Customers are saying

Customers regard the R7 Radar Detector highly for its impressive range and accurate radar detection capabilities, praising its ease of use and the helpful directional arrows. However, some users experienced a high number of false alerts and found the device to be bulky and expensive. The K band detection, while effective for some, also proved problematic for others due to false positives.

Although it is a great detector, the screen is so dim that I could not use it productively. Like the arrows, and sensitivity.

The unit comes in a nice zippered clamshell case. Upon opening it, you find the unit, power cigarette lighter cord with mute and usb jack, 2 suction cup bracket choices and a nice neoprene case for the detector. I've used it a couple of times already and it rarely goes off. That's different for me when I compare it to units I've used years ago. I didn't seem to get any or very few false detections. I live in a suburban area with close to 400k residents, so passing law enforcement is a regular occurrence for me. I have a local Cal. Highway Patrol office about 5 miles down the road as well as city and county sheriff patrols. I must say, I was surprised at how quiet it was. I did have it go off by my house on a main street that I can almost see the end of and I was unable to see the source for the detection. The directional arrow said ahead of me, but again I didn't see any law enforcement. We do have two schools at the end of that street and it was around time for the kids to head home, so maybe they were parked in the lot just off the street. I turned into my neighborhood and it immediately stopped. The directional arrows on the display are great. No longer am I looking forward, left and right and in each mirror trying to locate the source. I just have to slow down (if need be, lol) and look in the direction the detector is telling me to. I find myself likely the GPS/MPH display on the unit. For whatever reason, it tends to make me drive the speed limit better than my actual speedometer. Also the inset display works for me with the intense So. Cal. sun. I'm able to read the display just fine. If I have one gripe, it's the mounts. The single suction cup works great, but I have enough stuff attached to my windshield. I have a front camera glued behind the rear view mirror and a toll road monitor behind it. This month the toll road company is sending out stickers and doing away with the large monitor, so that may work out for me. If not, I'll be investing in a 3rd party mount that attaches to the mirror itself. I hate to have this expensive detector and a few hundred dollar camera at the top of the windshield. Anyone looking in that knows there value will most likely bust out some glass and run off with both. Having it solidly mounted would slow them down a bit and hopefully leave the car be. As for now, I mount it when driving and store it in the case and glove box when the car is unattended. Once the unit has been out on the market for a bit, I'm sure other mount options will become available. I'll check Uniden, Best Buy and other outlets for ideas. On a final note, radar detectors are legal in California, but not mounted on windshields. Just another reason I'l like a rear view mount. I would definitely recommend the unit to others, albeit the cost of entry is a bit on the high side. If it saves you one moving violation, it will most likely pay for itself...at least in California!

I bought this for a road trip and had an R3 in my other car so I was really excited about this one. However, this was lacking seriously. It was always going off the bsm filtering was nonexistent, I drove by 4 speedtraps and it never made a sound. I returned it and was very disappointed.

My review of Best Buy is FIVE STARS. Unfortunately uniden s R7 is absolutely worthless. Exchanged it twice cause unit GPS does not lock up which renders product dangerously ineffective. Called uniden and they said you must upload latest firmware or it does not work…REALLY? So a brand new $500 unit must be upgraded. I tried to upload but unfortunately I’m not a nuclear physicist. Uniden said I could send it to them for $60.00 and they would update. Buy the escort max 360, it’s 10x better at same price. Would have given product 0 stars but it would not let me

    Uniden R7 Radar Detector

I've always wanted to get a radar detector and now I have one. I'm not that up on all the knowledge of the best radar detectors on the market as I've not really seen one since my younger days (my uncle used to always have one). So I took this R7 out for a spin this past weekend and I must say things have certainly advanced in the industry of radar detectors. In my 2 day run of testing out this unit, I was amazed with how accurate it reads and the long range at which it captures the signals. The display is big and bold numbers as well as the arrows. I also like that amongst the many different settings in the menu you can go in and change the colors on the display info. Anyone looking for a great device should consider the Uniden R7, unless the price is a bit much for you. Tons of customization at your finger tips. Side Note: Please know your state laws regarding radar detectors.

Did not get to open the product until 25 days after receiving. Apparently best buy has a 15 day return window (how does that not violate state laws?). Detector does not work and apparently it is the cord. I will try dealing witht he manufacturer. My adivce is do not buy something like this from best buy.

    Best radar on the market

This is the best windshield mounted radar on the market as far as functionality and performance. If your on the fence about it, just get it. This radar has directional capabilities through the use of arrows. The arrows indicate the direction the radar signal is originating from. The benefit here is that one can quickly determine if the radar source is in front of, behind, or to the sides of their vehicle. This is something that, once experienced, is hard to live without. There are other detectors that offer similar range / sensitivity but they will leave you guessing as to where the radar truly is. For the benefit of the arrows alone it is worth the extra expense to get the R7. The range is outstanding and the display can show up to 4 independent sources of radar simultaneously. This is helpful in determining if there is more than one radar source in an area that may normally have a false alert. The built in GPS functionality allows you to mark known false alert areas so the radar will not go off when driving by the same source or radar. Think automatic doors that may set off a detector, those can be locked out and are location specific. I have not had any issues with blind spot detectors on passing cars setting off the detector. Uniden has exceptional filtering capability in their detectors for this. Some other brands of detector or lower piced / older models will give false alerts when a blind spot detection equipped vehicle is nearby. The R7 largely doesn't have this issue. Uniden also rolls out firmware updates that truly improve the function of the detector and provide exceptional support if needed.
