It took about 40 minutes to get it activated and get it working, but once it was working it works very good. The problem is the description of this hotspot is not complete/inaccurate. When you look it up on the Best Buy website it also shows a Sim starter kit and photographs of refill cards. This would lead most people to believe that although this hotspot is locked to Verizon, that it did not have a Sim card already installed. Well it did have a Sim card installed, but looking at the pictures and talking to a Best Buy team member, who said it didn't have a Sim card by the way, I also purchased a Verizon Sim starter kit as well as a 50 Dollar Refill card. Now once I found the Sim card already installed and through the use of a magnifying glass to read the numbers on it, I called Verizon directly and got this thing activated thereby negating the need for the $50 refill card. A 50 Dollar refill card that I now did not need, had not used, had not scratched anything off or expose anything on the card, that I am now being told I cannot return! The frustrating thing is I asked a Best Buy team member in the store about the need to get a Sim card to put in this device, and two of them said YES, and that I would have to buy a SIM card starter kit as well as a refill card. So in the future whoever buys this thing either check it before you leave the store or don't buy the Sim card because it is not necessary to activate this device - that can be done online as the Sim card is aleady installed! the only possibility is that I bought a returned unit andf the Sim card was never taken out. Very deceptive this advertising was!

At first i was hesitaten about buying this because of the low price. Well, i’m glad i didn’t let that stop me from buying it. Because this baby works like a champ . . . it has great speed on my iphone & laptop. And it also maintained its speed on youtube. And it wasn’t hard to setup . . . just make sure you have about 45 minutes to set it up. And don’t forget to change the admin password . . . you will also have to change the wifi password as well. By the way you can use the admin password for wifi as well. Just make sure it’s strong. You’ll have to login to the device from a browser to change passwords.

Best Prepaid Hotspot with bad website support

I bought this after I moved to West Des Moines before I get the home internet setup. While it is little expensive over other, Verizon signal here in this area is strong and AT&T, which is my wireless carrier, sucks. After I bought this it took me fairly half-a-day to setup and go online. I am a techie, engineer and I can fairly work with any new system easily. I found that I need to have working internet to activate this and use it. What is the point of buying a hotspot that needs the internet connection to activate and load? Can't the Big Red Verizon, could let me activate it without having internet? AT&T can do it if they have a signal available there. Come'on Verizon! While I recommend this, I advise buyers to activate and load your Hotspot before leaving Best Buy.

A few weeks ago, a storm hit and caused our internet provider at work to go down. We were without internet for three days. We are a medical facility working off a EMR system, so no access to patient files was sending us into chaos. I heard about these hot spots and decided to try them out. They worked wonders! The speed was incredible and it really saved our butts when it came down to being able to access our patients charts.

Very disappointed when I got home with the item, it came with an expired SIM card. After 3 hrs trying to get into contact with someone from Verizon they offered to send a replacement in 3-5 days. I never received it! I had to go into an actual Verizon store that took another 45 minutes to get assistance. Overall, unit itself works pretty well. I suggest if you purchase this item to go directly into a Verizon store to get a new SIM card.

Bought as I wanted a secure way to access my personal files while traveling. And that's just what it does! Only problem I encountered was my first attempt to add data. Had to call Verizon and got the runaround and a bunch of wrong numbers before I found the right person to add data. (I don't have a Verizon phone account, so this complicated things.)

purchased this product, had it set up at Best Buy in Findlay through Verizon, Geek Squad came to my house and hook it up to a new router I also bought from Best Buy as well and it still doesn’t work. Was told the hot spot would plug right into this particular router I bought but it didn’t and the Geek Squad had to build a bridge to it. Pay $106 for the Geek Squad to come out and do this and guess what, IT STILL DOESN’T WORK!!!!

This little hotspot does the job. I needed something that allowed internet access when I’m not working in the office and without the obligation of going through my cell phone provider. At the time of my purchase it was only $29.99 so I couldn’t complain at all. This prepaid hotspot definitely serves its purpose.

Bought 2 jet packs to use for home WiFi and mobile WiFi while couponing. I have 10 phones, 2 TVs and one projector and they are absolutely great. If you have a lot of gadgets like I do I recommend you getting multiple of these jet packs because the WiFi speed does slow down when you have too many things connected at the same thing. Overall, I am thoroughly I’mpressed.

    Doesn't satisfy the need

I would give this Zero stars if that was an option. Tried to use this device to create an internet connection and wifi network at a vacation home so I could monitor the house when I wasn't there via smart thermostat and security camera. Initial set up of the jetpack was a pain (Verizon Prepaid has terrible customer interface/troubleshooting services). After that ordeal, I was able to easily connect all my devices to the jetpack's wifi network, so all is well, right? NOT. After twelve hours all of the smart devices were offline. I had to physically power cycle the jetpack to reconnect them to the internet (i.e., I had to go back to the house - there is no way to remotely power cycle the jetpack!). Then after 2 hours - same thing! Everything offline again. This device is too UNRELIABLE.

As long as you have good Verizon coverage in your area, this little MiFi should work well. You can charge it via USB mini and it is very small and light. I was able to get mine on sale for 25.00.

I am less impressed with this version of the jet pack than I was with earlier models. This unit seems to have a weaker antennae or something different in its radio because it does not receive signal as well as older models. The battery life is excellent and the size is perfect for a laptop bag or car console.

...I’m not so sure why there’s so many bad reviews- I’m like, are we using the same device?! we’re moving, so I decided to strip cable for a tad to save some money & went to Best Buy to purchase. Now one thing Best Buy did do for me was set everything up prior to me leaving; so I’m sure that helped tons! But here at home, with the kids, MULTIPLE devices connected (about 8-9), we’ve been on great speed, with maybe 3-4 (15 second) glitches here and there; but again, it QUICKLY came right back on! it’s making me question getting cable again, and just using it with a roku or something- but so far this little gadget has been AMAZING!!!

    Good Hotspot

    |
    Posted .

I bought this for a 10 day road trip knowing I wouldn’t see a real internet connection wher3 I was going. The hotspot worked as advertised, although much slower than my home internet, seemed like it would surf the web fine, but when I logged into my office computer it felt like the old dial up speed. Got me by so I was able to keep up with the daily business of running my company.

Comes with SIM card installed. Pretty easy setup. You can use the WiFi on it to set up your account and make your first payment before you officially have internet on it. It assigns a telephone number to your account even though there’s no way to ever use that number. I had a problem when I drove around testing it. It lost the signal and it never came back. Eventually I discovered I had to cycle power. Not sure yet whether I have to do that all the time while traveling. This will allow me to not switch from Sprint to Verizon as my cell phone carrier. I prefer Sprint, but the coverage isn’t as good as Verizon. So this device can fill in the gaps if I really need data.
