Very easy to set up! Lights dancing with the music.

Warning: the Twinkly Music Dongle does not work with the music effects in the Twinkly Gallery. After you install the Music Dongle you’ll find that none of the Effects with the Musical Notes symbol in the Gallery (e.g. picture of "Twister" actually use the dongle at all. Instead, the dongle has its own set of effects that it syncs the audio to (e.g. picture of VU meter) Incredibly Twinkly’s design seems to be that the Musical Effects in the Gallery only use your smartphone mic and only in “preview”, and the Music Dongle only uses its own set of effects which you can’t customize, edit, or preview. You can’t load any kind of effect playlist that uses audio sync into the Carousel feature, so if you wanted to automatically rotate through various effects using the Carousel for a party you can’t do this with any kind of audio sync capability because the smart phone mic only works in preview mode, not Carousel mode, and the Music Dongle doesn’t work with any of the effects in the Carousel either. I reached out to Twinkly technical support to try to understand what my configuration mistake was, but alas they informed me that this was the actual system design, and that this obvious usage model isn’t supported. Thus the dongle is of very limited utility, you’ll be limited to one effect per party, or you’ll forever be forced to access your smart phone repeatedly to switch patterns which is sure to get annoying almost immediately.

This took many hours of setup spanning two days. Twinkly’s tech support is poor. We eventually got it working with both iOS and Android operating systems. However, Twinkly Music will ONLY work with Generation II devices. This is a shame since Generation I are great lights too. For Generation II devices, Twinkly Music does respond quickly and the music will dance nicely to the music that is playing.

Got this to control my Halloween lights, I now have 6 sets totaling +1500 bulbs. I reprogram them for every holiday, also use used this music stick with creepy Halloween music. You can set them up individually or in a big group (which I did) allowing all of them to work in together. They are easy to program with a library of great special effects. An the lights are nice and bright, well made. The dance to the music option makes them even cooler

Great product that was easy to setup and use. Purchased to tie the Christmas tree to the Amazon Echo and have a wonderful light display. My grandkids loved it and had hours of entertainment. Very durable and compact, easily can place in any area without being noticed and still pick up the sound.

Really fun addition to the twinkly lights. 5 stars if it came with its own way to plug into a wall hidden.

While you can sync music to the lights via the Twinkly app, I got the music dongle so that I would not have to leave the app open. The dongle is basically a microphone that you have to power with a USB plug and place near your speakers. You can even sing into the dongle to have the lights respond to your voice.

Easy to update the firmware, setup and connect with your lights. The mic is very sensitive so make sure your music is close to the device or else conversations will register with it.

Latest 2.0 update improved this device greatly. However, I wish there was a way to have a mix of effects and music in some way. Hoping Twinkly has next set of updates to make it stellar

It took a while to set up the unit but was fun to play with once it was operational. I did however need to go through the process of updating the firmware so it registered with my 1st generation Twinkly Tree.

Works perfectly after very easy set up. The light shows on the tree are amazing.

Not a must for Twinkly lights. But I have so many of the light sets i wanted to see how this works with them. It does what its suppose to do and when the lights are blinking to the music its a good feature. Would be nice to have a type of equalizer theme where the lights can bounce up a with the music. But still i would buy this again, as said not a must but its fun to use.

There is nothing wrong with the quality of this item and it helps to make using the lights fun. But if you expect too much from it, you’ll be disappointed. It’s simple and easy to use.

Great add on to the Twinkly system. We got this as we have LED's all around and will have people over and set all the lights to dance to the beat so it was cool to have our tree do it to. Very easy to use from the app.

Nice product but the configuration is really complicate and the sync with the light was a little off

Great little device. At the beginning I had a little trouble getting it connected to my Twinkly App, but after a couple tries I was able to add and it has been working perfectly with my Christmas tree.
