I have owned a number of higher end headphone. Many are more about the personalization of color then of sound quality.
These V-Moda headphones were a great surprise. They fit well on the ear so wearing them for long periods of time is not an issue. The sounds hit the highs and lows well with great balance. I am incredibly happy with them.
I got the Matte White which have a nice leather band. They do have a plate on the side that you can get custom add on ‘s from the V Moda site. Again, sound first and then you can spend $25+ with free shipping on the site to personalize yourself. They had a number of color options from 3D patterns to laser etched designs.

Bluetooth Audio done RIGHT! aptX, SBC, and AAC!

These are good looking headphones and I love the CliqFold design. The V-Moda CrossFade Wireless 2 Codex Editions (CFWCE2) could be the best looking headphones available to date. From the hard case that has venting to keep them smelling fresh to the exceptional virtually indestructible build quality; you get your money's worth here. They're built to last and are MIL-STD-810G rated for durability. Better yet, they sound good, too! As the name suggests, this is the second generation of this series of headphones from V-Moda. The drivers are different and the company improved on the build quality. The originals were already one of my favorite headphones and the followup is even better. These headphones pack three wireless codecs for improved audio over the Bluetooth connection: Qualcomm aptX, AAC and SBC. I’m here to say the difference is noticeable. These wireless headphones actually sound good. There is NO LAG when watching video either! Definitely take a look at these bad boys!
WHAT I LIKE:
The CFW2CE headphones feel like they’ll last a lifetime. I have headphones from other major brands in this price range none look or feel as good as these. They’re comfortable. Even on my large head, they fit nicely and I’m able to wear them for hours at a time without issue. The earcups completely cover my ears, but it is close. The memory foam is soft and pillowy. The headphones sound great, too. To be clear, they’re not the best sounding headphones available, but the sound is on par for the price. The sound stage is full and wide with great separation between the channels. The CFW2CE are most comfortable with the mid tones found in rock, country, hip hop, jazz and pop. That’s not to say low and high tones are absent; they’re present but not noteworthy. The headphones are balanced nicely with a preference to sounds in the middle of the range. Lows and mids are crispy clean while I would like to have a bit more in the highs, but that is my personal preference. You can hear all instruments from guitars, drums, and cymbals to electronic sounds. These are fairly accurate but not perfect. The CFW2CE are properly tuned headphones you will thoroughly enjoy. They get loud! They’re among the loudest headphones I’ve ever tested. Since they lack active noise cancellation, that’s a good thing. I’m pleased to report, there is very little distortion when the headphones are at their max volume also.
Wireless battery life is excellent. V-Moda claims 14 hours. I used these headphones for several days and never found the bottom of the battery. That’s good enough for me. They lack an auto shut-off feature so pay attention or you will get a dead battery. You can quick charge these for 30mins and get 4 hours of battery life which is nice. The best option is to use a 5V output charging source with the included V-MODA V-Micro USB cable. DO NOT use external chargers with output voltage above 5V (e.g. 9V, 12V etc.) as they might cause damages to the headphones. I wish they were USB-C but here we are again… 2006 USB charging connectors.
These headphones are versatile as well. Gaming is a possibility and also using them for calls. The CFW2CE have a wireless range of up to 10 meters (33ft) when paired to a bluetooth device. You can use them in wired mode by plugging them into the headphone jack on the Dualshock 4 controller using the provided 1-Button SpeakEasy™ cable, or the optional BoomPro™ microphone cable. Bluetooth connection is not currently supported for PS4. You can use your CFW2CE in wired mode with the Microsoft Xbox One/360/Xbox One X by plugging them into the headphone jack on the controller using the provided 1-Button SpeakEasy™ cable, or the optional BoomPro™ microphone cable. Please note, a third party adapter is needed to use the CFW2CE in wired mode with the Xbox 360 and if you own an older Xbox One controller, then the official Microsoft Headset adapter will be needed. Bluetooth connection is not currently supported for Xbox One/Xbox One X or Xbox 360 for the lowest latency. You can connect your CFW2CE to your Sony PlayStation 3 via Bluetooth (Settings > Accessory Settings > Manage Bluetooth Devices). When pairing the Crossfade 2 Wireless to the PS3, you may be asked for a "Pass Key", if so enter "0000" and continue. Please note that the PS3 only transmits chat audio through Bluetooth, NOT game audio. You can connect your CFW2CE to the Sony PlayStation Vita via Bluetooth (accessed through the Settings menu). If asked to enter a "pass key", please use "0000". Chat and game audio will be transmitted to your Crossfade Wireless once successfully paired with the PSVita. CFW2CE are able to maintain Bluetooth connection with two devices simultaneously such as smartphone + laptop, smartphone + tablet or smartphone + smartwatch. CFW2CE can be used for your VoIP calls if the source in charge of VoIP is Bluetooth enabled with the hands-free profile.
WHAT I DON'T LIKE:
These headphones lack two key features: Auto Power Off Timer and Auto Pause. They also lack an app for EQ and firmware updates. I don't like the fact they keep laying when taken off. For me, it's an unfortunate miss from V-Moda although not a deal breaker though. I have forgotten to turn these off a few times, but they still had lots of charge left. These are wireless headphones and therefore they have a limited battery life even though they have great battery life. Wireless headphones MUST have the ability to stop playing audio and auto shutoff when removed from the head.
As a bluetooth for calls, think bluetooth from early 1999-2000. Call audio sounds great in both ears, but the caller will hear EVERYTHING in the background. There aren't any noise cancelling microphones so everything will be amplified. Wind blocking is non-existent and low rumbling noises are easily picked up. Callers will know you are outside or on a train. This is a MAJOR weakness but then again, you DON'T buy these headphones for taking calls. Not a deal breaker for me.
We are in 2018, for the price I would expect an app and the ability to EQ your expensive headphones and possible firmware updates via the app. Not a deal breaker, but just my expectation.
VERDICT:
The headphones are available in several colors or you can use V-Moda’s customizer to build a custom pair. I love the V-Moda Crossfade II Wireless Codex Edition headphones. These are great headphones and I COMPLETELY recommend them. The sound profile on these I will characterize as warm and slightly bassy. They punch above their weight class and have a solid build quality that seem like they’ll last longer than other options on the market. With V-Moda's Immortal Life Program, it adds a value of 50% towards a future upgrade of your next pair of V-Modas through their site.

