Great - If your network is great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my HD Homerun. I have media center on my PC, Surface Pro, and Xbox 360 and this is the hub of my home TV/DVR capabilities. Most of the problems I see people have with this is bad picture or other issues. You're taking a limited compressed high definition picture and are throwing it across the network. To stream to my Xbox, it's going twice over the network (HD-PC-Xbox# It's a huge demand if your network isn't up to par or just has bad settings. Wireless? My Surface Pro BARELY can manage it wirelessly. Any interference and there's artifacts and frame drops. #But the Surface Pro has a weak wireless card to begin with)

Posted .Thanks for the review. We always recommend a wired network connection when available, however we understand that wifi use is needed in many homes. Two things that affect the quality of the signal, starting with the antenna placement - we recommend going to www.tvfool.com to verify placement and expected channels to minimize signal pixelation. as for WiFi , we recommend a strong A/C network or access points for streaming full MPEG2 / HD signals throughout the home
If you have a heavily used home network, we also offer the HDHomeRun EXTEND which offers hardware compression of that HD signal and helps facilitate use over a taxed home network.

cord cutting for 2017
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. They finally have these in stores, cut the cord in the morning drove over to best buy and had live TV in the afternoon. Streams perfectly to my Nvidia Shield and MiBox. Pro: easy setup, 2 tuners, it works, Android and Windows apps are free Con: this is not really a con of the product but getting proper signal can be tricky. Silicondust provides maps on where towers are located for your zip code. Also found an Android app that displays reception on your phone in real time. Next: will need to try their DVR offering.

Posted .Welcome to the family. Glad the android apps are working well for you. Our simultaneous, cross platform use in the home (multi device, multi room, multi user) is just one great feature of the HDHomeRun ecosystem. You will enjoy our HDHomeRun DVR around the home the same way.
As for Antenna placement, we recommend use of  www.TVFool.com as a useful tool. Enter your actual home address and a graph will tell you what channels are strongest by pointing / placing the antenna in a specific direction. Additionally, if you are good with indoor, mounting attic or outdoor, or for some, up a mast reaching higher.

Free local channels, set it and forget it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Plugged it in, installed the Win10 app and had Live TV. Didn't need configure anything...had no idea there were over 70 local channels. Zero issues so far. Setup is mindless; if you can figure out how to set up your antenna then you're good. Win10 and Android apps are solid, they've been pushing weekly updates and bug fixes but I've had no issues thus far.

Horrible Experience
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The device lacks key features to make it a viable consumer product. The lack of a signal strength meter is a huge negative. I used the app on an Apple and Google device and they both had performance and hanging issues. The interface through Roku was a joke. And good luck finding a suitable recording medium (ie. Network storage device). The lack of any decent documentation requires you to rely on the forums for setup help and troubleshooting. I do not recommend this product. Tablo is so much better.

Posted .Sorry to hear you were having issues with set up. We presume you went to www.my.hdhomerun.com which is our full instruction page with details about all compatible devices. If you are using Roku, that means there is another 3rd party system in the middle that may be the cause of your issues as we do NOT have a Roku Channel so that means you may be using PLEX as a 3rd party software which is NOT HDHomeRun - we have our own applications for Live and DVR that are completely separate from Roku - Please contact our [email protected] team for assistance and debugging of your issues and let's get you up and running and happy with your expererience

Inconvenient setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hello, The problem with this device is that you have to hardwire in to your router. If your router is in a difficult position (I.e basement or main floor) the chances are your antenna isn't receiving a whole lot of channels. Therefore, you would only be redistributing a few channels throughout your home over the network. Your box should have the ability to connect via Wifi similar to Airtv. I would also consider a lifetime subscription fee. Cord cutters do not like monthly subscriptions.

Posted .We do not require to be connected directly to your main router, we just need to be hardwire connected to your home network. This can mean via a Switch somewhere in the home as well. On board Wifi use is limited to placement in the home as well. Not always is the Antenna spot the best for the wifi spot and visa versa. We designed the HDHomeRun to connect ANYWHERE on your home network and then those connected streams become PART of your home Wired or Wifi network from anywhere in the home. So you can see this is more efficient as part of the wifi network and make ease of set up Your Choice as to where to put the device. Many have in the attic / in a drawer / in the basement / etc - and as long as it is Somewhere connected the network - and your Wifi is good throughout the home - (i.e. a Mesh Network or good AC network) then you are golden. Sorry that this may not have been clear - definitely do not require you to tuck it away in a dark and inaccessible place - put it anywhere you have a connection to your home network - and the HDHomeRun Just Works from there.... if any issues - please do not hesitate to contact [email protected] for further assistance.

Solid Tuner, Quick and Painless Setup

Easy setup, good interface, weak tuner
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setup was simple though wish didn't have to go online to do it. Also wish you could refresh the channels via the app. Interface is clean and easy to use. I got more channels by connecting antenna directly to the TV instead of through he homerun. Which I thought was strange.

Great with new Premium tv
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using a Hdhomerun connect for 3 years for OTA. Now that Silicon Dust released their $35 month cable replacement. I picked up a second box, just for Premium tv (didn't need to attach an antenna), works great. Now deciding on which DVR service to use, like that I have many choices.

Exceded Expectations
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product did exactly what it claimed to do, it was super easy to set up ( 2 steps ), and it actually resulted in better reception that our antenna plugged directly into the TV (internal signal amplifier?). I would buy HD Homerun Duo again in a heartbeat.

DVR costs extra
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HD HomeRun works great for local channels, but nothing in the description said that there is an extra yearly fee to use the DVR capabilities. The whole purpose of cutting the cord is to get rid of subscriptions.

