This R8 is expensive because of a few short falls. Fully customizable. The Phone app is nice thought, although very basic. So, i docked a star on value. The app is cheap. The PC software is elaborate in expert mode. If you are a basic user incredibly simple.
The distance this thing can cover is really nice.
1 problem though i had to by a diffent windshield mount for my Jeep Rubicon. The jeep wimdow is darn near vertical. So, when i tried either mount with the kit, the unit was touching the windshield and still not level... nowhere near level. So i had to buy another albeit longer mount to accommodate the vertical windshield.
Oh, and a 1 year warranty. Not a wow factor.

Has saved me several times from getting a ticket. Tons of features and easy to use. I also bought a hard wire kit and installed in my truck, works great. I use this between two vehicles and it transports very well.

I had an older radar detector that gave me false alerts due to anti-collision radars and other things like automatic door openers at various stores. This detector can be set up to recognize these falses and ignore them. Very accurate and easy to use. While a bit pricey, it is an excellent piece of equipment and much cheaper than a ticket in the long run.

I have used this radar detector daily for the last 6 months and am very happy with this product.
I was skeptical whether this radar detector would be worth the money, as it was twice as expensive as the three previous detectors I had owned over the last 15 years. I was also concerned that it would be too bulky since I drive a smaller sedan where windshield space is at a premium.
The increased size of this detector turned out to be no big deal and the increased features are worth the additional bulk and price.
The most important features are: 1) directional arrows; 2) automated GPS-linked mute memory.
1) Directional Arrows:
The directional arrows are a game changer. With a quick glance, you know where the signal is coming from (the arrow is large and visible).
There is peace of mind knowing that you have driven past the source, particularly when driving on major interstates where there is a lot of traffic.
2) Automated GPS-linked Mute Memory:
There are plenty of stationary radar sources that I pass every day that do not come from police radar. The automated GPS-linked mute memory feature acknowledges the incoming radar signals from airport radar or gas stations but will begin to automatically mute the audible alarm if this is a stationary radar signal frequency that you pass every day on that route.
This eliminates the false alarms I used to get all the time with my previous radar detectors. Now, the only audible alarms that I receive are from legitimate radar sources (i.e., police radar signal from a temporary speed trap).
I hope this review helps people who may be on the fence about this product. I normally do not take the time to write reviews, but I think this product is worth the price.

Bought thjs r8 for my ither vehicle. I decided to start tinkering with the settings and realized i like this even more. If you ride with this thing and capture the obnoxious k bands that are generating you can virtually make them all disappear from false alerts. I used the vortex settings as a starting point and then after a couple lf drives that gave me a good variance of bands on the road. I was able to adjust the kband settings to about 95% block. One thing i do is filter to "mute" those bands so that they pop up but are full muted, this allows me to get some awareness just in case. If you want to fully block the pop up, set your setting to "max" and that will stop the visual notification regardless of level. Thats how you fully block all false alerts. The KA band is really accurate and i dont consider it false since its the top rated band in use by law enforcement. What i will add just for comparison is i have an R4 and rode them side by side, the r4 is about more sensitive and picked up notification about 20yards before the r8 did when driving. But to me the difference is the r4 doesnt know where the radar is so youd spend 20yards looking for the source anyway. The range on the r4 feels like its 2.1miles for sure and id say the r8 is maybe 1.8mi but its still great. The customization and the Rtach app works good for me. It could use some refinement but im not using my cell phone for much other than getting to the settings in real time. I would say thjs radar is not "novice" friendly, youll have to be willing to make adjustments to it for best use, not just plug it in and go.

Exactly what I wanted

This ended up being exactly what I wanted and has worked flawlessly for me. I actually try not to speed that much and mostly wanted it for highway/interstate since I take a lot of backroads to help remind me to slow down before I get a ticket (I take a lot of back roads with frequent turns and speed changes). Every speeding ticket I've gotten is in a transition zone I didn't notice and this has already helped me avoid at least 1 or 2 tickets in the month I've owned it! I've also noticed that on the highway it seems like it picks up radars from a mile or two away. The auto mute function is very handy in the city too. Overall I would highly recommend it to anyone if you don't mind the cost!

