bought this radar detector to use on my trip to Colorado. Let me tell you this is probably the best radar detector I have ever used. Sensitivity settings are excellent and the distance it detects is superb - it does so quickly too so that you know what's around. There is an auto setting for city driving that lowers the sensitivity to keep it detecting sensors at stores. I highly recommend this detector - it looks good - comes with a quality windshield mount - and works like a charm.

I have used this radar detector daily for the last 6 months and am very happy with this product. I was skeptical whether this radar detector would be worth the money, as it was twice as expensive as the three previous detectors I had owned over the last 15 years. I was also concerned that it would be too bulky since I drive a smaller sedan where windshield space is at a premium. The increased size of this detector turned out to be no big deal and the increased features are worth the additional bulk and price. The most important features are: 1) directional arrows; 2) automated GPS-linked mute memory. 1) Directional Arrows: The directional arrows are a game changer. With a quick glance, you know where the signal is coming from (the arrow is large and visible). There is peace of mind knowing that you have driven past the source, particularly when driving on major interstates where there is a lot of traffic. 2) Automated GPS-linked Mute Memory: There are plenty of stationary radar sources that I pass every day that do not come from police radar. The automated GPS-linked mute memory feature acknowledges the incoming radar signals from airport radar or gas stations but will begin to automatically mute the audible alarm if this is a stationary radar signal frequency that you pass every day on that route. This eliminates the false alarms I used to get all the time with my previous radar detectors. Now, the only audible alarms that I receive are from legitimate radar sources (i.e., police radar signal from a temporary speed trap). I hope this review helps people who may be on the fence about this product. I normally do not take the time to write reviews, but I think this product is worth the price.

this is the best radar on the market. I've had many others such as the escort, the r3, the r4 and now this. I love having the app to use, the directional radars, and the overall modern look. I travel a lot for work, and love having fun on backroads on the weekends, and this has saved me numerous times and will continue doing so.

This model does not have WiFi. But it’s not a deal breaker for me since I can just do firmware upgrades by connecting the radar detector to my laptop via usb. It pairs via Bluetooth very well to the R8 companion app. For recommended custom settings, check out the radar guy. Passport/valentine one use to be the best, now uniden is.

Has saved me several times from getting a ticket. Tons of features and easy to use. I also bought a hard wire kit and installed in my truck, works great. I use this between two vehicles and it transports very well.

Extremely high performer. I purchased another one it ended up missing after my wife took a trip probably left the door unlocked so I bought another one

Love the radar looks and quality are amazing!! And the range of detection is outstanding it will start going off and then you drive way ahead and the cop with be there waiting. It truly is the best detector on the market

Excellent detector. Does a good job of weeding out the junk and detects radar signals from a good distance away. Highly customizable for your driving habits/area. I was able to purchase an aftermarket Cable to wire it into my review mirror for a very clean installation.

I use this and Waze while driving. I normally dislike radar detectors due to the false alerts and loud sounds they make. The R8 won my heart when I could mute via GPS location to avoid false alerts forever. I also love the fact I can plug it into my computer to do my settings because there are just so many, plus you can share your settings file with others!

Works great. Expensive for what it is. Use a Uniden R7 in my other vehicles and my toy exotic car has the R8. R8 has more range but if you're on a budget R7 is 90% of this detector for 1/3rd of the money. If money's no object and don't want a hardwired system this is it.

I’ve owned atleast 6 radar detectors (that i can remember) over the last 10 years and this beats them all without a doubt. The only other radar that can compete with it, is its younger brother-the R7. I drive roughly 2500 miles per week and i don’t trust any other detector to keep me safe from a sneaky cop. This thing literally picks them up 10-15 miles away sometimes, depending on the terrain/obstacles between us. Theres been times where i thought i was getting false alerts because i was so far away from the cop when i got the initial alert. Gives you plenty of time to get yourself in check. Definitely pricey, but a truly remarkable radar detector

Never owned a radar dectector in the past. Bought this when i picked up my new car. I drove back to MA from DC, and got to test this out drving up I-95. Very straight forward to operate the unit ,and the display makes it very easy to decipher the direction/type of alert. Most alerts were detected well ahead of time and the direction arrows were quite accurate. Very happy with this purchase.

best radar detector iv ever had,love this thing,auto mute is sweet and it picks up radar a good 4-5 miles away and it has saved me more than a few times so its more than paid for itself.

As a radar detector…this is a cut above the competition really. It’s a little confusing on how to update the device firmware and GPS DB the first time, but I was able to on my first try. This is the slightly older version that doesn’t support the Uniden App, but I use the R8 Companion app and it is perfect. All four directional observability at it’s finest, sadly quality is not cheap.

Great detector, great range. The memory function is great and works well. Honestly no complaints after the first month of use. It's just a bit expensive is all.

If like to get somewhere a little faster than the daily cruiser. You'll need some coverage, sincere someone will be looking out for you! This does well all round for a peace of mind. Exceptional range! A bit pricey! No over the air updates.

Works great. Has definitely done its job so far. Great videoa on youtube to set it up with not many false alerts. Took a long road trip 17 hours and it did not miss a patrol!

The display is beautiful and you can easily read it in any lighting. The mount that comes with the detector is perfect. The hard and soft carrying cases are excellent as well. It auto mutes areas where it picks up false readings (automatic sliding doors, motion detectors, etc). It detects radar way before I ever see police. Most of the time so much so that I think it’s a false alert then a police car will crest the hill I’m approaching. Stop looking and buy this radar detector. This is THE radar detector.

It’s too good. Im detecting automatic doors and Radar Speed signs. If only the Police turned their Radars on, I would be able to detect them too. For me it is a confidence booster when you drive a red sports car.

Detection range is ridiculous across all bands and the arrows are like a backup camera. Once you have the arrows and the second rear-facing horn you can't go back to the way it was. Bluetooth functionality has been enabled with a recent firmware update and this can connect to your phone to pair with apps to aid in detection. The only downside are K band vehicle BSM falses - which are ridiculous in crowded cities. This is in City mode with all filtering enabled as well. There are muting functions to help with this and GPS auto lockouts tend to auto lockout K band falses across the entire city over time. I leave auto lockouts enabled although some might find auto locking out an entire city might be overkill and do harm than good. To each their own though.
