Hi,
Thank you for your review. We always recommend that you ensure your router's 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal is adequately strong in the smart device's location. The Tapo app has a feature that allows you to measure the Wi-Fi signal strength of your smart devices. When the app is connected, please check the signal strength in the Device Settings menu.
If the signal is within the ideal range, and you're still experiencing these symptoms, please ensure your Tapo app is up to date, then update your smart device's firmware by selecting Me → Firmware Update within the Tapo app.
If you need help with any of these steps, please get in touch with our support team using any of the resources included with the product or from our official website. We'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.

TP-Link Tapo C125 Security Camera
This is a sweet little camera that has really impressed me! It has a clever design that looks like a thick Hockey Puck until you pull it apart and fold it open. It’s very small and will fit in about anywhere. On a shelf it will hardly be noticed. And if you turn off the front LED (in the App) any recording will not bring attention to the camera or be noticed by an intruder. I absolutely enjoy the app. The more I use it the more I find more features. The options and the flexibility of setting this camera up for you specific demands are amazing. From people detection to glass break sounds you have options. The recoding is clear and detailed by day, but also clear at night even in black and white. I really appreciate how the camera is always watching the field and will go back 3-5 seconds and start recording before the actual movement occurred so you have a great segment with nothing missing.
PROS:
Small Footprint that can be wall mounted, or simply set on a shelf
Plug-In power supply has a long 10 ft small white wire to reach almost any mounting situation to the camera
Privacy button is very handy both on the phone and on the app to stop recording as well as the notifications
Wide field of view at 140 degrees is great to cover a big area.
Audio is not great but it works and sounds just fine. Some audio is spoken during set up and on insertion of a Micro SD card, which is helpful
A plethora of options on the app for detecting movement of pets, people, vehicles, tampering of camera, baby cries, dog barks, cat meows, and glass break sounds. You have options!
Detection and notifications can be set to specific times of the day or parts of a day
Retrieval of recorded videos is fast when I view them on my phone! And the recording starts 3-5 seconds BEFORE the person enters the video! This is perfect to make sure you really have all the activity recorded. Best I have seen on a security camera.
It has the ability to store clips on an internal micro SD card as well as the TP-Link cloud account
When camera is unplugged or the power goes off, the camera will re-connect back to the internet pretty quickly and reliably
It produces amazing clear and detailed videos in normal light. After dark the detail and range is better than most cameras I have used.
2 year Warranty
2.4 GHz Wi-Fi works great and has good range. Remember 5 GHz may be faster, but 2.4 gives you much better range to your router.
CONS:
I had very few issues. Only one came to mind and that was the initial setup. I took too long to pair the camera during the setup and the camera timed out. I figured out that the Privacy Shutter button when held will reset the camera and that allowed me to restart the paring process and get the camera connected. After that everything worked great.
CONCLUSION:
I would recommend this camera. The price and features make it perfect. The size and simplicity are very good coupled with great performance and clear videos. The app is one of the best I have used on a security camera. At this price point I find this camera hard to be beat.

Hi MichelleW,
Thank you for your review. In your case, we first recommend ensuring the camera is receiving adequately strong and stable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Signal from your router. Additionally, please ensure the Resolution settings in the Tapo app are set to the highest available option (2K in this case), and the camera's firmware is fully up to date.
Lastly, if there is any protective adhesive film that still needs to be removed from the camera face/lens, please remove it, and ensure the lens is clean.

Hi,
Thank you for your review. The Tapo C125 Indoor 2K Wi-Fi Camera is designed and advertised for indoor use and home monitoring; not for outdoor use. Facing the camera toward a reflective surface, such as a window, while Night Vision is enabled, will cause its infrared LEDs to reflect back at the camera, distorting the image.
If you would like an outdoor solution, please consider one of our Tapo Outdoor Cameras, such as the Tapo TC85 Wire-Free Cameras, or TC85 KIT, which includes Solar Panels for convenient charging and non-stop power to the Wire-Free cameras.

