Great, but one annoying issue on default settings

Great long range detector, excellent display screen with informative arrows. Only issue, after upgrading from the R3, the K falses are way too much, especially in the city (even in city mode and all the filters on). I had to turn K rear mute on, quite ride volume to 0, and up the K quite ride speed to 55mph before it stopped being annoying noisy on city streets. Those settings ensure it doesn't beep for K band signals if you're going under 55mph (most city streets) which are 99.9% of the time traffic sensors, blind spot monitor sensors, door sensors from stores, etc... which are not a threat.

I had high hopes for the Uniden R7, especially after reading all the glowing reviews about its range and detection accuracy. For the first week, it lived up to the hype. It was super sensitive, gave plenty of warning on Ka-band signals, and the customizable alerts and arrows were actually really useful. I thought I had finally found the radar detector that justified the premium price. But then the problems started. Out of nowhere, the unit began randomly shutting off and turning back on while I was driving. At first I thought maybe it was the power cord or the cigarette lighter socket, but after testing it in multiple vehicles with different power sources, the same issue kept happening. Sometimes it would power down and restart three or four times in the span of a short drive. Other times, it would just cut out completely until I unplugged and re-plugged it. This isn’t just a minor inconvenience but it defeats the whole purpose of having a radar detector. If I can’t rely on it to stay powered on, then it’s useless when I actually need it. On top of that, the constant on/off cycle is distracting and makes you lose confidence in the device.

    Great High-End Detector

Pros: - Disabling X and K band (to limit random blindspot monitoring detections) boosts signal identification speed significantly. - Segmenting the Ka band for your specific state also boosts your detection range to ridiculous values (miles from the officer). - Multiple mounts to help with the perfect detector placement - Arrows in conjunction with the strength gauge help to quickly orient driver to the radar location - Customizable tones for all different bands, great addition Cons: - Power cable is the coiled, springy type. If you're trying to do an invisible install, you'll have the stretch the cable out so it's smooth and straight (as opposed to a slinky) before you stuff it into your headliner and door sill weather stripping for that hidden cable look. Very minor con. Note: Be sure to google around for some setup tutorials - there's one in particular that you should read and follow immediately after you get the detector. After setting my settings similar to his, the detector was near perfect; it takes all the guesswork and experimentation out of a new detector. On the site there is also a breakdown of which Ka bands you should have enabled in your state - definitely follow this, as the less bands you have active, the better your detector will work!

This is a great detector. I've only had it a month and used it on a 1k mile road trip. It helped me shave time off my travel time by alerting me when i needed to slow down (105 mph in an 80). It hsa great range and was able to detect radars at least 1/2 mile away. The arrows were also super convenient. It was also very easy to use. I jad the Escort 360 previously and took it back because it was too complicated and it seemed to have more false alerts.

Overall, this detector shines in a number of areas- reduction of false alerts is a godsend and overall detection range is much better than my previous Uniden. The Arrows are a great feature that I didn't necessarily think that I would need but wouldn't be without...set up and customization take a bit of time but after 2 weeks it's set up well for our area and driving routes

Upgraded my escort passport 8500 with this unit. The uniden is easy to use and setup. Google more info on how other setup the radar advance options based on your state. The range is amazing front and rear range gives you a lot of time to slow down. You would have to be an idiot ignoring the warning to get caught. Tons of features, filters work great but you will need to add some additional filtering of your own. Over all fantastic product, easy to setup, easy to use and read the display. Upgrades available via the internet.

I've gone through a few radars in the last year. Starting with the Cobra Rad 450 which completely sucked. Then I got the Uniden R3 which was a huge step up and I think is the best radar detector under $400. The range on that thing was insane. I was really intrigued by the arrows on the Uniden R7 so I bit the bullet and bought one. Let me just say that this is the best radar detector I've ever seen. I am absolutely blown away by the results. Pros: - Insane Range (on long highways at least 1 mile of range. If you live in a state with flat roads without many turns then easily 3+ miles of range. My personal highest was about 4 miles of range on a straight and relatively flat highway) - Customizability (Colors, sounds, etc.) - Sturdy Mount (When I owned my R3 and rad 450 the detector would jiggle around on bumps. This one stays put) - Quiet Ride - Segmentation - 360-degree directional arrows Cons: - Noisy K band (if you turn K band on you'll get a ton of falses. However, the latest firmware update added a K block feature that gets rid of many Honda and Acura BSM falses. Having K Filter, TSF, and K block on is a must unless you want a lot of chatter) - This isn't really a con, but the range is wayyyyy to high. (There were instances when I passed a cop only for the rear antennae to keep showing Ka band even though I am well beyond 1-2 miles away from the police on a long stretch of highway) -Feels cheap (the radar detector itself is made of plastic and feels cheaper than it's competitors like the escort Max 360c, which feels heavy and more durable. The buttons on the R7 feel cheap)

    R7 - save a ticket

Bought the r3 last year, great detector. No tickets, many hidden speed traps on the i95. Just bought the r7, it is worth the extra $ to know where the trap is. Much fewer false alerts, and bsm ( blind spot monitoring) is minimized. I never upgraded firmware on the r3. Item made in Korea (well made light). The escort looks more substantial, but the r7 is cheaper vs 360c. I had the old V1, too many false detections, also passport 9500 too many false. Toss up between this and the escort 360c. Item pays for itself, 1 ticket saved is all you need.

