Best TB Headset I have ever used

XP Seven Review Intro: This is an unbiased review. I have used other TB headsets, Astros, and other audiophile headsets. The XP Seven is Turtle Beach’s new top tier wired headset. While much of it is the same as before, it brings some new things to the table. Is it worth it? Read below and decide for yourself PRESENTATION/ACCESORIES: These come in a very nice box. They are packaged well. They look appear to be a quality headset from the start. They come with every cable you need for hooking up to your Xbox 360, PS3, PC/MAC, and any standard mobile device like Ipad, Vita, Iphone. (this includes a specific cable that comes with the standard mp3 player controls on the cord). COMFORT: This is the most solid TB headset I have ever held. It doesn’t feel quite as well made as Astro A40’s, but its comes pretty close. The memory feels better than that is on the TB Tangos. The headset is pretty tight on my head. I have a pretty big melon though. It isn’t so tight it bothers be. I have kept it on for hours and been fine. If you have an extremely large head though, beware. When I put them around my neck (when I take them off) they pretty much strangle my neck. Again, I am a big guy though. Although at first my ears seemed a little warm, it’s fine. I am completely satisfied with the comfort so far. On that note, I think Astro A40s are a bit more comfortable. (this isn’t an A40 comparison review, just trying to give a popular benchmark) SOUND: It’s the best TB headset I have ever heard, and I have tried all the top tier ones. Everything comes through clearly. It is definitely as good as the A40s in this area, if not better. Some people have noticed the sound doesn’t seem to go very high. They are right. It doesn’t get SUPER loud. However, it does get plenty loud enough for me, which is saying something, because I like things louder than most. This setting can probably be adjusted through the Advanced Sound Editor, but I have yet to try. There may be one minor sound problem. Refer to the problems section. MIC: Works great. My friends say I sound great. The optional mic monitoring is great, (this is real mic monitoring, not a joke of a mic monitor that Astro claims to have) but if you don’t like it, you can turn it off on the fly. The presets to make your voice changer are also very fun. Very useless, but very fun. FUNCTIONALITY: This is what sold me on the headset. The ability to plug them into anything you want. As I game on multiple platforms, this what an absolute must for me, and the XP Seven delivers completely. I have used it successfully on Xbox, PS3, PC, iPhone and iPad. When using for mobile, you obviously don’t have to take the Audio Control Unit with you. FEATURES: The main seller of this headset is the Audio Control unit that comes with it. It comes with tons of presets for game volume and chat. I have mostly been using the standard ones, but having the option to tune it exactly how you want through the Advances Sound Editor is great. I have tested it, and it does work with the current Advanced Sound Editor available at the TB website. The ACU also allows you to plug in an MP3 device or phone to use while gaming. Never miss another call from your Mom or Girlfriend. Bonus! This is also the official MLG headset which is good I guess? I don’t really care about MLG, but if you are into that sort of thing, then great. This brings me to my next point…they plan on having customizable speaker plates. I plan on taking advantage of this ASAP, as I don’t care for the look of the currents ones with the MLG tag and all. PROBLEMS: The only hiccup I have noticed thus far, and this is on both Xbox 360 and PC so far, is when the sound of the game/movie/whatever gets very quiet (typically in a pause menu) the sound starts to stutter. This is associated with the Audio Control Unit, because I have tested other headphones plugged into it, and they do the same thing. Now there is probably an easy fix to this, either a firmware update or a setting in the ASE, but I haven’t found it yet. And who knows, it could just be my unit being slightly defective. All the being said, its not really a problem, as I have only noticed in pause menus and very quiet spots in movies. Its definitely not enough to make me return the headset. FINAL VERDICT: I love it so far. If you need the cross platform capability, get this or OLD AstroA40’s (the new ones are a mess, trust me, I owned them). Yes the sevens have a heft pricetag, but if your a big gamer (especially one who could utilize these elsewhere like in the car with an ipod) I would say its worth the price. UPDATES: I will update this review as needed with any new problems, any fixed problems, or any other relevant developments. Hit up the comments with any questions, and I will do my best to answer you. Enjoy the headset!

