    Can't live without my....

Coming from the Megablast I was a bit skeptical before purchase. For some odd reason, the Megablast stopped working out of nowhere and man was I sad. I had been keeping up with the new versions coming out, the one before this being super huge was not convenient for carrying around so I did not pull the trigger on purchasing it. I was even disappointed that I no longer had the Alexa feature to look forward to. But in the words of LL Cool J, "I can't live without my radio" and the day came when I couldn't take it any longer having no speaker to blast my tunes with. I was going to go ahead and get the big bulky blaster with the crazy price tag. I rushed to Best Buy with only a half hour left and looked on the shelf to play around with the big speaker. That's when I saw this one, the Epic Boom with the perfect size. I checked the pricing and it was a bit cheaper than the monster version. I pressed the demo button to hear if the sound was comparable to my old favorite the MegaBlast. Oh my goodness it sounded crappy. I said to myself no way this is their new model and it sounds worse than the priors. I carefully started reading the box to find out about all these wonderful features but it just did not make sense. I had not much time left til closing time and said to myself "Well, I guess I will take it just to have something to listen to my music on". I reached down to the shelf to find there was no more there. I wanted to shed tears at this point. A representative walked over to remind me the store was closing soon and I asked do you have this model in the back. She looked it up and yes, there was one left in the store somewhere. I hesitantly told her to go get it and I will make the purchase. After leaving the store I decided to open the box in the car to hear the model once more. The device was dead and nothing happened on the button press. I rode back home and sat the box on the bed thinking the whole time, that maybe I should just return it and get the huge one, at least it would sound better than what I had heard in the store. It took. me hours to decide if I was going to open the box and charge up the device. I talked myself into breaking open the package and went through the routine of setting up and plugging in chords for charging. The device made no peep nor did an indication of led lights show up. I was now upset, I paid for a defect I thought. I walked away from the thing and went outside for some cool off the anger time. A few hours went by and I returned to the room to see there was now a light. I pressed the on button and the familiar sound of it turning on just like the Megablast was what I heard. I may be wrong here but I could have sworn my Apple phone began giving instructions on how to download the device's software and firmware updates. I jumped in every turn to make sure the setup was correct. Once finished I now had the opportunity to listen to the music and man oh man the sound was incredible. This device sounds way better than my old favorite. I do not know how the company made something that was this good, better than ever. I rocked out all night and did not even turn it off to sleep. This is one amazing speaker. The new features are pretty decent as well. I do miss the Alexa feature though it did not work correctly all the time. With Alexa, you were able to sit with friends and family and play games when you tire from music listening. That is the only reason I left out one star. Overall this speaker is worth the purchase. You can carry it anywhere, throw it in the drink, and let it auto-adjust sound to its atmosphere. The workers at Best Buy should be trained to set these features up on store demos because at first, I was going to pass it up because of the crappy sound. They did not adjust anything and just sat it on the shelf.

Sound takes some equalization jimmying to sound good, but once you get the sweet spot with high quality streaming, it sounds pretty awesome. The only thing negative was the very high price. Fits on a bookshelf.

EPICBOOM is the life of the party!

