Full control
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the simplest way to have remotely controlled light fixture or appliance. Plug in the HS105 into the wall outlet, and plug in the fixture into the HS105. Within few minutes had it configured through the Kasa application. It connected to the 2.4GHz network and I was able to fully control it with my phone. This version of smart plug occupies only one plug, leaving the other plug available. Using an app, it can be programmed to operate on schedule. HS105 is also voice controllable by Amazon Alexa.

Posted .Hi,
Thank you for your feedback. The 2.4GHz frequency is used in this case primarily for the following reasons:
- Does not require the user of a separate “Smart Hub” – our smart devices conveniently connect to your existing WiFi router.
- 2.4GHz provides considerably farther range than 5GHz, which allows for more flexible smart device positioning.
- Smart devices require very little bandwidth to send and receive information, so the higher bandwidth of the 5GHz frequency is unnecessary.
- Most 5GHz capable WiFi routers should also support the 2.4GHz frequency. We recommend consulting your router's documentation to verify whether it has this capability.
Our Support Team is always happy to answer any questions you might have about our products. Please feel free to e-mail [email protected] and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.

Posted .Hi Chuckie,
We’ll be more than happy to help address the concerns you have about 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity for your Smart Plug Mini. The 2.4GHz Wi-Fi spectrum is the industry standard frequency for most smart home products, and this standard is not exclusive to TP-Link products. The 2.4GHz frequency is used in this case primarily for the following reasons:
- Considerably farther range than 5GHz, which allows for more flexible smart device positioning.
- Smart devices require very little bandwidth to send and receive information, so the higher bandwidth of the 5GHz frequency is unnecessary.
- Most 5GHz capable Wi-Fi routers should also support the 2.4GHz frequency. We recommend consulting your router's documentation to verify whether or not it has this capability.
Our Support Team is always happy to listen, and answer any questions you might have about our products. Please feel free to e-mail [email protected] and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.

Appreciating HS-105 after Wemo Mini saga
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought four Wemo Minis on the strength of a CNET review, but was completely frustrated by the effort to set them up. After six exasperating hours I admitted defeat and swapped them for five TP_Link HS-105s and some change. The first one was up and going in five minutes and does exactly what it's supposed to, including remembering its settings through power failures and moving from one outlet to another. All the others set up as smoothly. Google Assistant didn't want to talk to them initially, but we learned the verbal command had to include "the" (name of plug) as in "Hey Google, please turn on THE Christmas Tree" instead of "HG turn on Christmas Tree" which would beget "Sorry, I don't know how to do that". I'm pretty sure that's not a TP_Link problem! I'd have given the HS-105 five stars without the Wemo Mini experience, but I probably would not have bothered to review it, simply assuming these things all work as they are advertised. That's not what I discovered! Consequently I have reviewed both products and hope the accounts of my experience with them are helpful to you. Best regards...
