Could not get the plug connected

I bought this smart plug to use as a timer for my Christmas tree and so I could use “Alexa” to power things on and off. I don’t know if the problem is Homelink or the device, but nothing I tried worked to get this thing connected. I went online and others reported the same problem, along with some possible fixes or work-a-rounds, but none of them worked. I am a life long IT professional who knows my way around technology, and I finally just gave up and will be returning the item for something else.

Reliable Wi-Fi plug