I was really looking forward to this camera replacing my old Arlo Pro. Nicely packaged. The Tapo software is easy to use. Tried connecting it to my Spectrum Wifi router using 2.4Ghz. My BT found the device but when it came time for the pairing process, it would not go any further. Tried the entire process at least 8-10 times but no luck. I returned this camera to the store the next day. My two Tapo smart switches installed/connected to my network without any issues. Same for my two Tapo 320WS cameras.

I've tried several different security cameras, and some of them with onboard storage, and I'm really impressed with this one. The picture is good, the night vision is clear, and setup is easy with the app. The installation is pretty flexible. It has a magnetic base, or can be screwed to the wall, but it does need a power cord so you have to plan for that. Otherwise what really stands out to me is its responsiveness. The picture comes up pretty quickly when accessing the camera through the app. I use a microSD card for local storage in the camera, and I'm really impressed at how quickly I can call up and view video information that is stored locally. I haven't tried its cloud storage yet since I'm very happy with the onboard memory.
The camera has some intelligence built in. It detects not only movement, but whether there's a person, an animal, or a passing car.
Privacy mode is a really good feature. Not only does it stop transmitting or recording, but there's also a cover built into it that slides over the camera lens to ensure privacy.

The Tapo C125 by TP-Link is a very nice LITTLE security camera. I love that it is small but it is mighty and has some features I wouldn't expect. It is intended, I believe, as an inside camera. I am using it inside to see the outside. My HOA has strict requirements on how to attach a security camera to our home. To not get involved in any of that, I simply placed this little camera on the front window sill facing out toward the area in front of the house. Even through the screen, I am able to be notified then see/record video of people approaching the house. I have it set to notify me of Humans only, not motion, nor dogs or automobiles. When I first set it for motion, I realized the street out front was way busier than I had ever imagined and stopped that right away due to the incessant notifications. But it worked!!
This camera was simple to set up using the Tapo app and Android 4.4 or higher or iOS 9 or higher. It finds the camera via bluetooth and then connects via 2.4GHz WiFi. Since setting mine up, it has not lost the connection. For a little camera, this is feature rich. There are quite q few settings to work through - but it is certainly worth the effort to have the camera do exactly what you want it to do. I chose to have the alarm on and I can tell you the siren option can be quite loud! I disabled the siren and chose to have a light as an alarm instead. I did test this and nothing happened, so I'm a bit disappointed with that. Do you want to record sound, be able to have 2-way talk, receive notifications all day or on a schedule? The video quality is 2K (with 4MP) but you are able to downgrade the 2K to 720P if you are using a micro SD card (NOT included) and choose to save space. You can either sign up with Tapo Care, their cloud based service that will save your recordings (for 1 camera for $3.49/month) or you can insert a micro SD card (NOT included) to capture your recordings. Tapo gives you a 30 day free trial with no credit card needed to test out their service. If you cancel their service, basically you would lose the Rich notifications - the ability to receive a snapshot notification.
More features: Another is the privacy shutter. This camera has a physical privacy shutter that you are able to open and close via a switch on the side of the camera or with a tap in their app. If you have it inside and you have guests over, perhaps you wouldn't want to record private conversations you might have, etc. The camera gives you a fairly broad 140 degree view and that captures everything I am needing and more. This is compatible with Apple Home Kit, Alexa and Google Assistant. I linked mine to my Alexa display and am able to ask Alexa to show me the camera and I get a live streaming view (just as I can get on my iPhone). This camera offers numerous mounting options: magnet, drill holes and mount, mount with adhesive or simply set it down, as I have done on my window sill. Almost everything you might need for any of those mounting options is included. This camera comes with a 2 year warranty and 24/7 tech support which says a lot. This camera does have a power cord (not wireless) but it is fairly long, enough that it makes placement easier.
I truly like this little Tapo C125 AI Home Security Wi-Fi Camera. I will be cancelling the Tapo care after my 30 day free trial to see how it works with a micro SD card. I'm not sure exactly what I will lose, but it doesn't seem like it will be much, I would recommend this security camera to anyone needing a small security camera with unexpectedly outstanding features.

