Nice but Flawed for Pencil Note Taking

Initially, I liked the case better than the Logitech Keyboard case (too thick) for the 10.5. I am currently using a blend of the 2. For normal, carry around to meetings (using pencil to take notes), I just have the UAG case. When I want to do heavy typing (like I am currently, I attach the Logitech keyboard to the IPad and start typing. (The keyboard still attaches and works great. As such, here are my thoughts on this case by itself. PROs: Feel - 5 Nice feel with a great grip. I know that my chances of dropping this is minimal. Sometimes, I need to put under arm while I use both hands, and it stays put. I will hold it while walking and if I bump my arm against a wall, door, etc, it is not easy to let go. Logitech (and I assume Apple's) keyboard still attaches if needed for extended typing. Design - 1 or 5 depending on use. 1 - Laying flat on Desk: Note taking. Using the pencil heavily for taking notes where you lay this case on a flat surface. The pencil securing clip causes the back part to be unbalanced. As such, when taking note, your palm can lift up, then touch the IPad again and it impacts the way the note taking apps work. You bring up extra menus which slow down note taking. I had to put some "feet" that I picked up at Home Depot on select spots to prevent this. If UAG could find a way to make the pencil holder thinner so that the case can lay flat in a future version, that would be AWESOME! I give it a 5 if you just hold it in your hand and view web, draw with one hand while holding with other hand, or lying in bed watching videos. I do like that the IPad goes to sleep when closing the lid and the magnetic flap securing strap. It is easy to just swing the lid close and the flap swings around and magnetically secures the lid closed. Since I am a heavy note taker, the unbalanced issue is a deal breaking. I just started using the IPad for taking notes and did not realize what was causing me to have pop up menus (since I had not used Note Taking Apps before) when I was taking notes. It was too late to return it to Best Buy due to the time lag between time of purchase and this discovery. I will give it to family/friend if they are in need of such a case for their particular use.

After looking at exhaustive reviews on YouTube and on the BB website on this case, I'm glad I invested in UA's Metropolis Case for the iPad Pro 10.5!!! Not only does it work and fit well with the Smart Keyboard and have a place for my Apple Pencil, it provides the proper coverage and protection without adding weight to the tablet!! In spite of the $59 price tag the Metropolis is a worthy investment for your new piece of kit! Smart Keyboard owners will appreciate the flexibility this case allows for keyboard use, replacing the provided Metropolis cover with the Smart Keyboard. Fits perfectly over the screen, either choice of Smart Cover provides perfect coverage and protection. For times when you won't require your Smart Keyboard, the metropolis cover adds additional protection for the Apple Pencil with a magnetic strap that wraps around the clip that keeps the pencil in place. So far I haven't had any issues with the pencil falling out of its clip & remains in place when using the Smart Keyboard cover option. The UA Metropolis is pricey given the current limited availability of iPad Pro cases on the market, but nonetheless a highly recommended investment whether you own a Smart Keyboard case or not. Just swap the covers if you want to bring along the Smart Keyboard option and you're good to go! What I love most about this case is that even with the Smart Keyboard it doesn't feel heavy in my backpack! Peace of mind to protect the back and coverage for your screen without adding bulk! If you've been on the fence like I have about buying this case and you're looking for a case with additional protection front and back with an option to use your Apple Smart Keyboard cover & bring along your Apple Pencil, the Urban Armor Metropolis is a perfect fit!

    Nice, but no typing angle

I just purchased my iPad Pro 10.5" and the case options are pretty slim right now. Surprised that Apple has not released a silicone back for this model as I love it on my 12.9" iPad Pro. After looking at all the offerings at Best Buy, the UAG stood out. It has a pretty dramatic look and offers great protection and I like the thought put into the Apple Pencil holder - particularly the way the magnetic strap loops over it to give extra security. I am not sure if I will go with the Apple Smart Keyboard just yet but I normally like typing on the onscreen software keyboard. With the Apple Smart cover, the angle is perfect for typing but I was very surprised to see that the UAG has literally no typing angle at all! Sure, you can have the steeper viewing angles or you can lay it flat but that's no good on the lap. You can also fold up all the panels in sort of a mess to tuck under the top edge but it is so springy and wobbly, typing is difficult. Not at all stable like the Apple Smart Cover. Overall, it is surprising for all the thought put into the details of this case, UAG failed to design a simple way to angle this case for typing. I have looked at their website and all over online to see if I am missing something or some way it is supposed to be used this way and there is nothing I can find. If you want just good protection but limited functionality then this case is great but if you want to use the on-screen keyboard you need to find something else. Like I am looking for sill.