The Ultimate Ears EPICBOOM is an amazing and versatile Bluetooth speaker that can easily function as the life of the party. During my testing, I was blown away by its performance, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful speaker to pair with their favorite media. The first thing I noticed about the EPICBOOM was the size and weight of the box it arrived in, which is pretty substantial for a Bluetooth speaker. Ultimate Ears did an excellent job of packaging the product, and unboxing is an enjoyable and straightforward process. In the box, you'll find the speaker, a USB-C charging cable, and various bits of paperwork with instructions and warranty information. Build quality is very nice with the EPICBOOM, as the majority of the speaker is a durable dark grey/black fabric-like material, with sections of plastic and rubber. The bottom of the EPICBOOM is rubberized, and is a different color and texture. On the top are the main controls, along with big “+” and “-“ signs on the front that control volume. On the bottom of the speaker are some grips for standing, and printed information on the underside panel. There are also 3 LED lights above the volume controls, that light up to let you know the charge level. While the EPICBOOM is on the heavier side for a Bluetooth speaker, it’s still light enough to easily be considered portable. There is a carrying loop on the rear of the speaker as well, for when you want to take your speaker with you on the go. The controls are simple enough, with a power button, a button used to pair the speaker, an “Outdoor Boost” button, and a play/pause button. There is also a Near Field Communication (NFC) icon, yet this only works with Android phones (and I was testing with Apple products). Connecting to my phone was done in seconds, and there is an Ultimate Ears BOOM app that I downloaded to further customize the EQ and sound settings of my speaker. Pushing the power button will quickly turn the speaker on or off, and automatically connect to your device’s Bluetooth. The pairing button is used by holding it in until the light starts blinking; this means that the EPICBOOM is now discoverable. The play/pause button is used to start or stop music playback, as well as skip forwards and back to different tracks. When I used the EPICBOOM in my backyard, it seemed that the Outdoor Boost button slightly lowered the bass frequencies, making it easier to max out the volume. While the EQ on the app is not very complex, I thought it was more than adequate for finding the best possible sound in every situation. This model also has adaptive EQ that tailors the sound based on your environment, and it seemed to work well. I admittedly did not notice a huge difference between leaving this setting on and then turning it off, but I would imagine that this also depends on where you’re playing the speaker. To test the EPICBOOM, I played a variety of music, from hip-hop, electronic, rock, classical, country, and reggae genres. I also connected the speaker to my TV and watched an action movie with the EPICBOOM as the sole audio source, to see what it could do. While the EPICBOOM has an amazingly clear and well-defined sound, it truly excels at reproducing bass in music and movies. On bass-heavy genres like hip-hop and electronic music, the low end was impressive, and remained strong even with the volume nearing 100%. The mid-range frequencies were also stunning, and really shined on rock, metal, and classical music that I listened to. The highs were crisp and clear, and were never impacted by the bass or mids. I do not know how many speakers are actually used inside the EPICBOOM, but it sounds as if it has dedicated high and low drivers. Also, the EPICBOOM gets loud! It's rated as a max volume of 94 decibels, and I do not doubt that this is accurate after spending some time with it. What impressed me was how good the sound remained even at high volumes – even when pushed, the bass was powerful, and every frequency came through beautifully. When I watched an action movie, I could clearly hear dialogue when quieter scenes were playing, and during action sequences, the impact of the EPICBOOM provided a great theatre-like sound. Other things about the EPICBOOM: - Charging is relatively quick with the included USB-C cable. I love that the 3 lights let me know how full the charge is. - It is rated as IP67 water and dust-proof, and can spend 30 minutes submerged in water. - You can use a “Party Up” feature to connect to other Ultimate Ears speakers, and play music in sync at even crazier volumes. - The battery life is rated at 17 hours, which I found to be a REALLY long time! I have been able to charge it, and then use it for hours before I even need to think about recharging it. I also like that the app has a battery life gauge to keep me informed as well. - The EPICBOOM has cool little sounds for when you turn it on, connect it to Bluetooth, etc. These can be turned off in the app. - Updating the firmware is also done using the app. I found that it took about 10-15 minutes to apply an update shortly after I first started using the EPICBOOM. - EQ has 5 presets, and is a 5-band EQ system. Overall, I have been astounded at how well the EPICBOOM has performed with anything I’ve thrown at it. The only possible downside I can think of is that it may be a bit on the larger side for a Bluetooth speaker, but it’s still compact enough to be put into a backpack, in my opinion. Even though it’s not tiny, it feels extremely robust, well made, and could easily be used to entertain a group of people. Additionally, the Ultimate Ears BOOM app is responsive and easy to use, and makes customizing the sound of your EPICBOOM even more streamlined. If you are looking for a Bluetooth speaker that can deliver on huge, impressive sound, I would definitely recommend the Ultimate Ears EPICBOOM!

