    Cool Headset

The Ear Force X1 headphone are among some of the best sounding headphones I’ve used for gaming and no matter how loud I tuned up the amp they kept feeding me with crisp, loud and snappy sounds that not only heightened game play but also had an amazing effect on the air inside the headphones. Midrange could do with a tweak for general music playback though. The Mic is of a high quality, much better than Microsoft's and I really could not find fault with them. The ‘Puck’ on the other hand was the biggest let down in this package, the quality leaves a lot to be desired and it really needs to be redesigned a little to fit the controller a lot more snugly. But having said this I had no problems with the ‘Pucks’ function at all. I feel the quality of the speakers in the headphones makes this package as they really do knock out some very impressive sound with the included amp, especially for the shear size of it and left me and several friends quite amazed. The only thing I would like to see improved here is to either move the mute button onto the ‘Puck’ or make it easer to switch the mute on and off. Retailing at only $59.95 these headphones offer very good value for money, unfortunately they are currently only available in the U.S or Canada. But overall I would recommend the Ear Force X1’s for all you hardcore gamers, they have comfort, sound quality and can be used anytime of the day or night. The only thing to consider is whether you are happy with a set of headphones that are very much wired.

I have had this product for about 2 weeks now and I can easily say this is one of the most useful things i have ever bought in my life. I use a computer monitor i also bought from best buy(W2361V-LG)for 1080P for my Xbox 360, and the monitor has no speakers so these were a gift from god in my situation. The sound quality and clarity is very good for what you pay, crisp and clear, plus amazing bass which actually rumbles the headphones on your ears. Although for the price I think they should have included Digital sound aswell such as optical for amazing sound quality. The volume will go INSANELY HIGH, WARNING: do not ever turn these up past 80% of their full volume, you WILL DAMAGE them and will also blow your eardrums out, no joke please listen to this. The voice chat is also seperately controlled so you can turn the voice up according to the level of volume you have so you can still hear your friends talking; the microphone is 10 times better quality than the xbox microphone headset, your voice will be MUCH clearer and other people will hear your dog barking outside with these, no joke it has happened to me with this headset, amazing quality. IMPORTANT READ THIS: For those people who have said you can not use these with HDMI, they are WRONG. Little kids don't know how to search google or read Turtle Beaches FAQ's. I use these with HDMI on my computer monitor; all you NEED to be able to use these with and HDMI setup is the Xbox 360 audio adapter that plugs into the back of your xbox where the normal AV hookups would plug in. Search google for Xbox 360 Audio Adapter, it only costs $30 and comes with an HDMI cable as well, best buy sells this piece aswell for $30. HDMI+Turtle Beaches is the way to go! amazing HDMI video quality with amazing sound+voice chat=the ultimate game immersion. Don't waste money on anything else, if you want the wireless version of these for $99 or the $199 ones. Go ahead they are even better, but if your on a budget, these X1's will do PERFECTLY with any setup, HDMI or AV. These also work with PC's, Listening to music with them is a whole new experience when they are rumbling so much they almost fall off your ears! By the way the cable that comes with these are 16-18 feet long one of the two im not sure but it is longer than two story house is high. They come with a velcroe strap so be sure to tie your cable up in a bundle otherwise your family will get tangled up in it xD. These also have height adjustment and the ear cups swivel, so they are VERY comfortable when they are dialed in on your ears. I am EXTREMELY satisfied with my purchase, worth EVERY $60 i paid for them. <3 X1s

I am truly impressed with these headphones. I'm a 26 year old who works in a legal environment all day. At night, I like to relax on the couch and play Call of Duty 4, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Halo 3, GTA 4, Gears of War, etc... My girlfriend and I live together and she goes to sleep early every night so the noise from my gaming has become quite a problem. It's been such a problem that a few arguments have ensued over my "free-time" and "stupid games." LOL... Anyway, she found these for me and I was very hesitant on purchasing them because of the set-up I use. I have my XBOX 360 hooked to a High-Defintion TV and I use the optical sound output and have it running to my Bose 321 system. Because of this, I didnt' think this item would work and if it did, I didn't think it would work well. However, I'm so very happy that I purchased these headphones! This may be hard to believe, but two days ago when I first tried these out, I could hear things through the headphones that I've never heard through my Bose speakers. Frankly, I was shocked. While playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2, I could hear doors opening behind me, gunfire going off to my left and right, footsteps coming towards my location, etc.. Something I really like that I didn't expect or even think about is that when you have the headphones on, not only is the game sound and muliplayer chat very clear, all other noise is blocked out. I'm also very impressed at how extremely loud these things can be. I really feel like these headphones give me an advantage now when playing multiplayer. In fact, over the last two days, I've alredy gotten so used to them that it seems 'better' playing with them. I had a difficult time choosing between the X1(wired) and X3(wireless) but I'm very glad I picked these. After they are hooked up, I have only one wire running from my couch to the entertainment center. Also, I like that this X1 version is powered by the USB port in the back of our 360's rather then by using batteries like the X3. If I had to find anything wrong with these, I would say that there may be a tad too much bass for my taste. When I throw gernades, they really sound like gernades! In summation, if you're kicking the idea around of buying these things, you absoultely have got to pull the trigger. I'm tellin ya, it'll shock you how good these things really are. Plus, what's it worth to know she can't complain anymore! : )