The main reason I chose this case was the secure pencil holder that was attached directly to the case. My fear of losing the pencil made me want to have a case that lets the pencil be within eyeshot at all times. In terms of protection this case does its job, I suppose. Lucky me I haven't dropped it, but having paired it up with a nice screen protector from amazon (amFIlm, I recommend it) I would be extremely surprised if any harm came from a drop. There are less bulky cases for those that need some compromise to keep that beautiful sleek look that the ipad pro is famous for. This case definitely screams rugged. However, if you want to protect your investment I could find no better case that integrates the apple pencil so well while protecting the ipad. A pro of this case you can take the "flap" it comes with off and use an apple smart cover or keyboard instead while using the body casing. This is a great feature if you want a case that can hold the pencil and use a keyboard (although the logi logitech keyboard case will achieve the same for much cheaper, but maybe its not cool enough for you). A con of this case is when the cover is stuffed behind the case you're ipad is going to feel much bulkier. Again, this case is for those that value some real protection. In my opinion, if you do not care about such things just get a smart cover or a leather sleeve from apple, but if you ever fear dropping your ipad I would not get any other case.

I bought this case along with the Apple Keyboard cover as the photos on the sales page indicated this case works with the keyboard. While it does work with it, you have to disassemble part of the case to do this by snapping off a portion of the case. I found that it was a lot harder than I expected to put this back together. From the limited use of a couple of days, it leads me to believe this case is just too much hassle if you want to use the keyboard with your iPad Pro. It is also a lot heavier than I thought it would be. It feels like the weight of the iPad doubles when you add this. I have decided to return this and just go with the Apple keyboard cover and a third party silicone back. Much easier to use the keyboard when you want along with it not weighing twice as much as the iPad. It also gives me a great grip on the iPad so that I don't think it will slip out of my hand. If you want a beast of a device to mainly protect your iPad, this is it. But if you want the ease of functionality that you can gain with the keyboard, look elsewhere. Unfortunately for me, this was not the case I was looking for.

I am picky when it comes to putting a case on my devices. I like something that is nice looking, but still provides decent protection. This case fits the bill perfectly. It is not as bulky as it appears in the photos, which I consider to be a very good thing. Both the back and front of the case are made out of the same TPU type material, which gives the case a premium feel while holding it. It is also one of the only cases I have seen that the lips cover/protect the chamfered edge around the front edge of the iPad. It fits perfectly to the very edge of the screen, so it still works (doesn’t interfere) with my tempered glass screen protector. The front cover easily snaps off for use with the Apple Smart Keyboard. The cutout on the side of the back cover is the perfect size for it, and doesn’t give any issues with connecting or propping up the case on the Smart Keyboard. If you’re looking for a rugged-style case that still looks professional and works with the Smart Keyboard, I definitely recommend this one.

This is my second iPad. My original four year old iPad was great nothing wrong with it and I had even bought a hard plastic 360 folio case to protect it. Then it got dropped and the screen shattered. Very sad day! So I went back to BestBuy and got a 2017 iPad Pro and Smart keyboard, but I really wanted better jump protection and a good gripping surf. The sales guru looked at me showed me the Urban Armor Gear folio. This was not like other folio I had been looking at. It was not made of plastic but some kind of rubber with extra protection on the corners and had a great gripping surface. Also, he pointed out that a lot of the older folio cases were not Smart keyboard compatible, meaning you would have to take the iPad out of the folio case to attach the Smart keyboard. This folio was designed to leave the Smart keyboard attached. Don't get a folio case without testing that you still connection the Smart keyboard and talk to the sales gurus about customer experiences. I have been using the Urban Armor Gear folio for about a month and have been very happy.