Posted .Thank you for your review. Our packaging does show right on the front that we have a $35 per year , per entire household annual subscription for our DVR service. We also discuss our DVR and cost of such on our website. It is not listed on the Best Buy site since it is not purchased through resellers, only direct from Silicondust. Your message has been passed to our content team.
We truly hope that you enjoy the HDHomeRun experience.

Great but has a few drawbacks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was currently a subscriber of TiVo and had the Romeo OTA DVR. This box connects directly to your television with an HDMI cord. I do not however like the $15 a month subscription to TiVo for the channel guide. So I decided to give this a try. I connected to my gigabit Ethernet network and accessed it with my Nvidia Shield using live channels app to access it. Even with a gigabit router and all gigabit wired connections, I still found the bitrate to my Nvidia Shield through the network was not what I would have liked. It did appear to me that the TiVo picture was better especially in fast action motion like football. There does tend to be some pixelation of the datastream in fast action with the hdhomerun. I did try the hdhomerun app and found it to be user-unfriendly. As far as channel surfing and setting up recordings live channels from Google is superior for now. The only thing I didn't like about live channels from Google was that you could not watch the show you were currently recording you had to wait until the recording was over to watch it. I think in time these devices will be better but for now I went back to my TiVo roamio OTA. The DVR function there is much better and the picture is clear throughout the show. I am disappointed I really hoped I could get rid of the TiVo but I hate to say that is still a superior product

Posted .Silicondust has a strict goal of 2 seconds on channel change and allowing channel surfing now found on so many devices that make you buffer and delay your changes by up to 30 seconds
We offered up a re-imagined, patented guide with our Channel Slice viewing experience to NOT block the screen / show that you are viewing as you look through the guide. Offering a better experience than old fashioned guides. i.e. pull out channel 4 to next week at 2pm - and as you go up and down the channels they all Slice Out at the same time slot - which you can then adjust forward and backward there. You can click your desired show in the future and create a recording rule at will. Showing you poster art and show synopsis at any time during your 14 days Slice View guide allows a fully functional TV experience by allowing TV to still be seen, and recordings to be set, rather than a segmented guide blocking all or most of the screen.
Please go to my.hdhomerun.com to be sure you have the latest firmware. Please allow our Support team to assist with any issues, they are happy to help debug as needed. [email protected]

Dual Tuner with MPEG2 support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this so I could watch football in the fall and it works really well. I put the HDHomeRun upstairs and the antenna near the attic for the best signal and then CAT6 runs to my home server. The phone app is decent enough, but the real benefit comes from pairing this with TVheadend for free DVR and playback via Plex (free). Pros: * Not a PCIe card, so I can co-locate it with my antenna for minimal signal loss over coaxial. * Dual Tuner * Comes with a decent phone/tablet app for live viewing Cons: * Doesn't have a Roku app, so if you want to watch on Roku it works better to cast from a PC or use a service Plex

Posted .It's always surprising to find the people who think it's necessary to put their HDHomeRun near their PC. You've got it exactly right. Hide it away with the antenna, let ethernet do its thing! Just FYI, the HDHomeRun CONNECT DUO now supports Premium TV, which means you can also get ESPN for Monday Night Football and even more Saturday college football. Welcome to the HDHomeRun family!

No direct app for AppleTV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The salesperson said that the HDHomeRun Duo would work with AppleTV which is technically correct but only through the mirroring function. There doesn’t seem to be an app that you can download so that it will work directly so, it doesn’t really. The company HD app will load into Amazon FireTV but was glichy. I couldn’t get it to change channels. By that time, I had already spent an hour or so fiddling with setups and it didn’t seem as though it was going to function as I expected so I returned it to the store. It did seem to work well on the iPad with a third party app that I paid $15 for but what I was looking for was OTA streaming to my TV’s and it didn’t do that so I returned it.

Needs Improvement
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.08/24/2017 I purchased this to watch OTA TV on a TV that has no cable drop nearby. Antenna is plumbed into a cable network that functions without issues on other TVs. Here’s the outcome on different devices that SiliconDust advertises as compatible with HDHomeRun: Amazon Fire Stick Gen2 - Video freezes every 5 seconds for at least one second. - Audio lags video about 1.5 seconds. This was tested on a Fire Stick that streams 1080p HD video with no issues. There are several online reviews noting this issue. Bottom line: Unusable. Windows 7 - Receives video, but no audio. This is a known issue for which SiliconDust offers three workarounds. 1. Use an HDMI device. Sorry, does not work thru an HDMI device. 2. Reconfigure the preview application in HDHomeRun Setup applications tab. There’s no applications tab in Setup. 3. Install another audio decoder – no specific steps offered. Bottom line: HDHomeRun is not plug-n-play on Windows 7; unusable. iPhone - App actually functions as designed on the iPhone. But, why one would choose to watch TV on a phone when you’re surrounded with full-sized TVs and monitors is beyond me. (Remember, this is Wi-Fi technology which basically limits its use to inside your home.) Technical Support - Still no response 24-hours after submitting a “ticket” with very detailed explanation of issues. I’m running SiliconDust’s latest firmware edition - 20170815. Streaming Rate is 13.276 Mbps. Summary: Big promises, but technology not yet developed for consumer use.

Good HW, but caveats
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have two of these and they work great. However, SD's firmware upgrade setup is terrible. If I just try to load drivers on a new computer, it goes and upgrades the firmware without asking. AND, there is no way to downgrade firmware if the new doesn't work for you. Many have been nailed by this. The other big issue is there is no good software support. Windows MC was quite usable and passed the "wife" test. Nothing else gets there, and the SD solution requires a subscription.
