FULL REVIEW: https://wp.me/p4T35p-g8k Story Dontnod calls Vampyr a AA production. While true that the game has rough spots, its overall polish is greater than several AAA titles seen this year. I expect nothing less than stellar of Dontnod when it comes to writing. They have a knack for creating an entire world for their games worthy of the silver screen. Vampyr mixes real world history with traditional vampire lore and creates something fresh. Even issues of race are touched upon. I was really happy to see things like that were not shied away from. London's mysteries wait to be unraveled and you will enjoy the experience. Gameplay While doing nothing new, Vampyr employs a gameplay design befitting the action RPG genre. You cannot run into combat Rambo-style and expect to survive. strategizing before and during combat will yield the best results. I would have like a bit more stealth as you are a creature of the shadows. The gameplay does employ a fair amount of talking; do not mistake this as a pure action title. The talking goes a long way for player immersion as you will truly feel the lives you may be taking. Graphics & Sound The graphics are one of the few cavities in the teeth of Vampyr. Fight animation is smooth, level and character design are great, but some areas just look dated. The in-game visuals also do not live up to those of cutscenes, giving a very PS3/360 feel. PC will obviously look better, but you will still be able to see flaws like wobbly characters during conversation. The music and voice acting are both top notch, but loading can interfere with music. There is also the sticking point that NPCs may repeat dialogue and make no sense. For example, Nurse Crane repeats the same dialogue outside your office as when she first welcomes you to Pembroke. Thankfully, that is about as much as I can report in terms of bugs or glitches. Bottom Line: If you game on PC, PS4 or Xbox One, Vampyr should be in your collection.

Things I like: The combat is fun, and special powers were impressive. Enemy variety is kinda standard, but has enough variety to not be completely boring. The whole investigation side of things where you figure out stuff about people and the city is a neat idea, and pretty well implemented. Characters are very well developed, and generally interesting to get to know. Taken all together, the game play is good and the setting feels alive. The idea of wanting to save everyone, but needing to kill people in order to be strong enough to save them in the first place, is well implemented. Things I don't like: Animations during conversations are stiff, and all the dialogue and voice acting feels like it's pulled straight out of a soap opera. It's... not great. It's especially jarring when conversations are such a major part of the game, and you have to suffer through them because everything around them is honestly really cool. Oh, and the romance arc feels force and rushed, but that's par for the course when it comes to video games anyways. This game satisfied my RPG fix til Dragon Quest XI came out. If they had more time to develop the graphics or more of a budget, DONTNOD would've rivaled or topped the later entries of the Castlevania PS3 series in my opinion. The story and setting was certainly on point.

The closest we'll get to a Vampire the Masquerade in this day and age. It's a an action RPG with an intricate dialogue system and a city health system tied down to the health of its citizens. You can only kill characters by having a higher LV, hypnotizing them and sucking their blood. The more info you know about each citizen the more XP you are rewarded if you kill them. On the other hand you can fight and do quest and get XP that way. This is an excelent example of a AA game that is only held back by some weirs choices. Like the fact that you character can't jump or traverse the xity through the rooftops, instead you have to press a button and the right time on the right spot in order to jump up a balcony or any other platform. All in all the game is great and should be supported. They tried something new and succeeded for the most part. Get it. Cheers.

I am enjoying progressing the story to see what unfolds in Dr. Reid's unlife. The game is a combination of dialogue driven interactions, finding collectables, and basic combat. You can opt out of some or skip to rush through most if you'd prefer. There are ways to make the game easier or harder by feeding or not, waiting longer to level up, and upgrading powers and weapons. There is one (autosave) game per playthrough, but dying means regeneration to try again (but at cost of supplies). Ultimately this seems to be a game of reasonable length that I will be playing again to try for different outcomes. I read online about 15 hour storyline but 20-30 to really explore; with replay value I think it's worth the cost.

Vampyr is a dark dramatic story of a doctor turned vampire in turn of the century London, where the player gets to choose how the story unfolds for our character. Will you keep the Hippocratic oath and try to save as many lost souls as you can or will you give in to your newfound powers and feed on the citizens of the city. The story and the characters are both well executed and unique the only flaws I see with the game are; combat is a little simplified for a game of this play-style and you are unable to fast-travel across the relatively large map. All in all good game, and anyone looking for a more story driven game where your choices carry weight and stay with you throughout the game I recommend trying this game out.

Vampyr is a tremendous achievement considering the budget developers, DONTNOD Entertainment, had to work with. The graphics I would say are a solid 7.5 with faces being more around 8.5/9. It's London and the environment portrayed in Vampyr that makes the game shine visually. The story is engaging and forces the player to make meaningful decisions that hold consequences. The dialogue with citizens within the game can begin to be too much at times, but the information and knowledge gained on them is interesting and intriguing enough that I went through full interactions with them to get the most information I could. Overall, it is a great single player story based experience that one should not pass on.

