    XP510 Issues

I thought I'd replace my X41s as I had some extra reward zone points to burn. I first tried the Astro 50s, and they were horrendous. I took them back for the XP510s, and they were even worse. I then started to do some research. I found online where several people were commenting about the mic issues of the XP510s. To put it bluntly, the bluetooth (BT) is absolutely worthless in my environment. Everyone said it sounded muffled and as if I was a long way away from the mic. I promptly returned them for another pair, as I deducted from my sampling of forum comments that there was a high failure rate on the microphone (i.e., others can't hear you; you can't hear them; the mic needs reseated, etc.). The second pair was better - I could finally speak and others could hear me. However, now I couldn't hardly hear anyone else. I tried multiple avenues to resolve this – making all the fine tunes with the Chad Mode, Game Mode, etc. – nothing worked. I even tried replacing the BT connection on my controller with the talk back cable from my old X4s and X41s. That improved the way my voice was heard on the other end, but it did not improve what I could hear. Frustrated, I returned these as well. Then one of the guys in the store suggested that I try the XP51s – those that are “designed” for the PS3 but are compatible with the 360. I had hesitations at first, but eventually I gave in. You know what? The XP51s are actually a pretty solid headset. The way they’re compatible with the 360 is by using the INCLUDED talk back cable. Since that worked just fine, I’m assuming there was a small conflict with the old talk back cables. Others could hear me, and I could hear them. I get it – the 51 and 510 models are essentially the same thing – it’s just that the 51s come with the talk back cable whereas the 510s come with the BT adapter. In the end, TB should’ve included a talk back cable with the 510s. Since the headphones were practically free (reward zone points), my only loss was opportunity costs. That being said, I’m fairly pleased with the XP51s now – but not the XP510s. The bells and whistles – this thing is loaded. It was gimmicky at best, though, and I found after 10 minutes of playing with the settings that I couldn’t care less about any of them other than what I selected to use. That being said, I opted for option 3 on Game Mode and 3 on Chat Mode. One could argue that since it gave me so many options to choose from, the bells and whistles were actually a good thing (as it allowed me to personalize my settings). I did attempt to download and mess with the audio tuner. What a mess. It’s not user friendly at all, and the Basic mode is worthless. I love Turtle Beach, but I do not like these headphones. I wouldn’t recommend them for the price, and it was a tough pill to swallow for me even though they were “free.”

I also own the xp500's so I use them to compare with the current model. Both the xp500's and the xp510's have excellent sound but the difference is the xp510's have dual bandwidth capability making for a flawless performance. I live in an apartment complex so there is a lot of interference on the 2.4 GHz frequency making for a lot of cut-outs and popping issues. The xp510's resolved this issue with virtually no audio cut-outs. If you have never used a gaming headset before, you won't believe how much you miss out on while playing. You hear people trying to sneak up on you and when they are generally near you. I play BF4 with friends who don't have headsets and I can tell where gunfire is coming from and when and what type of vehicles are approaching long before they can. I have killed plenty of people (in-game) because I knew they were about to walk around a corner or were trying to knife me from behind. These sets are also great for the full audio experience while watching movies. In both gaming and movie watching, you can set the audio volume where you want it and not bother neighbors or anyone around you. The battery life on the xp510's is great also. Having a built in rechargeable battery is a huge plus. Scrabbling for batteries in the middle of a multi-player match because your headset ran out of juice is a huge pain. The only thing worse is your controller running out of juice. The xp510's have a better noise cancelling affect that will throw you off if you are not used to it. You can get good side-tone (being able to hear yourself talk) by playing with the chat pre-selects. If you aren't familiar with the effects of side-tone, you will when you get these sets. The comfort level is great as you don't feel any extra weight of wearing them and the ear cups are soft and comfortable. The build quality is solid, also. Cost is always an issue but if you have the disposable income and enjoy gaming and/or movies, get this set. You won't be disappointed. My only complaint are the audible indicators and warnings. Currently, they transfer through the mic and I don't know why they do this or how to change this, if possible. The battery low indicator is also a pain as it repeats every 5 seconds until you plug them in. The recharge cable is plenty long so at least you can sit a good distance from the recharge point while using them plugged in.

