I was very skeptical to watch a venom film not related to the Spiderman universe, but as Venom is one of my all time favs, I gave it a chance. I didn't love the film, but I did enjoy it, and the new spins on the symbiotic relationships. I would recommend this film to fans, but to a causal viewer, like my wife, she just didn't seem to enjoy the story as much as I did. I wanted way more symbiotes related action, but this is clearly a set of for future films movie.

If you're going to buy a version of the film- this is the edition to have. Picture and sound are demo worthy for the home theater system, and I enjoy Tom Hardy as an actor. Not the perfect Venom movie, but much better than the cameo in Spider-Man 3. Steelbook is great, doesn't really attract fingerprints, and the PopArt design seems appropriate for this film (though I'm not a fan of the series overall).

Average Film That is Surprisingly Enjoyable

Upon first glance at this film your first question might be, "where is Spider-Man"? After getting over the comic inaccuracies hurdle you can actually enjoy this film which actually has a great dynamic between Venom & Eddie Brock. A film that looks like it could have been filmed in the 90's during the emergence of comic movies has some genuine heart felt moments as well as some good comedy thrown in. I guess it could have been a R rated movie due the nature that most expect from Venom's source material but the movie did not really feel like it would have benefited from gallons of blood and gore to get its point across anymore than it accomplishes here. As far as the 4k master itself, it is what you would expect from a Sony produced film. For a movie that has a lot of black in it due to either a lot of night scenes or the character of Venom itself manages to excel in splitting Venom apart from the dark background and not loose any details. Audio is also top notch for a 5.1 set up. Extra material is minimal but that is becoming the new trend for releases these days anyway. Don't go into this film expecting the next "Dark Knight" or for it to stick close to it's source material. CGI also looked a little rushed at certain points and Tom Hardy's performance is a little inconsistent at times. But if you just want a leave-your-brain-at-the-door movie you will enjoy it for what it is. Steelbook case is also pretty!

This one surprised me just as much as everyone told me it would. I absolutely love it! Different and absolutely not your average DC/ MCU movie but I am glad I own it. I wish there had been some Spiderman cast cameos but hey I guess you can't have it all. From a A/V perspective this has great blacks wonderful shadow details and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack that makes this worth having!

Idk what the problem people had with this movie. Yeah it’s not a flashy marvel movie like guardians of the galaxy or Thor. So what?? It had the feel of older marvel movies that were forming character stories. I absolutely love it and watched it 4 times in just a few days which is pretty good for a 2 hr movie. The comedy between Tom Hardy’s character and venom is amazing and really makes the movie.

I read Spider-Man comics as a kid, but lost interest in them in the late 70s, so I didn't know anything about Venom. I saw this movie on a whim, and was so happy I did, Tom Hardy is fantastic! There's no character he can't portray! Watching this movie, you'd never know he is a Brit. There's action, comedy and nice special effects. After seeing it twice, I decided to buy the DVD when it came out

Tom Hardy plays a reporter, who can't get a break. Several alien life forms invade our planet. One invades the body of Eddie Brock. He is terrified at the creature looking back at his in the mirror. And there's the voice in his head. He can't control the creature and starts to lose his mind, his job and his fiancé. The movie starts off a little slow, but when Venom starts up, it's a fun ride. The effects are amazing. And there's lots of humor.

    Not Your Typical Marvel Movie

Venom is one of those characters that needed a special kind of team to bring him to the silver screen (yeah, I'm ignoring Raimi's version) and it was definitely found in the crew of this film. Venom isn't a "superhero" but he isn't really a "villain" either, but it's clear that this film takes pages from the Marvel Studios movie playbook. It's enjoyable and worth the watch.

I was not expecting the outcome of this movie. Anyone who loves super hero movies are in for a surprise. How he acquired his powers is brilliant. And then the action scenes were breathtaking. The supporting actors kept this movie moving along and I can't wait for the sequel. This movie is only going to have a long life, as the lead character will change with time.

For any Marvel/spiderman fan. I do not agree with the negative comments made about this movie. Maybe its not for those who are not aware of Venom’s origins. If you understand the backstory, this is a movie that you can definitely enjoy. It was a bit cheesy at times, but thats exactly how i remember it from the old cartoon version of spiderman/venom!

What a great Marvel movie! The producers took elements from the comics along with some of their own ideas and made it all work. I’ve always been a Venom fan and have all of the Carnage series comics and separation anxiety. This movie is an origin movie and I’m excited to see where the next movie will pick up... buy it; you won’t be disappointed!

I really enjoyed this movie. I enjoyed the interactions between Eddie and Venom. At first I was not enjoying the Eddie story line but I think they did a great job of creating a good story with character development. He was very unlikable at first and I almost turned it off, but unlike every other super hero movie we were treated to someone that we grew to like instead of getting a Mary Sue right away.

This movie is great! Even if your not a comic book kind of moviegoer this could be worth a watch as it doesn't fit into the timeline as of yet and has some great science fiction aspects! I didn't know If I was going to like this but Im glad I got it because these are getting hard to come by and it was very enjoyable! The UHD and 4k aspects of this film are great!

Tom Hardy's performances as Eddie Brock and Venom make for a fun and entertaining ride. It certainly isn't what I expected since I thought this would spin off directly from the Spider-Man movie but it was still very entertaining and kept my interest throughout the whole movie. I am looking forward to the next Venom movie since this was set up to be a series.

Our family really enjoy the Marvel movies, and this one did not disappoint. Storyline is different from the typical Avengers movies, while still keeping some of the Avengers humor. This was my first real exposure to Venom, so I can't speak to how close it is to the comic books, but would recommend this to anyone looking for a good mix of laughter and excitement.

Venom is a Wicket Marvel Super Hero Movie; Tom Hardy was the perfect actor to be mixed in with the Venom. A kind of new twist to Marvel type Characters; rather funny and entertaining. I don't know what the issues were with the critics and especially with Rotten Tomatoes??? Common get off the pot and enjoy the better reviews by the Marvel Fan Movie Empire!

I read some bad reviews and was a little worried it wouldn't be good. My wife, son and father all ended up really liking the movie. Its has a tamer/PG deadpool feeling (the fact he talks to himself & is kind of a bad guy but is going after other bad guys). We all were laughing at several points through the movie. My son has watched this 3 times within a week.

"Venom" should not be considered a good film, but I can't stop myself from loving it. It's extremely strange and seems to just proceed with its own sense of pacing, but the film weirdly just works. Eccentric performances and moments of kinetic action with the hilarity and awesomeness of the titular character itself make this a truly memorable film indeed.
