Bought this as an extender. It won't stay connected for more than 24 hours at a time. It is extremely difficult to connect. The phone app won't work unless the extender is already connected. You can't depend on in to work.

      Hello Rich,

Extenders need to be placed in an open, unobstructed area that is between the router and the area the extended signal is needed, and has a strong signal from the router. If you have your extender in such a place please contact support so we can help troubleshoot this concern and get it resolved. tplink

      Hi,

Thank you for your review. If you haven't noticed a significant improvement in Wi-Fi coverage after installing the extender, we recommend relocating the unit to a position within your home where the router's Wi-Fi signal is sufficiently strong; yet far enough from the router to effectively extend its range. Please verify the RE status LED is indicating a solid connection.

We also recommend ensuring the extender's firmware is fully up-to-date using the steps outlined in FAQ 1406 on our official website: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1406/

If you would like assistance with any of these steps, please reach out to our support team using any of the resources included with the product, or from our official website, and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.

I am really disappointed in the performance of this range extender. The Geek Squad installed it, but it does very little to strengthen the signal. In fact, I still lose my wifi signal from time to time even with this device.

      Hi,

Thank you for your review. If you are experiencing difficulty connecting the extender to your router, we recommend setting up the device in the same room as your router, then relocating it after setup is complete. We also suggest re-verifying your router's Wi-Fi password during setup, or if using the WPS setup method, ensuring the WPS process is performed in the correct order. The extender's indicator LEDs will help you determine which position in your home is ideal.

We also highly recommend ensuring the extender's firmware is fully up to date using the steps outlined in FAQ 1406 on our official website: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1406/

This range extender does not work properly with all the new spectrum, modems and routers. They have an automatic channeling for 5G and 2.4 G and will not let you separate so if you have two 4G components, you will not be able to use them. Also, the speed is greatly reduced when trying to use this.

      Hi,

Thank you for your review. The TP-Link RE605X offers dual-band, AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 Range Extension for your home network. During setup, the extender will provide the opportunity to extend one, or both bands from your router using either the same SSIDs (Wi-Fi names) or custom ones.

If your main router utilizes a unified SSID between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, the extender will detect each of them separately during setup. If you would like, you can even assign unique names to each extended band so you can tell which is which.

Wi-Fi extenders utilize half-duplex transmission. As a result, throughput when connecting to the extender may be reduced when compared to the router. This is an industry standard for Wi-Fi extenders and is not exclusive to TP-Link.

For best results, we suggest placing the extender in an optimal location and ensuring its firmware is fully up to date, as shown in our FAQ here: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1406/

If you'd like assistance with any of these steps, please reach out to our support team using any of the resources included with the product, or from our official website, and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.

Extremely useful. I bought a TP Link wifi extender in the past and this new one is a definite upgrade for gaming. Easy setup. I know this extender does its job well because the router is on the opposite side of the house. The extender basically makes it like you're next to the router. Same speeds too. The only thing is if you accidentally unplug the wifi extender, it might take a little longer than expected to boot back up. Extremely reliable product again by TP Link though.

I returned it because every time I got it running my Xfinity internet would crash. Xfinity support had no answers (not unusual in my experience). The internet would come back whenever I shut down the extender. So much for the claim to work with all routers. Switched to Verizon whole house internet with a wired second router/extender and have no problems.

      Hi,

If you do not have Internet access after setting up your Extender, please re-verify your Wi-Fi password and re-configure the unit. We also suggest relocating the extender to another position in your home where your router’s Wi-Fi signal is sufficiently strong; yet far enough from the router to effectively extend its range.

Did not extend any bandwidth. I ended up going with a TP-Link W7200 Mesh 2 piece system. Unfortunately, it did not increase the bandwidth on its own, until I utilized my current Nighthawk AX6 router and ran the Mesh router through it. Have the 2nd unit next to my desktop and ran an Ethernet cable from the unit to my tower. Went from 500MB download to over 800MB, which I pay for.

      Hi,

Thank you for your review. We regret to hear you returned the RE605 Wi-Fi 6 Range Extender. We understand that, in some cases, a Wi-Fi extender may not be enough to address specific networking and coverage concerns, so we also offer our Deco Mesh Wi-Fi systems for whole-home coverage. If the Mesh system you procured is a Deco Mesh product, we hope you thoroughly enjoy its intuitive setup, convenient management, and reliable, whole-home coverage.

This doesn’t work. It was waste of money. Maybe it works if you buy other products but strengthen your signal and remove dead spots, not working.I live in an area where my internet and phone signal are strong yet the trees and materials of the building give signal issues. Bought this to remove dead spots and eliminate dropped calls. Seems to have done nothing. Very disappointed.

Very disappointed. This device does not work. I currently have up to 600Mb Xfinity speeds, but my laptop only routinely tests out at 340Mb, sometimes 400Mb, because my laptop (a new high-end model with a very fast WI-FI card) is one floor away from the router. It was recommended that get an extender to boost the speed. This device actually reduced my speed from 340Mb to 140Mb. After spending over an hour "chatting on line" with their tech support, I will buy a different brand. All I got from them were excuses and links to YouTube videos. Buyer beware!

      Hi,

Thank you for sharing your experience with our WiFi extender. We hear your concerns; however, please note that WiFi extenders are designed to increase the WiFi coverage and range of your existing WiFi network, not to boost or forcibly increase your Internet or network speed.

WiFi extenders utilize half-duplex transmission. As a result, throughput when connecting to the extender may be reduced when compared to the router. This is an industry standard for WiFi extenders and is not exclusive to TP-Link.

For an optimal WiFi extension experience, we recommend relocating the WiFi extender to a position within your home where the router's WiFi signal is sufficiently strong; yet far enough from the router to effectively extend its range. If able, please also make sure your WiFi devices are connecting to the extended 5GHz band for optimal bandwidth.

Please also ensure the extender's firmware is fully up to date, as shown in our FAQ here: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1406/