I was totally unaware of the Ultimate Ears company and product line even though they have been providing portable, wireless Bluetooth speakers to the consumer market since 2013 per the entry on Wikipedia. The full story behind Ultimate Ears, from their beginnings in 1995 to today, I found very interesting. Considering their origins with the professional side of the music industry and long history with musicians, I suspect they might know a thing or two about what it takes to make great sounding music reproduction devices. And I was right. Not only does their EPICBOOM speaker sound wonderful with full, rich bass, but it does not sound muddy or muffled and also has great mid and high frequency reproduction that makes listening to it at loud, room-filling, distortion-free levels very pleasurable. The speaker contains two 1.7” mid and high frequency drivers, and one 4.6” woofer that supply sound 360 degrees around, at 94 decibels maximum. The “Outdoor Boost” button gives an additional one decibel (95 dB total), which at first doesn't seem like much, but does result in a noticeable increase in oomph. The accompanying phone app has five built-in equalization curves (one being “flat”) in addition to being able to create custom frequency curves with 5 sliders and then name and save them for future use. The app also has a “Party Up” feature which lets you connect to other Ultimate Ears brand wireless speakers that may show up to your gathering. The app also allows remote control of powering the speaker on and off, and gives you access to your playlists on Amazon Music, Apple Music (iOS only), and Spotify (Android only). Since the EPICBOOM is designed for the party environment, it has an IP67 rating which according to the manufacturer will allow this speaker to “get submerged in water for 30 minutes” and survive drops of up to 3 feet. I’m not sure how you can submerge it as the web site shows it floating in a swimming pool and states that it does float in water, which should make this an ideal sound source for use on a boat. I’m not sure who buys a $350 speaker and tosses it in the water, but it is nice to know that it should withstand accidental splashes and clumsy handling. The speaker’s controls are on the top, under a rubberized panel with some of the symbols debossed in the rubber. The symbols are not highlighted in a different color, or backlit thus making them a little hard to see depending on the ambient lighting. The power button does light up once the unit is turned on. The up and down volume controls are a very large "+" and "-" on the front panel in a vibrant, contrasting color, making them easy to see and use. These two buttons do require a bit of force to actuate them, meaning you have to hold onto the speaker and you can’t simply touch them for adjustments - the force required will push the speaker over if you don’t steady it. There is also what looks like a small hole on the top panel which at first looks like a microphone, but the EPICBOOM does not offer the ability to make or receive a phone call. The USB-C charging port is on the backside of the speaker, at the bottom edge and is covered by small rubber flap. The included charging cable is USB-C on each end and the manufacturer recommends using a charging adapter (not included) with at least 15 watts of output. The EPICBOOM has a very nice build quality, using materials that are pleasant to touch and it appears substantial and durable enough to survive a fair amount of mistreatment. The web site describes the content of the speaker that is made from recycled materials and the in-box documentation shows how to remove the lithium-ion battery for recycling at the end of its life. At present the web site does not show the availability to purchase a replacement battery. There is a carrying strap attached to the back of the speaker that will also allow it to be hung up, but it is not something you would want to carry around for long as it weighs over four pounds. We have had a few Bluetooth speakers in our household, and I must say, the EPICBOOM is quite handily the best sounding of them all, without a doubt. The other thing I learned is I need to research things I may not be familiar with, as I had originally assumed Ultimate Ears was just a new brand name being marketed by Logitech…once I read the company’s story, boy was I wrong.

UE has always made a name for themselves in the Bluetooth speaker world because they were one of the first ones on the scene. Their new Epicboom is a great addition to this scene and has become my instant favorite! PROS: - Take this out of the box I was immediately impressed with the size to weight ratio. It has a nice solid built with good size to it, but it’s surprisingly light for its size. - Setup is quite simple because you power it on and connect via Bluetooth and you are done! You can download the UE app but it is not required. The nice thing about the app was it downloaded a firmware update for the Epicboom and you can use the EQ on it to turn up the settings which I found helpful. - The speaker itself sounded really really nice! It produced crisp clear audio with deep bass and overall just a loud impactful sound when playing it outside or inside. Obviously sound quality is one of the most important aspects of these speakers and I thought the Epicboom sounded fantastic. - Besides sound quality, probably the biggest selling point of this speaker is its “ruggedness.” It can handle being dropped, can be fully in water for 30 minutes, and even floats in water. On top of that, it has 17 hours of battery life so it’s built to be out with you all day on the lake or at the pool or just wherever you might be outdoors all day! - Some sneaky nice features are the addition of USB-C charging to this and it has this really nice strap on the back of it that connects to the speaker magnetically to be out of the way when you aren’t using it. CONS: - So it has 360 degree sound but really the main speaker is on the “front” side but it’s built so it sends the music to the “back” side too. It’s a nice sound but there is a difference in volume on one side vs the other. BOTTOM LINE: - The UE Epicboom makes a strong case for the best Bluetooth speaker to bring with you on your adventures! It is nicely designed, is completely water proof and even floats, packs a powerful punch of sound quality, and can last for 17 hours. I think people will really like its mix of how big it it while also feeling very portable still!

