Pros: Easiest Smart Bulb to set up. Color and Brightness are both adjustable. Bulb quickly responds to user commands. Control lighting remotely over the Internet. Bulb is compatible with all routers (802.11n). Works in lamps far from your router. LED saves electricity over incandescent bulbs. LB130 lifetime equals 25 incandescent bulbs. No other costs. No hub. No additional hardware. Free Kasa App for Android and Apple devices. Kasa manually controls individual bulbs. Kasa also controls groups of bulbs (scenes). Scheduling by day, time, sunrise, sunset. Energy Usage (day, week, month) and predicted. Alexa Voice Control is fun with Echo and Dot. Joy to use. Never had a problem. No disconnects. TP-LINK Smart Bulbs have improved and personalized our home lighting control, and given us peace of mind. Our lights are scheduled to automatically switch on at sunset so the family always returns to a welcoming and safe home. This is especially comforting when I am away on a business trip. After a few weeks of use, these lights have become integrated into our everyday lives. This is a review of a free demo unit received from TP-LINK for evaluation. The LB130, is an intelligent, energy saving, 60-watt equivalent Smart LED Bulb that’s both Dimmable and Color Adjustable. It is Wi-Fi enabled and controllable from anywhere. With the LB130 it was easy to update my old house to a smart home, without replacing any fixtures or wiring. The LB130 was simple to set up and use. Installation involves screwing the LB130 into a standard light bulb socket and downloading a free Kasa App onto a phone or tablet (Android 4.1 or higher, Apple iOS 8 or higher). I added several TP-LINK Smart Bulbs in just a few minutes with the intuitive Kasa quick setup wizard. No hubs or any other hardware were required. Kasa also monitors energy use and indicates much the Smart Bulbs are saving. LB130 Smart Bulbs connect by Wi-Fi to my Archer C5400 router. I can remotely control the bulbs from anywhere in my house using the Kasa App. I also control the bulbs, over the Internet, from my office across town or when traveling. Not only can these bulbs be turned On and Off, I also adjust brightness and color. Other good features are scheduling, automation, and energy savings. LED’s reach full brightness with no warm-up time and last a very long time. The LB130 produces the same light (800 lumens) as a 60-watt incandescent bulb. However, the LB130 is more efficient, using only 11-watts at 100% brightness, and is rated for a 25,000 hour lifetime. That’s a 22.8 years lifespan at 3 hours/day use; it’s equivalent to 2.5 CFL bulbs or 25 60-watt incandescent bulbs. In addition to convenience, this LED bulb is lowering my energy cost, saving me money. According to TP-LINK the LB130 has an estimated yearly energy cost of $1.32 (based on 3 hours/day and the US average of $0.11/kWh). A 60 watt incandescent light bulb that is similarly used costs $7.23/year. So the savings is $5.91/year. These estimates are conservative because in New York City, where I live, energy costs $0.187/kWh. My savings per year by switching to an LB130 are $10.05. The more hours an LB130 is used, the greater the savings. The LB130 connects to any existing Wi-Fi network running 802.11n at 2.4GHz. A small Wi-Fi Module is imbedded within the base of the LB130. 802.11n is compatible with both new and legacy routers, and access points. 2.4GHz channels have a longer range than 5GHz. I have been using Smart Bulbs, in rooms far from my router, without any glitches. We have tablets and phones distributed throughout the house, which we use to switch Smart Bulb lights On and Off, adjust brightness, and color. This works from anywhere in the house. It also works from anywhere in the world. At night, in my bedroom, I usually check my phone to see if any lights were accidentally left On. I can turn them Off with my phone. Smart Bulbs are also part of our security system. An LB130 is in my home office desk lamp. I just swapped out and replaced the previous incandescent light bulb. It is scheduled to automatically switch On at Sunset (@25% brightness) and Off at Sunrise. This helps us avoid walking in the dark accidents and discourages burglars. If we travel our Smart Bulbs are scheduled to simulate home activity. When you initially power up a Smart Bulb it blinks three times to indicate that it is active. To Reset a bulb, turn the light switch that controls the bulb to Off. Turning the switch On and Off another three times Resets the bulb, while retaining the configuration settings. Cycling the switch On and Off five times Resets the bulb to its original factory defaults. What is huge is that devices with Alexa technology allow us to control our lighting through voice commands. My mom is an old lady and in her apartment she uses Alexa voice control to control her Smart Bulb lights. Wow!

TP-LINK's smart bulbs are quickly becoming popular due to their Amazon Echo/Alexa integration. Unlike other smart bulbs, these bulbs have the added bonus of not requiring a hub for control. The downside is there is no current integration with any of the smart hubs such as Wink or SmartThings. Like all of the other bulbs in TP-LINK's lineup, setup is very easy using TP-LINK's Kasa app. The application is well made and easy to understand. Setting the bulbs up is a simple process. Once setup, you can set them up in groups to control singularly should you desire. The Kasa app also shows daily, weekly, and monthly usage statistics of the smart bulbs. Also, Integration with Alexa is awesome and works well. The bulbs themselves are dimmable through the brightness control and allows you to set it with the 1-100% range. The light they put out is as good as my other LED bulbs which were highly rated by Consumer Reports. The bulb color range is controllable from warm yellow to bright white and can be any gradient between these points. Disclaimer: Submitted as part of a free sample program.