Doesn’t work well with HomeKit Secure Video setup

Doesn’t work great with the HomeKit Secure Video setup, for whatever reasons. Constantly getting disconnected from the network and showing black screen instead of the camera feed. Returned. Yeah, maybe there’s something wrong with my router, but I used 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and even tried assigning fixed IPs to the cameras and it didn’t help.
Thank you for your review. The TP-Link Tapo C125 is designed with HomeKit compatibility. The 2.4GHz Wi-Fi spectrum is generally more susceptible to interference in some settings. We would recommend optimizing your router's 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channel settings to help mitigate potential congestion or interference. We also recommend ensuring the camera is placed in a location where your router's 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network provides sufficient signal strength.

The TP-Link features an impressive view and resolution, and while the frame may look gimmicky, the mechanism is solid in holding the lens in a very stable way.
It arrives in a very tiny folded configuration, like a hockey puck, with various mounting hardware. It features a weighed magnetic base, a metal plate with 2 screw holes, and an adhesive (oddly with a pair of screw holes). Setting it up takes a matter of minutes after you download the Tapo app. The app instructs you to turn on Bluetooth to find the camera; once found, give it your Wi-Fi password and pair. It supports both cloud and local recording via a microSD card. With the type of hardware included, you can mount this virtually anywhere in your home.
As I tried to get going with this camera, I walked it over to the office to mess with it while I tackled another task. I realized that it had a very low framerate and would frequently buffer. I was a little confused about why this was having such a bad stream. Phones, computers, wireless smart smoke detectors, and other gadgets don't typically have issues with service in that room. I unplugged it and took it next to the router to test again; this time there was no lag or issues at all. The office is technically 3 rooms over when seen on a floor plan. But in reality, it's actually two, with a single wall composed of drywall between them. With little to no solid materials other than meshing, wood, and electrical wiring, with no concrete-based materials, tubing, or anything similar. The camera only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, which meant I couldn't change its connection type to get better coverage.
When working correctly, the picture quality is very clear, both day and night. Night vision is configurable to your needs and can be turned off if you get too much glare. The AI functions capture and label moments of activity while drawing a little green box around your object. Human detection is labeled by a person icon, while quick movements/actions give you a running person icon. I don't have large pets indoors, so I can't say if it generates a dog icon. The packaging does mention it picks them up and tags them intelligently as well.
The privacy shutter is a neat add-on to any camera. Activate, and the camera mostly turns off with the lens covered. I only wish there was a schedule this could be customized with. As it is now, you have to manually toggle it every time you want to turn it on or off.
Pros
-Amazing picture quality
-Incredibly easy setup
-Multiple mounting options
-Fantastic camera frame
Cons
-Weak Wi-Fi radio
-No schedules for privacy shutter
This is worth 4-stars.

