Great that I can put an sd card in and not subscribe to a service to obtain history.
Functions well on the tp app. A little awkward to turn person recognition on and off. My Alexa keeps announcing person detected when we are working outside. Haven't figured how to tell Alexa to change that feature- have to dive deep in the app. My just be me getting used to it

Fantastic for the money and even compared to much more expensive cameras. TP-Link appears to listen to customers as a few of the items for improvement have already been updated - examples, the time zone not being correct and ability to assign a static IP. Still (Aug. 2024) no good options for changing WIFI, need to factory reset device. Does connect to iSpy/Agent DVR, I got best results connecting to rtsp://xxxxxxx:xxx/stream1

Installation was easier than expected...just need to know what option fits your situation. Connection to the internet and phone was seamless. Software works great. The camera coverage is excellent: catches the entire frontage of my property and even parts of my neighbors'. It identifies people pretty well; maybe a little too sensitive (identified a trash bin as a person when the light shined on it), but that's ok. Price was good with the deal of the day special.

I have been looking for a reasonably priced flood light with motion detector, this unit was more what I bargained for. It has been working flawlessly since installed. I did not hook it up to the internet but I did put in a memory card to record when tripped. I am very satisfied with my purchase. Highly recommend.

The TC55 works great as a live camera, or just motion sensor light. But its "smart" features are not that smart. I consistently get false positives; alerts that someone has obscured the camera, or that someone has been detected and triggered the camera, when it's actually just fog or rain.
When it's raining at night it triggers lots of recording. I've shut down the alerts so I can sleep.
Oddly, once it is triggered, and turns on the lights, it is less sensitive to the fog/rain, so it times out and goes off.
It's pretty accurate during the day, even when raining, but at night it can't cope with rain or fog. Unfortunately, at night is when I want a security camera.

Hi Russ,
Thank you for your review. If you are experiencing abnormally high false positive events, we recommend ensuring the device's wake-up sensitivity, activity zones, and detection settings are customized and optimized for your specific monitoring needs. These settings can be found in the Tapo app, and can be adjusted to help mitigate false positive events.
We also highly suggest making sure the device's firmware is kept up to date so it receives the latest features and enhancements as they roll out.
Our support team is always happy to help answer any questions you may have about our products. Please feel free to reach out using any of the resources included with the product, or from our official website, and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.

The resolution and sensor is better than many cameras I've tried in the past. It catches more movement but not all. That's why I like using a micro SD card. Don't get tapo care of you think it does 24/7 recording...it doesn't.

This is an amazing clear camera which replaces an existing flood light on AC power. This was extremely easy to setup, app is fantastic and does NOT charge a monthly fee to use (unless you add additional features). Don't forget to purchase a large MicroSD card for local recordings.