These are some amazing headphones, the sound quality is right up there with professional headphones. Build quality with quality materials. Looks wise it’s not my thing, I was able to get other face plates to change and make mine unique which I liked. Overall for the price I think these headphones are amazing for sound. The battery last a few hours non-stop

Bought this headphone in white and have not looked back. If you are looking for a solid headphone, in terms of sound quality, production quality, and travel-ability, this is the headphone for you.
The sound in this headphone is amazing, loud/clear bass that will help you discover parts in music that you haven't heard before.
These headphones are basically military grade and won't break, and their case is also super nice as well. Compact and hard.
Give these a chance and you won't be disapointed.

I've now owned, at one time or another, every bluetooth set Best Buy offers from $200 and up. Bose, Sennheiser, B&W, M&D, Beoplay, Sony, you name it. The V-Moda is the winner.
They don't have Sony's features, of course. No ANC, no touch controls, no app so you can't EQ, they're a very stripped down set of headphones that just aim to sound as good as possible, and that's exactly what they got. Using Apple Music and the AAC codec, these are just as good wireless as wired. They still have that big thump that V-Moda is known for, but the sound is far more balanced than before, and the result is a set that can work well with (nearly) any genre, though it excels in more energetic music. Comfortable as it needs to be, and built like a tank. If you don't need the noise canceling, this is the set to get.

Fantastic Sound Quality without sacrificing bass

I was in the market for a higher-end gaming headset, and tried a few already like the SteelSeries Arctis Pro and the Astro A40's, but found them all lackluster. Partly because they're intended for shooters it seems so they sacrificed bass for clarity, but I wanted that bass, otherwise the sound doesn't have the impact it should. I was then set on a pair of Sony headphones instead, as it's a brand I know and trust, but going back to listen to some of them at the Magnolia store, they didn't have that powerful bass I was looking for still, and tried the Sennheisers with the same result. I then stumbled upon these, and I was, at first, on the fence about them because I've never heard about this brand and they looked kinda funky. But, whoa, was I blown away. I hear sounds in music that I've never heard before, the clarity is amazing yet it still has that punchy bass I was looking for. They're not noise cancelling, but when I have them on I can't hear anything else. As for comfort, my ears did get sore the first week or so I had them on, but having since adjusted, I didn't feel the need to buy the extra foam earpiece that you can with this set. What's also cool about these is that you can go through their website and order a personalized laser engraving on the sides as well, and they look pretty darn cool.
The biggest drawback with these I would say with gaming is the quality of the microphone. The microphone has a hard time picking up your voice loudly enough (it's still clear, but extremely quiet) but you can't turn the sensitivity up because then it actually picks up the sound coming out of the headphones themselves, causing a lot of reverb to the other players. All in all though, I find sound quality way more important to me than microphone quality, so I still give these a 5/5.

