabilities to any "non-smart" device- from lights, to small appliances, to TVs. Set-up is a breeze, and it syncs with Google Home and Amazon Echo devices without any issues. The scheduling features are great too, as you can put a sleep timer on a device, or set a device to turn on/off at a certain time for each day of the week, or the same time every day. The plug does make a clicking noise when it's switched on and off, but I actually don't mind that- in a troubleshooting case, it indicates to me that the switch portion of the plug is working. The only downside I can really think of is that when plugged into a power strip, the plug may block other outlets, but that's pretty typical for most smart plugs I've considered. For me personally, I bought the plug for an older TV- I stream media with Chromecast, but I had to use the TV remote for power, as the TV doesn't support HDMI-CEC. As with most people, I'm pretty good at misplacing remotes, so there was always a minute or two of "where's the remote?!" Now, I can control everything on the TV with the Google Assistant, either with voice or through the Home app. The plug also worked well for my parents to add voice-control capabilities to their Christmas tree lights, as the outlet and switch were in pretty hard to reach places behind the tree. Now, they can just tell Alexa to turn on the Christmas tree instead of fumbling to reach the outlets.

I have all the lights in the house connected with the Philips Hue bulbs and app on my cell phone to control them through Alexa or just use my cell phone to turn them off and on if not at home. You could use your cell phone alone, if you don't have Alexa or Google Assist. You can do the same with these plugs...use their app or connect the app to Alexa or Google Assist. I have a floor lamp that has multiple small bulbs and the cost would have been pretty high for individual smart bulbs, if that size are even available in smart bulbs. I bought a set of two of these smart plugs and put them both to good use. This past Christmas I plugged in the Christmas tree to one of the plugs and the floor lamp got plugged into the other one. When I wanted to turn the Christmas tree on or off, all I had to do was say "Alexa, turn on Christmas tree" or "Alexa, turn off Christmas tree". It is nice not to have to bend down behind the tree and unplug it and plug it back in to turn it off and on. With the floor lamp, all I have to do is say, "Alexa, turn on floor lamp" or "Alexa, turn off floor lamp". This would be a great way to start on your way to a smart house to see if you like the idea of turning lights on and off with just your voice instead of a switch. Start small and if you like it go big. Working toward a smart house is pretty addictive.

Smart plug mini is a real space saver

    Posted
    RonJon

Installation was blissfully easy on my Android and iOS devices via the intuitive Kasa app, which holds your hand through the entire process. During testing, the TP-Link Smart Plug never lost its connection to our WiFi network, and the handy Remote Control feature lets you easily control your plug even when you’re away from home. There’s even a clever “Away” mode that turns your lights on and off at random to make potential burglars think you’re home when you’re not. Like its bigger brother, the Smart Plug Mini enjoys easy setup on iOS and Android, a great mobile app, convenient remote control, integration with Amazon Alexa, and neat extra features like the aforementioned Away Mode. Unlike its sibling, however, it only covers a single outlet regardless of where you position it. It’s one of the smallest plugs, making it a great choice for buyers who don’t have a lot of space. Unfortunately, it also costs more than the Smart Plug with Energy Monitoring and, well, doesn’t offer energy monitoring. In other words, you need to be really concerned about space to choose it over the slightly larger alternatives from TP-Link and iDevices. Price and features aside, this plug is every bit as solid a performer as its stablemate: I had no issues with connectivity during the testing period, and it was very responsive to commands on both iOS and Android devices. If you find it on deep discount and don’t need energy monitoring functionality, it’s a very good choice. Review submitted as part of a free sample program

Appreciating HS-105 after Wemo Mini saga

I bought four Wemo Minis on the strength of a CNET review, but was completely frustrated by the effort to set them up. After six exasperating hours I admitted defeat and swapped them for five TP_Link HS-105s and some change. The first one was up and going in five minutes and does exactly what it's supposed to, including remembering its settings through power failures and moving from one outlet to another. All the others set up as smoothly. Google Assistant didn't want to talk to them initially, but we learned the verbal command had to include "the" (name of plug) as in "Hey Google, please turn on THE Christmas Tree" instead of "HG turn on Christmas Tree" which would beget "Sorry, I don't know how to do that". I'm pretty sure that's not a TP_Link problem! I'd have given the HS-105 five stars without the Wemo Mini experience, but I probably would not have bothered to review it, simply assuming these things all work as they are advertised. That's not what I discovered! Consequently I have reviewed both products and hope the accounts of my experience with them are helpful to you. Best regards...