I bought this to go with my new 10.5" iPad Pro, since there aren't many options available yet. At first I thought it might be a little bulky and clunky but after a couple days it turns out to be just the opposite, the iPad Pro is so thin that it can be a little hard to hold without a good case and this one gives it a nice grip, plus the material it's made of, so I feel confident carrying my iPad around. The Apple Pencil holder is great also and I like the way the closing tab goes over it for a little extra security. The only gripe I have is that it does not have a very good typing angle, and I type a lot on my iPad! The front cover part has a folding crease but I cannot figure out how to use it for any constructive purpose. You 'can' sort of cold it backwards under the back of the case to use in typing position but it's unstable and slips out. Unless I am missing something, this is a missing feature but not a deal breaker. This is a great case, not too expensive ( when compared to the Apple options) and has a nice, modern techie look. Get it!

    Versatile Case

This is perhaps one of the most versatile cases available for the new iPad Pro. One can use it with the front/back cover on, remove the front cover and only use the back cover, or even remove the front cover and replace it with an Apple Smart Cover or Smart Keyboard. To make it even better, the cover has a place to hold the Apple Pencil fairly securely. I do find that having the holder for the Apple Pencil can make it hard to play some games when holding the iPad vertically, especially if the Pencil is attached; but, it's not a big deal when using it horizontally or on a flat surface. The case can also become a bit bulky when used with the Smart Keyboard - almost as heavy as some Chromebooks (but still a bit thinner). My only major complain is more design related - the front cover has a shiny UAG logo on the front, and on the back strap, when removed, only the plain and boring UAG logo on the back cover remains. I know some people hate logos; but, I like them, so which that the UAG logo on the back cover were shiny black or silver.

I have had several compliments on the look of this case. Its very grippy and feels secure when I carry it. The edges come up on the screen to give it a little protection while holding it. I wish the edges were stiffer because it easily flexes which give the sensation of coming off. It has not come off yet , but I feel like I have to be careful not to grab the edge. The stylus holder works great . My apple pencil has yet to come out on its own. The cover has a magnetic strap that wraps around the pencil and snaps to the back. This helps keep the screen shut and pencil in place while carrying it. If you are buying a screen protector, I would buy a glass one and not the floppy kind. I purchased the floppy one first and the edges kept forming bubbles when the case edges touched them. Switched to glass and Everything works and looks great now. The case does have a bump in the back but I can still lay it flat and use it. Thereis a tiny bit of play while flat, but its manageable.

After vacillating about an iPad pro 10.5 purchase with no Apple® case (only a cover) being offered I turned to Amazon® to search for one to protect my investment. I ran across quite a few cheap alternatives that didn’t meet my specifications. Past cases that I’ve purchased for other products sometimes had a bad odor from some sort of a chemical dye. I like this case for the following reasons: The new iPad pro 10.5 fits very well, the camera is protected, all of the cutouts were done right, the charging plug fits, the sleep/wake feature works with this case, it’s a grippy (non slip) case, very manly look (I bought the black version) and it has no odor! The pencil holder is a plus for those of us who need a stylus and love to use the inking apps and I think it was well thought out. The pencil is secure and the magnetic flap adds an extra layer of security to hold it in place. Overall, it’s a good-looking case at a reasonable price of $59.

I’ve had a lot of different cases over the years. Tuff cases, keyboard cases, pretty cases. Well what I needed was a case that wouldn’t slide all over the place. I.E, hit the brakes a little hard in the car and your iPad slams into your dash or under it! This case is protective and has grip, it may sound funny but real world use has are iPads sliding out of our hands when we have multiple items we are juggling or the case in point above!! If this case had a keyboard it would be perfect. But I am 100% willing to give up that keyboard for the real world functionality of this case! Great job UAG, now make it with a keyboard (and don’t change its texture, please).

