Bought this at suggestion of BB staff for my mother in assisted living. They do not have secured network, so device not workable for me.

For Alexa to control the Smart device, and to control the device when you're away, you'll need to create a free Kasa account, which can be done using the steps outlined in our FAQ here: http://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-946.html
Once the Smart device is added to your network and account you can then add the skill to Alexa as shown here: http://www.tp-link.com/en/faq-944.html

They work, just aren't great

But apparently TP Link could compromise your internet. From what I've heard, don't use your main devices on the same network as the smart plugs. These plugs also drop in signal quite often. I'd look for a better brand for the price.