Having never listened to V-MODA headphones before I wasn't sure what to expect. They have a great reputation, but I have listed to many "audiophile" grade headphones that just didn't make the mark for me. These headphones sound GREAT! They well exceeded my expectation and offer superb bass reproduction and nice clean mid and highs. Vocals sound superb and stringed instruments actually sound as good as my Martin Logan 60XTs. These headphones also get stupid loud and yet continue to sound crisp and clean. The build quality is also top notch and the headphones are lightweight. The earcups are very comfortable and offer an acceptable seal. So while not actively cancelling noise they do a relatively good passive job. They also offer basic volume controls on the right earcup and handsfree calling.
I only have two very minor complaints. First, the clamping force on my head is a bit much. The plus side is that I don't have to worry about getting a tight seal or falling off my head, but that comes at the cost of making my head hurt with long term use (>2 hours). Second, the controls on the right earcup are at the top and kind of small (at least for my hands) so I bumbled around trying to use the controls. That was for me and your mileage may vary. Neither point is a make or break for me, but I did want to point them out and I didn't let them affect my final score.
Overall, these are outstanding wireless headphones and are an easy recommend for me. They are well built, offer great battery life, and most importantly sound very impressive. Last, but not least, V-MODA offers outstanding customer and a great 50% 'immortal life' upgrade program. Even at their MSRP they are great value, so if you find them on sale, don't think.... just buy. You'll be glad you did.

Excellent quality, questionable industrial design

Let's start this with the positives. These headphones sound great. They feel extremely well-constructed. They had better Wireless quality than anything I'd ever used (probably helped that they were the "Codex" edition, supporting APT-X, as well as several other high-end Bluetooth codecs/formats that many wireless headphones don't...
But its 2018... I understand the "loud" industrial design is V-Moda's "thing" but with quality like this, and support for their product that is this good, including replacement parts, and customizable caps, etc, couldn't they also make a more subtle product that doesn't look like it belongs in 2005? I get that there are a certain kind of user who wants loud, bright-white, shield-shaped/gaudy cans on their head, but for those who don't, V-Moda's quality, support, and capability are a non-starter... Otherwise these things would be THE GOLD STANDARD. I am still almost incapable of listening to my other over-ear headphones now - Even my wired ones, with these delivering superior wired and wireless quality.
Another thing. Its NOT OK that these still charge with USB Type B (Micro) - Type C should have been the standard for over a year now and still SO MANY new products haven't adopted. Micro-B was a terrible, scratchy, one-way cable that Type C kills in the usefulness department, let alone charging speed. In this price range it should be the standard across all device types.

latency is horrendous & sound quality is average

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I asked for these for Christmas so that I could upgrade my regular headphones for playing mobile games. I was under the impression that these were low latency Bluetooth headphones. Unfortunately they have the worst lag I have ever heard. It takes at least a full second, if not 2 full seconds for the sound to transmit from my iPhone to the headphones.
The sound quality is nothing remarkable. I expect this from a Bluetooth connection, but even when plugged in, they sound flat.
Last is the issue with the design. I was expecting these to be over the ear, when they are actually more like on-ear. There’s also the headaches due to the tightness of the band, which squeezes my head and I have to take them off after a short time to give my head a break from the pressure.
Pros: there seem pretty durable, and come with a really nice case. You can swap out the plates and even have some custom made with your brand/logo 3D printed on them. This is sort of cool if customization is something that matters to you.

Eh, Not My Favorite.

Not my favorite headphones.
These were uncomfortable seeing as how they are mostly metal which means they weigh heavily over long listing sessions.
They also are not made for people with larger heads as my use over the span of the year warped the headband which makes them hard to ever resell.
I wasn't the biggest fan of he inline cable either as even it felt heavily made which only hurt these more over time.
The button layout is really hard to remember and press at first. There is definitely a learning curve. There can be some misplaced finger movements at first. However, over time it isn't hard to understand and remember.
Wouldn't buy these again, but they may be better for people with smaller heads, and who want them for shorter lightening sessions.

Best Buy offers much better options for the money. These are not cheap headphones. Battery died after 7 months of light usage. Battery is not replacable. V-Moda customer service is horrible. They sound good (better wired than wireless) but, not great. Save yourself time, money, and aggravation and buy something else. V-Moda offered me a new pair at 50% off. I'd rather spend double and get something that functions as advertised.

Other than the look (white) these aren't any better than the 1st gens. If you go to bluetooth, it'll say the battery percentage down to 60%. After that it's a guessing game until the headphones start beeping at you. Waste the $100+ extra spent to "upgrade" to the newest gen.

After standard use for one year 4 month, the right hearphone stopped working. I contacted support and since the year warranty was up they wouldn't do anything but give me half off another pair. For this kind of money this is totally unacceptable durability and customer support. I won't buy another product from this company.

If I spend over $350 on a product I expect it to work. Out of the box only one ear cup is producing sound so now I have to pay out of pocket to send into V Moda for repair. Save yourself trouble and look elsewhere.