    Incredible Headset, No Regrets!

I had seen a couple of videos of people who took a look at these at CES 2013, and was very impressed. With that being said, I was a little draw back by the price. I elected to purchase the Turtle Beach Tangos for their wireless functionality and the ability to take calls via Bluetooth through the headset while I was gaming. Unfortunately, the sound on the Tangos was completely reversed (i.e. things that sounded behind me and to the right were actually in front of me and to the left). I triple checked to make sure that I was not wearing them backwards, and then elected to take them back. The Tangos were also slightly too large for my tiny head on the smallest band setting, so instead of returning them for another pair, I decided to spend a little bit more money and go with the XP Sevens, which I had considered before purchasing the Tangos. I have literally no regrets. The sound quality, first and foremost, far surpasses that of the Tangos. I have not owned any Astro or Tritton headsets, so I cannot vouch for them in comparison. The bass is deeper, mids and highs are more defined, and pinpointing sounds is never an issue. The nice element of the audio control unit is that you can control every level of sound in and out of game. If you are playing audio from your phone, the music level can be adjusted. If 10 year old kids are screaming into the mic, you can easily adjust the chat volume. Game volume works the same way, and can be easily muted. Also, you can take calls through the headset and adjust the volume of the call as such. Each of these has its own independent knob, so you don't have to spend time fiddling around with a button, cycling through modes and wasting time. It can all be done quickly and on the fly. The presets are helpful depending on what kind of game you are playing, but most will probably find solace in one preset and stick to it. The mic is removable, flexible, and has great quality. You can also adjust your own speech volume if people say you sound too loud or too quiet. The mic can also be muted in one touch on the ACU. The headset is not wireless, but I knew this before I bought it and was ready to sacrifice wireless for an amazing headset. I'm glad I did. The ACU needs to stay relatively close to you while you play, as the cables that attach on your end only have a certain length. However, Turtle Beach does include an extender cable for the other end to attach to the control box, which in turn plugs into your XBox or PS3. Another thing I would like to add is I never thought I would use these outside of gaming, but I was wrong. Turtle Beach includes a separate breakaway cable to use for listening to audio from your phone. I take mine to school with me and bump music in between classes. Another nice feature about this is there is an in-line microphone with an answer button so that you can take phone calls without needing to look like a nerd-tard, since you can leave your boom microphone at home. I was really impressed with this feature, as it shows me that Turtle Beach is paying attention to detail. Overall, the headset is sturdy, looks great, sounds incredible, has an immense amount of features, and can be utilized for any game while serving other functions outside of gaming. If you are on the fence of saving a few bucks or spending a little extra to go big, GO BIG. This is one headset where you will not regret spending the extra cash. I hope my experience serves to help others in their purchase. Also, make sure to pick up a warranty plan. If you're going to spend $200+ on a headset, make sure you protect them. Things happen that are out of our control, no matter how well you treat your things. Happy Hunting!

I’d like to begin by saying I have owned many Turtle Beach headsets X4 X41 PX21 PX5 KILO X12 PX22. All of these headsets worked perfectly. I was real excited when the XP7 ($275.87) top of the line headset was being released. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. The first one I purchased was on 1/25/13. The left side stopped working. The second 3/11/13 head set same problem; the left side stopped working. Third headset 4/5/13; no mic. Fourth headset 5/2/13 developed a squeak on both sides when it moved. The Fifth 5/17/13 headset same problem; annoying squeak. After returning and replacing 5 headset, I gave up. I replaced them with the PX22 ($79.99) and haven’t had any problems with this headset.I am very disappointed that the XP7 headset didn’t work. If one is paying $275.00 for a headset it should work perfectly. I went as far as constructing a headset stand for it. But now it’s just collecting dust.Additionally, I can’t see how these are MLG certified unless those headsets for the gamming competition are made to a different standard.