First of all this is my first "turtle beach" headset. Pros Very comfortable. No problems at all. Sound- I like the sound quality. I play "COD black ops 2". I could hear everything. Settings-When playing BO2, you have certain settings. From bass boost to footsteps. Blu tooth- I play on the PS3 and these were easy to set up. Easy to set up for the iphone as well. Music- I used the plug in for my iphone just to see how these sounded. The music sounded great. Plus there's a music options in the sound settings. Movies-I've only watched TDKR with these and it sounded great. Warranty- These have a 1 year warranty as I believe all their products do Cons Set up- Like I said, this is my first set of TB. I guess you can set up through your computer. As of right now they don't have a sound board for these. You have to download the settings for the BO2 headset. Movies- My first night with these the sound was really low. I plugged back in the computer the next day and downloaded the settings again. Watched most of the same movie "TDKR" and the sound worked and sounded great. Instructions- There wasn't really any instructions with these. Would be nice to know what everything on this headset does. Price-These are pretty spendy. 289.00. Technical support- It seems that Turtle Beach is a big enough franchise to have "technical support" 24/7. Or at least a phone call to walk me through the steps if needed. Overall I love this headset. Last headset I had was the "sony pulse wireless elite edition". Those don't even compare to these bad boys. Plus sony doesn't have a warranty with their product.

love the headset. i had the earforce delta headset and i got used to it. this headset blocks more sound so it has a dampening effect compared to the earforce delta. but once you get used to the noise canceling capability its clear sound and lightweight design is great. i notice with the new microsoft stereo adapter for the xbox one controller makes the chat a bit distorted when other players hear you. simply pull the mic away from your mouth. it is not the headset it is the microsoft stereo adapter doing this.hopefully there will be an update for this. also for the advance sound editor to work you must first umplug your chat cable from the headset then the program will work properly.this headset is great of you want to block out the wife when she complains.also makes the house nice and quiet instead of using your loud surround sound. i will contunue to use turtlebeach until their quality changes.ive never tried astro. and dont get the xo4 or xo7 because those xbox one headsets do not have surround sound.

Turtle Beach has always been my choice for headsets. That will stop today. This purchase was one in which I was trapped into by Turtle Beach. When I purchased the headset back in August. I had huge concerns about the compatibility with the Xbox One. When I spoke with TB customer support they insured me that I would not need to return the headset as they will provide a solution to everyone that is anticipating the Xbox One. After being told this I decided to keep the headset as they would make sure I could use it with the new system. Nov 22 rolled around and the Xbox one was released. I submitted all the paperwork requested to receive the adapter they had created. On Jan 28, 2014 I received an email saying I was not eligible because I purchased the headset before Nov 22 (The release of the Xbone). This was unacceptable! Now they want me to fork out a ton of money just to use this headset with my Xbone! How can they say it was for those anticipating the Xbone when they don't even honor anyones claim that purchased it before the release of the Xbone? If you want a Turtle Beach, just remember they do not keep their word and they WILL trap you into your purchase.

I had an older, less expensive Turtle Beach headset that I had used for nearly two years. I LOVED them. They were crisp, loud and super easy to use while in play to mute irritating gamers or turn up chat for friends, while turning down game volume...or visa versa. However, exactly one month before my extended warranty (thank god) expired, the headset broke from normal wear and tear. I purchased this set over the others because I had loved my last pair so much. I was disappointed when I set it up and started using them. The sound was not as loud. (Some may like it that way to save hearing, but I wanted to hear better). The ABSOLUTE WORST THING and the reason I plan to return them today after trying them the last few weeks and hoping for better results...THE STATIC. If I am not hearing popping, interference and static, then my friends complain on the other end that they hear it. For nearly $300 after warranty, it is just simply too much for me to put up with. I hope to go to Astro's or another brand hoping to rid myself of this issue. Again, I LOVE Turtle Beach for its ease and comfortability...they just fell WAY short on this product.

I purchased these headphones after returning my skullcandy plyr1. These are definitely a step up. Crisp sounds, and different presets make the gaming experience fun. There is never interference from other wireless devices thanks to the dual band. The problem with my plry1 was that it was only 2.4ghz so they interfered with the xbox wireless remotes. The voice morphing for chat is fun to play with and you can create you own morphs or download other ones from the turtle beach website. Being able to also connect my phone through Bluetooth makes it nice because I can answer the phone while playing my game. They are super comfortable even after a long gaming session and the battery lasts a long time. They are a bit pricey, but I got them for a great price at $179.99 through a price match. I highly suggest buying the best buy warranty though because if the do break, best buy will replace them and if they aren't available anymore, you will get the latest pair.

    Poor sound, poor performance

These headphones are not worth the price. The surround sound affect is decent, but not perfect. For gaming I do like the surround sound effect. First off, the sound quality is poor on these headphones. You can hear sound quality loss from the wireless reciever, but mainly the drivers do not sound nearly as good as I would expect from such an expensive headset(poor bass). I play a lot of Gran Turismo, and when the engine noises get high pitched, the wireless audio will cut in an out. If my Iphone is transferring info to my computer via Bluetooth, it interferes with my game audio. And finally the headphones are randomly putting out loud static for a brief moment every few minutes. The static is the last call, time for a better headset. Also, it doesn't warn you of a low battery until about 1 minute before it shuts off. If the battey is not fully charged, I risk losing audio in the middle of a race, which is very annoying since it ruins your pace.