I've owned this radar detector for over a year now and can say without a doubt, it was one of the best options on the market today. The only real competition is the Escort 360c Redline that costs $100 more. Uniden is dedicated to the continued updates to the unit firmware, thereby enhancing and improving upon the unit's capabilities to adjust to newer technologies law enforcement are using to catch speeding drivers. Recently, Uniden added an all new smart phone app that provides similar functions as the Escort app. Most folks don't even know the R8 comes with bluetooth capability that allows for you to pair your smart phone with the R8. This allows for live monitoring of the different simultaneous radar alerts in your vicinity as well as use of a map function that shares locations of police radar locations shared by other R8 users within your area. Needless to say, use of the new Uniden R8 app is essential if you want to get the most out of your detector while taking advanatage of the large network of fellow R8 owners. I of course do not condone excessive, illegal speeding while operating a motorized vehicle. But, crap happens and we may not be paying attention to our speed and in the worst situation we get caught speeding when we didn't even know we were. The Uniden R8 comes to the rescue! It has options to provide you overspeed warning indictations, both visual and audio, giving you time to take corrective actions. My R8 has saved me from dozens of speeding tickets this way. I hope it helps you as well. Make the right choice and get the R8...and don't forget to update the firmware after you have the unit in hand by downloading the firmware update app on Uniden's website, and don't forget to download the Uniden R8 app onto your smart phone!

Uniden R8 Radar Detector Review

The Uniden R8 is hands down one of the best radar detectors I’ve used. Its range is impressive, alerting me well ahead of time on highways and in the city. The GPS lockout feature is a game-changer, filtering out false alerts from common sources like automatic doors. It’s also great at avoiding interference from car safety systems.
The interface is simple and easy to use, and the display is bright and readable. While it’s on the pricier side, its performance and reliability make it totally worth it.

Unit works perfect. Has the longest range out of any radar i have used. Love how this one stores certain stationary signals. Coming from an escort 360 it does make more noise than im used to. Thinking mainly just from how long range dectection it has. Would definitely recommend/buy again

This had distance and is very accurate and quite! Much faster than the Escort Redline and for less $! Watch the review on Vortexradar because this guy is the expert! Money well spent and mounted it under the rear view mirror with a wire tap.

I have owned a number of red detectors over the years, and this one is by far away the most sensitive. I also like the different tones and the auto muting for the alarms. The ability to mute warnings that are triggered by non-radar units, such as door, openers, etc. is a nice feature and the fact that it remembers them by GPS location is great. The largest suction cup keeps it securely mounted to the windshield. I highly recommend this radar detector even though it is a bit pricey, I think it’s worth the money.

I like it! For the most part it is quiet. I have passed police, and the radar remained silent and I’ve also passed police where the Ka or K band went off. I really like that it shows which direction the radar is coming from. That is very helpful. Overall 5 out of 5!

Radar is amazing. Bought on sale. Picks up KA band from a greater distance than a cheaper model. Well worth the extra money. Display is very nice.
You can change the settings how you want, you can mute the constant K bands if it doesn't auto mute them 1st. Love the direction arrows especially when its coming from behind. I previously had a Radenso before and i really loved it but the uniden is better with the direction arrows. Downside...Bigger and more bulky.

The Uniden R8 Radar Detector is one of the top-rated radar detectors in its category, offering a range of impressive features. Here's an overview of the pros and cons based on various reviews:
Pros:
Long Range Detection: The R8 offers exceptional long-range radar and laser detection. Many users have reported that it picks up radar signals from far distances, which gives drivers more time to react.
Dual Antenna System: The R8 comes equipped with dual antennas (front and rear), allowing it to offer superior directional awareness. This helps detect radar signals not just from the front but also from the rear, providing comprehensive coverage.
Multicolor OLED Display: The radar detector has a high-quality, easy-to-read OLED display. It shows multiple pieces of useful information at once, such as radar band, signal strength, and the mode of operation (Highway, City, or Auto). The multicolor feature also helps differentiate signal sources more easily.

I own multiple RD’s including the coveted R7 with custom firmware. I forgot my RD when i rented a car for vacation and picked this up as a quick fix and was it ever worth the money. If you want a ridiculously long range radar but are intimidated by high end RD setups id say get the R8 with rhe R8 buddy app and adjust ypur features there as it is simple enough and you’ll be going in seconds. Its bot quite as simple as say a Max 360 but it definitely outperforms a 360c. High recommended if you aren’t interested in custom firmware like an R7 but want an extensive feature set for a long range detector. KA-pop on this thing is phenomenal

This device is easy to use. It automatically starts "learning" as you use it. It remembers and automatically mutes certain useless alerts like ones from truck stops or other kband alerts. It also warns you when coming up to red light photo cameras. It will have paid for itself in no time with the amount of tickets it will save me from receiving.
