I have always loved the UE BOOM series. First, bomb name. Next, I really loved the 360 degree sound. With the Boom 3, they really have outdone themselves. I really like the box it came in. The unboxing experience nowadays is just as part of the whole package as the product itself. The Boom doesn't disappoint. It's a pretty compact little package. You take off 2 stickers and the cover slides off. You open the box and the speaker sits there. It's gorgeous. I loved the cylindrical look of the Boom 2. The 3 is just a complete cylinder. It has a modern look to it and really looks nice anywhere you place it. It has the trademark + and -. Pairing is really easy. It recommends that you download their app when you first pair. I would recommend the app! It's really well made and user friendly which is not something that I can say with all the other speaker apps. You can control the equalizer settings. Best of all, you can turn on/off and control the volume of the speaker with the app! You can also get firmware updates and the usual. Really like the app. The charging cable is micro-USB. It's a fairly long white cable. Looks nice. There is no power block so you'll have to find some old phone power brick you're not using or something. The speakers are also waterproof and float! If you want to be that guy at the pool, be my guest. This speaker lets you do that! The sound quality is great! Still has the 360 degrees of sound. The volume is loud enough to fill a room. Really lives up to the BOOM name. You can fiddle with the equalizer settings to really match your tastes. I do think that the vocal clarity is a little lacking but it doesn't take away from the whole experience. It has a great battery life! They advertise 15. I would say I definitely got around that much. I think these speakers are awesome and well worth it! Considering that they're cheaper than even the Boom 2 right now, I would say this a great buy and absolutely worth it. All in all, I would definitely recommend this.

Open the smartly designed box and you find one approximately 3" x 7" cylinder speaker, a flat white 4' micro-USB cable, and a quick start guide. There is no AC USB Adapter. The battery in the unit was dead, but it only took about 2.5 hours to fully charge with a 3 AMP USB charger. Lower amp chargers (.5 -2 AMP) will need more time. Hold both the + and - volume buttons together a few seconds and the unit will verbally tell the percentage of power remaining. Or check it in the app. It automatically shuts off after 15 minutes of no activity. A quick press of the power button turns it on as does a long press of the Magic Button. Holding the Bluetooth button puts it into Pair mode. Look for BOOM 3 in your Bluetooth devices to pair. Easy enough, no surprises here. I checked and found a Firmware update in the App. Click the update button and a minute later you're ready to go. Easy. The unit starts and powers off with a swish and a tribal drum roll sound effect. This can be turned off in the app. On the top there are two small buttons off center. A Power button with LED, so you know it's on. And the Bluetooth button, whose LED goes out once you're connected. My first use was a continuous 16 hours and 8 minutes of streaming Pandora Plus from my iPhone which I left in the house while working outside in the yard. Over an hour better than the 15 hours listed. Bluetooth was solid with up to 80' and a wall between the BOOM 3 and my phone. The sound coming out of such a small package is very rich and clean at all volume levels. It's as if it has some magic reserve that exceeds its physical size. It can play LOUDLY, advertised up to 90db, yet clearly. It does not sound strained or flatten out like others; there is still a good range to be had even when maxed out. With a decent bit rate on your source, it will sound awesome. In the center is the 'Magic Button'. which will pause and play the song with a single click. A double press will skip to the next track. A long press will skip playlists, but only in Apple Music and Deezer Premium. Hopefully more apps will be added in the future. Please? The Magic Button worked well with Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, and Google Play. The Amazon Music app however, it would not resume play after a pause. I had to go back to the app. It would skip to the next song in the playlist but would not play. Maybe next update. The Magic button is a welcome feature. No need to mess with the source and this speaker is waterproof and it floats! Great for a pool party. Keep the phone inside safe and dry. Dustproof? Oh yeah! I used this while doing yard work and kicked up LOTS of dust. It looked bad! When I power washed my house later, I gave it a few quick and lights blasts. Clean as new as new and it never missed a beat. The BOOM 3 allows up to 4 devices to pair. You can alternate who plays DJ with this and not need to re-pair after someone else. Very nice! The free app for iOS is good but it could be great with just a bit of attention. It has a 5 band EQ to get the sound just right for your music and setting. There are some presets; Standard (flat), Cramped Spaces, Voices, Bass Jump, and Custom. The range of adjustment is +/- 15. The bass is already prevalent and cannot be bumped up before the sound is mired in bass. You can only change the Custom profile. If you try to change one of the other presets, those settings overwrite your custom setting with no warning. Unfortunately, you cannot save EQ settings beyond the one custom. Hopefully this comes in an update. The EQ setting for different spaces; outside, my garage, living room and shower are very different as they are for different type of music. Using the app, you can power it on/off, set the volume, set the language (English, French, Spanish, and German), find the serial number for registration. The PartyUp setting allow you to connect to 150 BOOM speakers to play together, even older Boom and MEGABOOM models can be added. Music throughout the home or yard for any occasion. You can control whether others can connect to your BOOM 3 or not in the app. The default is to allow inclusion. It's strictly Bluetooth for music input. There is no mini-DIN aux port as some others have. Maybe because its waterproof? There is a waterproof mini-USB port covered by a rubber plug to keep out dust. The power plug is on the back near the bottom, so you can leave it discreetly plugged in most the time if you'd like, even while using it. There is a very sturdy fabric loop on the back near the top so you can hang it with carabiner, bungie cord, or even rope. There is no microphone and it will not do phone calls. The speaker hardware is great, near indestructible and has a 2 year warranty. I've checked out several this year and this is my current top pick. The app is solid, works well, but basic. It could be great with some savable EQ profiles and play list support. It's a short want list, which is a sign of a mature top tier product worthy of consideration on a short list. It's not quite 5 stars, but much better than 4 stars.
