Put some Epic in your Boom

I have a few bluetooth speakers but I was looking for a happy medium between the larger ones I have that aren’t as portable, and the smaller ones that don't sound great. The UE EpicBoom on paper looked like it would be a good compromise.
Unboxing the EpicBoom I was surprised by the size and heft. Seems like a nice size with some good heft and the materials felt good in the hand. Figured I’d start by charging, and realized they ship the unit with a USB C cable but no power supply. There’s a demerit. I get it, trying to be green and not include parts the customer might already have. But not everyone has a USB C pd charger laying around, and if they do, they probably have a USB C pd cable, so why include ½ of what’s needed? I do however, like the attached strap, makes it easy to grab and move around, and then the strap will magnetically attach to the back of the EpicBoom to keep it from flopping around.
So I skip charging for now, power up and pair it with my phone, no manual needed, turn on some tunes, and wow, it does sound kinda epic. I placed it on our kitchen island and did a 360 walk around, and the claims of 360 degree sound are accurate. You will notice a slight change in the sound as you circle around it, but it still sounds good.
I’ve been grabbing this for doing some chores outside, sounds great outside also.
Now that I know it works and sounds good, I installed the app on my android phone. There aren't a ton of features in the app, just the basic setup stuff. I noticed right away that a new firmware was available. Even though I followed the directions on keeping the app open etc, it still took a few tries. The update would fail, I would start it over and it would continue where it left off. After a few tries it hit 100% and was successful. Good that it was able to pick up where it left off and not brick the EpicBoom, but bad that it took more than one try for some reason?.
The price per pound on this speaker I think is quite high, but it does have great sound. It’s not blow your eardrums out rave in the warehouse all night long loud, but for the average person using it in the house or on the patio, around the pool, it’s plenty good. Physics do prevail, you are only going to get so much bass from a 4.7” woofer, and pair of 1.7” tweets but they managed to squeeze some nice sound from those small drivers. For the price I’d like to have wifi and streaming services built into the unit and not have to use my phone at all, but I knew that going into this product, so not faulting it.
I haven’t really noticed any difference with the adaptive EQ on /off, but I will say that it must work as no matter where I set the EpicBoom, it still sounds good.
Aside from the couple ‘annoyances’ (no charger and firmware) which I won't deduct any stars from my rating, The EpicBoom gets a solid 5 stars.

This is a nice sounding bluetooth speaker. Just the right size and gets plenty loud. The app is pretty friendly and helps with the pairing process, which is pretty straight forward. I had no issues connecting, customizing and playing music. Charging was simple, use the included white usb-c cable or any usb-c cable. No charging brick is included. The included cable is usb-c on both ends, by the way. The sound is full, 360 in direction and this unit benefits being next to a flat object to help project the sound. Kind of like corner loading a subwoofer. It just helps boost the sound. I have enjoyed using this speaker and it has almost made forget about my much larger speaker that has to be rolled around or carried to places. I said almost because any bass heavy music reveals its wekness because of its size. I have had to adjust the EQ bass down so the speakers dont bottom out (or sound like they are). Overall, I am pretty impressed and will use this speaker quite often, especially around the pool in the summer! Nice speaker!

This is speaker is the most versatile speaker I have ever own, and it has become my favorite speaker in just over a week. I have an office/gaming room set up in my home and this is where this speaker lives, but I am also a very outdoor person and so this speaker has already been camping and kayaking. I am very happy with the sound and the ease of use, and the app is also not complicated. Easy to set up and all, but I cannot say enough how good this awesome it is that this speaker looks good sitting next to my gaming pc, but then it’s also rugged and built strong enough to experience some tough love.
Here is a quick summary of my ratings per each feature in this EPICBOOM.
Sound 5/5
This is loud enough for the office and also for outdoor activities. I appreciate the 360 sound and the easy way to change the EQ using the app.
Battery 5/5
It took a bit longer than expected to charge to 100%, but the speaker really does last about 17 hours once it’s fully charge. This is perfect for camping because when you take smaller portable speakers, I have to use my charging blocks that were usually meant for my phone.
App and set up 5/5
Set up was smooth and the app is simple just how it should be. Volume and EQ access is all I need. I also love that I can turn the speaker on and off with the app. I didn’t know I would use this feature as much but when the speaker is not within reach, you can simply open the app and turn it on. More speakers should have this!
Design 5/5
At first I wasn’t sure about the design, but it has only grown on me and I love the material that is made out of because it helps me not worry about damaging this speaker when I bring it outdoors. I also appreciate the little handle when kayaking or when camping. I use it to hang it.
Over all, I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a loud speaker that can do the job in the house for a party or simply a computer AND also for anyone looking for an outdoor speaker that you can use with a bit of rough and tough love.