First let me clarify that I love all things vampire related. I was excited about this game when I heard of it but the gameplay itself is a bit meh. The controls need work, you're a vampire who can't jump, climb, etc. The game essentially penalizes you for doing what vampires do, feed on people! If you kill too many people for that oh so juicy XP then that city area destabilizes and becomes a hot mess for things that crawl in the night. Using XP on powers is pretty cool, but again...you're a vampire so why am I wasting time on hacking away people with a saw, knife, handgun, etc. The characters you meet are interesting but overall this game needs some work.

Went into this game with low expectations. Never really heard of the company that crafted this gem, but being the vampire enthusiast I am I wanted to believe that this game would entertain my guilty pleasure...Boy did my gamble pay off. Great story mode that actually has consequences especially end game pertaining to the choices made during gameplay. Decent graphics aren’t your enemy here, but a mildly seasoned combat system would be the weakest link. Perfect score since I didn’t expect much, but got a bang for my buck by purchasing this game at a discounted price. Worth it if you can snag for $40 or under.

This is a very fun vampire game, which we don't get a lot of these days. The story is great and choices always matter which I really like. The ending or endings aren't that great but everything leading up to it is. The gameplay is fun if a little chunky as is the combat which can be hard to get use to but I ended up enjoying it after awhile. The graphics are passable nothing special but get the job done. Then there's the voice acting which I would say is great for the most part, and which parts are bad are at least funny. A game which has problems buy I couldn't help but enjoy to the fullest, overall a package I must recommend.

I am really torn about giving this game 4 stars (it's more like 4.5), but I hope that docking a star will encourage the developers to patch two annoyances, both of which revolve loading times - the first takes place while respawning and/or entering a new area, the second at seemingly random times while exploring, when the game freezes and a "loading" indicator appears in the lower right hand corner of the screen. I understand that the studio behind this game doesn't have the resources that are available to AAA developers, but, when the game is being sold at a AAA price, that's not a good enough excuse.

I really like this game and think I would like it more when the upcoming patch comes out. I wasn't a huge fan of the fighting in it but really loved how the story and world plays out depending on your encounters with its inhabitants. I didn't try it, but you can also play as a blood thirsty vampire and just kill everyone. I enjoyed the interactions more and tried not to kill anyone that didn't deserve it. The upcoming patch is supposed to tailor to those that want to focus on the story and another option that would focus on the combat. So, its a good game either way, just not great.

Take the feeling of Blood Omen 2, the battle system of Bloodborne, mix it with Mass Effect and you get this game. This is the very definition of a double AA title. Do not expect the best graphics or the best fighting mechanics, or the best anything, this is made to budget. Even then the lighting used in this game makes it look like a AAA title. It might not hit a home run but we do need more AA games of this caliber. Take those AAA glasses and enjoy a rollicking romp tour the force good time...or something. Seriously buy it and support them. Support Physical Media yo!

The game was fun, although tedious at times. There is no fast travel which results in repetitive gameplay, which is sub-par. There were many times where I wished I could just skip it to get to the excellent dialogue and storytelling. The game does an excellent job at changing according to your decisions. Consuming certain individuals will grant you greater rewards at the risk of compromising the civilians. It's a unique experience but the underwhelming fighting mechanics need to be acknowledged.

This game feels like the sort of mid budget games we used to get all of the time over a decade ago. It's not the best looking game out there but it has some clever ideas like every NPC having their own traits and personalities. You play as a "good" vampire and you gain xp mostly through killing civilians if you choose to. But each person you kill lowers the safety rating of the district so you have to be careful about removing people.

I knew from the reviews that this wouldn't be the world's best game, and it wasn't. The story could have been interesting, but so much was never explained. There is no fast travel, so you have to walk, walk, walk, over and over through the same streets and try to remember when to cut through which buildings because the map is terrible too. I finished it but I wouldn't play it again.

One of the more interesting games out there in today's market. An RPG based in London about a vampire, whom, ironically is a blood specialist surgeon. The game has amazing visuals in a gritty, dark London. The game play is a little tricky to master but is loads of fun when you know the controls. Get it while you wait for other amazing releases.

This game has a dark souls style feel with a little twist. The combat while exciting is not as intesne as Dark Souls though. If you level up your character accordingly, the game is not near as hard. With that said, the level up and combat system is fun. The storyline is unique but some of the dialogue is a little too long. Overall it is a fun game.

Game turned out to be so fun! I love games that are affected based on the choices I make. Very reminiscent to the Fable series. Haven't finished the game but so far I am really enjoying it which says a lot from an impulse buy on a game I only heard about once before.

If you love playing games like Vampire: The Masquerade and wish to have a similar gameplay experience then this game may be up your ally. There is no season pass or dlc outside of the pre order weapons and clothes planned so it's a complete game from the moment you purchase it physically or digitally, you get the full game on disc.

I had such high hopes for this game because there hasn't been a good fantasy/non shooter game out for PS4 since Witcher 3, and I was so let down by Vampyr. The story line is so bland and the whole game is so choppy and short and it made no sense. There was a serious lack of development for this game. I'll be returning it asap.
