I had been looking around of a consol headset for awhile that wasn't too expensive. The AX180s stood out to me compared to the Turtle Beach x1s for it removable mic boom, good reviews and cool design. The Good Design/Build: Imediatly after opening the packaging, I was impressed. The headset and cords seemed very sturdy. The top and ear cups seemed very well padded. The outside of the cups have a very nice rubbery finish that feels good to the touch. When actually putting them on, they were always too tight for my head no matter how I ajusted them. Overall, they did feel very nice. Audio quality: When playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, I was able to hear sounds I had never noticed previously. Gun fire and explosions stood out very well and I was genearly able to tell the direction it was coming from. When listening to slower rock music I was very impressed with how good they sounded. The Bad Set up: This thing has alot of cords. The cords are far too long if you sit next to your TV but too short if you sit a good distance away. Although the headset includes simple instructions setting it up on all of the major consoles. Although it should be noted that you have may have get behind your TV to set it up. Audio Quality: When playing Rock Band 2, the sound seemed very hallow compared to my old headphones. The bass of these are very heavy. So much so that when listening to music with constant bass, or getting into a major firefight in COD with constant explosions, it actually hurt. Even with the volume turned low it still gave me headaches. When putting the headset on after setting it up with my Xbox 360 the first thing I hear is a loud hissing noise. Upon INCREASING the voice volume on the headset, the hissing fadded, but was then replaced by a buzzing noise the higher the volume. Microphone: Garbage. Not only was it worse than one that came with the system, it kept giving feedback to other players, even if the mute switch was on. If you so much as touch the mic cord that connects to the xbox controller, it gives terrible popping sounds to the person with the headset, and other players as well. Overall Avoid it like the plauge. Save your money. The few good things about it do not make up for the headaches, hissing, popping, and terrible microphone .

Ok, so if your like me your reading these reviews before you make your purchase. Good idea. Now I have a PS3 and play MW2 EVERY night. I have already burned up a PS3 and I can't even remember how many bluetooths. Anyway, I wanted to upgrade to a headset type system but didn't want to spend a lot of money. Now I read the reviews and I saw quite a few people talking about the durability of this headset. Against my better judgement I went and bought one anyway (with the extended warranty). I got home and removed the items from the package. After about 10 minutes of work I was up and running. Now I have to say, the sound that this headset had was amazing. I heard subtle sounds that I never heard with my 1000watt surround sound system. They were comfortable and the guys I play with said I sounded great with no hiss or "cutt outs". That's were my love for this product stopped. After 45 minutes. That's right I said 45 minutes, the right earpiece popped while I was wearing it. I took off the headset and noticed that the connection between the headset and the frame had fallen right out. I tried to push the earpiece back in but it was no use. This product is poorly made and not worth the money. Everything people are saying is true. I took the unit back and purchased the 720 model. As soon as I took it out of the packaging I could tell it was a better made unit. No problems and yes I took out the extended warranty again. If your looking for a system like this, spend the extra money and get the upgraded headset. You'll thank me later

Ok, so I bought these things like a year ago right; then the little plastic strip that holds the earpiece to the rest of the mic kind of just broke under normal stress of pulling it open to use it. Most people would just take it back, but i wrapped some gorilla tape around it and it fixed it for a while. It kind of wore off after a while, and i have found the perfect solution for the people who buy this and it breaks. Just use gorilla glue, it makes the headset stronger than before and holds it together. But I do believe that Tritton could make a better headset, so I am gonna buy the AX 720 soon. Everything else about the AX 180 is great though, good sound because of the high quality wires, much clearer than wireless, infrared headsets. Very, and i emphasize VERY comfy. Some people say weight is a problem and causes headaches, and I guess it can, but i personally never got them and i wear the headset hours on end. So if you are looking for a comfy and cheap headset with good sound quality, then these are perfect for you. Although i do advise that they will most likely come apart so it may be wise to invest in some high strength glue so you can fix them when it does break.