Expect a Headache The First Day

Like many people I bought this for COD4 which I play a LOT on my Xbox 360. I chose the X1 one over the X3 due to battery issues and a hissing sound I heard the X3 has. The Good: Great sound. You can hear things that normally you wouldn't. Surround sound capability makes them much better then the standard 360 headset. It's a major plus to be able to have the TV muted for night playing. The Bad: The wires people talk about aren't that bad but you do have to get used to them especially since the in game sound volume control is on the cord that attaches to the USB. I REALLY didn't like that when you turn the in game sound high you drown out almost all in game voices. (I did go to personal settings and put the voice chat to 10 as per instructions) Everytime I would start a match I would have to turn voices up to max and lower in game sound to 50-75% in order to hear voices which takes away from subtle noises you want to hear like footsteps. Once in the lobby this would have to be adjusted again so the music isn't so loud. One other thing I noticed is my buddy got in our lobby with an X3 and it constantly sounded as if he was screaming when talking. It only happened with him as my other buddy in the lobby with an X1 confirmed. Everyone else sounded normal. The headset immediately gave me a headache from the extreme sound which lasted the entire time I used it. I guess I will just have to get used to that. Final Review and Advice: All in all it was a good purchase. I would like to try out the X3 as it has a feature that raises in game voices when the in game sounds get too loud. Luckily, I have the 360 Elite which allows for HDMI and the adapter piece for the red and white plugs to go in easily. Make sure to unplug your USB when you turn off the 360 otherwise it will continue to power the headset needlessly. Hope this helps someone as the reviews I read here helped me make up my mind and buy it.

Ok so let me start by saying I went to target and got the G.I SkullCandy Gaming headset for Xbox and was pretty disappointed. The Sound Quality was decent but as most ppl say you cant really hear the players voices over pretty much anything other than sitting in a party chat. So I went and took them back today and went with the Turtle Beach X1s from best buy. First of all Super easy to setup. For those of you that think you cant use this with HDMI your WRONG!!! I use hdmi for everything. In the back of most TVs there is a Audio out for that AV cord, I use HDMI for everthing and have my surround sound on HDMI. But What I do is use the TV audio out and plug that in also to my surround sound to play all tv sounds From just aux 1 no matter what channel. Well Take the AV cord and plug it into that, or simply the TV Audio out in the back and you have HDMI's plugged in and the headset. Then Simply Follow the like 3 step process on the instructions they send you to tweak you sounds and your set. I personally use the Dobly 5.1, and it says to put the voice through headset only. In Short Dont waste your money on Skullcandy, Which btw was More expensive it was $86 with the tax vs the like 64 i payed for these. The sound is great easy to set up If you took the time to read what i wrote and had trouble with the HDMI with it that should help. Also pretty light weight and sound goes up loud! Only other down fall I found is if you have it up like all they way which you dont need you hear alittle static when no sound is going on.Over all Must buy for all late night gamers who need to keep it down such as I do.

The setup is pretty simple right out of the package. Just follow the instructions that came with the unit, plug each part in and power the headset via USB to your Xbox. You should go in to audio settings in the dashboard and adjust the digital output settings to Enable WMA Pro. This should give you a much better range for the Audiophiles while stretching the performance of these pairs. The headset does a great job in delivering a good resolution of sound. You don't need to worry about the television being on to loud either. They also fit comfortably over your ears, especially for those long play sessions. The main volume control works well and also the communicator control can dial in to tailor your exact liking. The only downside is that this is a wired unit and it does become a bit cumbersome and a trip hazard. The wire is long enough to reach a couch and it does come with a USB extension cable. The wires are also not sheilded, so they do tend to pick up noise especially if you have a cell phone next to the wires. The microphone is sensitive and does work very well, so do not take off the wind shield foam. You do this and you will get plenty of complaints of the sound you make breathing. This unit is also made of plastic. Its not too durable, so be a bit gentle and not throw this baby around. For the price and performance, this is totally worth it. Every other headset would cost you double or 4 times the amount you can get for these. Some say this works better than most.