Solution to control Home Devices thru your Network

I received the HS105 Smart WiFi Plug as part of a review program. Similiarly, as before, I like to point out that I’m technical, but not an IT person or a hacker or anything like that. In fact, I’m a FamilyMan with multiple users (teenagers) and thus multiple devices hooked into my router. Usually anywhere from 20-25 devices. And this Smart WiFi Plug works directly within my needs because I have a second house and this device helps me manage my home devices from afar. First, let’s talk about setup. The HS105 smart plug is – well – plugged directly into an open wall socket. I then opened (or for someone new, you’ll need to download) the TP-Link Kasa app. I then pressed the button in the app that requested for me to add a new device and BAM! There is was, it then asked me to click the button in the app which gave it the command to link into my established home network and BAM! It connected, that’s it, nothing more to do other than give it a personal name (Kitchen Plugin). I can’t make this up, it was that easy! So, what’s cool about this is that I can now control a light, schedule it, etc to act as if I’m home even when I’m not. I can schedule a timer, or tell it I’m away! All in all a very simple and useful tool to have whether in my case at my second home, or even at my primary residence to control the lights in my teenagers bedroom to get him to go to sleep! It also works with Alexa if you have one of those.

Versatile Smart Plug With Alexa Compatibility

I love this smart plug because of its small size and its compatibility with Alexa devices for voice control. But you don't need an Alexa device, just a smart phone running iOS or Android so that you can set it up and control the advanced features such as scheduling. It's easy to use and easy to set up. I appreciate that TP-LINK has placed a power button on the side of the plug so that I can power off whatever is plugged into it without getting out my smart phone. Because I have Alexa devices, the voice commands (on and off only) make it especially convenient. You can plug a TV or a slow cooker or a lamp into the outlet -- anything that can be left turned on when the power is cut or resumed by the smart plug. The free Kasa app is for iOS, which I use, and Android phones and tablets. Set up and programming is easy using the app. I occasionally have had to reboot my plug because it isn't responding, but that's rare. Mostly, I can access it whenever I want. I especially like the scheduling aspect so that I can have my TV come on for a specific amount of time to keep my bird company. (Yeah, I know.) This smart plug is a good place to start if you aren't yet sure whether you'll warm to the whole smart home idea. If you do like it and if you're like me, you'll want to get more than one. I've been getting into trying to make our home to be a smart home that can be controlled through our phones and tablets. These smart plugs are great to add into any room light and it's easy to turn on and off a whole room with just one of them. Setup for this smart-plug is super easy and quick. Just plug it in, connect your smartphone to the wifi on the device, then using the Kasa app just point the device to use your home network and that's pretty much it. Then you can control the smart plug through the Kasa app on your phone or tablet. You can even set schedule to have them turn on at a certain of the day. Which is cool! Another thing that I like about these plugs is that it is easy to integrate with Alexa. If you have an Echo device you can easily just tell Alexa to turn on your Living Room Lights, Fans or whatever you have plugged into it. You can also have a power strip control multiple devices and plug the power strip into the Smart Plug. Overall, I really like these smart plugs and would highly recommend them to anybody that wants to add more control to their future smart home.

I bought two of these after I bought a Google Home Mini. I was curious to see how it would work. I put one in my family room and one in the living room to control the table lamps. The two wifi plugs work very well. Once I loaded the Kasa app on my Android phone, connected to my network, and linked it to my Google Home app, my Google Home mini quickly went to work. It understood the commands without any problems. All I had to do was change the device names to make it easy for me to remember. The Kasa mobile app also allows you to turn the lamps on and off using your phone or time them to come on at a certain hour if you're not home. Overall satisfied with this purchase. I just purchased the wall switch and and it works like a champ too.

These were part of a bundled promo with purchase of Amazon Echos during the holidays. My expectations were low since these were marked down so much, but I figured what the heck. So glad I purchased these. They were very easy to set up. The Kasa app on my iPhone walked me through the steps without a hitch... there are a couple points in the setup where you need to leave the app (if memory serves me right, one to go to your WiFi settings and another to open a browser). Each of the three smart plugs was up and running within a couple minutes. They've been connected to lights and a baby monitor ever since without any glitches. I'm pretty comfortable with technology in general, and I suspect most people would have the same experience. Though my elderly parents could probably use a hand getting these up and running if they had to, but if they were setting up their own, I'd probably do it for them so they're not trying to figure out how to temporarily disconnect their phones from their home wifi to pair with the smart plug and then jump back on their network.

Great WiFi Plug With Home Automation Support

The TP-Link smart WiFi plug is great; the mini plug is wonderful. In particular, the HS105 is a mini-plug that will not cover up the second plug on an outlet. This is great as it keeps the outlet available for other items. The switch feels pretty hardy. The on light on the switch is not to bright and has a good dim to it. The switch uses TP-Link's Kasa app. The Kasa app is great. It has many options including scenes and really makes it simple for controlling the outlet. The switch also works great with Google Home and Google Assistant. It allows me to use my Google Assistant to turn on and off the switch. It’s actually really convenient. I have mine connected to a lamp in our office which is really helpful. The app also allows for scheduling which allows me to setup certain times to have the switch power on as needed. It’s a powerful app and even better since it works with my Google Assistant on my phone as well. Though this review was submitted as part of a free sample program, I have no hesitation in recommending the HS105. It will be a great addition to anyone’s home automation setup.