I am writing this review to hopefully help another person in their gaming headphone purchase. This is just my story. Please don't base your whole decision just with my opinion, read other ones as well. I purchased the Tritton AX180 for my son so he would stop using mine all the time. At first he was really happy with them. They sounded great. After about 2 weeks the mic broke. The piece of plastic that holds the mic in the headphone snapped and it wouldn't stay attached. My first thought was "not a problem". I had purchased these because of the removable mic, I thought if it ever broke I would be able to buy a replacement and problem would be fixed. Well I thought wrong. I tried to find a replacement mic for about 2 weeks. The company was out of stock... Nice. I managed to tape the mic in so it would work until they were in stock again. Which comes to my next problem, an earpiece fell off. I can't realistically tape that together. I threw them out and purchased a pair of Turtle Beach for him. I also have the Tritton A720. I will be bringing these back to Best Buy because other people cannot hear me clearly. The reason I state this is because Tritton is batting 0% with me. 2 sets of headphones and both have problems. No Thank You!! I will never buy another pair of Tritton anything again. There is just not the quality there to spend my hard earned money on. I hope this helps in your decision.

These Are a Great pair of Headphones if you are a PC, Mac, or PS3 user you have no problem and you should go and buy these if you are looking for a pair of gaming headphones but if you are an xbox 360 user you will want to think twice before buying these. Pros - the sound quality is great, when playing games such as MW2 ( Modern Warfare 2 ) the foot steps of your enemy is loud as a..... well a footstep. and when playing music on the computer it is loud and clear and it almost feels like you have a Really Expensive pair of Bose or Beats by Dre. Cons (only for Xbox 360 users) - The connector that Tritton Technologies Supplies isn't up to par. Sorry but i hate to say it they are. they only supply a flimsy cable that doesn't sit properly in the controller and when you try to use it this is what is going to happen. it will work for the first 10min or so then your friends or team mates will start saying what is that noise? then they wont be heard because the connection will completely cut out. once you try to fix it you will be able to hear them again but now you hear the clicking and they still do too. Fix- try another cable that fits the small jack on the controller. or what i've done is i have an older MW2 Throat Communicator that i just stick the ear peace in and then put the headphones over top of that. it work fine for me but is uncomfortable during long playing times. If you are only looking for something to use on your computer or ps3 these are a great buy but if you are a xbox 360 player. try before you buy. it gets a little annoying trying to fix it constantly and it doesn't stay fixed for very long either. unless you don't move a body part while playing games. my verdict Buy these..... unless you are an xbox 360 user then try a pair of Turtle Beach X1.

I've been a Turtle Beach guy from day one. I've owned X-41's and DX-11's. I recently came home to find that my dog had gotten ahold of my last headset. I decided to give the Tritton 180's a shot, to replace the X-11's that were damaged. One session was all I needed to convince me that I'll be returning these for another set of X-11's today. First the Pros: -The bass sounded pretty good plugged in to my Turtle Beach DSS sound processor. -Easy enough to hook up and get going. On to the Cons: -I've got questions about the quality and if you read other users reviews, you'll know why. -The inline controls are a bit clunky. -The mic, while flexible, still is a bit awkward. I enjoy the ability to pivot the mic up and out of the way. -Finally and the biggest dealbreaker of all was comfort. I can see these causing a lot of fatigue over long sessions. They feel heavy on top of your head. The ear cups are small and shallow and don't breathe well at all. I've got a small head and small ears and they still made my ears feel claustrophobic. They shallowness caused my ear cartilidge to rub the hard plastic face of the speaker the whole time, which really hurt. And the fact that they didn't breathe well, caused my ears to get so hot. If I were to rate my X-11's a 9 in comfort, I'd have to give these around a 4. For $10 less, buy the X-11's, you'll be glad you did.

I bought this in 11/2009 because I needed a way to be able to play without disturbing my parents during my late night game sessions. It was my first gaming headset and I was very pleased with it. I was able to hear everything from the footsteps of my enemies in COD:MW2 to ambient sounds of GoW2. The headphones were pretty comfortable. I didn't get the "sweaty ears" from long gaming sessions like I would normally have with cupped ear pieces. The length of the cord was just long enough for me since I have a small setup. And the mic wasn't in the way much either since it was small. My gripe with this product is the mic itself. I should have stuck with my gut feeling about it from day 1. Sure my friends were able to hear me more clearly and loud. But when online, the mic would act as if I was unplugging and replugging the mic cord into the jack periodically. I figured it was my controller since it was old. So, I just limited my movements so that it wouldn't cut in and out so much. I just recently purchased a new controller (a Hori turbo pad) and the periodic cuts were still there. So I began to fear it was the cabling. It started to get worse, up until two days ago, when the mic completely stopped working. I did mic checks, voice records, and such to see what could have been the problem. Nothing but static dead air. To make sure it was just the headset, I plugged in my original wired headset that came with the system and it works. So now my mic is officially dead after 2 and a 1/5 months of owning this thing. If you planning on getting this for the convenience of audio and mic capabilities, I suggest getting the extended warranty along with it.

