I had to pay to have this installed a couple of weeks after purchasing, big mistake, return period was already over. Worked flawlessly for about a week, then it went off line, ok, so I restarted it, worked fine for a day. Started over and it kept shutting off. Also bought Best Buy’s protection plan so I thought I would be ok, NOT SO! Best Buy’s Geek Squad said they would not come out and troubleshoot it, I had to bring it back to the store, in which case one could not diagnose the problem! I was told that I had to pay $129 to have them come out, which was more than I paid for the unit. Alternatively, I would have to pay someone to take it down so I could bring it back to them. If I brought it back they would replace it free, and I would have to start over again. I’m NOT HAPPY. I have been a very loyal customer of Best Buy for over 3 decades, and have purchased many products in that period. I am very disappointed.

      Hi,

Thank you for your review. The Tapo Wired Floodlight with 2K Security Camera needs to be installed in a location where your router provides reliable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity. If connectivity is limited at its location, a Wi-Fi Range Extender may be worth considering.

The TP Link Tapo Wired Floodlight with Security Camera TC55 is an outdoor, AC powered light with a bit of a unique look. The design incorporates two oval LED floodlights rated for 2800 Lumens of bright white light. I installed this unit above my garage door using the existing electrical connection which was already present for the outside light. When using a switched outlet, you have to ensure you leave the switch on the face-plate in the on position otherwise the camera and floodlight will not receive power. Installation was fairly simple; however, you should be comfortable with basic electrical work and take precautions to de-energize the circuit during a self-install by turning off the power at the circuit breaker. If this is not a project, you are comfortable with, seek professional installation services. Overall, the setup using the mobile app was straightforward, however you should ensure you have a good 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi signal at the location you intend to install the unit. A less than good signal or in an interference rich environment (for example town-homes or tightly packed houses will likely have a lot of 2.4ghz competing Wi-Fi signals which may make it difficult to discover your access point. Also streaming video and alerts can be impacted by weak network connections. As for the unit, the floodlight has two weatherproof adjustable and dimmable bright white oval LED lights which are effective in lighting up a large driveway or backyard. So much so that you have to position them correctly as they will overlap into others’ property. The motion sensitivity is good with a 270-degree field of view, overall sensitivity and detection areas can be adjusted in mobile Tapo app. The recording functions in this unit DOES NOT rely solely on TP Link’s available cloud subscription, thus the huge appeal here is being able to record to a MicroSD card (that you will need to purchase separately), thus you can avoid cloud subscription fees. Smart AI detection and the ability to set a high-pitched alarm or your recorded voice to warn intruders away is appealing. I even thought about the sound bites I could potentially use for my warning alert. The 2K QHD camera provides sharp, detailed video recordings which is useful if you need to get a better look at things the camera picks up and detects. Pros >>> Oval shaped LED lights are bright, dimmable and adjustable, lighting up a driveway or backyard is not an issue >>> Good adjustable motion sensor, wide field of view of 170 degrees >>> Nice looking, sharp 2560x1440, 15fps 2K video, with a 153° (Diagonal), 134°(Horizontal), 77.6°(Vertical) field of view >>> Siren (93 dB), speaker and two-way communication is nice, but seems more like a novelty.>>> IP65 Weather rated >>> Local storage via a MicroSD slot (up to 512GB) <<< Cons << The appearance, especially the LED panels make the light look strange << Must have 2.4 Ghz band enabled on your Wi-Fi access point which is pretty standard and provides better range than the 5.0Ghz bands << H.264 video encoding rather than the more efficient H.265 codec

    Bright and Clear!

I have a variety of floodlight cameras that I've used and tested across the year - and the first impression of the TP-Link TC55 is that it is the brightest light and clearest image of all that I've tried! The increased field of view is amazing - where other cameras typically capture about 120 degrees of view and the TC55 can see an outstanding 150 degrees - which is a big deal when considering security functions. The flood light motion sensor's 270 detection area ensure nothing is going to slip by unnoticed and will be lit up with 2800 lumens of brightness! Of course there is a plethora of additional features that can be used - from AI Smart detection to tell what type of object is detected (Animal, person, automobile, etc) as well as two-way sound for immediate communication if needed. TP Link's application Tapo can also be used to group your TP Link devices into logical groupings - making checking on and supporting your devices easy and seamless. Overall, I'm very excited about the features and options available on this Floodlight/Camera - and have it installed it at my cabin for security and safety. Also should note that you can save the videos locally on a SD Card or leverage the cloud with a subscription. Thanks TP Link!