Picked up the XP Seven on Saturday and have about 8hrs playtime with them and am thoroughly impressed. I am a former Astro user having tried both the A50 wireless and 2013 version of the A40 wired. Both of those sets ended up being defective which after visiting Astros official forum surprised me with the large number of threads regarding defects with the headsets. So I bought the newly released XP Sevens which are replacing the Astro A40s as the official headset for MLG gaming tournaments. Comfort wise I give props to Turtle Beach as they have made a headset that to me actually rivals the comfort of the Astros which I loved comfort wise. They have memory foam ear cushions which are softer than the memory foam cushions founf on my Black Ops II Tango models. Sound quality is amazing with more pronounced bass than my Tangos but not enough where it muddies out the other sounds. With these I am able to detect the pinpoint location of enemies. The ACU unit is a little daunting at first but offers much more customization than the Astro mix-amp. Turtle Beach definitely has a winner in this headset model.

Hello. This is my first ever review for any product I have purchased for starters. Nothing long winded, just what matters most. This official MLG headset comes with a hefty price tag for anyone buying a gaming headset. For the price, these cans are simply not worth it. Out of the box they are exciting for sure. Great presentation, tons of customizability, very comfortable and they sound great. After 7 days of moderate use, the left ear cup simply stopped producing any sound. This is not the first instance as you will find if you take the time to look at reviews and forums. Only upon applying pressure to the cable base on the ear cup itself would sound start working again temporarily before failing all together. I took them back and exchanged for a pair of 2013 Astro A40's and other then the memory foam comfortability, they beat the XP Seven by a long shot in every single way. This is my experience, my opinion and my review. A premium professional grade headset should simply NEVER fail after 7 days. Purchase only if you won't mind the return line should you experience the same issue.

I really wanted to like this headset. I have never bought such an expensive headset before and live by the motto that you get what you pay for. In this case, I was wrong. I am an audiofile and rate the sound at a 8.5 out of 10. That unfortunately is the high point. Aside from a headset sounding good, it needs to be comfortable. In this case the XP7 fails totally. It is heavy and you can really feel the weight after awhile. However the worst thing is that it hurts my ears after wearing them for about an hour or so. That being said, I am trapped in these things due to the fact that I paid $250.00!!! Yikes. The XP7 has alot of bells and whistles but I would trade them all in for comfort. OH and I almost forgot. They make this horrible creaking sound where the cans pivot at the adjustment points. So when you move your head in a way that moves the headset or if you try to re-position them because your ears are hurting, the plastic rubs together making the horribly annoying sounds. They need to lube that up or change the design. Please avoid these.

    The Astro a40 Killer

I went on a limb when i bought these headphones. It was between these and the 2013 Astro a40. I loved my old a40 so i though i would just go with the updated version. At the last minute i decided to give the XP Seven a go. Turtle Beach blew me out of the water. They feel incredible and the best built headphone i've owned to date. The comfort is great, a40 is a little better in that department. The xp seven control unit is a thrill, it is as good if not better then my mix amp. It comes with all the cables you need and when you plug your phone in it plays all my songs amazing, It crushes my a40 in all departments except comfort. I would highly recommend everyone to get these, give them a go, and if you dont like them return them in 30 days, but i can almost promise this will be your favorite headset to date.

1st headset the audio would stop working at least 1 or 2 times a day. I had to power cycle the headset to fix this. on the 30th day the the left ear cup started to squeak when moved, within an hour the left ear cup and mic stopped working. 2nd headset develop squeaking on both sides. Quite annoying, on the 32nd day the cable from the headset failed causing audio to stop. if I wiggled the cable the audio would pop back in, but only if I held the cable. 3rd headset.. out of the box the mic doesn't say in place. The mic keeps drooping. AND like the first headset, the audio keeps failing, and I then have to cycle the power 1-5 times a day!

Well first of all I'd like to say that I strongly disagree with xViralityx from Michigan's review! I'm absolutely positive had he exchanged these for another set He'd of realized how amazing these things are.. I purchased 2 myself.. & they both work flawlessly! I have & tried the best from Turtle Beach and Astro Gaming and let me clarify.. as of this writing these are the best you can get . I can hear sounds & audio cues I never did before until these! Don't get me wrong I love Astro.. But for me.. Turtle Beach has absolutely nailed what matters most with the Turtle Beach Ear Force XP SEVEN.. "Sound Quality"!

