The speaker has really good sound quality. my biggest gripe with it is that there is not a physical play/pause button.

I have been in love with UE's sound for 2 years. I'm one of thise people who take forever to buy new tech for myself. This defintely did not disappoint. Only one slight issue the bluetooth button is sometimes hard to navigate but I'm already paired, only irritates guests!

This is the best bluetooth speaker I've ever owned. I've 3 of them, in different styles. Aside from being REAL waterproof, making them perfect for a beach or pool day, the battery lasts for a full day, and you can link up to 150 of them together for an amazing multi-speaker setup!!!! You can also link them with Megabooms, and original Boom/Boom 1 speakers. If I had to make one complaint, it lacks buttons to change tracks and play/pause. Instead, it relies on gesture control, which is less than perfect. I can't recommend this enough.

I should start out by saying that the UE2 has the best sound by far when it comes to its competitors. Very crisp high tones and enough bass to round out an overall great sound. Yet, I ended up returning mine, why? lack of button functionality. The tap feature to pause and advance tracks is real spotty (yes, I know you have to hold the speaker for it to work). The mic feature is cumbersome as well when calls would come in during music tracks. I opted for a Bose which I will admit does not sound as well, but has all of the right push buttons that work with ease.

    Tap Controls Are Awful

The speaker sounds great. I would give it the slight advantage over my Altec Lansing Mini Life Jacket 3 as far as the quality of sound goes. The speaker looks great. The black and red colors go very well together. It's waterproof, which is a huge plus because you can use it to listen to music while in the shower. There are a lot of things to love about the speaker. So, you may be wondering why I am only giving it 3 stars and not 5. The reason is the same reason why I ultimately decided to return the speaker for a refund. The reason is the tap controls. In order to stop a song from playing or skip to the next song, you have to tap the top of the speaker (once for stop, twice for skip). There are no actual buttons for these functions. Now, this doesn't seem like a big deal, until you actually attempt to do it. It's a complete mess. Half of the time, it reads 2 taps (skip) as 1 tap (stop) and your music just stops playing instead of going to the next song. I need to mention that the button that turns the speaker off is also on the top of the speaker. So, half of the time when you tap the speaker once to stop a song from playing, it turns the speaker off entirely because it thinks you are hitting the power button. Not to mention the fact that in order to get the tap controls to work at all, you don't just have to lightly tap the speaker, you have to hit it, hard. If you tap it gently the way that they show in the UE commercials, half of the time nothing happens at all. It's frustrating beyond belief, especially for someone like me who likes to change songs frequently. Another frustrating thing about the speaker is that there is absolutely no way to skip backward to the previous song. You can skip forward to the next song, but you cannot skip backward to the previous song. Or replay a song. This is extremely annoying and frustrating for me, especially coming from using the Altec Lansing Mini Life Jacket 3, which can do all of these things with ease. Having used that speaker, I know that it's very possible to just put skip forward, skip backward, play, pause, and on/off functionality and still only have 3 buttons on the speaker. That speaker has all of these features and only has 3 buttons (the same amount of buttons that the UE Boom 2 has), so I am baffled as to why UE didn't put the same functionality in their buttons. Overall, it's a good speaker as far as sound quality and aesthetics go, but it doesn't measure up to other speakers as far as controls go. Unfortunately, that area impacts the listening experience a lot and is a deal breaker for me. Overall, I cannot recommend this speaker.