The Epicboom is the only speaker you need for parties. While it may be compact compared to most party speakers it's sound is immense Set up is incredibly simple. The NFC pad on top makes pairing really easy. Unlike most speakers you don't need to worry about making sure a previously paired device has BT disabled, just tap the new phone. Makes jumping around easier This speaker is so loud. The 360 speaker carries sound throughout both indoors and out. If you are outdoors, you can hit the tree for that extra outdoor boost bump. Should you have additional Ultimate Ears speakers, you can link those within the App. The app easily finds the speaker when it is on, and can find other ones nearby to link. You have some slight EQ adjustments which is pretty nice depending on what you're listening to. Well it's has the ability to load playlist from your streaming apps one downside is that they only have Spotify and Amazon music. It would be nice if there was support for YouTube music. The speaker is a little heavy but the strap is heavy duty so if you do want to hang it somewhere you can be confident that it's not going to fall. The range is so large, 55 m, that if you are say camping or out at the beach, you can walk a fair bit away without worrying that you're going to ruin the fun for everyone With 17 hours of battery it's more than enough for a weekend out without having to worry about needing a recharge but if you do it charges fairly quickly with its USB-c to USB-C cable IP67 waterproof means in the event of poor weather you can worry about cleaning up your more sensitive items first and letting this sit out. Overall, a very capable speaker that has expandability with additional speakers should you need more with a sound so full in all directions Many features in the app but would be nice if Playlists had more streaming services

