Customers are saying

Customers find value in the R3 DSP Long Range Radar and Laser Detector, particularly praising its impressive range and overall performance, which is comparable to higher-end models. Users appreciate its radar detection capabilities, accuracy, ease of use, and the inclusion of GPS for camera updates. While some mention false alarms and suggest turning off K band, the detector's size is considered reasonable.

I haven't had too much experience with radar detectors or jammers in general, but the time I've spent with the R3 has been nothing but great. It has excellent range and has already paid itself off twice. The only issue I have with it is the number of falses coming from Acura's and other cars' BSM systems. This, however, isn't unique to Uniden as almost every other radar detector has this problem.

Radar detector has great range but has a ton of false alarms. I do like the option of the mute button on the power cable. You get a lot of features at the price point.

This is the best radar detector I have ever owned and I have owned quite a few including Whistler and cobra - it detects for a long distance and has no annoying false hits - would recommend completely 100%

This the best radar detector I’ve owned. Reasonably priced. Much better than a different highly-advertised and much more expensive detector prone to many more false alarms which I returned to a different seller. This unit has good instructions. Easy to read and understand alarms. Minimal false alarms. Highly recommend!

Great product for the money. Was not the top of the line in price but has worked greatly for me. I normally drive 10 miles over speed limit but this does a great job with radar detection. Great for lower speed limit areas. Has alerted me several times when police are in the area using radar. Will not help with VASCAR

performed very well on the road. there is only one remark that it is possible for it to be very sensitive and works even when the radar works on the neighboring street. in all practice, it did not work 2 times, but there is a suspicion that the cops simply did not use the radar at that time

This is the best value radar detector available today. It is in the middle as far as price and works great for every day driving. I have used the same model in another car for 3 years without issue and when it came time to replace an older Passport, I did not hesitate to purchase this unit again,

Works well. I've been using Escort for years and first Uniden unit and I like it. Its a major upgrade from my previous one so it provides additional detections such as MRCD. While not sold as a 360 degree unit it does pick up Ka signals from behind me.

Not the best but a good unit for the price. Recommend if you don’t have 500-700 dollars for the better units. Easy to use and setup. Has notified me and helped me avoid some potential tickets.

I absolutely love this radar detector. Once I turned off K band it never has false positives. Got nailed for 4 speeding tickets in about 3 months and have gotten none since. The only thing I wish it had once directional arrows but I didn't want to spend the extra dough on the R7. I pick up cops miles away on the highway. I can go 85mph and not worry any more.

Amazing range out of this unit. If you set it right, you will get very little to no false alerts. People need to understand that this is not a cop detector. This is a radar detector so if you see a cop right in front of you but your rd is not alerting its because the office is not running his radar. I recommend checking out vortexradar on youtube to see full review, and settings, etc.

Very Accurate and gives ample time to slow down before actually seeing a police. Mainly picks up Kband and KaBand for me. Solid radar for the price have had it for about 4 months now.

This radar detector came in handy during my recent cross country road trip. Prior to purchasing this it had been quite a few years since I'd regularly run a radar detector so I had to do a good amount of research to figure out a good one in today's market. Everywhere I looked online listed this as either their number one or ranked it near the top, only below other ones that were in a much higher price bracket. The arguments made for why it deserved that number one spot were well thought out so I was sold, I bought the detector and I also bought the hardwire install kit from Uniden. (For the hardwire- I stole the power from a cigarette lighter that shut off with the car, ran the mute button up through the dash to where I had an unused hole, and ran the cord for the radar detector tucked in along the edge of my dash trim until I came out at a good spot for the plug to exit onto my dashboard. All in all, it was probably one of the easier installs I've ever done with an aftermarket piece to any car, ever.) I'll be honest, on day one of my trip, I didn't love it. It was annoying. I had so many false alerts and even though I wasn't speeding I still found myself having that knee-jerk reaction of "oh shoot" and braking or letting off the gas and slowing down that way. I would have hated to be driving behind me... luckily there wasn't a lot of traffic and no one really right behind me for the most part, but still. I tried fiddling with the settings some as I stopped for gas and food but felt like there were too many options and too much that I didn’t understand. The book had been no help, it was like reading a textbook for a subject you knew next to nothing about. I gave up and turned the volume down and the radio up. That defeated the point of having it but it was so noisy and so annoying. When I stopped that first night I did a little more reading online and found some material on what different settings meant and what settings were recommended based on everything from what parts of the country you drove in to what type of driving you primarily did. Once everything was explained in layman's terms I was able to make my own decisions on what settings to program. I've since made a few tweaks as I've driven with it but for the most part once I understood it all I was able to shut off a lot of the excess noises and narrow down the important alarms. You can customize everything on this radar detector from the alarms that go off, to the tone of said alarms, to the color of the screen, what said screen shows normally, how bright the screen is and even have it dim at a set time of the day/night. You can program it to not alarm when you are driving below a certain speed or to not alarm for red light cameras above a certain speed, like if you are on the interstate passing above surface streets. There are so many settings with so many options. So much of it meant so little to me. The best advice I can give with this purchase is to check out https://www.vortexradar.com/2017/06/how-to-program-and-set-up-your-uniden-r1-and-r3/ and do a little reading up of your own until you have a basic understanding of the multitude of choices you're presented with.
