Customers are saying

Customers are positive about the Kasa Spot Indoor camera's picture quality, ease of use, and affordability. Many appreciate the night vision capabilities and the option for local SD card storage. However, some customers experienced challenges with connectivity, while others found the cloud storage subscription costly. Overall, the positive feedback on image quality and ease of setup outweighs the reported connectivity issues.

Cheap plastic camera that doesn't work and tp-link tech support is no help. Definitely not worth $44. Will buy a better camera elsewhere.

    Good Camera, Tons of Issues

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

For a cheap camera, it gets the job somewhat done. But there's plenty of flaws with it. GOOD -It's cheap. -Semi low profile. The black casing makes it a little easier to blend into the background so it's hard for others to see. -Good customization. You can edit sensitivity, notifications, the range of where the camera should monitor an area via an adjustable grid, notifications, motion or person alerts. HALF AND HALF -128gb SD card got full after a week. -The camera is set to 720p out the box. You'll have to manually choose 1080p after setup if you want it. You can also choose a lower quality if you choose. -1080p doesn't seem true 1080p. If you watch the stream/review clips via the app, it'll appear fine. When you move the clip to your pc to review, it seems more pixelated and around 700p rather than 1080 or 720. -Local saving via SD card. In theory this is good, but there's issues with the camera itself. It'll save a clip only if there's motion within the activity zone you set and if it's longer than the time you set. -Cheap cloud subscription. Their service is very cheap, but some functions like manual recording is locked to it. It also keeps any recordings saved in their cloud for 30 days but will be deleted afterwards. BAD -The camera fails after a few days. TPLink support forums have listed this issue since August 2019. It's November 2020 and the issue continues. The camera will overheat to a point where it suddenly stops connecting to wifi and becomes inactive in the app. However, it will still record on its own via the settings you set, yet will not deliver any notifications. The only advice TPLink Support has given was to reset the router then reset your device. This clears up any complications, but you're basically start at zero again. This has happened twice since I've owned it. The camera is working again, sadly it no longer sends notifications even though I have it set to send unlimited. Overall, it's a cheap device that does what it can. Manually resetting it every few days gets annoying. TPLink knows of issues plaguing this thing since 2019 but haven't truly solved them. If the small headache of having this thing is acceptable, I'd advise it. If not, I'd say go with another device.

Decent camera for the day not for night

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is my first experience with a home security camera I didn't want to spend more since I won't be living in my current home for more than 2 years so I rather save and equip the next home with a full system. I have the camera on the window sill facing the front door the sound quality is ok and image isn't bad during the day time for the value. As for night the camera is useless it doesn't pick up anything just pure black / window reflection I tried different angles and windows but no luck. I did notice the camera will lose wifi connection even tho my router/modem is 20 ft away. My nest thermostat works perfectly fine when Im away as I can control it without a issue.

Good for the money. It clearly sees a license plate from 15 feet but, 25 its unreadable. The app is ok, kinda confusing and if your not savy probly not your cup if tea. Using the playback feature isn't so good. If you go back to a motion detected and play, then move the spot you want to see, the image freezes. Restarted the app, did the same thing, freezes image. 3rd time same. Getting a better camera because a blurry license plate won't work in court

Thank you for your review. In your case we recommend opening your Kasa app, selecting your Kasa Cam, then navigate to Device Settings, then select Video Quality. Garbage, absolute garbage...

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought 2 D-link DCS-935L cameras on April 30, 2019. Today is September 29, 2020, so they are only 17 months old and D-link has advised me that they are at "end-of-life-cycle" and are no longer supported. Every time they lose connectivity with my router, I have to go outside and remove the cameras from my roof eaves and pergola, bring them inside, connect them to a computer by ethernet cable, and go through a lengthy programming process. Then I get to go back outside and re-install them in my roof eaves and pergola. This entire process takes several hours. Customers should be able to reprogram their cameras wirelessly, without removing and re-installing them. The apps and PC programs are constantly having problems too. For example, if Flash stops supporting D-links platform, you can't access your recorded videos. One app will let you do programming and the other won't. Their support and apps are just a mess, which makes their products garbage. I will never buy another D-link product again and I sure won't recommend them to my family and friends.

Extremely disappointed. My husband bought me this but he didn't realize you need the sim card to record. As I'm installing and hooking up, the directions say you need a sim card to record. The box says it too.. No big deal, I happily bought the sim card separately and placed it in the unit. Still can't record. I come to find out you also need to purchase a subscription to record. Well, that really po'd me. Very misleading. And I opened the sim card so I can't return it. Not that the subscription is expensive but that's not the point. The box and directions say you need a sim card to record so I bought it only to find out that is not the entire truth.

      Hi,

Thank you for your review. The Kasa Spot Indoor 24/7 Recording Camera offers various recording options. When using the Micro SD card storage option, you will be provided with the option to enable 24/7 rolling storage recording within the Kasa app. If you would prefer activity-based recording (clips recorded only when activity is detected), a Kasa Care plan subscription may be required.