No styrofoam in the excellent packaging! Stated to be carbon neutral in the manufacture and shipping, with recyclable packaging. The product has been manufactured with sustainability in mind. Per their claims on their website, the Epicboom is made from 100% post-consumer recycled polyester fabric, a minimum of 59% post-consumer recycled plastic. A USB-C to USB-C cable for charging was included, leaping into the more modern age. All UE speakers prior used micro-USB ports for charging, which seemed rather dated to me. For charging you need to provide your own power source. The company states a 15W charger will fully charge the battery in 2 hours. They noted that it needed to be more than just your laptop’s USB-C port, however. The speaker was very simple to set up via the download from the Apple App store or Google Play for Android. Easy to use iPhone app which walked you through the steps. I was quickly informed to download firmware update, which was quickly accomplished via WiFi. The Epicboom is a substantial sound source. Hefty in handling, not a lightweight; weighing in at about 2 kg. It is twice the size of the 2018 released Wonderboom. It does sport the UE trademark large + and - volume controls on the front of the speaker, as do their entire line of portable speakers. I felt it had astounding bass; enough to irritate neighbors if you live in an apartment. The bass even with the Bass Boost off was rather prodigious indoors. It could be a lease breaker in an apartment… I was easily able to select Epicboom as a choice on my Peloton bike; having the workout music through a more robust speaker than over the built in Bike speaker made the pedaling to the beat even more enjoyable. The Epicboom iPhone app was easy to use. You can link to AppleMusic or Spotify and it gives you one touch playing of your previously linked playlists. Using the “Magic” button, even if the speaker has been turned off, will turn on the speaker and starts playing your last chosen playlist. The app has a limit of 4 such stored playlists, which you can cycle through on the app or by repeatedly pressing the Magic button. There is a prodigious BlueTooth reach from phone to speaker. Using wireless earbuds as a comparison, my earbuds’ Bluetooth range fades to poor audio at about 25 feet, and disappears completely if you leave from the living room into the garage. But if I take my phone about 50 feet (out into the backyard, and into the shed) from the speaker inside the house, with several doors closed between the two), the sound quality doesn’t fade a bit. UltimateEars states that the Bluetooth range is 180 feet (55 meters). There is on the top an Outdoor setting marked as a little tree, one touch, to optimize the sound for non-enclosed rooms, etc. I think this generally mostly boosts the bass. Also on the top of the speaker is a NFC button, to one touch connect to a NFC-compatible smartphone with Android 8.0 or later. As an iPhone owner, I did not trial that feature. Waterproofing to an IP 67 rating for protection from pool side splashes or even short term immersion up to a depth of 1 meter. It actually floats, a feat I did not test out. There is a fabric loop on the top back of the speaker, which uses a magnet to snap in place when released, keeping it tidy but available. The EpicBoom uses 2 mid to high range speakers (1.5” diameter) with a single 4.6” woofer. The oval design promises 360° bass rich portable sound that's surprisingly big for its size. The output can be cranked up to stated 94 dB, about the loudness of a gasoline lawnmower. I always use ear plugs for noise protection when mowing the lawn, so I didn’t test the maximum volume of the Epicboom, but took their word for it. You can pair two EpicBoom speakers for stereo. In the UE Boom app, “Party Up” chains up to a total of 150 compatible speakers in an array, so that all corners of the setup hear the same output. The speakers so enabled include Epicboom, Boom, Boom 2, Boom 3, Megaboom, Megaboom 3, and Hyperboom speakers. The Wonderboom is absent from this list. Battery life is claimed of up to 17 hours of playtime, with a USB-C charging port that has a water-tight flap sealing it off when not plugged in. A series of pre-sets for tonal menus were easily switched via the app, to vary for the spectrum desired. The pre-sets were named as : “Signature” (which was a flat curve, not boosting or dampening any portion of the spectrum), spoken/podcast, gaming/movie soundtrack (suggesting to me that this could be a TV soundbar surrogate), Bass Boost, and Deep Relaxation mode. The speaker has “Adaptive Equalization” which claims to sense and match changes in the setting’s acoustics, so that the output remains similar if you move from one room to another. In conclusion, I felt this was a very fine speaker. A pair would nicely create a fine soundbar, and not need a separate subwoofer given its bass output. The options for outdoor and party time music will be perhaps its greatest feat. The only downside, compared to non-portable speakers that I currently own and use, is the lack of WiFi and voice control. Since this is Bluetooth only, there is no ability for voice assistants, searches, etc. The Epicboom must use some microphone capacities to automatically adjust the equalization to the room’s acoustics, but not to process or respond to speech commands. What it lacks in that facility, it makes up for in music fidelity, output, durability, battery life, and portability.

Hello friends, This is my quick review of the Ultimate Ears Epicboom! I picked up this Bluetooth speaker for my back patio that is covered and I wanted to try a speaker that's waterproof. This Ultimate Ears Epicboom seemed like just the thing, so I grabbed it. First off it's big and beautiful. It comes with a cool little carrying strap that's got a magnetic hold-down when not in use. It's fairly heavy and it seems to me to be well-built. Since Ultimate Ears Epicboom is selling this unit as a waterproof speaker that can play underwater, I decided to test that. I can say with total confidence that it is indeed waterproof. I tossed it over into my hot tub while it was playing and it kept right on playing music while in the water. With that said there is a small problem when you do that, it sounds bad in the water. The speaker is waterproof but I wouldn't suggest using that method for playback because it's too muffled sounding. OK, so does it sound good out of the water? Yes, it does this Epicboom speaker sounds fantastic! For me, I had great success putting the speaker near a wall but not up against it. This made the soundfield really big. I think it helped the 360 sound bounce around my patio. However, you can sit this in the middle of a room or in the yard and it will sound great all the way around. Due to the fact that this unit has speakers all around the outside of itself allows sound to shoot out from every direction. As for the sound quality, I like the punchy bass and clear highs and I like the midrange as well. It's balanced nicely with the rest of the bandwidth. Overall just a great Bluetooth speaker. Just what I needed out back to help me relax! Would I recommend this Ultimate Ears Epicboom to a friend? You bet it's great for outdoor spaces and indoor spaces alike. It sounds great with big bass and carries easily. I haven't reached the end of battery life yet and have been playing it for 3 days now so battery life is great too. I will include pics of it running in the water.