Overall amazing headset, but it has some downfalls

Overall i have to say this is amazing. I tried it out at a buddy's house, 3 days later i went out and bought one for myself. At first i was irritated, because the setup is NOT easy. I figured you just plug into the 360 and you're ready to go. But you actually need to plug the USB into a power source (TV or 360), and then use the red and white component cables on the back of the TV. My problem is that my 360 is not very close to my TV, so i had to plug the headphones into my TV, not my 360 at all. That and the cord is really long. Other than that, i have not had any bad experiences. The cups sometimes squeeze your head so hard that your head and jaw will begin to hurt, other times it doesnt hurt at all. If you have a rechargeable battery pack, and you are charging and talking on the headset at the same time, it gives some static feedback, but its very little. Besides that they are very comfortable. The only other thing is if you play this with your friends, and you communicate with them over XBL, and you bought this headset to not wake anyone in your house. You may find yourself shouting across the house because with the game noise AND people talking in both of your ears, you really lose consciousness of how loud you're actually talking. I find myself shouting all the time when i dont mean to. Otherwise, its awesome. Much rather pay $60 for the extra wires than $100 for wireless, then have to buy new batteries every so often.

    Takes Gaming to Another Level

I bought this headset as a hardcore female gamer. My husband goes to bed early and supported my idea to buy this headset ;) I had been looking at the Turtle Beach X1 by recommendation from many other gamers. I finally went out and bought it once I broke my 2nd Xbox Headset. Boy do those break easily! Aside from the outstanding sound quality other's have reviewed, one thing that stands out is the ability to isolate sounds. I play a lot of Call of Duty4 and other FPS (first person shooter) games. One thing that always bugged me in COD4 was that I couldn't control the sound of voices. The game sound and in-game chat voices were all controled by 1 volume setting. Now with the X1, I have the in-game voice control by the controller and the sound volume on an piece that's connected to the wire. In regards to sound quality, it really is THAT good. Hearing sounds in COD4 really takes the game to another level. I hardly need to use any Radar now because I can hear everything. I am now calling to my teammates to tell them where I hear people and it's proving to be deadly! I can't imagine spending any more on any other headset. I chose the wired headset because you can't bring wireless to MLG Tournaments. Plus, others have had many problems with their batteries dying during games or the wireless not working properly.

I bought this for my 360 on friday, went home, and proceeded to play COD4 for about 5 1/2 hours straight because this headset upped my game that much. My living room in my apartment has the air intake for our central air system on the wall next to my TV, so any time the air kicked on, I'd have to crank the TV volume to almost max to even hear the game... but not anymore! With these headphones it blocks out so many outside noises and brings through the game with such a crisp clarity I can hear the flies buzzing in the dumpsters which I never even noticed before! 2 cons I have for this are if you wear the headset over an extended period of time, your ears can get sore and hot... but if you are smart and take breaks like i learned to, that takes care of that problem. The second issue is that when I have the charge cable plugged into my controller to charge and play at the same time, it creates a humming noise in the headset when I have the mic plugged in. If the mic is unplugged from the controller, the noise goes away. Its not extremely loud... just slightly annoying. All in all, for $60 bucks its the best headset your money can buy. With the extender, the cord goes probably around 8-9 feet, so if you're going to be further than that, either get another USB extender at your local hardware store, or shell out the money for a wireless headset.

This is probably the best thing i have ever bought for my 360, besides games and chargeable controllers. For $60, it's almost like stealing! The sound quality on these are absolutely amazing! Normally, if I was playing Modern Warfare 2, I could hear somebody moving around me, but there was little or no sense of direction. With these, I can tell exactly where enemies are coming from. No more losing 1v1's or losing a Search and Destroy match for your team. The one and only downside I could find (and trust me, I tried to find some) was that there were tons of wires. Most of them are connecting your xbox and your tv, but there's one really long cord going to your controller. But don't worry, this cord is plenty long, and you'll have tons of space to move around. But there were two goodsides about the wires: 1.No batteries! The X31's use batteries like crazy, and it gets annoying having to change them every other day. With this, you'll have no more changing batteries because of the really long cord. 2.No disconnecting mics, unless your cord falls out or you accidentally pull it out. With the X31's, if someone walks inbetween you and the reciever-thingy, the mic disconnects. But with the X1's, no disconnecting. I would highly recommend these for any hardcore gamer who doesn't want to spend hundreds of dollars.

