The passage of time continues to confirm the landmark achievement of Unforgiven, quite possibly a great director's finest film. Now, get closer to the legend than ever before with the 20th Anniversary Blu-ray release, featuring the newly restored masterpiece plus a commemorative book with 54 pages of exclusive insights and behind-the-scenes accounts. Winner of 4 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Director (Clint Eastwood), Supporting Actor (Gene Hackman) and Editing (Joel Cox), Unforgiven stars Eastwood and Morgan Freeman as retired outlaws who pick up their gun one last time to collect a bounty. Richard Harris is an ill-fated killer-for-hire, Hackman is a sly lawman of chilling brutality, and "Unforgiven is a classic Western for the ages" (Todd McCarthy, Variety). Special Features: Remastered Blu-ray disc Audio Commentary by Clint Eastwood biographer Richard Schickel Four Documentaries Classic Maverick Episode - Duel at Sundown Original Theatrical Trailer

4K picture not as good as expected

The 4-star rating is for the picture. The movie has been out a while and you probably already know what it's about, so I am not reviewing the movie content, but the 4k release. I bought it because I wanted the HDR and 4k goodies. However, the picture quality doesn't seem to live up to what I am used to seeing in a 4k upgrade, but reminds me of a standard blu ray release. The movie has a very dark ambient setting in many scenes, so it can be difficult to tell when watching those scenes. However, even in some of the brighter scenarios, I am left feeling like, "So, where is the 4k upgrade?" I am disappointed about the 4k release, but not the movie content. If you are swapping out your blu ray version for a 4k version, you might do better to just keep a hold of the blu ray version.

Unforgiven is a 1992 American western film written by David Webb Peoples. The film portrays William Munny, an aging outlaw and killer who takes on one more job years after he had turned to farming. A dark Western that deals frankly with the uglier aspects of violence and how complicated truths are distorted into simplistic myths about the Old West, it stars Eastwood in the lead role, with Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman and Richard Harris. Eastwood stated that the film would be his last Western for fear of repeating himself or imitating someone else's work. Could use with a newer remaster, video codec, and the audio being lossless. But it's great for now.

Seeing the movie for the first time made me get excited after hearing good things about it. It’s pretty cheesy but the acting and story line is fantastic. I noticed on some scenes the white balance would engage higher in levels than in most scenes of the movie. This was noticeable when watched with the lights. Other than that, the movie is a must have to the collection.

"Unforgiven" on Blu-ray is one of those movies that occasionally goes on sale at Best Buy, and if you're a fan of the movie, you should take advantage of it. Even though the Blu-ray release is pretty standard with previously produced special features, the movie itself is worth it. The hi-res disc quality for this visually stunning, dark film is great even if it wasn't on sale.

An incredible talent on and off the screen. Never better as a director or actor. The 4k remaster brings out some noticeable improvements, although I'll admit that other 4k remasters from that time period (The Professional) or even earlier (Die Hard) show a greater increase in resolution. But neither is as good a film.

This movie was pretty good, I enjoyed watching it. Be warned there is violence and strong language in this movie so definitely not a movie to watch with kids. If you're looking for a well written western and don't mind violence or strong language then this is the movie for you.

You can't go wrong with a western. Sadly, westerns among the younger audience is constantly waining. But if you give this great western a chance, you'll find many things to enjoy. Hackman is a fantastic antagonist in this movie and you'll for sure hope he'll get his comeuppance. Highest recommendation.

The characters have depth and brilliantly acted. Eastwood evolves as a reformed once sinister gun slinger, but resumes his former life in trying to help his family. Hackman is pure arrogant, bully and evil in his role. Destined to cross paths with Eastwood. Good story.. Intense... Great character study on a mission..

This is one of my favorite movies - and so was expecting a big improvement over the blu ray, but there is a LOT of dark scenes in this movie and for some reason the colors kept shifting between grey and black. It was very jarring - maybe my TV is setup wrong or something, but that was very distracting

As I watched unforgiving with my wife I was absolutely blown away by the story line that was great but simple. From the opening scene to the end credits my eyes were locked onto the tv. Clint Eastwood gave an incredible performance, which is on full display in 4k.

This is the most psychological western I've ever watched in my entire life. You don't have your brain glued to the television for nearly 2 1/2 hours. This movie also won several Academy Awards Including best picture. This movie is it worth buying.

Here's Clint and Gene at their best. A good story (that we!ve all seen before) but doesn't matter - it's still fun to watch. And now watching in 4K - I was there on the trail. I swear my clothes were dusty after viewing.

If you already own the blu ray I don't think buying the 4K version will be that noticeable of an uptick in video quality. Great movie though and one of my all time favorite westerns.

Incredible movie. The 4K transfer is very very good! It's cleaner and clearer than ever before, it's a worthy upgrade from previous releases. I recommend if the prices are cheaper.