I have had the opportunity to use several different Bluetooth speakers from Logitech over the years, and this is the largest and loudest of them all. If you are looking for a portable speaker that will fill large spaces with strong bass and comes with a lot of nice bonus features, this is a great choice. Here are my thoughts: Pros: - First, audio quality is outstanding. I've never been disappointed by Logitech UE products before and they continue to impress. The bass can really pound for a portable speaker and can fill rooms of any size. If you want to fine tune audio settings, you can do so with their BOOM app. One of my favorite features of this speaker is that the sound comes out in a full 360 degrees. You can hear it well no matter which side of the speaker you are on. - It is perfect for beach/pool parties as it can handle sand and water. I didn't test this claim, but Logitech boasts 30 minutes of survival time if it were to be underwater! - This speaker has impressive battery life and Bluetooth range. You'll get up to 17 hours on a single charge. And if you are wandering far from your speaker, you shouldn't see many interruptions in playback with a range of 55 feet. - For outdoor events, I found the attached strap to be handy. You can hook it around a tree branch for elevated sound (great for camping). And I like the magnetic tab on the end which secures the strap neatly to the speaker if it is not being used. This was a cool design choice. Also for outdoor events, this speaker has a unique "Outdoor Boost" button to help spread the sound out better when needed. Cons: - I'm not a fan of the design choice for the base of the speaker. It has a paint-splatter / starry sky design that kind of makes the speaker look like it could be dirty or scuffed up. This is certainly a higher-end speaker, but you will not be disappointed in the quality. The Ultimate Ears EPICBOOM is a very impressive product from Logitech.

I'll get the elephant in the room out of the way first. This speaker"s retail price is very pricey. At this price it's hard to recommend unless there is a substantial sale forthcoming. It's not a huge speaker, but also not small.. The Epicboom charges via ISB-C, which is pretty standard the past few years. This was in question due to their release last year with micro-usb. There is no 3.5mm jack for wired.use, so this is Bluetooth only. That's disappointing to see and limits the connectivity of the speaker. There is a strap on back to carry the speaker, but the rubber end is magnetic and sticks to the speaker, so it can be at times hard to get the strap separated to put your hand in-between. Mesh covered body with an odd matte black plastic base with white specs. This makes it look like it's dirty or dusty. Performance wise the speaker uses the UE app and you can set custom EQ through that, which is a good thing. You can also pair multiples of these speakers together and it will even play wireless with other certain UE speakers such as the Hyperboom..sound quality is good overall, but bass heavy music can create some distortion. So overall this is a pretty good speaker for most music, but not really optimal for bass heavy music. The price is really what makes me not want to recommend this one.

First I'm happy to say that the Epicboom was shipped with all biodegradable materials. Unboxing: In the box along with the speaker is a USB-C to C charger cable and a quick start sheet. Connecting: I paired it with my Galaxy S22 Ultra, there was no issue, after accepting the pair request it was up and running. After I downloaded the app, it immediately said I was ready for an update that took aprx 5 or 6 minutes. Playing: Until now I thought no other Bluetooth could have a bigger sound than the speaker seen in the background, and it does have a big sound but...the UE Epicboom blew it out of the water! The bass on the speaker is thumping and the treble is a nice compliment, both can be fine tuned in the app.  Misc stuff: Aside from the big volume buttons on the front of rhe speaker, everything else is on the top.  Power - press to turn on Bluetooth - press and hold to pair NFC - touch N to connect Tree - press to turn on outdoor boost Forward/pause - controls music +/- - held at same time for battery life Charger port - bottom back of speaker Conclusion: This is a big beefy speaker with rich sound. Thankfully there's a handle on the back, otherwise trying to carry it in one hand would be very clumsy. My ears did not pick up a volume difference when turning on the boost, but I could care less because at max volume this baby is loud, I can't wait to take it to the docks with me!

It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This Speaker!

