UAG - Metropolis Apple iPad Tablet Keyboard Folio for iPad 10.2" 8th Gen. with Trackpad and Bumper Case - Black I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised with the UAG Folio for iPad Gens 7, 8 & 9. It comes in two parts: first the rugged case that the iPad fits into easily and securely protecting the back and sides when using your iPad as a tablet. The case is well made with openings precisely located for all the ports, speakers etc. It also has an Apple Pencil holder along the right side (if you're holding the case in portrait mode). Of course, if the case is attached to the folio keyboard, then the Apple Pencil holder is at the top. The case is rated for up to 8' drop protection. The edges of the case standout above your iPad screen, so even dropping it directly screen-side on a flat surface should protect the screen. The central part of the back of the case is made of a see-through material so the color of your iPad is seen. The folio keyboard has some heft to it since it houses an internal battery beneath the keys plus it's made of rugged material. The keyboard is spill resistant. It has chiclet style keys that are large enough and spaced enough for male-sized hands to type easily. It offers backlit keys with 3 levels of brightness and 7 colors. Back-lighting turns off after 40 seconds of non-use but lights up again when you touch a key. The keyboard itself will go into sleep mode if not used for several minutes but awakens if you press any key. It charges, by the way, through a USB-C port on the right side of the keyboard (takes about 1.5 hours from 0% to 100%). There's no charger provided, but it does come with a charging cable having a USB-C plug on one end and a USB-A plug on the other so you can plug the USB-A end into a charger of your own or into the USB-A port on a computer device to charge the folio keyboard. The iPad case attaches to the folio keyboard with strong magnets -- I found this arrangement to hold the case firmly whenever I moved the keyboard around with no problem. It offers 4 viewing angles as well. The folio keyboard works through BT and will pair with up to 2 devices. When I paired it with my iPad, it worked flawlessly, and I had no latency when typing. The keyboard offers a lot of key control for various functions of your iPad -- you can switch between paired devices, display the iPad's home screen, waken/put to sleep your iPad, activate Siri, hide/show onscreen keyboard, multi-media keys, mute sound, volume up/down plus the power button and checking your battery status. The one item I wasn't impressed with was the large track-pad -- it's just OK (size is good!). I've been spoiled by higher end laptops with glass-smooth, fast track-pads. This one gets the job done, though, so there you go. When you're done with the keyboard, it folds up to cover your iPad's screen and a magnetic flap from the folio portion comes over the top and holds the folio together with a strong magnet. This allows you to carry the whole thing with your iPad protected inside like a book while the folio stays securely fastened even when thrown around or sliding around in a backpack or briefcase. All in all, I really like the UAG Keyboard folio - it protects your iPad in separate tablet use yet provides a nice keyboard with good viewing angles when in "laptop" mode, then provides a nice protected package for both iPad and keyboard when traveling or just carrying it around.

Right after opening it I was sure it could protect my 13-year-old daughter’s iPad. She didn’t have one for over two years because she broke hers four months after she got it. My fault to give her an iPad before she was even a teen. This case had to do the job and it has done very well and I believe it will not disappoint even with a rough teenager handling it. It is rugged and sturdy The keyboard, which has backlight LED with 7 color options, feel and work nice, along with the trackpad. That’s her opinion too. I use a bigger iPad to draw using Procreate and Adobe and I don’t use my keyboard that much, but she will be using this more often than I would. It seems the charge will last a long time, but I won’t be able to confirm just how long before using she uses it for a couple of weeks. I’m expecting each charge to last at least a few days if not weeks, but the backlighting may shorten the battery charge, depending on how often it is used. Because she is a natural artist and can draw very well, she also has an Apple Pencil. In my opinion, every portfolio should have a place to store it securely like this UAG Metropolis case does. I wish it was out of sight when the portfolio was open, hiding it inside a slot on the keyboard, but it would probably make the case bulkier. I’m fine with the way they did it. It does lock it securely and that’s what matters to me, especially because even I broke my first Pencil when it fell off the iPad magnet. This folio protects the iPad but I’m not so sure it can protect itself from a major fall. I wont test that on purpose, but it does feel a bit vulnerable. But protecting the iPad is more important than the keyboard part. And maybe the keyboard is well protected as well, so I’m not going to judge it based just on what it feels like. Besides, it doesn’t feel or look particularly bulky. Another note from my daughter is that she loves that it can be used as a stand while she’s watching videos. The only major complaint is that it needs a very flat surface to work. Not a big deal for her, but it could be for some people. That’s why I didn’t rate it five stars.

This is a nice case for your Ipad if you need to use a keyboard. It makes the Ipad more user friendly for school/work. Setup: The setup was easy. I put my Ipad in the main rubber case. It was simple and seems to provide good protection for just carrying the tablet. Then I had to turn on the keyboard and hold down the 1 key to turn on pairing mode. Then under settings in the Ipad I was able to connect to the keyboard. The real pairing was typing a code provided on the Ipad with the keyboard. Then I was able to use everything. Use: I liked how the case attaches to the keyboard cover via magnets. It made the process of using the Ipad for media content around the house then accessing the keyboard smooth. I did find the flap kind of annoying when connecting the tablet back to the cover. Also, when folded close it is pretty thick and heavy. The included keyboard/trackpad are very well made and the keys light in the dark which is very helpful. The travel is decent for what you’re getting, and the trackpad is very smooth. I just find it not a heavily used feature since it is much easier to touch the screen. I do wish there were more shortcut keys closer to the trackpad vs in the top row of the keyboard. The battery life lasted 2 full days before requiring a charge which is very decent. They did include a USB charging cable which is now the standard. Pros: Keyboard is top quality Separate case is durable and low profile Keyboard is backlit Anti-Microbial materials easy to clean Cons: Can be thick and heavy Flap can get in way when connecting ipad to cover Keyboard requires charging vs charging from Ipad directly

Comfortable keyboard and good protection for iPad

We know how delicate mobile devices and especially iPads can be, considering the cost of a repair, looking for a good case is important nowadays. The case comes in its box along with its USB-c charger cable and a quick guide on how to connect the keyboard case to our iPad, which by the way is so easy and there is not need for app or accounts. The case consists of two parts which I think is great because if you just want to use the tablet without the keyboard and still have it protected, it is possible. The keyboard is very easy to use and very comfortable, it is possible to connect up to two devices and has two buttons to switch between them, at the top has a space for apple pencil in case you have one, it holds it very well avoiding falls. The keyboard has a backlit and you can choose between 7 different colors and 3 levels of brightness, the trackpad is very good and with very useful functions, I could say that it works like a real laptop trackpad. The case protects the tablet very well, however it is important to mention that precisely because it completely protects the iPad, it is a bit heavy and bulky. The case-keyboard looks great, is very well designed and fulfills its mission which is to protect my iPad and at the same time have the ease of typing on a very comfortable keyboard with a battery that lasts a long time with only one charge, definitely recommended.

Not sturdy. Cannot sit in lap. Have to set it on a solid surface to stand. Heavy and durable if thats what youre looking for. Other than that genuinely overrated. Touchpad is a bit stick. Keyboard is fine and can change colors but is not like an rgb gaming keyboard.
