These are just ok. It serves the basic purpose. The lighting is more than sufficient. The talkback microphone could be a bit better. The camera quality and sound recording quality is pretty good. The thing I hate about these cameras is they drop off of the wifi way too often. I had a different brand at my last house and that was NEVER the case over the 3 years I had them. I've only had these for about 2 months. Thankfully I wired them up where I took down my flood lights. That means they are actually wired to a light switch, which makes it easy to turn them off and on. I usually have to hit that switch once every 2 to 3 days. I have 4 of these and the same thing happens on all 4. That's the only way I've been able to get them to reconnect. Thankfully, when the network is lost, they still have power so they are still recording. I just can't look at live video. I have to go look at the playback once they reconnect to the wifi.

      Hi Perfect,

Thank you for your review. In your case, we first recommend ensuring your router's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal is sufficiently strong at the device's location. You can check the signal strength for the device within the Tapo app by navigating to the camera in the Tapo app, selecting Device Settings (top-right), and checking the signal strength next to Network Connection.

We also suggest making sure the Floodlight Camera's firmware is fully up to date. The Tapo app will automatically remind and prompt you when firmware updates are available for your devices.

This is an amazing clear camera which replaces an existing flood light on AC power. This was extremely easy to setup, app is fantastic and does NOT charge a monthly fee to use (unless you add additional features). Don't forget to purchase a large MicroSD card for local recordings.

Fantastic for the money and even compared to much more expensive cameras. TP-Link appears to listen to customers as a few of the items for improvement have already been updated - examples, the time zone not being correct and ability to assign a static IP. Still (Aug. 2024) no good options for changing WIFI, need to factory reset device. Does connect to iSpy/Agent DVR, I got best results connecting to rtsp://xxxxxxx:xxx/stream1

Great that I can put an sd card in and not subscribe to a service to obtain history. Functions well on the tp app. A little awkward to turn person recognition on and off. My Alexa keeps announcing person detected when we are working outside. Haven't figured how to tell Alexa to change that feature- have to dive deep in the app. My just be me getting used to it

I have been looking for a reasonably priced flood light with motion detector, this unit was more what I bargained for. It has been working flawlessly since installed. I did not hook it up to the internet but I did put in a memory card to record when tripped. I am very satisfied with my purchase. Highly recommend.

    False positives

The TC55 works great as a live camera, or just motion sensor light. But its "smart" features are not that smart. I consistently get false positives; alerts that someone has obscured the camera, or that someone has been detected and triggered the camera, when it's actually just fog or rain. When it's raining at night it triggers lots of recording. I've shut down the alerts so I can sleep. Oddly, once it is triggered, and turns on the lights, it is less sensitive to the fog/rain, so it times out and goes off. It's pretty accurate during the day, even when raining, but at night it can't cope with rain or fog. Unfortunately, at night is when I want a security camera.

      Hi Russ,

Thank you for your review. If you are experiencing abnormally high false positive events, we recommend ensuring the device's wake-up sensitivity, activity zones, and detection settings are customized and optimized for your specific monitoring needs. These settings can be found in the Tapo app, and can be adjusted to help mitigate false positive events.

We also highly suggest making sure the device's firmware is kept up to date so it receives the latest features and enhancements as they roll out.

The resolution and sensor is better than many cameras I've tried in the past. It catches more movement but not all. That's why I like using a micro SD card. Don't get tapo care of you think it does 24/7 recording...it doesn't.

2800-Lumen Ultra-Bright Floodlights I was amazed by the TP-Link Tapo Wired Floodlight Security Camera's ultra-bright 2800-lumen floodlights. These lights can be easily adjusted to cover targeted areas like my yard and garage, ensuring they remain well-lit and secure even in the darkest hours. 2K QHD Live View, Day and Night The 2K QHD live view is a game-changer. The clarity is incredible, with 1.7 times more pixels than 1080p. This enhanced resolution ensures that every detail is captured, providing sharper footage and crisper photos, making it easier to monitor my home effectively. Super Wide Motion-Activated Zone This camera's motion-activated zone is impressively broad, covering a sweeping 270 degrees. The advanced sensors detect even the slightest motion, triggering the floodlights to illuminate the area and deter potential intruders. Full-Color Night Vision I particularly appreciate full-color night vision. It provides 24/7 surveillance, allowing me to sleep soundly, knowing my home is always protected, even in complete darkness. Custom Alarms with Built-In Siren The ability to create and record custom alarms is fantastic. Combined with the built-in siren, this feature adds an extra layer of security by deterring intruders as soon as motion is detected. Free Smart AI Detection The smart AI technology is incredibly efficient. It accurately differentiates between people, pets, and vehicles, significantly reducing false alerts and unnecessary notifications. This feature ensures that I only receive relevant alerts, enhancing my overall security experience. Wired 24/7 Monitoring One of the best aspects of the TC55 is its wired setup, which provides uninterrupted 24/7 monitoring. I no longer worry about battery life or swapping out batteries, ensuring continuous surveillance. Activity Zones The customizable activity zones are a smart feature. I can set specific areas to monitor, receiving instant alerts for any activity within these zones while ignoring irrelevant movements outside the set parameters. This customization enhances the accuracy of the alerts. Two-Way Audio The two-way audio function is very convenient. It allows me to communicate remotely with anyone around my home, providing an added level of interaction and security. No Subscription Required I love that there are no mandatory subscription fees. I can save and store footage locally on a microSD card (up to 512 GB) or use the optional Tapo Care cloud storage for added flexibility and access to recordings anytime, anywhere. IP65 Weatherproof The camera's impressive IP65 weatherproof construction provides reliable protection in all weather conditions, ensuring continuous monitoring regardless of rain or shine. Remote Tapo App Control The Tapo app is user-friendly and versatile. It allows me to set schedules, adjust brightness, and customize activation triggers, making the TC55 a truly smart and adaptable security solution. Overall, the TP-Link Tapo Wired Floodlight Security Camera (TC55) is an excellent investment for anyone looking to enhance their home security with reliable, high-quality, and feature-rich surveillance.

TP Link has always been one of my favorite choices for in home cameras so I had to try out their new Wired Floodlight with a 2K Camera and super bright LED lights. I had a perfect spot to install this camera to light up our back yard for the path to our garage whilst having a great camera on the entrance of the garage. The camera came with all the hardware you could need for install in an existing fixture, so if you are adding one to a new spot, all you will need is the tools, a fixture and wire, that is it. Install once I had the fixture in the wall and wires ran took about 15 minutes. Once I flipped the breaker, I was able to connect to it through the TP Link app and setup WiFi very quickly and effortlessly. The TP Link app is very simple and easy to get through, I already use it daily for my in-home cameras to check in on my kids from the garage or in the basement when I am working. The lights are BRIGHT! My backyard is small, about 1200 sq ft and it lights up the entire yard like it is about an hour before dark, you can see easily making it real nice for my dog at night so far, she seems happier not being outside in the dark. The Camera quality is great, very good for HD, a lot of "2K' cameras are no where near 1440 or even 960, this is a true 2K camera. Motion is smooth and recordings always are easy to see what was caught, animal or human. Night video is fine due to the bright lights, you will see everything. Motion sense is great, it does not miss motion from all the testing I have done trying to sneak to the door, it nabs me every time. One of the best features so far is the built in Micro SD slot for local recording, this should be a standard in all cameras, sell a subscription for features added, not just recording, I love cameras that do not require more money later. The next best feature is it is wired, no batteries to charge and no missed recordings because you forgot to charge the battery. I can highly recommend this light so far, I hope it gives me a good 5 to 7 years of use, that is when I usually update my electronics.