The TP Link hardware and Kasa app are very user friendly. I have the bulbs, a wall switch, as well as a few of the outlet switches and all of them work seamlessly together. I have them all paired up with Alexa and every time I issue her a command she executes it with the help of these TP Link devices. I would have to say that TP Link is my preferred smart home ecosystem at the moment. As for the multicolored bulb specifically, no complaints there either. It's responsive, bright as I'd ever need, and doesn't get overly hot to the touch. The Kasa app allows you to have any color you'd like and set schedules and everything else you'd expect from a smart bulb setup. I cannot compare against the Hue bulbs as I've never personally used those, but I do highly recommend the TP Link bulbs nonetheless.

    Terrible

    Nate

Sadly, this bulb is junk. It flickers all the time when set to (non soft) white, the colors are way too saturated, IFTT support is a shallow joke and the app is obnoxiously unintituative. You can't group the bulbs up so say you want to pick one color and have all your bulbs change to it, you can't. It makes you set the colors individually for every single light bulb and because the app uses a stupid color slider in order to pick which color, it is pretty much impossible to set all the lights to the same color if you dont want to use the terrible, oversaturated presets. Not to mention you can't get these lights to sync with your music or tv (like the HUE and Lifx can). Anyone who gave these a good review is just reviewing the price. I will be returning them and trying the lifx, and if that sucks too then I guess it's time to bite the bullet and get a hue setup.

      Hi Nate,

Thank you for your feedback. If you're experiencing flickering with your LB130 Smart Bulb, we first recommend ensuring the bulb is installed in a socket/fixture that doesn't have its own built-in dimmer. We also recommend making sure your Kasa app is fully up to date, and the bulb has the latest firmware update as shown in our FAQ here: http://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-1256.html

You can use the Kasa app's "Scene" function to create and easily control a custom scene for multiple smart bulbs at once, as shown here: https://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-1234.html

If you’d like assistance with any of these steps, please send an e-mail with your contact information and a copy of this review to Kasa.Support@TP-Link.com and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.

This is a well made LED bulb that has so many colors, I have yet to find one it can't do. It's a simple install using the TP-Link Kasa App and either Google Home or Alexa. As you learn the install, don't be frustrated if the 1st attempt doesn't go well, it's an easy reset and install. Once you have the hang of it, adding additional bulbs, switches or outlet smart home TP-Link equipment, the number or Smart Home attachments are unlimited. With a 2 year warranty and a life span that's years, this is a good investment. White, Amber, Colors or dimmed to your choice this is a bulb for all occasions. It's nice to not need a HUB or additional equipment to use this. Other than knowing that TP-Link makes great equipment, the ease of Wi-Fi built in, makes this a first choice for anyone that wants a color choice bulb that works beautifully.

I decided to try this bulb for the first time because it was compatible with Alexa. It was significantly cheaper than the LIFX bulbs which I love and I decided to give it a shot. It was easy to install and to add to my Smart home network. The only problem that I have encountered is that it tends to disconnect and you have to re-added to your wireless network. The color schemes are great, they're bright, and they always wow my guests. I would happily give this five stars if I didn't have to reconnect it. That being said, it is a great bulb and I highly recommend it. Just remember that it's only 800 lm. Most other bulbs are as high as 1100 lm so while it is bright there are ones on the market that are brighter. I am happy with this purchase and will probably buy another one.

I've turned my house into a smart home over the past few years. I've swapped out all the switches etc...to control all the lights, fans, garbage disposal etc.., Everything in my house can be done manually or by voice (Locks, blinds, Curtains, TV). I wanted to see what using a smart bulb would be like. Just screw it in open the app and it blinks 3 times and it's set up. Pretty simple and you can control all bulbs together or individually. It's just expensive compared to buying a switch for $36 and controlling all the lights, but I do like the freedom to control the bulbs. I use it with Amazon echo. Still trying to tune it to the correct white balance.

This is a cool product, I think it's packaged very well and seems to be of high quality. The thing that bugs me is every time I have a power glitch or outage I have to reset the bulb. I don't mean a simple reset, i mean as if you just purchased it and have to tell the app about a new bulb. I've lost power twice since owning this...when I lose power the lights stay in the ON position...so I woke up one day to literally all my lights being on in the house...I re-added all the bulbs again then it happened again...forget that noise.

      Hi,

Thank you for sharing your experience with our product. The LB130 shouldn't need to be reset after your home recovers from a power outage. Once power is restored and your Wi-Fi router is back online, and if the bulbs don't automatically re-connect, simply turn the light switch controlling the bulbs off, then back on (just once), and they should re-join your network and resume normal operation.

Our Support Team is always happy to answer any questions you might have about our products. Please feel free to e-mail Kasa.Support@TP-Link.com and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.