    Everything is muddied or muffled

RUN, do not walk, but RUN AWAY from anything Turtle Beach. These headphones are NO exception. The sound that comes thru these headphones is of the poorest quality. They say they enhanced it by adding a bass boost. Problem is that it was at the sacrifice of all other sounds. Everything is muddied or muffled. Think you might use these to listen to music? Think again. CDs straight from the X Box sound like a poor quality MP3 being streamed from the internet. I tried listening to Last FM and it was worse. Why anyone would even listen to such poor sound is beyond me. I've worked in audio all my life, and if I could have listened to these before I bought them I would have put them down and laugh at the price. The quality is not even worth over $10. The only reason they cost so much is that they are for X Box and have the Turtle Beach brand name. The Turtle Beach brand is losing reputation in my opinion. This is the second set of head phones I got from them. the first we're $150 for PC. After getting it I found that they didn't even work on 64 bit systems, and it has been over a year with no new drivers for 64 bit. Stay away from Turtle Beach. At least then you will stand a chance at listening to quality sound.

This headset is amazing. The sound is the best part about it, as it should be for any headset. All the other reviews say that your ears get hot and it breaks. Well, the ears thing is true, your ears do get hot after a while (30 mins), but you dont notice how hot your ears are until you take the headset off. Your ears also might be in very minor pain, but when you're in the middle of a firefight, who cares. Some people have said that this headset is delicate and breaks easily. I have had mine for 2 days so far, so i dont know if the battery will run out of juice, but as long as you take the USB plug out of your Xbox when you're done playing, you should be fine. And with any product, if you treat it badly, drop it, rough it up and throw it, its going to be damaged and could break. If you take good care of this headset by not mishandling it, you should be fine. Overall, i think this headset is great. I was going to get another cheap Xbox headset, but I realized that they break every 3 months, and believe me, i take care of them. After a while, you lose the mic and it stops working, even if you treated it like your life depended on it working. Go Turtle Beach.

I bought this headset about 2 or 3 months ago, and could not wait to unbox it and start using it. The first thing I noticed is that the package it comes in is very tightly secured, a good pair of scissors really helps. When I finally ripped apart the plastic holding it in place, it was extremely easy to setup. The first thing I noticed when I put the headset on, was that there was a slight buzzing sound when the microphone was plugged in (I don't know if this is just mine or if anyone else has had this problem). The sound quality that came out of this headset was amazing, I could hear every footstep in the game. It's been about 2 or 3 months since I've had them, and they are still a great value. I would recommend these to anyone who wants a richer audio experience. I would give this headset a 4.5 out of 5. Pros: -Amazing sound quality. -Simple installation (plug and play). -Comfortable. -Great value over an Xbox 360 wireless headset (both $59.99). Cons: -Slight buzzing noise when microphone is plugged in (again, not sure if it is only mine or if it is with all X1 headsets). -Cords really detract from the wireless theme of current consoles.

    PERFECTION!

I wanted to get a headset for my XBOX. I had the option of getting these (X1's) or the X40's. These are definitely a better buy because they are extremely comfortable, and has great mic pickup. Even though I don't like all the extra 18' cords it comes with...that idea is GREAT just in case someone needs that much cord. I found, when I plugged in the USB connector into my laptop (yes, these headphones work with PCs as well) that the USB is a little loose and can be pulled out of the computer very easily. Its not a big deal, but I just thought I would let you know. It has GREAT sound quality and awesome bass. The only reason why I put the 'Comfort' rating at 4 stars is because, after a while playing with them on, they make my head feel uncomfortable. That could be just my head, since its 'large' and doesn't usually do well with any kind of headphones...sadly. My final verdict on this product would be: GET THEM! They are GREAT for the price and you shouldn't buy more expensive headphones unless you want to spend the money. If you are looking around for perfection. You found it with the Turtle Beach X1 headphones. :)

i thought this wouldl be a great headset from all the fanboy reviews, but in practice the 'puck' that connects the set to the control for actual chat breaks so easily that even a slight bend in the pin will result in non-connection. and the best part? this happens so often that the site is sold out of them every other day: http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/efx1/replacementparts.aspx each of these pieces cost 5$ (not counting shipping) (roughyl 10% of the device) (20% of original cost if you count shipping) they also put a "2 quantity" limit on your ordering. what does this tell you? that people try and buy a bunch at once, because they break so often. is this the kind of product you're looking for? if you like your headset looking fine but not connecting in the middle of a game bc of a slight bend in a soft/cheap connector and you love ordering replacement pieces that begin to bloat the actual cost of the headset...then this headset is for you. if however, you expect your money to go towards a well manufactured product built for its purpose...I suggest you give your money to anyone but turtlebeach.