2800-Lumen Ultra-Bright Floodlights
I was amazed by the TP-Link Tapo Wired Floodlight Security Camera's ultra-bright 2800-lumen floodlights. These lights can be easily adjusted to cover targeted areas like my yard and garage, ensuring they remain well-lit and secure even in the darkest hours.
2K QHD Live View, Day and Night
The 2K QHD live view is a game-changer. The clarity is incredible, with 1.7 times more pixels than 1080p. This enhanced resolution ensures that every detail is captured, providing sharper footage and crisper photos, making it easier to monitor my home effectively.
Super Wide Motion-Activated Zone
This camera's motion-activated zone is impressively broad, covering a sweeping 270 degrees. The advanced sensors detect even the slightest motion, triggering the floodlights to illuminate the area and deter potential intruders.
Full-Color Night Vision
I particularly appreciate full-color night vision. It provides 24/7 surveillance, allowing me to sleep soundly, knowing my home is always protected, even in complete darkness.
Custom Alarms with Built-In Siren
The ability to create and record custom alarms is fantastic. Combined with the built-in siren, this feature adds an extra layer of security by deterring intruders as soon as motion is detected.
Free Smart AI Detection
The smart AI technology is incredibly efficient. It accurately differentiates between people, pets, and vehicles, significantly reducing false alerts and unnecessary notifications. This feature ensures that I only receive relevant alerts, enhancing my overall security experience.
Wired 24/7 Monitoring
One of the best aspects of the TC55 is its wired setup, which provides uninterrupted 24/7 monitoring. I no longer worry about battery life or swapping out batteries, ensuring continuous surveillance.
Activity Zones
The customizable activity zones are a smart feature. I can set specific areas to monitor, receiving instant alerts for any activity within these zones while ignoring irrelevant movements outside the set parameters. This customization enhances the accuracy of the alerts.
Two-Way Audio
The two-way audio function is very convenient. It allows me to communicate remotely with anyone around my home, providing an added level of interaction and security.
No Subscription Required
I love that there are no mandatory subscription fees. I can save and store footage locally on a microSD card (up to 512 GB) or use the optional Tapo Care cloud storage for added flexibility and access to recordings anytime, anywhere.
IP65 Weatherproof
The camera's impressive IP65 weatherproof construction provides reliable protection in all weather conditions, ensuring continuous monitoring regardless of rain or shine.
Remote Tapo App Control
The Tapo app is user-friendly and versatile. It allows me to set schedules, adjust brightness, and customize activation triggers, making the TC55 a truly smart and adaptable security solution.
Overall, the TP-Link Tapo Wired Floodlight Security Camera (TC55) is an excellent investment for anyone looking to enhance their home security with reliable, high-quality, and feature-rich surveillance.

The TP Link Tapo Wired Floodlight with Security Camera TC55 is an outdoor, AC powered light with a bit of a unique look. The design incorporates two oval LED floodlights rated for 2800 Lumens of bright white light. I installed this unit above my garage door using the existing electrical connection which was already present for the outside light. When using a switched outlet, you have to ensure you leave the switch on the face-plate in the on position otherwise the camera and floodlight will not receive power. Installation was fairly simple; however, you should be comfortable with basic electrical work and take precautions to de-energize the circuit during a self-install by turning off the power at the circuit breaker. If this is not a project, you are comfortable with, seek professional installation services. Overall, the setup using the mobile app was straightforward, however you should ensure you have a good 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi signal at the location you intend to install the unit. A less than good signal or in an interference rich environment (for example town-homes or tightly packed houses will likely have a lot of 2.4ghz competing Wi-Fi signals which may make it difficult to discover your access point. Also streaming video and alerts can be impacted by weak network connections.
As for the unit, the floodlight has two weatherproof adjustable and dimmable bright white oval LED lights which are effective in lighting up a large driveway or backyard. So much so that you have to position them correctly as they will overlap into others’ property. The motion sensitivity is good with a 270-degree field of view, overall sensitivity and detection areas can be adjusted in mobile Tapo app.
The recording functions in this unit DOES NOT rely solely on TP Link’s available cloud subscription, thus the huge appeal here is being able to record to a MicroSD card (that you will need to purchase separately), thus you can avoid cloud subscription fees.
Smart AI detection and the ability to set a high-pitched alarm or your recorded voice to warn intruders away is appealing. I even thought about the sound bites I could potentially use for my warning alert. The 2K QHD camera provides sharp, detailed video recordings which is useful if you need to get a better look at things the camera picks up and detects.
Pros >>> Oval shaped LED lights are bright, dimmable and adjustable, lighting up a driveway or backyard is not an issue >>> Good adjustable motion sensor, wide field of view of 170 degrees >>> Nice looking, sharp 2560x1440, 15fps 2K video, with a 153° (Diagonal), 134°(Horizontal), 77.6°(Vertical) field of view >>> Siren (93 dB), speaker and two-way communication is nice, but seems more like a novelty.>>> IP65 Weather rated >>> Local storage via a MicroSD slot (up to 512GB)
<<< Cons << The appearance, especially the LED panels make the light look strange << Must have 2.4 Ghz band enabled on your Wi-Fi access point which is pretty standard and provides better range than the 5.0Ghz bands << H.264 video encoding rather than the more efficient H.265 codec
