The Uniden R-7 Radar Detector Rocks! So much better than my 3 yr old detector (Not Uniden). I ran both side by side a few days and the R7 consistently out performed my old detector. The R7 is twice as sensitive in picking up Ka band radars. Customizing the bands for sensitivity is a great feature and knocks out false alarms that had my old unit screaming. Very sharp display along with directional arrows indicating the radars direction is a big plus! Looking forward to many years of flawless operation. Highly recommend this to anyone serious about detecting radars at insane distances.

This radar detector is fantastic. A little customizing of the settings to hone in on what the police are using may be needed. I recommend the Vortex Radar forums for an idea of the proper settings for your area. I do get false positives on the K band every now and then, but that's fine. There are settings to alert only when going a specific speed and filters to ignore K band alerts coming from blind spot detection on nearby cars. Firmware updates are coming frequently. Don't forget to update your radar every now and then to keep it up to spec. After a few months of use, I have fine tuned my city and highway profiles to positively alert me to danger! It's expensive, but if you have a lead foot like me... it'll pay for itself.

If you wants alerts from the next galaxy this unit is the one to get.
I admit it feels pretty cheap and plastic but the range and alerts are second to none.
I came to the R7 from a ValentineOne Gen1. It was a great detector but really noisy alerting to every door opener I drove by.
The R7 does that too, from stores much farther away than the V1......but the R7 has GPS built in and the alert settings can be set to be quiet at slower speeds and you can mark problem locations to keep them quiet.
My only complaint if there is one, the support and information about the firmware upgrades to the unit is very poor and Uniden makes lots of things besides Radar Detectors so I am not sure how much effort they want to put into it after the sell.
If you need great range and great customizable alerts this unit is great!

I purchased this (R7) and was able to test it from my drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco and back. It probably saved me from one or two tickets as I had ample time to slow.
The screen is easy to read and the information seems very accurate. In California, I think the law states one can not mount anything except a GPS device on the lower left corner of your windshield. Thus I purchased a sticky rubber mat to place on my dash that kept the detector from moving. I thought this might hinder the performance but it seems to work just fine.
I tried the Escort Max 360c as well. Because the heat vents are on the bottom of that unit, I was afraid it might overheat on longer drives. I think the 360c gave fewer false alerts but the R7 is easier to read and it save me from two potential tickets which probably paid for the unit on the first day of use.

The sensitivity for KA is pretty darn good. The directional arrows are very accurate also and that was a main feature I was looking for with the upgrade. I have to say with the right setting it's a quiet detector, which is good. I don't think it's a case of too quiet and missing alerts. Not many blind spot detection false alerts with K left on with filtering and 30% on. I have to say the firmware updating loses a star due to the need to reset to factory settings and the need to set it up again. Not a major issue but at this price point it should be update and ready to go. Also there there should be wifi to update the firmware. Again, at this price point as it being up there as the most expensive detectors. The build quality is fine but it's not one I'd drop if you can avoid it. Buttons also could have been placed on the face on the right side for easy access. Again, a nitpick but feedback is the best for improvement suggestions. Without customer they don't exist. I think there are still other lower priced options that will serve many well, especially if you're not in an area with lots of threats. You have to take that into consideration as well, Your commute and is spending $600 worth it. One ticket can make it worth it.

It detects radar/lasers ahead of time. It vices you plenty of time to slow down. You wont get a better radar derector for the price i got this Uniden R7 at. Best Buy had a soexial several weeks ago, that was nearly $200 off. I paid $420 for this $600-$700 detector. Well worth the price!

The Uniden R7 is a high-performance radar detector with excellent range, directional alerts, and advanced filtering. It’s ideal for serious drivers but may be pricey and complex for casual users.

I have had 4 radar detectors over the years, and I think this is one of my favorites. The settings are very in depth so it was a bit difficult to figure it out. Had to search some youtubes to learn it all and set it up.
It is SUPER sensitive, and the arrows are great. When driving on a long open freeway, it is great. When driving locally, it beeps a LOT. I love the speed based feature where you can silence the unit when driving under a specified speed. If it didnt have that, I would not have kept this.
I liked it so much, I bought 3 more for my other cars.

I have had many radar detectors over the years. Bought this on sale based on online reviews. This thing is a game changer. Half or less alerts in town due to GPS memory. The front, side, or rear detection keeps me alert of smokey sneaking up behind me. Hard wired in myself and that kit is well worth it.

I'm glad I don't speed right??? If I had been this thing would have saved me from 4 tickets on the way back from Miami, he he. That covered the ridiculous cost of this item in one trip. Not so costly after all, hmm. Everyone that was on that trip is calling me to borrow this thing when they go on their trips and it is currently on it's way to Tampa now...

The radar is a great choice. Im still getting used to it since Ive used it for a bit over a week. This radar is packed with features and very reliable. Its reliability and long range are definitely a plus. The cons are the annoying false alarms. They're constant. Still working on figuring this thing out. Overall, I enjoy using this radar detector and definitely a great value for the money.

It's been over 20 years since I've had a radar detector! This one has amazing range!! My biggest complaints about radar detectors back in the day was that you had no idea where the signal was coming from! This alleviates that.
My only complaint is that K band gets set off by BSM (Blind Spot Monitors) that a lot of cars has now a days! You can turn it off, but I'm in a state that uses K band regularly, so I keep it on. I just don't pay attention to it on the highway. Did I mention it has phenomenal range!!???!!

I have owned a Uniden LRD 950 and a Valentine One and I have to say the Uniden R7 is the best detector I have owned. The performance is outstanding, the display can get very bright, and the ease of use is a big attraction here. Definitely recommend this for any radar detector enthusiast or any newcomers!

Love this detector! Yes, it is NOT the R8, but for the money and bang for buck value, this is more than capable of you're not needing all of the new features of R8. Yes, it takes a little getting used to to get it configured for your personal use, but once you get it set, it's golden. Great range! Saved me soooooo many times.

Extremely sensitive. I get warnings from as far as 1 2 miles away. I do live in the Delta and the land is very flat with the road having long , long straight sections. This is probably why I have such early warnings but, it still gives me great notice when I travel through the rolling hills heading west to Shreveport. All in all a very good unit. One of the best I have used.

This radar detector is amazing. It notifies you very very early vs my other radar detector. This part is not a Best Buy issue, but Uniden’s update method is not the best, but it’s manageable and can be done with YouTube and searching forums for help and tips. Nice you get it updated the first time, every other time s easier. And this radar detectors software updates can be rolled back if there is a version you like better. Oh, be sure to clean your front window with alcohol and the suction cups too before applying. Let dry and tick them on for a better suction cup sticky method. If you don’t, you find the radar detector dangling from the power cord within a few days....your experience may be different than mine.

Really good radar. I wish it was better at picking up laser guns but that's about the only Con it has in my opinion. I was between this and the Valentine one ver 2 and went with this since its plug and play with its own GPS. Has definitely saved me so many times, so it has payed itself off already.