I hate it. What a piece of junk! For starters, it's FAR too expensive! I bought it since I was looking for a mic that could work with both my Xbox 360 and PC at the same time because I'm sick of buying those cheap xbox-brand microphones that cost about twenty dollars a piece when I've gone through about three now. So I stopped at a local Best Buy and couldn't find a mic that would work with both the PC and Xbox. I gave up looking and decided to buy a mic for the PC and the Xbox-brand mics before this model caught my eye. It was pretty expensive but looked promising. So about two days later I see the left earpiece hanging by a wire. I barely used it, and I handled it carefully. It's also pretty heavy for a mic. I went back to Best Buy and exchanged it for another. I use it for when I'm PC gaming, but after a while it hurts the top part my ears after wearing it for a while. I looked at the manual and there were SO many steps just to get the mic to work for the Xbox/PS3! When I tried this for myself wires were everywhere! Far too many wires! What really made me upset with this product was that I can't use the mic for the Xbox because the microphone requires a USB port so it can work. Since I have the Xbox LIVE wireless adapter model that takes up a USB port, I couldn't plug in the mic because the xbox that I own is only equipped with one USB port. It's pretty good when it comes to use for gaming on the PC, however I probably could of found a mic is just as good for a better price. Do not buy this model! It's a waste of money!

I bought these cause the girlfriend was trying to sleep and I was keeping her awake with my late night gaming. Let me tell you this was the best gaming purchase beside my 2 systems. Works with my PS3 and 360. The sound is incredible great bass and sharp highs smooth mids. You don't know how much of a game you miss until you strap these bad boys on things you hear you never would think were there. The comfort that you get is outstanding they don't squeeze the head the padding is thick and comfortable for long hour sessions. Easy volume control both game and voice right there a couple feet from ear which sets perfectly in your lap no searching around its just there. You would think it would be a hassle with all the cords not really nice and clean. I would recommend plugging them into your TV's audio out jacks this way you don't have to switch from system to system. But just in case all goes wrong I purchased the extended warranty well worth the extra $12. I won't game with out them even during the day because its just better then the TV or Surround sound. Let me start off by saying this: AX 720's > These > Turtle beach x31's So I picked these up and had them for about 2-3 weeks. They were pretty good, got the job done for all my gaming needs. Problem was, you dont get true surround sound and most importantly, no directional hearing. Yet if you're going to get these to enhance your online gaming experience, they will definitely help. To put it into perspective, say you wanted these for playing a online shooter such as Call of Duty. If your chillin, you will hear peoples foot steps creeping up on you, problem is, you wont know from what direction. So you will be alerted to someone being in the area, but you wont be able to pinpoint it. With that being said, that's why these are budget headsets. They are MILES better than turtle beaches entry level set (the x31's iirc). These got some NICE bass, which is unfortunately what is a little lacking with the AX 720s. I use the Tritton AX 720s atm and they are the BEST headset I have ever used (minus the lack of real 'OOMPF' with the bass). They rival Astros imo and TONS cheaper than astros. Overall though these are a nice purchase and well worth the money. If you got another few bucks to spare, get the AX 720s though. If not, pick these up, we wont regret it.

I bought this to replace my broken earforce x1 headset. When i first got it set up, i plugged it into my computer and i was disgusted by the sound of my mic. I recorded myself, and listened to it. But, when i got onto xbl, got everything all set up, all my friends told me i sounded fine. I was amazed by the sound quality. The higher u turn it up, the clearer it gets! The mic was nice cuz its short, and u cant even see it while ur playing. But about a week and a half after buying this headset, i noticed how if u move with ur mic plugged into ur controller too much, it makes this horrible, loud distortion noise that u and ur friends can hear, even over xbl. So, i had to b really careful not to let the thing move too much. The next thing was that it came unplugged easily. Without using the two pins on the side of where u actually plug in the headset, it easily comes out. Finally, today while playing a game, my mic just stops working. I can hear voices on the game- channel, but not on the party chat. So, i unplug and replug in my mic a few times, to find that wont work. Then, i tried a different controller, and it didnt work, and i tried restarting my xbox, and it didnt work. Im going to return this headset. I was thinking i was going to use the earforce x31, but that uses batteries. COOL, now i dont have a headset