High Quality 2K Video And A Lot Of Features

TP-Link's C125 WiFi security camera is a new camera that has up to 2K QHD resolution and night vision. The camera has a reasonably small size with a magnetic base. It comes with all you need to mount the camera and get it up and running. You can use the magnetic base or mount onto a wall with the screws that come with it. It also has an articulating arm so you can position the camera to capture what you want. The ultra-wide field of view makes it easy to get a large area in frame.
TP-Link has a app that you use to setup the camera. Once connected to the app, you can fully configure the camera. you can set the resolution, loop recording, activity zones, status led, privacy mode, notifications, etc. TP-Link offers a cloud storage services you can subscribe to and you can use up to a 512GB micro-SD card. Within the app, you can view recordings, download them, and use the two way audio feature of the C125. Updating of the camera firmware is also done through the app. A recent firmware update enabled the option for turning on/off the HDR feature.
I found the C125 to be easy to setup and configure. There are enough options and feature that I had to take some time to go through all of them. The capabilities of this camera were well thought out by TP-Link. The power cable is the longest I've seen on this type of security camera, so I didn't have any issues getting it plugged into an outlet. It does what you would expect from a security camera and then some. The video quality looks really good. The 2k resolution plus HDR give me confidence that I would be able to see a lot of detail if I were to have an intruder/thief come into view of this camera. I don't have that with cameras that only have 1080 resolution. FHD cameras I had in the past always made me wonder if the low resolution would show enough detail to be helpful in the event of an incident, but I don't feel like I have to worry about that now with the C125. That piece of mind is worth it to me.
The camera has a privacy shutter which you can close or open through the app. I don't have the camera in a location where I would need to use that, but for those who may have it in a location where there would be times you need to use it, you have it available on this camera. The only thing I would like to see changed would be the support for a 1TB micro-SD card. As it stands, the camera supports up to 512GB cards. With loop recording enabled, that will still hold a lot of days of recording, but it would be nice to have the option to use the 1TB cards.
The C125 is a great camera. I don't have any complaints about it. You have both local storage and a cloud storage service option with this, it has a 2K resolution, records audio in addition to video, an d the amount of features is extensive. I don't think you will be disappointed with this camera. If you are looking into getting a security camera or are wanting to build out a home security camera system, then add the C125 to your list for consideration. I would recommend it being on anyone's list and I believe that people are going to be impressed with the video quality of TP-Link's C125.

This is my first security camera for my bungalow apartment and I thought this fit my budget compared to my mom's Ring. And honestly this turned out great. I really wanted a siren type of thing initially and didn't realize this had one. Also the magnet base for installation was really clutch! We easily mounted it on the window frame upper corner area and we were able to angle the camera out the window for our back door. Just like a previous comment, we disabled the "night mode" to see through the glass and we have a porch light on during late hours.
The cloud storage is great – and if you compare the rates of other brands, ~$34 a month for 1 cam split by two people is solid. In this era, cloud storage makes sense vs. memory cards, mainly because you can view it any where mobile and if there was a break-in burglars can take the local storage card fyi.
The app took some getting used to in terms of tweaking settings that we preferred, but nothing too challenging. I do hope they can update the UX to be a little more intuitive. Also the "shortcuts" that I added from the app for my Iphone widgets aren't super in sync lol.
Overall I like how you can set a "Home" mode and "Away" mode too. The design is nice and compact + quality of footage is a plus since its 2k. Also being able to have "privacy mode" is a great especially when we know we're going to be in the motion area/the reflection on the window since we're using it to point outside. Anyways, I have fun speaking into the microphone saying sassy things !! Get one.
P.S. make sure your firmware is always updated so its more secure~~

Hi,
Thank you for your review. The Tapo Indoor 2K Wi-Fi Security Camera is not designed nor advertised for use with 5GHz Wi-Fi. If you are ever unsure about a product's features, please feel free to check the product specifications page, or contact our support team using the information found on our official TP-Link website.
In most cases, Wi-Fi routers that support 5GHz connectivity might also support 2.4GHz (also known as "Dual-Band Wi-Fi"). We recommend consulting with your router's documentation to determine whether it supports both bands.

This TP-Link - Tapo C125 replaced a much older camera, and I didn't realize how slow and cumbersome the old one was until I was using this new one. To be fair, the old camera was many years old. I was just used to opening the app and it taking time to load the video. There's no of that with this Tapo C125. I open the app and tap the camera and the video is showing immediately. It's also very clear, even at night and in the dark, and hasn't gone out one time. Also another problem with older camera. Video going out and reloading.
Set up was easy. I downloaded the app, plugged it in and it found and set up the camera very quickly. There was a firmware update available, so I did that while checking through the settings. After the update I tested all the features. It very accurately identified motion, and people coming on camera. You can set up for it to do that only during certain time, which I would recommended. It sent a notification every few seconds that I was in the room, but it's an awesome feature to have when you're not home.
It has a physical privacy shudder that you can also control with the app if you want privacy. Nice feature for those who need it. The size is also great. I tested the 2 way communication with my daughter one day. She heard me clearly, but I did have a little trouble hearing her unless she spoke up. But it worked with very little delay. I'm very happy with this camera and would definitely get more.