We are new to using home technology products. We started with the purchase of a Google Home Mini speaker. It is excellent for providing information, but we wondered how we could control items in the house through it. Enter the TP-Link Smart Wi-Fi Plug Mini. We bought one and was able to seamlessly add it to our network. We used in the a floor lamp in the Family Room. Our Google Home Mini speaker was able to recognize it and is now turning the lamp on with just our voice commands. The Wi-Fi Plug Mini also acts as a timer and automatically turns the lamp on and off at times we specify through the app This purchase is actually our second plug which we use to control a table lamp in our Master Bedroom. Google now recognizes both plugs and we are able to individually or collectively control both lamps This is a great start to building our home network of technology-controlled items.

These are great switches. Simple with very solid performance. The app is just what it needs to be. Simple. And it works as you’d expect. At home or away you can quickly and easily turn these switches, and whatever you have plugged into them, on and off. We have a lamp plugged into one. I was texting the family from my work and would turn the light on and off without a hitch and they could confirm it’s operation. We also have 2 web cameras set up in the house, which also work with the same Kasa app. It’s cool to turn the light on and off and watch it via the cameras. It gives you confidence in the products and the app when you can watch and verify their operation.

Prior to using the HS105, I was using the HS100 which I love. It is THE solution for Alexa integration. Now I have to add the HS105 to that recommendation as well. In fact, it is even better as the HS105 only takes up one wall outlet leaving the other open for use. The HS100 and HS110 both block the other outlet preventing its use. The HS105 is directly integrated with Alexa and can be configured to work locally or remotely, if you want to operate it while away. The setup process could not be easier. The TP-Link Kasa application walks you through the setup process. It will also allow you to configure a schedule for when to turn on/off. Additionally, there is an away mode which turns your devices on and off at different times to give the appearance that someone is home. Comparing these to Wemo, they are more stable. I've not had any connection issues with these whereas I have had a couple with Wemo, especially when unplugging the device from the wall. This review was submitted as part of a free sample program.

This is the first add-on device I have bought for my Google Home. Set up was pretty easy with it’s own app downloaded from the Apple store to my iPhone. The WiFi connected without a problem. Directions aren’t supper clear, but weren’t too difficult to figure out. Getting it to work with Google Home took going to the Help files, but they explained it well. Once working it’s fantastic. I use it simply as a smart timer for my living room lamp. Programming from the app is pretty easy and all info, including WiFi connection is retained even if you move to a different outlet. Voice commands to Google to turn the lamp on or off does not interfere with the programming from the app - on/off times, vacation programming, etc. I will be buying another one for other devices.

My needs weren't at all exotic... all I wanted was to be able to use my phone during my commute to turn on a lamp in my front room at home. I've got dogs and it's easier to get the door open without any of them squeaking past me if I can first see inside. I have good Wi-Fi and (at least at this point in time) have no plans to go crazy and set up my entire house to be remotely adjusted. Just wanted a lamp to go off/on and not break the bank doing it. I was advised that this mini-plug was just what I was after, so I gave it a try. Works perfect. Just followed the onscreen prompts and set up was easy. Now I can click on the correct icon on the phone's app and, when I walk up to my front door, the front room is lit. This was exactly what I was looking for; no dimming, no color changing, just a remote off/on switch for the device of my choice. Recommended.

This switch is easy to use and works perfectly. It is very easy to install and setup. I was able to pair it with Alexa by going into the setting in the KASA app for the device and toggle the “Remote” button. The switch is versatile. it can be programmed to turn on and off on schedule, it can be remotely turned on and off. You can still manually turn it on/off. It only takes one of the outlet/receptacle space and keeps the other outlet free for some other use. The away mode was helpful when I connected the lamp to the switch and it turned on and off the lamp randomly which simulate someone is home. I haven’t had any issue after it was setup. The switch is pretty reliable. I love this product. Now, I can control the connected device remotely using KASA app. Overall, I am very happy with the switch. I recommend the switch to others. I purchased the item as a black friday add on to my Amazon Dot. All I can say is that I love using this with the lamps in my living room. I hated having to go around the room to turn them all on and off. Especially when I found that the kids had taken the knobs off. Now all I have to do is say, "Alexa, turn on lamps" or "Alexa, turn off lamps" and presto, they turn on or off, knobs or no knobs. Piece of cake. I did have to connect all the lamps on one line with an extension cord so that it would go around the room but the cord is hidden with furniture so no one can see it. I also had another plug set up to my christmas tree. It was great to be able to turn it on and off without having to go behind the tree to unplug it. Overall set up was easy. Works perfectly with Alexa. Would buy more if I needed them. i'm thinking about going for some light switches next. Have fun!!!