well when i bought these i went ahead and decided to buy the warrenty, after about 2 weeks the headphones just snapped in half. it appears the plastic part the get stressed when you pull the headphones apart to put them on your head are weak and they dont last long. if you dropped these on hard floor they would probably break, the cord tangles up into a giant mass of tangled cords, i cant stop it either. the cord it just awful, kinda like my grammer. the mic sounds awful, i have recorded myself and i sound like a giant static noise. i had to take the ones back that snapped and i got the same ones again, the mic went out in 2 days and it just wont work anymore. after awhile the headphones give you a headache because they are so heavy. and sometimes i hear a faint buzzing in the background when im in ventrilo that i cant seem to turn off and that will give you a headache. ive had to take them back multiple times so if you do decide to buy them get the warrenty because ive had to take them back 3 times. not worth the time effort and money to get these

    Tritton Ax180. Good Deal

I'm going to start with this: This review is the unfiltered truth. My Story: I bought a pair or Plantronic headphones for $30 because at the Best Buy I could not find the Ax180's. So I brought them home to find 1. They don't work with the Ps3 2. They are very uncomfortable 3. Cheap materials. Next day I return them and buy the Tritton Ax180's for $64 total. Setting these headphones up one MUST use the guide. There are many things to adjust so they work but when it's setup you don't have to change a thing back. To wear the headphones comfortably you must take about 10 minutes of your time to find the perfect settings. These headphones have a nifty inline controller so you can adjust audio from game and voice independently. The clip that comes with the headset on the wire broke off the day I used it but I really saw no need for it anyway. The controllers mute switch sometimes gets stuck in mute position even though you have physically pushed the switch up. Audio isn't perfect. Turning up the volume on the Ps3 makes a medium-high ringing sound that stays. These headphones ARE the best headphones for the Ps3 in it's price range but if you are using a Xbox look into Turtle Beach. My next purchase will be the Tritton AxPro which is about 3x the price of these headphones.

Well I wrote a nice lengthy review and come time to submit I get an error and it gets erased. To sum it up, this product is pure QUALITY even the box it came in. Intelligent design - detachable mic, break-away inline controller, these guys have thought of it all! The only downside for me is the odd-shape of the ear cups. My ears were slightly sore after a few hours of gaming. Nothing I'd cry about, just FYI if you have large ears like me - you can expect them to feel funny after you've been wearing this thing for hours. Better than the splitting headache I got from the P21's loud background "hissing" noise. Very slight hissing present when voice volume is turned all the way down, nothing too loud or annoying, it's barely audible and when you turn the voice volume up a little it completely goes away. The sound is amazing, crisp and clean. Bass is solid. More importantly in-game (MW2) I was easily able to point out exactly where footsteps were coming from. I will be returning the Turtle Beach P21's as they have failed me in this department. All this from a BASE model too! I'm VERY impressed with Tritton and I'd love to see/hear what their PRO series (5.1 Dolby digital optical!!!) has to offer.

Considering what you pay for this product, I would have to say that they are well worth it. They have definitely improved my gaming experience, and I am glad i bought them. They allow you to hear things you would never hear without them, and they do an excellent job of trapping the noises in (so that you do not disturb others) and out (so that others do not disturb you). I have read some reviews-- where others are complaining about the cord, or that they are not as good as the turtle beaches, for which i would again reply... for what you pay for this product... they are well worth it. The fact is, they are not turtle beaches, BUT you won't find turtle beaches at this price either. Tritton does make a wireless headset, and does offer a model with even greater sound quality... but you have to pay a different price to get those too. I love this product, and would definitely recommend it to others. I am not a big fan of the cord, but i DID NOT purchase a wireless head set... so why would i complain about that? Regarding the cord however, i do wish their was a way to extend or lengthen them, but THAT, and perhaps a splitter for multi-player functionality, would be all that i would say is wanting.