Over ten years ago I had my first foray into the world of Ultimate Ears with their (imo) flagship UE Boom. It was the first time I had ever experienced the ability to connect one portable speaker to another without the tethering of cables. And for its size, the Boom was a great little speaker. Then the world of portable speakers was turned upside down with one company after another putting forward their versions of the portable speaker, and it seemed as though UE was overshadowed by the sheer number of alternate speakers out there. And now comes along the Ultimate Ears EpicBoom Wireless Bluetooth Speaker. And what a pleasure this speaker is! When I ordered the EpicBoom, I thought it was a larger speaker, so I was a bit surprised when it arrived on my doorstep. It seemed so much smaller than I thought it would be. But when I picked it up, I was just as surprised by how hefty it was, weighing in at a little under five pounds. That may not seem like a lot, but in a speaker that is roughly 10x6x5, its impressive. The speaker came very well packaged in a very durable shipping-proof box. It was well-wrapped and intelligently packed. Kudos to UE for their foresight. As I unpacked the speaker, I noted the box contained the speaker, USB cable, an already-attached carrying strap, and of course, a quick-start guide. Before I forget, I want to point out that the speaker is predominantly made from recycled materials! Another shout-out to UE for their consideration of the environment. The overall design of the EpicBoom is quite simplistic...minimalistic. There aren't a bunch of different buttons or controls to deal with. In fact, the controls are limited to Power, Bluetooth Pairing, Outdoor Boost, and Play/Pause. There is of course their trademark +/- on the front of the speaker, and a very-well protected/waterproof USB port. The speaker itself is covered in a superior-quality seamless cloth mesh that makes holding it in your hands a very soothing and pleasurable experience. This may sound a bit odd, but I couldn't help but allow myself to simply get lost in the alluring shape and the textures, observing the almost other-worldly engineering and design. No matter where this speaker is placed, it will be noticed, and people will talk about it. Continuing the topic of design, the EpicBoom's base is constructed of what I'm guessing is rubber, complete with little white speckles that remind me of the night sky, adding to its other-world design. The base will absolutely keep the speaker from sliding on almost any surface. And, as if to say "We're not done yet!", UE includes a magnetized strap that makes sure the speaker will always keep its impeccable appearance. But what about the sound? UE boasts the EpciBoom comes with two 1.7" (45mm) active mid-high frequency transducers and one 4.6" (120mm) woofer, and is capable of 360 degree immersive sound. So what did I think when I tested it out? In all honesty, I was astounded by just how loud this little speaker would go! I live on three acres, and so I placed the EpicBoom in the middle of my yard and put it to the test. I placed the speaker approximately 150' from the house under a tree and returned to my front porch. I already had it connected via Bluetooth. When I got to the porch, I noticed it still had a very strong BT connection. So, I disconnected and then reconnected, and had no problems doing so. I went to my playlist and chose a song to try out, and hit play. I was quite pleased with how good it sounded, even from so far away. No, it wasn't loud enough to blow out my eardrums, not by any means. But the sound was clear, not garbled. I had it turned all the way up and had the Outdoor Boost enabled. No distortion whatsoever. And again, this was from 150' away!! As with any speaker that is turned up to Max, the closer I got to it, the more difficult it became to hear what my friend was saying. It became just a bit uncomfortable from the loudness. Before I actually walked back to the speaker, I did a 360 degree walk around to test its boast of 360 degree immersive sound. By golly, it is indeed a 360 degree speaker...sounded the same no matter where we were. I then went through all the presets on the equalizer, which, by the way, is disabled in Outdoor Boost mode, and noticed very distinct differences in each setting. You can also create your own equalizer settings, so I experimented at length with many various settings. So as far as the sound goes, taking into account its size, I am 100% sold on the EpicBoom. It delivers sound and quality found in speakers that far exceed its own rather sizeable price point. But as if the sound quality is not enough, the EpicBoom is also waterproof AND floatable, and can handle depths up to a little over three feet underwater. I absolutely struggled with this, but I decided if I am going to write a complete review, I had to test this part out. So, I filled up the bathtub and tossed it in. In all honesty, I felt as though I had made a terrible mistake, and that I had just ruined a $350 speaker. After submerging it twice (once without music playing and the second time with music playing), I was relieved to find it was still working perfectly. It took a lot of shaking before almost all of the water had been removed, and then I placed it in front of an air mover for a couple of hours. All the water is gone and its still working great. When it is all said and done, this is the portable speaker everyone needs if they are looking for one. It sounds great, its extremely well-built and amazingly aesthetic, has fantastic range, and is even waterproof. Its connectable to other speakers, and has a speaker life of well over 15 hours. I've heard people balk at the somewhat hefty price, but the fact it can fall into the pool and survive makes it well worth the price point. This is a speaker I am going to tell everyone about, and I will be recommending it highly as well.

