The plug seems to probably work best with other TP-Link products. I tried to use it for various things (tv, lamplight, google mini) and I just was not satisfied with the item. I will be returning it.

Never could log on to the software, never got any response from technical support! Step one, message said my email address was improper. It's the same email address I've had for over 10 years. It's the first time I've entered it so there is no record of what it is. This means I can't use the software, cant pair, can't do anything. I tried for two weeks to get a response from support. Nothing. Overall, nothing.

      Hi,

Thank you for your review. Our smart plugs, bulbs, and switches are designed for quick and easy setup using the Kasa app. If you're having difficulty connecting them to your network during setup, please ensure your router's 2.4GHz WiFi signal is sufficiently strong at the smart device's location.

Please also ensure your smartphone is not connected to a VPN during setup, as this may interfere with the installation process.

We regret to hear your initial interaction with our Support Team was anything less than satisfactory, and we would appreciate another opportunity to follow up with you to address your concerns. At your earliest convenience, please send an e-mail to USSupportTeam@TP-Link.com and include a link to your review and a copy of any correspondence you may have received from the original support agent(s).

      Thank you,

I have a dozen devices controlled by my Echo + and this is the only device have to reset weekly to have it work. The end game on this came on a recent vacation where I was turning on and off lights remotely. It FAILED to work on the first night of a two week vacation. There are a lot better devices out there. I have a dozen other devices over a year old that I have never had to reset/plug in/unplug. Don't waste your time.

      Hi MarkO,

Thank you for sharing your experience with our product. We always recommend ensuring your router's Wi-Fi signal is adequately strong in the smart device's location. Within the Kasa app there's a feature that allows you to measure Wi-Fi signal strength of your smart devices. When the app is connected, please check the signal strength in the Device Settings menu. Ideally, the reading should be greater than -70 dBm.

If the signal is within the ideal range and you're still experiencing these symptoms, please ensure your Kasa app is up to date, then update your smart device's firmware using the steps in our FAQ: http://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-1256.html

If you'd like assistance with any of these steps, please send an e-mail with your contact information and a link to this review to [email protected] and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.

Smart plug mini is a real space saver

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Installation was blissfully easy on my Android and iOS devices via the intuitive Kasa app, which holds your hand through the entire process. During testing, the TP-Link Smart Plug never lost its connection to our WiFi network, and the handy Remote Control feature lets you easily control your plug even when you’re away from home. There’s even a clever “Away” mode that turns your lights on and off at random to make potential burglars think you’re home when you’re not. Like its bigger brother, the Smart Plug Mini enjoys easy setup on iOS and Android, a great mobile app, convenient remote control, integration with Amazon Alexa, and neat extra features like the aforementioned Away Mode. Unlike its sibling, however, it only covers a single outlet regardless of where you position it. It’s one of the smallest plugs, making it a great choice for buyers who don’t have a lot of space. Unfortunately, it also costs more than the Smart Plug with Energy Monitoring and, well, doesn’t offer energy monitoring. In other words, you need to be really concerned about space to choose it over the slightly larger alternatives from TP-Link and iDevices. Price and features aside, this plug is every bit as solid a performer as its stablemate: I had no issues with connectivity during the testing period, and it was very responsive to commands on both iOS and Android devices. If you find it on deep discount and don’t need energy monitoring functionality, it’s a very good choice. Review submitted as part of a free sample program

    Small and Simple

The HS105 kit (2 pack) is a nice little unit for those wanting to have some control over existing electrical plugs. They are rated for use with standard 110v 15amp outlets. They can easily integrate with your in home wireless through the downloadable KASA mobile application. The units were quick to setup, especially if you already have the app installed and they are small enough that you can use two in a single two outlet plug or not block the second receptacle like the HS110 unit does. The HS105 is a nice option for simple home automation. Submitted as part of a free sample program.

      Hi,

Thank you for your review. Our smart plugs are designed to provide convenient, smart automation features for your home. Please bear in mind the HS105 Smart Plug is designed to allow or prevent electrical flow to the appliance that's plugged into it; however this also requires the wall outlet to be providing power. If the wall outlet is controlled by a switch, please ensure it is left on so the smart plug can properly control the lamp.

If your wall outlet isn't controlled by a light switch, please ensure the lamp's switch is left on for the smart plug to effectively control its power state.

Bought this for Christmas, along w/ Alexa, and was our first "smart home" purchase. Didn't set up till May....it only works with 2/4Gh networks so worthless to me. Also, it does not say this ANYWHERE on the package, it only says "works with existing wifi network." Thanks Best Buy for recommending with my Alexa purchase.

      Hi Valerie,

We’ll be more than happy to help address the concerns you have about 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity. The 2.4GHz frequency is used in this case primarily for the following reasons:

      - Doesn't require a separate hub, since the smart devices connect to your router's Wi-Fi signal.

      - Considerably farther range than 5GHz, which allows for more flexible smart device positioning.

      - Smart devices require very little bandwidth to send and receive information, so the higher bandwidth of the 5GHz frequency is unnecessary.

      - Most 5GHz capable Wi-Fi routers should also support the 2.4GHz frequency. We recommend consulting your router's documentation to verify whether or not it has this capability.

Our Support Team is always happy to listen, and answer any questions you might have about our products. Please feel free to e-mail [email protected] and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.