Great affordable bulb to upgrade home

I tested another one of these a couple months back for TP-Link. I've since bought a half dozen on my own dollar to upgrade my house. I'd also like to note that I did test about just over a half dozen different models from other non-fortune 5000 companies and they were all ok but TP-Links Wifi app has them all beat and costs less than the other companies. The app is easy to use. Open it open and turn on/off the lights. You can even set timers or adjust the hue. I'd recommend these bulbs to anyone who wants to have a smart home but not break the bank, while upgrading. Disclaimer: Submitted as part of a free sample program

This lightbulb was simple to install (screwed into the lamp as any bulb would) and was just as easy to setup as my TP Link WiFi Smart Plugs. I like that it didn't make the outlet connection bulky, it's easy to use with both the app and Google Home, and the color changes are fun if not terribly necessary. I did have to adjust to not turning the lamp off...a pure user issue. My drawbacks are that the light dims as it turns on/off and the white light isn't as white as I'd hoped. Perhaps it's user error, but I wouldn't purchase it if a pure white light is needed.

Although a little on the expensive side as far as smart LED bulbs go, the capabilities and quality of the bulb is superb. With the smart phone app, you can easily control the brightness and hue of the light. You also have the ability to change it to any party color in the visible light spectrum. Works extremely easy with Alexa and the Amazon Echo and Echo Dot, no hub required. Only downfall is that Alexa can't control the color choice of the bulb. Hopefully a software update down the line can correct the issue. Timers and a circadian mode only add to the features. Easy smart LED bulb to recommend to others.

Setup was less than 5 minutes, most of which was spent trying to remember my wifi password. The app is really easy to select an infinite amount of color combos and scenes. It worked with Google Assistant right away (I think a recent firmware upgrade addressed any concerns I had read in earlier reviews) and I can control the lights in the room as a whole or individual lamps, turning them on/off and changing color, all with my voice. The fact that no hub is needed makes these even better! Will definitely be buying more!

This is the second smart bulb I have purchased from TP-Link. I have to say it is well worth the money if you are looking for a smart bulb that doesn't require a hub or a bridge. It is easy to set up (mostly) and is very responsive. The only issue I have encountered with this brand is connectivity. It will often lose connection to the internet and or Alexa and simply not work. This issue has been addressed multiple times by TP-Link but it seems like it keeps coming back. However, they ARE addressing this issue and it has gotten slightly better since then.

My enclosed porch ceiling light doesn't have a switch inside the house so at night you have to go out into a dark room to turn it on. I put this bulb into a floor lamp, set it up from my phone after downloading the Kasa app, and was done in minutes. You'll need your Wi-Fi password for the setup so have that handy. It's nice to change the color of the bulb to match the mood--for TV watching, reading, company, etc. You can also track usage in kWh and hours, and set up schexules.

great SmartBulb that you can plug into any light/lamp socket. No hub is required, just good reliable WiFi/Internet and a registered account. Set up is easy on iPhone with their App which allows you to perform firmware updates, set the bulb to any color, or create a special scheduled (mine changes throughout the day based on the time). It works great with Alexa so I can just use my voice to turn on/off lights if needed. I only wish these were cheaper to install them throughout my house.

I've bought two of these bulbs so far for different locations on different wifi networks. That might be mitigating the issue others have where the bulbs get confused on the same network. It works great for me. My mom turns off one bulb with Alexa and I turn off the other with Google Assistant or the Kasa app. I use it most to adjust the light to a more yellow-orange color in the evening to help me and my eyes rest before I go to sleep. It's nice to not have to get up and turn off the lamp or a switch.

Works great with Google Home. However, be ready for some challenges if you use a dedicated wireless network for IOT devices (AP client isolation enabled) on your network. Just turn it off for setup process, because the bulb needs to communicate with your phone to finish set up. I had some issues while setting up all my TP-Links’s Kasa devices. Overall, excellent product. Kasa app is also very good.

Simply put, I absolutely love my new smart light bulb based on the convenience of being able to turn it on in my living room prior to my arrival home. I also like the fact that I can adjust the color of the light bulb. For example, right now I have it adjusted to a green tint to highlight my furniture and I plan to change it in the future to match the holiday seasons. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and plan to purchase more smart light bulbs very soon.

I really am happy with the light. The color isn't exactly accurate or at least doesn't appear as accurate as Hue but these don't require a bridge. the software from TP link is pretty user friendly and the setup was very easy. IFTT is the only way I'm getting the most of the bulbs but I'm ok with that for now. Got it paired up with my google home and now I'm going to make more of my fixtures smart because I don't want to ever touch a light switch again *wink*

Wasn't for sure what to expect with the bulbs. But they were VERY easy to incorporate into my SmartHome setup and have worked without issue via Alexa. If there is any negative at all, it's that I wish their brightness limit went a little higher on the brightness spectrum. It's not complaint, tho, as I knew the bulbs were essentially only 60w. Just would be nice to have brighter capability.