I bought these as an upgrade to a cheap 70.00 wired headset that was damaged because I keep running over the cord. I use these on my pc and not the PS3 which do work as long as you have an optical output for your audio. Sounds are sharp, audio adjustments when tuned are amazing for surround sound and being wireless. I can easily hear footsteps in BF4 and directional shooting and vehicle movements which have really increased my game. Now for the bad parts... the wireless signal is very poor in my opinion. Wireless range from a dedicated receiver unit is maybe the next room, barely beyond that. Headset will only work with bluetooth which has an even shorter range (can barely leave the room without it going static). Also the mic is very hard to hear even with highest settings on PC. for nearly 300.00, I really expected more out of this set.

I've owned every brand of headset and after my A40's bit the dust, I decided to go back to Turtle Beach. Since this was comparable to what I was used to and it was in stock, I purchased the 510's. They are the most comfortable headset I've ever owned but they prove to be useless because of the horrible cracking / popping I encounter. The only time the static is gone is if I'm nearly touching my head with the controller. I talked with Turtle Beach customer service and I'm going to try to swap these out. I wish my local store had a better selection of Turtle Beach headsets so I could try a different model.

    XP500 VS XP510

Hello I had an XP500 before the XP510. All I have to say is that XP500 is way better even when you have to buy the batteries and replace them " You can always fix that by getting rechargeable batteries". The XP510 is just an upgraded version of XP400 with a few more features but if you want great performance, stick with the XP500 since it's a 7.1 surround sound. 7.1 give you a better experience on any game. It's a shame that Turtle Beach came with this product and decided to name it XP510 when it should be XP410 instead. I personally end up buying again the XP500.

This headset is great. The bluetooth connector for the Xbox is VERY easy to use and requires no batteries as it is powered off of your controller. The headset itself has good battery life and if / when it goes dead you simply connect the power cable and keep on using the headset. This is a completely true wireless set up and that's exactly why I purchased it. The sound quality is great though I wish there was slightly more bass but everything does sound clear and very crisp. I have a 5.1 polk audio set up in my living room and this headset has allowed me to hear small sounds that I had never heard before. Well worth the money in my opinon.

This is a near perfect product, except from the life of the batteries. I used it with expensive batteries (duracell) and the headset lasted for about 3 days with 3 hours a day of play on xbox. I then tried cheap batteries and it ran out on the first day. You need rechargeable batteries that you can charge every other day or so. other than that, the product is great, the sound is awesome (has several preset sounds in the headset already), you can hear so much details, that you don't hear when you listen to your game on the TV's audio (for example: footsteps). I've had the headset for 1 year and a half and it's still in perfect condition.

Great headset - I upgraded from the Playstation pulse elite headset because I got the sync problem and I blew the bass out of them. There are a fantastic alternative. I used to own X41's for my 360 and wanted to go back to turtle beach ever since I switched to the playstation. I couldn't be happier with this headset. It's super comfortable - the bluetooth works great with my phone so I can answer calls mid-game - it's got a long cord to charge it so i can keep playing even when it's dying and it has a long batter life. Definitely would recommend. Just try and catch it on sale like I did :-)

I used to own the XP300 which was a very nice headset but wanted something a little better so I purchased this XP510 and I love it. The sound is excellent, battery life and very long like 16 hours and it's very easy to set up and use. It has many different features that my other one didn't. I would recommend this headset to any gamer looking for a better experience when playing. If you play first person shooting games such as black ops this headset really increases the sound to where you can hear footsteps from across the map. Highly recommend for the serious gamer. Enjoy!

they work great on my xbox 360 and my PlayStation 4. I wish there was a way to use it on the ps4 without a cable I get the differences in Bluetooth. what I don't like is the amount of effort it took to set these up using the audio program. I had to change the voice for this because the female voice is awful. But the program itself is an over complicated mess. But is worth it. After over an hour sitting with my lap top plugged in and gaming at the same time. I have my perfect sound.

One of the best things is streaming music from iPhone via bluetooth, while playing and listening to game sound, and being able to answer a phone call that instantly mutes both… all at the same time. Headphones work great for sound whoring, and absolutely immersing yourself into games. They are ultra pricey, but worth the spend if you have the money to waste.

Cheaply made product. Doesn't feel like a $300 headset, feels like something you'd pick up at the dollar store. Buzzing sound in earcups. Very low volume, even up all the way. About the only good thing about these is how lightweight they are. If you're going to spend this much get a pair is Astro A40's, A50's, or PC360's.

Also ypur ears will never be cold wearing these. The dual bluetooth is awesome as well. I definately recommend them to anyone looking for a gaming headset.

I had the astro a40 and those are the best hands down, and worth your money. This headset was a big downgrade. The cost for this product is a joke, they feel cheap and takes forever to sync with transmitter. There are headsets with 7.1 surround sound $100 cheaper than this headset.