The fact that Apple discontinued the silicone back cover held me back from buying the new iPad Pro. I wanted a non-slip case that was lightweight, yet sturdy enough to protect my iPad. After picking up my new iPad Pro I took a chance on the UAG case and was pleasantly surprised at how it meets all my needs. It is lightweight with a good grip, both in my hand and on smooth surfaces. It fits the iPad well and all of the cutouts are in the right places. The front cover folds nicely into a sturdy stand - much better than the Apple cover on my old iPad. I use the wireless Apple keyboard, not the Apple keyboard cover, so I haven't had any issues with removing the front cover to set up the keyboard. I don't use the pencil, so I haven't tried the holder, but it looks like the case will store a pencil easily if I ever add one. This item is fairly priced and just what I was looking for.

Pros: it's covers everything when case is closed, from the screen to all the edges. Has a holder for my Apple Pencil which I wanted. It's drop rated. I especially love the feel of the case. I didn't want it to be plastic feeling. It's. a nice soft material. Cons: not many for me but it is a little annoying I can't put it in every position. What I mean is because of how it is designed(which definitely makes sense because it is the side with the Apple Pencil holder on it) you can only have it in portrait mode with the case on one side. So not really much of a con. Also, I've noticed sometimes with the material it has smudge marks on it which bothers me a little but I've only noticed it with the inside material(the part which touches the screen). It's a sort of soft felt type of material, it's ok it gets smudges though because it's on the inside.

As the previous reviewer stated, I am very picky when it comes to cases, screens, etc. with my devices. I was a little skeptical at first when I saw this case on the website. I thought it would add too much bulk and not look good. I was wrong. The case fits snugged, perfect cutout for everything, and I also have a glass on the front and it does not bother it at all. One question someone asked was if the case lets you stand the device in portrait mode. It does not, however, you can still get it to stand in portrait by just angling the front cover to the back, but it's not meant to be used that way. Of all the cases that are currently out, which are not much, this one fits the bill perfectly thus far.

Product is designed perfectly. The section where the iPad sits securely is soft rubber no sharp edges like most cases that scratch the edges. This happened with my first case not happy after dropping 900$ on it. The product seems large/Bulky in package but is actually very slim and very asteticakly pleasing. If your looking for a new case, protection, and a nice look, with light weight...buy it you will not regret it. Price is somewhat high but totally worth it. You will not be disappointed! There was a lot of thought put into design and after hours of research this product is far superior, light weight, and great protection for your investment. Do yourself a favor and get one!

Overall this is an acceptable case but it has several flaws. The detachable stand is a nice feature; however, it snaps into a hard plastic insert on the back of the case. Once you remove it, you need to apply a fair amount of pressure to reattach it, risking damage to a very expensive iPad Pro. The stylus holder is poorly designed and the stylus easily comes off when in a backpack or bag. On the positive side, the material is fairly lightweight and appears to provide good protection; it also fits the iPad well. It may be a good choice for some, but I returned it and replaced it with a Zugu magnetic case.

    Lost Apple Pencil

The Apple Pencil holder on this case is terribly designed and the Apple Pencil will often pop out of the holder, which lead to me losing an Apple Pencil. Outside of that, the case is protective and compatible with Apple's Smart Keyboard, but considering my primary reason for purchasing this case was the Pencil storage and it has now lost my Apple Pencil I would not, do not and will not recommend it to others until they fix this design flaw. The Pencil holder on the Plasma series case has been re-tooled to be firmer and grips/holds the Apple Pencil a lot better.

I really wanted to love this case. I really like UAG’s design ethic, and the materials that they choose. This case feels quite good, when the cover is off. But that is exactly the problem with it... the cover. When it is closed, it will protect, and you feel comfy carrying it around. When it is open however, it just flops around, you can’t ever get it quite comfy. Also, the attachment mechanism that they employed was a good idea, but instead of using magnets, they used plastic insterted into the back. Every single time that you reattach the cover, you feel like the screen will break. I returned it for this reason.

Managed to get one of the last (of the first) cases in blue. Despite purchasing Apple Care, I like to get a good case for my iPad that offers solid protection, but also allows for product-specific accessories. UAG had everything I was looking for, plus, I like the style of the case. It lets all 4 speakers be exposed, has a holder for the Apple pencil, fits the iPad Pro perfectly, and my personal favorite aspect...lets you take off its (admittedly excellent) front cover to attach a Smart Keyboard. The only thing that might be considered a con is the weight; it's not bad, but you'll definitely feel it. That's the price for good protection.