The Ultimate Ears EPICBOOM is my second “Boom” product - following a MegaBoom 3. I have to say I was surprised in several ways with the EPICBOOM. First, comparing against the MegaBoom makes me realize just how good the “Boom” products really are. Secondly, the amount and quality of sound that comes out of this somewhat compact speaker is nothing short of amazing.
EPICBOOM has deep rich bass you can feel, clean mid’s and bright clear highs. Volume is loud enough to fill a decent sized backyard.
Of course there’s an app for the EPICBOOM that offers four equalizer presets and the ability to create and save your own. My favorites are Deep Relaxation and the “Outdoor Boost” button. Directions say this button gives a 1db boost but for me it makes this little speaker sound like a surround sound system giving it a really immersive sound. Also, the EPICBOOM has both left and right channels to help explode your sound. Using the app you can also set up your one-touch playlist from Amazon, Apple Music or Spotify. Once you set this up, simply pressing the “Magic” button will start playing your pre-defined playlist.
The app also has a “PartyUp” feature that allows you to connect up to 150 boom speakers. Pairing my MegaBoom and EPICBOOM together was successful and sounded great when it worked. Unfortunately, there were a lot of drop outs and catch ups making PartyUp difficult to listen to. I imagine this is something that can be fixed with firmware updates.
Rated for 17 hours, you can expect to get a full day’s use out of the speaker then connect it to your charger with USB C.
The EPICBOOM is IP67 rated so no worries about the beach or pool and it floats. There is a carry strap that's held down magnetically but I would have preferred the strap be more a solid strap allowing you to hold it like a mug rather than a purse.
Overall I really like the EPICBOOM and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great speaker at this price point.

This thing gets LOUD!!! Great speaker!

First of all, this thing is massive! If you're looking for a small, portable speaker, this probably isn't for you. However, for things like going to the beach, hanging by the pool, tailgating or having a party outdoors, this is amazing! Easy to pair and setup using NFC and this thing gets LOUD! It also learns the room it's in and adjusts the speaker to maximize the acoustics of the surroundings. There's also an outdoor boost mode, but I found under most circumstances that wasn't needed and it took away some of the bass.
The clarity and richness of the sound is impressive for a portable speaker. UE Boom products are consistently rated at the top for their sound quality and the Epic Boom is the same, just louder with more bass. It's got a strap on the back that tucks away but also makes it easy to carry around. The fact that this is waterproof and produces this kind of sound is remarkable. It also makes it an easy purchase if you spend a lot of time outdoors because it can withstand falling in water (it floats btw), dirt, sand, spilled drinks, being dropped, etc. It's built to last!
Overall, highly recommend this for anyone that wants a high quality speaker they can take outdoors without worrying about it. If you want stereo, buy 2 and you can pair them! Just an overall great job by UE with the design and function!

A good party speaker

UE's Boom series speakers have been a favorite of mine for some time now. For years, the WonderBoom served as my bathroom speaker and the MegaBoom as my outdoor/ poolside speaker. I've long been a fan of the rugged design, waterproof nature, and perfectly acceptable sound performance.
The MegaBoom certainly has its limitations when it comes to an outdoor speaker; enter the EpicBoom. At nearly twice the size (width, really), it's chonky to be sure. It has a ruggedized base with a speckled finish that almost makes it look dirty. The top is covered in mesh with prominent volume up/down controls on the front (as is typical for UE speakers), and the top sports a matte rubberized finish with four buttons and an NFC pairing indicator. The speaker also has an integrated strap connected on the back, securing via magnet toward the bottom when not in use. The charging port is also on the back, near the bottom, which has a water-tight seal (and yes, it floats, I tested it in the pool).
In the box you get a USB-C charging cable with the speaker. That's it. No charging brick, I gather because UE assumes you already have thirty of them. But for a speaker with a battery of this size, I'd like to see some sort of fast charging brick included (it takes forever to charge).
Speaker performace is... perfectly acceptable, just like other UE speakers. It's not going to blow your socks off with huge dynamic range, but it makes a good, loud party speaker. If you like bass-heavy music, that is where it seems to do best at louder volumes; at max volume, treble and higher frequencies tend to overwhelm the speaker to the point where some of the sound is actually lost. But it puts out 360 degrees of sound, so placement shouldn't be an issue regardless of your surroundings.
Oh, and it floats. That's cool, I guess. I did appreciate that it floats in a way that still allows audio to be produced out of one side, unlike the WonderBoom from years ago.
The app experience is a good one, providing a custom EQ to adjust the sound profile to your preference. The Partyup feature continues to be available, for those with multiple Boom speakers. Maybe my favorite feature is the 'magic button' (which isn't magic, by the way), which can be pressed and held even when the speaker is off to activate a specific playlist in Apple or Amazon music. It's a nice touch when you don't have your phone nearby and want go-to jams.
The price tag on this one is $349, which is reasonable for a waterproof, rugged outdoor speaker capable of significant volume with a 17-hour battery life (your mileage may vary, of course). At that price range, the only real complaint I have is the exclusion of a charging brick. The audio performance is going to be good for a party/picnic/outdoor gathering in your backyard and provide enough entertainment for all.

