Replaced a timer with a sensor for our Christmas light with this smart plug. Totally worth it. Good value and easy programming with your phone. Also have the Kasa smart dimmers.

Works as intended. Extra points for it requiring an app. Just scan the HomeKit code and off you go. There is an audible “click” when the plug turns on and off, but nothing crazy.

I'm late to the game on the home IoT stuff.. but this christmas I decided to go for this when I couldn't find my timer for the xmas lights. Super easy to setup, cool sunrize/sunset fearure takes the guess work out of the light on and off. I was suprised how quickly the outlet responds from the app as well.. its instantaneous, which is great.

We have a lot of these things around the house. Primarily for Christmas decorations and few year round automations in the house. We love these things. This HomeKit version does seem like it was much more difficult to get setup in the Kasa app. I don’t use HomeKit and it seemed to be interfering with getting these two to work in my app. One new feature that this version has is that the app shows power usage for these. My older ones just show time used. These were on sale and we had a few new decorations this year so I renamed some of my older ones as Christmas and kept these newer ones for the year round usage.

First of all, I have 3 Kasa Smart plugs already (the 105 models) and plenty of their lightbulbs (which are great), with which I have never had any issues during set up.
I assumed using the Apple "Home" app was *optional* with this plug, so I bought it thinking I might use in the future. It is not. There is no way to skip this step during set. You **must connect it to the Home app or exit setup**. Those are your options in the Kasa app.
Furthermore, it asks you for a code, which was not on the box or on the paper documentation inside the box - it was on the UNDERSIDE of the plug itself. So now the plug has to be plugged in and you want me to scan the code? Good luck. Ok, I took a photo of the QR code and used that so I could keep the Kasa switch plugged in. Should work now, right??? Nope. Took multiple tries, make sure you are on the right wifi bandwidth... and finally got it set up.
The old plugs were SO much easier to set up and I am opting not to use the Home app, so why can't I just skip that part or set it up later? Annoyed. This was the only one in stock at BB, but I didn't realize "with Homekit" meant "ONLY with Homekit".
If you are a dedicated Homekit user, this shouldn't be so bad - but realize the code may not be on the box, but on the underside of the plug instead - so write the code down or take a pic before plugging in. Dumb.

Product is easy to use and setup.... unless you have an Iphone because Apple loves to make things difficult.
For Android, you need to dload the Kasa app, connected the devices, then connect the GoogleHome app to the Kasa app which takes all but 1 minute.
For Apple LOL.... you need to dload the Kasa app, then connect the devices to the Kasa app, then dload the iFTTT app and manually connect and program triggers for each device in the iFTTT app and connect it to the Kasa app. Note that unless you pay for FTTT pro, you can't do grouped devices. For Example, if I wanted to turn off all of the lights in my bedroom, I would have to program triggers to turn them off 1 at a time. EVEN IF in the KASA App they are grouped.
Oh but we aren't done yet, right Apple?, then after Device -> Kasa -> iFTTT, then you need to dload the Shortcuts App, get the contents of the URL and add it to your iFTTT scripts. Then you go to your settings and connect to Siri and manually record your trigger commands.
Oh, last thing.. the smart outlets or any TP-Link smart devices can only be connected to 1 Kasa app account at a time... so.. if you don't live alone or if you have housekeepers, dog sitters, whatever, either only 1 phone can be used to control the devices or you need to give your account, password, and essentially access to your network to whoever wants to walk around with lights on in your house. I guess lights are a privilege.