I received 2 (two) Turtle Beach XP Seven headsets as well as my brother in law. Every headset (4 in total) has worked as should be right out of the box. My previous headset were the Sony wireless headsets and the Titton Ax pro. The Ax Pro were simply amazing but it does not come with a mix amp as the XP Seven do. With the XP Seven headset, you can connect your phone or an mp3 player while you play your game. You have quite a few different pre-sets that you can customize to your liking. You want to change the sound volume on the rear surround speakers within the headset? You can do that. These headsets are just simply amazing and I use them everyday on my ps3, xb1, pc, and simply on my phone to listen to music.

I'm a pro-gamer for CoD on xbox (Brazen Gaming) I use to have Astro A40's, but when I got these... it was over. Turtle beach has grabbed my attention with this headset. I was a big fan of astro but now I'm kind of TB all the way. You can use the presets for many uses, for all games. Call of duty you can hear EVERYTHING. Battlefield 3 EVERYTHING. Skyrim sounds beautiful with them, Gears sounds beastly, and Crysis 3 sounds really good. Overall I'd give this headset an 11/10 and yes i said 11, they get the extra point for stepping everything up. PICK THIS HEADSET UP!

After spending countless days of frustrating research I finally found the headset that fits my needs. Was looking for a quality X-BOX gaming headset that had good bass as well as mids and highs. Being used to a fairly high end home theater system my expectations were set high. There is a reason why this headset was chosen as the official MLG gear. This was the first gaming headset I tried that when you boost the low end it does not kill the upper end. You can also do the opposite or both. As far as loudness after properly dialing it in setting all speaker levels as well as console settings, man it can get loud without a hint of distortion.

I have had my dpx21 for over a year know and i decided i needed an upgrade so i saw these and i was like hot dang! i need these! But just because it looks good doesn't mean it is, my first pair broke 1 week after i got them, loose wires in the left ear piece so i wen and returned them for a second pair and they were working fine for about a month and again the left ear cuff wires are loose so the sound comes in and out. Now i'm stuck with $300 broken headphones my dpx21 never had this problem and still work like a charm, i honestly wouldn't recommend these they are faulty and brake easily, go for the px5 or for the astro a40 better quality for the price you pay.

I got my first pair the week they came out. Immediately out of the box the mic cable was jacked. My son said it echoed and crackled the whole time. Returned the very next day for new pair. Great for the past 6 weeks! The sound quality is perfect no matter how loud you turn it up. You can adjust it every way possible but..... Now the left ear cuts in and out. Buy the protection plan. They are worth the money by far when they work. I will continue to exchange them until they fix the problem or upgrade the model that is how much I like the quality of sound. Are you willing to go through the same thing for the best sounding headset?

I'm a huge fan of FPS Shooter's so I'm always interested in having the best gaming headset available.. I've tried.. & have headsets from both Astro and Turtle Beach.. Congratulations Turtle Beach.. You've absolutely nailed it w/ the XP SEVEN :) The sound quality & comfort are premium. If I have to be picky & pick something about them that bothered me.. They're a little tight at first & can be uncomfortable after a few hours.. But when they break in.. & don't worry they will.. They are amazing!

Had this for 3 days, sounds great, I love the controller with options. These have been handled properly and cared for since they are $279 dollars I did not want to mess them up. After 3 days sound on left ear starts cutting in and out when and if you wiggle the wire it will cut in and out. I will be returning these for the Astro A40. I do not recommend these until they fix the problem.

Its a great headset. Came with a bad breakaway cable, but a few emails to customer service and it got handled. It needs an entire USB hub to use all of its functions, so make sure your system can handle it ( mine barely can at the moment) Once i got it all set up and the new cable its amazing the difference it made in the sound of my games. If you need a good, gaming class headset you won't be disappointed.