The tp-link Tapo C125 AI Home Security Wi-Fi camera is a feature rich camera for your home. Video quality is great day and night with the 2K QHD HDR camera for day and the 940mn IR LED for night vision and the ultra-wide field of view will capture it all. Smart AI identifies people, pets, and vehicles while also having the ability to identify sounds and notify you when the camera recognizes one. With the built-in physical privacy shutter button, you can have physical control of the camera to protect your privacy. The camera also allows for two-way audio and the sound recorded is clear and the sound coming from the speaker is just as clear. Within the Tapo app you are able to have the camera speaker play an audible alarm when certain activities are recognized. Ecosystem compatibility is great, offering compatibility with multiple home ecosystems including Apple HomeKit. Adding the camera to HomeKit was the easiest I’ve ever experienced; it was quick and easy and HomeKit secure video is supported and provides an additional option for storing your video recordings. The Tapo app provides you with additional options for local storage, available via micro-SD card or Cloud storage through the Tapo Care storage service.

Great indoor camera

I'm not deep into the TP link ecosystem or anything, I do have a few smart plugs for controlling old school lamps, but I saw that the specs on this and grabbed it anyway. Really glad I did. This tiny camera is pretty much perfect. I love that it doesn't require any other hardware or a subscription service to use. I just slotted in a spare 256gb sd card I had laying around collecting dust and boom, good to go. So what's sup great about it? Setup is super simple. Unboxed the camera, plugged it in, grabbed the app, and was up and running in a few minutes. I love the mounting hardware this thing comes with. You get a little metal plate that comes with a matching adhesive pad so you can mount the camera virtually anywhere. The image quality on this in both light and dark environments is great - though we're using ours in a somewhat unconventional setup (more on that in a sec). The power cable is quite long, which is nice as you can mount this quite high if you're so inclined. Plus it's a matched white cable, which makes it fade into the background against walls. So don't really need an indoor camera these days as we're strictly work from home now, but thought the tiny size of this little guy would be great for pointing out front window. We've been having a few issues with package thieves, and were hoping this could be the solution. We do have a doorbell camera, but our front door where our packages are left is positioned 90 degrees to the actual front of the house. So people can just walk across the front yard, reach over the little half wall to our doorstep and grab a package without ever appearing on the doorbell camera. Sucks right? But I'm guessing this 70+ year old house wasn't built with home surveillance in mind. Anyway. We've got this mounted on top of a window frame (double window situation) of a window that we never open. So the window locks are just to the right of where we've got the camera, if you can picture it, and the camera is pointed directly out the window. Wasn't sure how this would work, but it turns out ... perfectly! The image, even through glass, is crystal clear. There is a bit of a problem at night because our neighborhood is actually very well lit at night, basically everyone across the street keeps their front lights on. This causes reflections in the glass that completely blind the camera in night vision mode. That sucks for us, but won't affect you if you're using this like normal people. BUT! You can disable night vision by switching the camera from auto to day mode, and with the amount of light we have in our neighborhood at all times we get a beautiful 1440p hdr image. It's great. Whether you're doing something goofy with the camera like us, or using it to keep on eye on pets/kiddos in the house this thing is perfect. All you need is an open socket and internet connection and you're set. This thing is located pretty much at the opposite end of the house from our router and it still has a very strong connection. Software is pretty good too overall. The camera identifies any recordings/events that spotted people with a little person icon, though confusingly the "movement" icon is a person running. Once you know you know, but that was a bit confusing at first. Downloading clips is quick and easy, but that speed will depend on both your connection and your sd card. The sd card I put in this is a fairly high quality high speed card that was originally used in a phone, but of course phones have done away with expandable storage, so now it gets to live here. I don't know it's a great little camera that has slotted easily into our home security suite without any issues. I love it.