The Only Radar Detector You Should Be Running

The number one thing you buy this detector for is range. It's the king of long-distance detection. I'm not talking about picking up a cop car right around the corner; I'm talking about getting alerts for Ka-Band radar miles down the road, way before I even crest a hill. This thing gives you so much advance warning that you have plenty of time to check your speed, making those 'instant-on' traps totally manageable.

I got the chance to use the Uniden - R7 Radar Detector. Just want to say, you should always practice safe driving habits. That being said, I'm not going to lie I was a bit more confident when I needed to speed, you know for passing purposes ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡° ). Anyways, I only was able to use this for about 3 weeks so far and only heard it go off once but the time it did detect the radar I saw the cop after about a half mile out. I wouldn't have noticed him otherwise. So far I like this thing. It has GPS feature so it knows how fast your going and it also able to use speed camera information which I don't have in my city.

Hands downs one of the best radar detectors to purchases. Yes it is pricey but the amount of money you save on ticket by police officer, speed cameras in the city and even red light cameras. Would definitely pay off those tickets and more. Definitely recommend this radar!

Excellent detector. Long range detection front and rear. Don't let the cheap plastic feel fool you - it's what's inside that matters. Software updates to the device may pose a challenge for those who are not computer savvy. You have to download the software updates to your Windows or Apple computer then use the included USB cable to transfer the updates to the detector. Setting up the radar through it's menu system is also a bit challenging. Be sure to have your owners manual close by The directional arrows are very useful to help locate the source of the radar, which is often times cars near you that use radar for their blind-spot sensors. Keep in mind the detector does not connect to the internet. It does utilize GPS to remember lockout locations and speed camera locations. The one thing I miss is a straight smart cord. The unit ships only with the coiled smart cord. When combined with the Waze maps app, the Uniden R7 is a winning combination to increase situational awareness while driving.

Within a day of picking this up and putting it in my car, I’ve picked up 3 speed traps from nearly half a mile away. I commute approximately 52 minutes one way everyday and was tired of just going the posted limit and relying on Waze. I had the R3 a few years back and loved it, this just takes it to a whole new level.

If youre looking for a radar to just throw up on your dash, this is not the one. Although this is a very capable radar detector. You just need to configure it to your preferences. Once you play around with it for a little bit, it’s easy to control. It is extremely accurate and has already helped me avoid multiple potential tickets. When used in conjunction with the Waze app, you are that much more invincible. Of course, nothing is guaranteed, so of course, continue to drive at safe speeds.

I absolutely love this radar detector. I tend to have a leadfoot and have gotten caught several times so I wanted some thing to warn me if I was entering a police radar area. This detector lets me know over a mile away when a police radar is active. And as I get closer it increases its alerts so it is easy to tell the difference between an active alert or false alert, It is quite a bit more expensive than many of the radar detectors on the market however its accuracy and efficiency make it worth every penny. You can change the color of the screen, you can change the types of alerts, it can alert silently or with varied sounds, it has a GPS setting, it lets you know your speed. And these are just a few of the various settings this radar detector has. This is a very, very good machine. I have had it a year and I honestly believe this is the best on the market.

I recently purchased the Uniden R7 Radar Detector, and I have to say, it’s been a game changer for my driving experience! The performance is outstanding; it has excellent sensitivity and picks up radar signals from a good distance, giving me plenty of warning before I encounter any speed traps. The dual antenna design is impressive, providing accurate directional alerts, which is super helpful for knowing where the radar is coming from. The display is bright and easy to read, even in direct sunlight, and the customizable settings allow me to adjust it to my preferences. I also appreciate the GPS feature, which helps filter out false alerts from stationary sources, like automatic doors and traffic sensors. The voice alerts are clear, and I love that I can also connect it to my smartphone for added features like speed camera alerts and updates. Overall, the Uniden R7 Radar Detector offers top-notch performance and reliability. If you’re looking for a high-quality radar detector that really delivers, I highly recommend it!

Why spend this much on a radar you may ask, well hypothetically speaking if you speed, you like speeding, or if u are generally just looking to know where the cops are.. this is amazing. Coming from a Uniden r3 to a r7, it’s a night and day difference, further range, better screen, louder, looks cool, and very customizable for your city’s situations. This works and I will never regret my purchase!
