This is my second R8 purchase in a year and this one crapped out after three months. Screen went completely dark and volume dropped in half while driving. Contacted Uniden support and was told to return unit to them. Cost me $50 to return detector which was randomly returned with NO type of communication about two weeks later. A note from the repair dept stated the screen was "turned off" and set to "dark mode". If that's the case, the unit has the ability to do this and turn the volume down "ALL BY ITSELF" and also Uniden support has "NO IDEA HOW TO TURN IT BACK ON AGAIN" or that this is "EVEN A THING" or "A FEATURE". Since I'm product bashing, I bought these R8's to replace three Escort MAX360 which the screens become so dim after two years you can't see them even at night, they will cost $150 each plus shipping to repair. Uniden R8 is not a reliable product, their support is apparently clueless and worthless, Escort is the same and I think both are junk. I have a Valentine V1 probably 20-25 years old still works with about the same range and arrows respond much faster than these new units. Time to give the lower tech Valentine V2 a try. That said, the R8 when it works has much better range than the 360 or V1 but needs help filtering K band (too sensitive) The V1 has slightly better range than the 360, but the arrow response is much faster than both(just old tech with limited filtering). The 360 is filtered too heavily and can ignore radar sources that should be alerted.

I 1st bought the Escort Redline 360c and notice it was very laggy and the signal meter was useless on the Redline, everything is full signal even when the radar is far away, I just don't know what I pass the radar source. So I switch to this Uniden R8 and I can tell you its a way better detector. Much faster repsonse and the signal meter fades up as you get closer to the source gives you penlty of time knowing how far you are from the radar source.