I have been using my Grado SR225 headphones for gaming (which sound amazing) but for XBox Live I wanted a high quality headset paired with a mic for online play. I purchased the Turtle Beach X1's based on the high review score, but after using them for a week I will be returning them. The comfort and design of the product are fine, but I was very disappointed with the sound quality. The game sounds and speech are very muffled and it is difficult to understand what others are saying. The bass is overamplified, drowning out all other tones. There is also a white noise that can be heard when there are no game sounds being played, however this can be eliminated by plugging the USB cable into an AC converter rather than using your XBox. I used my iPod AC Charger and the sound was gone. In my opinion, the poor sound quality overrules any convenience that these headphones provide and are not a wise purchase. Sure, it is nice to save a few bucks over the X3 and X4's, but you get what you pay for and your money is better spent getting a higher quality product. I will be returning mine for a pair of X4's.

I am a 47 year old gamer. I mostly play Rock Band and COD MW2 or similar. I like my video and audio to match in quality to the games. I use a 46" Samsung LCD and a Pioneer receiver to run my sound through. I also wanted to be able to play at night and not disturb the rest of the house. I read the reviews and thought I would give these a try. These phones did NOT meet my expectations. I think that $60.00 is a lot for dedicated headphones. They were comfortable and I did hear things in MW2 that I had not heard in the past, but the sound they put out should be in comparison to other options. The sound to me was weak and sound a little muffled or flat. I switched to my regular Koss cheap over the ear, and they were much clearer than the TBX1's. A mic could easily been added to go with any set of phones. Bass was a little too heavy for me and I like a good strong bass tone, but this one was annoying at times. If you had no other headphones to compare these to, they may be ok, but there are other options than pure gaming headphones. I am heading back to BB to look for something else.

    Great Xbox 360 Headset

    PureSkillGaming

I have had this headset for several months, and i am still very pleased with it. Xbox 360 and PC Compatability - This headset is usable with both the Xbox 360 gaming system as well as a normal PC. Great Sound - This headset supplies great sound for the money, which is especially useful for Call of Duty and other games, where you can actually hear the footsteps of your enemy, giving you a great advantage. Do Not Disturb - One of the best uses for this headset is late-night gaming, allowing you to crank up the sound while not waking your family. Be warned though, you cannot hear yourself talk very well, so you must make sure your voice doesnt go too high. Comfort - The over-the-ear design is among the most comfortable around, and in addition to the padded headband, reduces the pressure often associated with larger headsets. All in all, this is a great gaming headset, and is good for casual and hardcore gamers alike. But, if you are a truly dedicated gamer, you may wish to opt for a more expensive surround sound headset like the Turtle Beach X4's or the Astro A40's

Fair good for xbox360 and PC

The headset is good but not best for xbox 360. The sound quality is fairly good compare to other headsets but the sound sounds like its on mono mode not stereo. The bass is very good compare to other headsets but also is too much. You will have to configure it abit on the in game sound settings. Also the good thing about this you don't have to use a computer to use the headset,I had mine going through my computer sound card output for my other headsets. Also this headset are better for pc compare to the other headset that bestbuy have for pc for this price,if configure right depending the sound card, you can have it sounds richer with very good bass for gamming. Note:! This is not a true USB headset, meaning that the sound doesn't go through USB. The USB is ONLY to POWER the headset on, so you will still need some kind a connector for the input for sound that is a standard connector of 3.5mm mini jack or if your HD tv has them then no need for an adapter. I use the xbox cable for vga adapter for my LCD and 2 female to female coupler for the headset sound.

First of all I would like to give these headphones a 5/5 for listening to music and watching movies. The bass is amazing for headphones (even compared to the $250 "bass" models). Voices are clear and sounds are distinct. The headphones are made out of plastic but are VERY strong. The cord is also nice and long and has great flexibility and good strength. The cushions on the ears and handbands are great, I have wore the headphones for hours on end. As far as gaming goes (FPS, a lot of COD4, MW2) the sound is good but not amazing. With more than 3 people around the sound of their weapons starts blurring. It is fine for detecting where the enemy is walking (inside, upstairs, on a metal beat, etc...) but hard to get more specific. The voices of your team-mates gets blurred into the background. This is simply due to these headphones being stereo. Even so these headphones are still a great buy, and well worth the money unless your looking to get VERY VERY competitive. Great headset for a good price.