    Becoming big fan of Tapo

I have a bunch of TP-Link Tapo and Kasa devices at the house. I have been using the outlets for years now under the Kasa brand. Easy set up and easier management. I also have a TP-Link Deco mesh network. These all seamlessly merge and you can manage iot hardware from any of the apps. (Network you want/need to manage from Deco app) This light is hardwired, so you will need to run new wiring if putting in a new location. If you are replacing an old spotlight, you should be fine as long as the wiring is standard and up to local specifications/regulations. The light itself is very easy to adjust the direction of the camera and lights. There is a micro-SD card slot that handles up to 512 GB of storage. It is very easy to format the card, done from the app and at the light. The camera has 150 degree field of view. Best way to describe that, you will almost see wall on either side if the camera is set up under a overhang or roof within probably a foot of the wall. There are very few blind spots for the camera. The light is plenty bright and lights a good distance on the darkest of nights. Make sure to adjust the lights so they do not shine in the neighbors windows, unless you really don't like them. I am joking. Be kind. The camera displays in the Tapo app perfectly. Unfortunately, this could just be me, but the Tapo cameras do not display in the Google Home app. They will display on Chromecast devices and Google Assistant Display devices. Oddly, not on my phone. Overall, great spotlight. You can set schedules and monitoring zones with ease. Adding the Micro-SD card is a must. It does not need to be 512 GB, just get one at a good price. The larger the card the more history can be stored locally.

The TP-Link - Wired Floodlight Wi-Fi Security 2K Camera is a nice stylish design, with a easy installation process and nice application for video review. The video feed is very clear, with person and motion detection. The floodlights are VERY bright. So bright that for my uses, I have it set at only 10% so I do not distract any low flying planes! Kidding, mostly. I have recently used the Ring ecosystem for my security cameras but this offering from TP-Link will have me switching over to theirs. TP-Link took a lot of the ideas that came before them and made them easier to use and cheaper. I work from home and wanted to be able to keep an eye on things around the house while I am sitting at my desk. With other cameras, you need to use their app and pay their monthly fee. TP-Link allows for the video feed to be viewed by other software. Something that I was only able to do with D-Link and some unknown name brands. Ring protects their feed. The install was probably the best part of the process. I was pleased to see that the mounting ring itself is what gets wired in. There are two pins on the camera that snap into place on the mounting ring for power. This allows you to wire everything up and position it without worrying about dropping this really nice camera! Once wired in, you just snap the camera onto the mounting ring and secure with 2 screws.

There are two things that should be noted right off about this floodlight/security camera. Since it is a wired system, that means it is powered by household current and needs to be hardwired into your electrical system. Secondly, it also has to be mounted within range of your home Wi-Fi to be operational. Now with that out of the way, this floodlight camera system is top notch, from ease of installation to operation and features and quality. The quality of the build materials seems very good, it appears it will be durable and weatherproof. I had to start by running a new electric line in my garden shed for hookup over the door where I wanted to place the light. After that, installation was a snap. The included installation instructions are easy to follow and Tapo supplies all the hardware you might need whether installing onto an electric box or against a flat surface, including pre-installed gaskets to keep moisture out. It took maybe 15-20 minutes to complete installation. Be sure to turn off the circuit breaker before making the electrical hookup! Once installed, download the Tapo app to activate and setup the floodlight and camera. There are options for everything. Choose detection type for motion, people, pets or vehicles, any combination or all. Choose sensitivity level for each type. Sensitivity detection is very powerful, on the default setting I was picking up motion over 50 feet away. The motion sensor has a wide field of 270 degrees. The camera has 2K QHD resolution and also can be set to 720P, with a 150-degree field of view and night color. The floodlight has 2800 lumens with light color temperature of 5000K. It's very bright, I've got mine set to 75% and it lights up the entire area I want to monitor very easily. Auto on sensitivity and duration are also adjustable. Other features include detection zones and line crossing, and light and recording schedules. Storage and recording of videos can be done locally with a micro-SD card or choose the optional cloud storage for $2.99 per month after a 30-day free trial. I chose to use a micro-SD card, which installs in the camera. Then you can download your recordings locally from your SD Card. You can get a 64GB card for $10 and it works just fine. Notifications can be turned on or off for all types of detections. There is also a feature called Rich Notifications, which includes a snapshot of the object detected, however that feature is only available if you sign up for their cloud storage. Bottom line this is a high quality, feature rich, highly customizable floodlight/security camera system at a reasonable price.