Well i'm a big Call of duty fan, so you can pretty much hear a leaf drop behind you and someone across the whole map moving, big plus for me. i myself take wonderful care of my stuff like my Xbox 360, my games, Etc. and my first pair after the first month went BOOM and got screwed from there snap crackle pop. so i replaced them and its been a good four days and the new ones for some odd reason all the controls are backwards. For example you turn the voice volume down it goes up and hisses, the microphone was in pieces right out of the box which means i had no chat. and about 3 hours ago they did the same thing as the first ones did BOOM. so tomorrow i am gonna exchange for the same thing and if all else fails i will get the X1 turtle beach. and if you are highly interested in this product I strongly suggest you buy the 2 years extended warranty for $9.99. so to sum it all up they are great headphones perfect for movies late night gaming and all your other headphone needs. But try and shop around a little and read all the reviews before you purchase a headset. and i wish you the best of luck with this product. have a good one. the Gamertag is Turbo2326 (add me).

This headset is great buy. I picked mine up tonight and have played a few hours of MW2 with them on my 360 and so far I'm impressed. I don't know why I didn't pick up a pair sooner. I was going to go with the Wireless X3's but decided after the negative reviews I would go with these, and although I can't compare, I'm not dissapointed. There is a hissing noice when I turn the voice volume all the way down, which isn't a problem, because even a fraction turned up you still can't hear people if you want that sound down. The mute button is also on the unusually large volume control, that has a break away feature like the 360 controller only not as easy to detatch. It has great ambient sound for not being surround sound, and definitely lets you hear the direction things are coming from. They also feel very comfortable around my ears, and I have some big ears, but they sit nicely on my head, it would be nice if they had a width adjust but I didn't feel like they were causing any discomfort at all. This is by far the best purchase I've made as far as a gaming accessory goes since I can remember.

Ok I read the reviews like anyone else did. Saw the problems people were having and thought, " they just didn't know how to set it up correctly." I was so WRONG. The mic is very picky when you set it up, it took me about 40 minutes to get it working correctly. not just that but the wires were very cumbersome. Couldn't move hardly at all without the wires pulling on the headset. oh but they give you a little clip to attach to yourself to help with that...promise it doesn't help much. Finally the big issue I have with this. THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH AFTERMARKET CONTROLLERS!!!!!!! AT ALL!!! Ok for anyone that didn't understand that phrase. It only works with the controllers that come out of the box with your console. When those give out or break and you have to get a new controller...the headset won't work with it. You can hear the game but Xbox live...forget it. Going to try the Turtle Beach Wireless. As soon as I get it in I will let you know how it works...oh yeah forgot about one more con the bass is overwhelming. and the controls for the game audio and the voice audio are also very picky

Above pretty much sums this headphone/headset up. The sound is great for what you pay for. The fact that it's USB is awesome. Easy plug n play to a mac and a pc. They are very comfortable even after like 3 hrs of gameplay. The only grip I really have is that if you DO NOT own the Microsoft HDMI Audio adapter, this WILL NOT WORK with HDMI. I have a Mad Catz HDMI audio adapter that DOESN'T have the RCA L/R audio connectors so this headset doesn't work with that adapter. But, it will work with the MS one because that on has the RCA jacks. So, for me, I would have to spend another $40 to $50 for that MS adapter to make this work with my HDMI set up. I had to revert back to Component cables in order to use this headset. My reason for buying this headset is when I am playing CoD 4: MW, my son is usually asleep and I can't have the surround sound on to the volume I usually play so I needed a headset/headphone combo for the new MW2 coming out in 2 1/2 weeks. This is perfect EXCEPT for the reason stated above. Hope this review is helpful to all that read the entire thing. Good day!

Do you know what white noise is? Like turning on an old TV and seeing snow and hearing that background noise. Well I tried this head set on two TVs and got white noise, which was moderately annoying. It only occurs when sitting on say the xbox dashboard and not having any sound input but once you get something going, a game or some music, the white noise gets drowned out. The real downer was the limited maximum volume, I was really hoping I could get these to slump but they run off USB power. There is no amp for this unit like the AX720. Also the AX720 is crystal clear all the time with no white noise and can be turned up a lot louder. It does suffice as far as headsets go, it is comfortable and the sound quality, although not as loud as I like, is decent. This headset would be okay if you have never had a gaming headset because you would not have anything to compare it to. I say pony up the extra dough and get the Tritton AX720.