The audio champions at Ultimate Ears have done it again. To any of you who have used the UE Boom, UE Megaboom, etc. This product will be extremely familiar. The simplicity of the device is spot on! On the front, you have volume up and down. On top, you have your Play/Pause/Next/Prev button, Outdoor Mode button, Bluetooth button, and Power button. The device can also pair automatically via NFC for quick connections. You will be set up and working with this device in 5 minutes or less! Finally, the USB-C charging port is covered by a rubber grommet on the back of the device. The battery life on this is OUTRAGEOUS. Granted, it's a big speaker, it has plenty of space for a battery to go... But after using the EPICBOOM, I'm left astonished. I used this speaker throughout the weekend while I was working on yard projects, and I got at least 12 hours of straight listening out of it with plenty of power to spare. This device is rated for 17 hours of audio playback, and I have no doubts about the battery lasting that long. The sound is high quality, super enjoyable. Maybe some of you will be familiar with speakers that are lacking at lower volumes - where the audio lacks definition and space. I have not experienced that issue with the EPICBOOM. Even at very quiet volumes, I'm getting the proper amount of base and sound definition. It's absolutely refreshing. Build quality is exactly what I'd expect from an Ultimate Ears product - Rugged, built to last, ready to take a tumble or beating, and of course, completely water resistant (IP67 rating). No complaints here! I tested the 180ft range and Outdoor boost mode while working on my projects, and I wasn't disappointed. 180ft is a ridiculous amount of distance to have from your Bluetooth speaker (if you're listening to it), but it certainly works! I don't think I had any radio frequency interference near me though, so bear that in mind. Outdoor boost mode is the same as previous models. The bass is a bit bigger, and the sound travels further - likely because that button tunes the device to fully take advantage of its 360 degrees of speakers. In total? It's hard to have any complaints about this product. It's another wonderful additional to the Ultimate Ears lineup, and if you need big sound that can fill a house or a yard, I recommend checking this one out. P.S. The battery is located in the bottom of the unit and is user-replaceable. That's a big deal folks. You'll get a lot of life out of this product.

I took this to a festival I was working, pre event. Everyone loved it. We played some Taylor Swift and some Blues and it all sounded good. Out of the box, this was only 20% charged. I tried the included cable and plugged that into a USB power port. It was not powering the speaker at all. I used a wall brick and it started charging. It looks like it needs about 15watts to charge. So keep that i mind if you are out. You can just use Bluetooth to play music. It sounded just fine. If you only have 1 like me that may work just fine. With the app i did get a firmware update. So far I think the only real benefit of the app is if you have multiple speakers. The sound was very good. I didn’t get bass heavy.highs and lows were all good. People all around the speaker had no problems hearing. We swapped between android and apple devices and it all paired well. My usual complaint, what have dark colored controls with a dark background. I’ll use a white brush to make it all easier to read. I love this has USB-C.

I have listened to many different Bluetooth speakers, including expensive, main stream and inexpensive models. I also own a BOOM three and a wonder boom three. In my experience and opinion, the ultimate ears speakers are the best in every category and this new epic boom speaker is simply the best, portable Bluetooth speaker I have heard. I tested with Beethoven, jazz, Italian trap, reggae, blues, rock, as well as TobyMac and Phil Wickham all performed well with clear mid range and balanced bass. The speaker is about the same height as the mega boom, but is significantly wider and heavier. The design is fantastic, including the large colored plus and minus volume buttons on the front. The top buttons are slightly recessed so that they are not touched by accident. The unit has a nice quality nylon strap with a magnet, which keeps it flush against the back of the speaker out of you unless you actively separate it and put your fingers into the strap. The base is more solid, appearing, and there is a water protected, USB charger port. If you are charging level LEDs appear on the front. It worked with several PD chargers often at 20v and 0.5 A.

Great sound quality all the way around. I typically like a little more bass in my music and this speaker delivers big time. Very easy to set up and use. For the size of this it puts out great music without taking up a lot space. If you’re looking for a Bluetooth speaker with excellent sound, I highly recommend this one