We recently bought a new home in a new city. I had some hesitations due to the city being known for the high crime in certain areas, and I wanted to have that assurance of home protection. I was drawn to the TP-Link TC-55 Smart Floodlight Camera. My parents use TP-Link products and had nothing but good things to say, so I wanted this for our new home. I was struck at the size of this camera floodlight system. Setting it up took some time as I had to see where I wanted to install this in our home. There wasn't that many options to set up as there were little light fixtures at the side of the home for me to install this. The hardest part was removing the previous lights, but after that, the floodlight assembly had everything I needed to install properly. Attaching the wires to the base was where I needed help as I am a novice to all of this. The TC-55 is an amazing light system. The 2800-lumen light is insanely bright (which is adjustable), as I know for sure that this can cover the 270-degree motion detection area stated. It offers the best coverage where anyone entering into its range will be illuminated up, even at night where it can provide clear night vision up to 30ft away. The blind spots are now limited in this 150-degree field of view of high-definition resolution. Night vision quality is detailed enough for me to see. I was concerned about any smart system not being to distinguish between people and animals, as there are a lot of stray animals roaming the neighborhood as well as neighbors walking their dogs. I enjoyed seeing the Smart AI able to tell the difference and thus, not having false alarms like what I experience with the doorbell camera systems. As it is outside underneath the roof overhang, it can survive the elements with the IP65 weatherproof rating. Rain will not be a cause of concern in damaging the lights or camera lens. Overall, this was the first time I had ever installed a camera system like this. I benefited having my dad help me, who is a retired electrical engineer to assist with the wiring setup. I like how clean this looks on our outside wall and the monitoring assurance from this.

Easy Install, Decent App, Great Flexibility

This TP Link floodlight cam is a great option for anyone looking to add a bit of surveillance and security to their property. While still requiring a power line, this set allows for some pretty nice flexibility of setup. Installation was straight forward using the included components and instructions. They have hardware for both a junction box install and for a non junction box install (either direct wire or net new installation). It comes with a template for those needing to drill new holes, and overall, I found the installation procedure to be really easy overall. Linking up with the app was more or less straightforward, but it did require that I put my phone into airplane mode before it would connect to the unit's built in Wi-Fi. After that, setup was quick and easy. The app, overall is ok. Not the best interface, but it gets the job done. At this point is where the consumer is faced with a big decision: onboard/local video storage using an SD card, or cloud based storage using a paid subscription. The fact that they allow you to use your own storage is a great usability feature. Most camera products these days are nothing more than devices to push a subscription service. I appreciate the fact that that's not the case here. While the subscription is far from required, it does add a few nice features to the camera for those looking for the added convenience of loud based storage. Overall, this device works great as both a security cam and as a motion floodlight. Video quality is pretty solid (definitely not the best, definitely not the worst), and the motion activation features and object identification all seem to work as expected. The only issue I have with it is that it tends to alert on motion when trees sway in the wind. It would be nice to have a filter for tree/landscape motion, but otherwise, this has been a great unit. Highly recommended for those looking for this type of device. Overall

I am realizing that having a floodlight camera is pretty much a no brainer, why have just a camera or just a floodlight when you can have both in one. The TP Link WiFi Floodlight camera is a great addition to your home security system. In the box it comes with everything you need to install the floodlight it includes the floodlight itself and a mounting plate that has a leveling bubble which I thought was pretty cool as it helps you level the light when you mount it. For me installation was fairly simple as I was replacing an existing outside light fixture. For those putting up this floodlight as a new fixture you made need to hire an electrician. After installing the floodlight and inserting a micro SD card and downloading the TP app I was all set to go. The app is user friendly with all the controls you would expect. The camera itself boast 2K resolution and a wide 270 degree field of view helping you to catch every corner. You can also set activity zones within the app. The lights itself provide 2800 lumens which are really bright and are very adjustable to most any angle you need. There is also two way audio for when you need to communicate as well as alarms. One of the most important features to me is that it is subscription free, i hate having to pay for another subscription. Overall great floodlight camera that provides you with all the features you need while also being subscription free.

I got this camera because I am very happy with another tapo pan/tilt camera that I have. And I was overdue to replace an old solar powered motion sensor light on my garage. I did not know this was a hard wired camera when I initially got it, so having to do the wiring was an unexpected step for me. It was a big inconvenience for me. The setup was very easy since I already had the app installed from my previous camera. The WiFi connectivity was not an issue either, I have multiple networks in my home. The 2K picture quality was very good, it actually looked better than the other 2K cameras that I have monitoring my home. I also wanted to note that internal storage is a must for me these days and this camera has that. I'm tired of being asked to subscribe to get the fully functionality of my devices. Using the app for live view and playback of events was straighforward and easy to use. The night vision was clear with and without the bright light on. When the light come on the night vision turns back to color. The lights are very bright which is a good thing. My old solar powered lights were not very bright anymore and I got used to it. I lowered the brightness to my liking and that reolved me being blinded. I give this camera and light five stars and I would recommend it to my friends.
