The movie, albeit long, moves along a good pace, with mercifully brief romantic and philosophical breaks between the combat scenes. This movie is action, with more than a little thought put into accurately presenting the realities of the tactics used in Greek warfare. Troy is also to be congratulated for not over-armoring the cast like previous Hollywood productions and staying true to the lightness of armor prevalent during the historical period. Lovers of Homer and Greek mythology may be disappointed but keep in mind this film is about the Trojan War, not the Iliad. This war is epic in scale and isn't about poetry. Still, it would be great if Sean Bean were given the opportunity to play Odysseus again. Although not on screen much in Troy, his performance is edgy and true to the legends of the cunning king of Ithaca.

A Little Better Than The Original

I am a big fan of extended and director's cuts and this is one of them. It's no 'Lord of the Rings' or 'Kingdom of Heaven' cuts, but it did liven up the story a bit. There are more action clips incorporated into the already existing ones (Warning to parents: the scenes are more graphic than before and). The extra clips go into the lives of the characters more, which is always a bonus. If you haven't seen 'Troy' already, this is something you would want to buy, but if you have, it is a great addition to your collection.

This film came out not long after the Lord of the Rings. I enjoyed it immensely at the time. After seeing Rings, I was ready for a epic scale film about the Battle Of Troy. I enjoy much of Brad Pitt's work and his performance in Troy is one of my favorites. He is intense, intimidating, and when he fights, he is an butt kicker, and pulls it off perfectly. There are times in the film when Pitt looks like a Greek statue. I thoroughly enjoyed the extra scenes in the movie. I tend to prefer Director's/Extended Cuts, and I do prefer the Director's Cut over the theatrical version. Recommended to all

Troy is of reference quality on Blu-ray. Each color is reproduced with stunning clarity and lifelike accuracy. The greens of the foliage seen throughout the picture from time to time are also faithfully reproduced. Detail is very high. Characters look strikingly real and their clothing and armor look great.Nearly as good as the video quality is the PCM uncompressed 5.1 soundtrack that accompanies the film. Finally breaking away from their norm of releasing Blu-ray discs with only a lossy Dolby Digital track, the inclusion of the PCM track hopefully represents a new direction with the Warner Bros.

I purchased the Blu-Ray version for obvious reasons. Thoroughly enjoyed the added scenes, however I was disappointed about ONE thing. The music that played during the battle scene between Achilles and Hector was different in the Blu-Ray version, & even tho' I understand this was a decision made by the movie studio, I firmly believe they didn't think that through as well as they should have. Big mistake. The music during the fight in the original version appeared more fitting for a duel-to-the-death! Someone tell the director he is fired!

I like this movie very much. The critics gave it a bad rap. The only problem I have with the extended cut is that the CGI blood looks pretty fake. But the copy of the film and the extras are all excellent. The best part is the fight between Brad Pitt's Achilles and Eric Bana's Hector. The highlight of the movie. I didn't mind that the Gods were mostly left out, it gave it a more realistic feel. Brian Cox is as usual, tremendous.

I really enjoyed Troy. Unlike other epic films regarding ancient lands or myths a la Alexander, the movie moves very well. There seems to be a fluidity to the plot unlike a lot of films of the same genre. Likewise, the acting is very well done, specifically from Eric Bana and Brad Pitt. They adequately capture the perspective of the brooding hero who faces attacks of conscience and morality while upholding imperial/national/operational loyalty. Overall, a very good film and very good effect work.

Normally I don't recommend additional releases of the same movie unless upgrading your definition however this unrated director cut surprised me, and even better made the movie more in-depth and exciting although raising the acceptable watching age in the process. So even if you own this on bluray, BUY THIS VERSION ONLY AT BESTBUY.COM You won't be caught with your shield down if you do so!

I really enjoyed Troy and the fact that there seems to be a little more with the directors cut. It has a lot of well know actors and has some good camera work to back them up. I really liked the price that I found with it and it had an added perk. It's a good movie to watch and you'll probably revisit it from time to time. There's a lot of good that comes with the movie and a few holes as well but that may just be me. It's a fun movie to watch.

This is a great movie. It is a must have on blu-ray. This is the directors cut and has 30 extra minutes in the film. I do think there were places the movie had that did drag out that were cut out before. It still works, especially if you like long movies. The cast is great and now you get to see a little more into their characters. If you like history type of films or action movies this is a must see. This version is a lot more bloody, just to warn you.

The movie contains some eye candy video footage throughout the movie. The video quality is better than theater. The sound is so pure, you'd swear the actors were in your living room. The extra 30 minutes of never before scene footage was a total bonus. The movie had come on HD movie channel recently but BD is so much better in PQ/AQ. The best way to view such a great movie is 50" Plasma with PS3 BD player using HDMI cable. Simple yet brilliant.

this is one of the best movies i've ever watched. I came in watching with an open mind and felt it was one of the most thorough movie put together. better than gladiator 300 all of them. Touches on love, pride, family, honor, loyalty, friendship, and glory. All these people talking about it not living up to the poem may have a point but go in watching the movie with an open mind and it'll be well worth the $ and time spent doing so.

Despite the inexplicable changes wrought to Homer's original tale, this movie succeeds as a big-budget, Hollywood adaptation of the Iliad...for the most part. Ignore the "damsel in distress" plot line and focus instead on the fine performances of Brad Pitt and Eric Bana as Achilles and Hector, as well as the production value and overall look and feel of this interpretation of the classical material.

This movie is great but is not highley reated. This movie feature characters such as: Prince of Troy (Orlando Bloom), Queen of Sparta (Diane Kruger), King Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson), Agamemnon (Brian Cox), King of Troy (Peter O'Toole), and many more. Prince of troy falls in love with the queen of troy, so Agamemnon is hoping to expand his empire all the way through troy. This movie is great so you should get it.

This was a pretty good movie. The artistic direction was fantastic and it was action packed but not too gory. The only problems is the story messes with very important parts from the poem. I'm not going to give anything away, but if you love the Iliad, you might want to shy away. But then again, how many people "love" the Iliad. Brad Pitt was in top form, and Eric Bana as Hector was great casting.

This edition of Troy, which has an additional 30 minutes of unseen footage is much better than the original theatrical version. There is more character dynamics have also been improved and intensified. You will see it when viewing the inner turmoil between Achilles and his Rival, Hector. This is the version that you will want to view.

I have watched this movie a few times, over the years, and it NEVER gets old. This was a very well cast movie. Many big names. I especially liked Brad Pitt in his role.....a perfect choice to play Achilles. Great special effects, great battle sequences, and some great acting. I think I may have to watch Troy this weekend.

Ever since I first saw this movie I feel in love with it. When it came out on blue ray it was a must have. You only live once and this movie must be experienced on blue ray with a great surrond sound and great flat screen television. Yeah it might be expensive but we work hard for a reason this movie is one of those reasons with the right equipment to view it with.