Big Sound, Great Design

The Ultimate Ears EPICBOOM portable bluetooth speaker has a great sound packaged in a nice looking design that is somewhat rugged.
I like that the product arrived with minimal and recyclable packaging. The speaker itself is also designed to be recycled - made with a minimum of 59% post consumer recycled plastics. The speaker fabric is also 100% recycled polyester.
The black speaker with the striking chartreuse plus and minus volume buttons looks really good. This is a larger speaker than you might expect, at 6.3 inches long, 4.6 inches wide, and 9.4 inches tall. It also has a strap on the back that allows you to easily carry it, and the strap attaches magnetically to the speaker to stay in place.
The sound is great. It is 360 degree sound with two mid-high frequency transducers and one 4.6 inch woofer. This created immersive sound from all angles, and I found the default adaptive equalizer mode to work best. You can also change the equalizer mode in the app.
I like that you can connect two devices at the same time, and the distance is impressive. I haven’t hit the max, but the manual says that you can get 180ft of range (between your phone and the device). You can also pair Android devices by tapping the NFC logo. One of the best features in my opinion is the “magic button”. This allows you to set up a play list in the app (from a number of streaming music services). Doing this lets you tap the magic button on the top of the speaker and start playing that playlist.
Battery life is rated at 17 hours, and I’ve gotten a little more than that. I suspect playing at lower volume extends the time a bit. You an also pair the speaker with other Ultimate Ears devices, which is nice.
It is also a big more rugged than you might think. It is rated for dust, dirt, and water. It is also rated to withstand drops of 3 feet. It also floats so you can use it in the pool. A device that is this rugged yet looks this good is really nice to have.
Overall, this is an impressive sounding speaker with a great design, good battery life, and meant to withstand the elements.

The Logitech Ultimate Ears -EPICBOOM Portable speakers are a speaker force that is NOT to be wreckened with.
Upon unboxing, I was surprised to see how minimalistic the speaker is and it was quite impressive. The speaker is exactly what it is intended to be so their are not a million different buttons and thankfully their are no exposed buttons. On top is a very sleek panel for on/off, Bluetooth pairing, Outdoor boost (more on that later) and play pause). They also have a spot for NFC which is kind of neat. On the speaker portion at the top are the volume up and down buttons that have such a satisfying click to them. The back of the speaker has a really good and magnetic handle....life saver. The back bottom of the speaker has a USB-C port that is covered. It is a very handsome looking device.
The user experience though is incredible. After pairing my cell phone (super easy) I played some sonds and podcasts inside my house. This has adaptive 360 spatial sound which is unbelievable. It is such a joy to use this device with it's spatial awareness. Where this really panned out well, is outside. By hitting the outdoor boost, it allows for outdoor spatial awareness and it is super impressive. I tested the speakers out recently at an NFL game tailgate and it sounded super crisp.
Some other highlights are this is splash proof and IP67 rated so dust and water won't ruin the speaker, unless submerged for long periods of time. This is a perfect speaker for pools or the beach. I intend to continue using this speaker mostly outdoors and I actually am replacing my workout speaker with this as the sound quality is better.
I highly recommend this speaker and think it is a joy to use and listen to.

Great speaker for small/medium parties

The large size of it fills up a normal sized room but as with any portable speakers, it starts to lack the lower end once you start to pump the volume up. The connectivity is easy to do especially with the NFC connection and the Bluetooth connection. I like the black colored cloth with the rubber bottom. It makes it very appealing and stable when sitting on a desk. The attached handle/tie seems very sturdy and the magnetic end is a nice touch to make sure it's flushed onto the speaker when not in use. The sound itself is really not bad at all and it does sound good. I think for medium sized parties, this is plenty of sources to fill up the room. For pool parties and outdoors, this is definitely the speaker you're looking for. You can do more such as EQ if you download the app, but the speakers by itself does a lot out of the box so if you don't want to mess around inside an app, you can still get this. If there was any way to give the lower end a better boost, this would get a 5 star from me.
