Sound quality for this specific unit I purchased wasn't good at all. The skate was totally unoperable. I may have just received a bad unit. Unit wasn't even fully automatic but it Operate like advertise with the sono sound bar and speakers. Returned and purchased a much cheaper and fully automatic unit.

Victrola’s first foray into a fully automatic turntable is a very successful one. If you are not interested in reading a long-winded review, here is a brief summary: The Victrola Automatic is a wonderful option for first-time vinyl enthusiasts who are starting to get into record collecting and listening; and is also a good option for experienced vinyl enthusiasts who want vinyl playback to be simple and enjoyable. A couple of details on the Victrola Automatic itself. The turntable is very lightweight, which was a little worrisome at first to me. Often times when it comes to turntables, weight is synonymous with sound quality, so I was a little concerned. The Victrola Automatic does not come with your typical tone arm either. Instead of a cylindrical tube, made out of some form of metal or plastic, the J-shaped tone arm is square-shaped. The venerable, well-known and well-liked Audio Technica ATN 3600L cartridge comes fixed to the arm and cannot be replaced by another cartridge. The stylus is replaceable, and is the conical-type, which means while it does not extract the last little bit of data from the grooves, it does have a pleasant, rolled-off sound that reminds many of how vinyl sounded back in the day. The Victrola Automatic comes with Bluetooth capability, called Vinylstream. I couldn’t find any details on the format of Bluetooth being used, but I am assuming it is SBC and not AptX. The Automatic has a built-in phono preamp which can be bypassed to run phono signal to an external preamp if desired. Completing the ensemble is a hinged plastic cove. Now, for some details about my experience with the Victrola Automatic. Unboxing and setting up the turntable didn’t require me to get out the small, included owner’s manual; the process was simple and easy. The only installation required was to set the aluminum platter in place, slip the belt over the motor drive pulley, and plug the unit in. I started with a Bluetooth connection to my SMSL DAC with Bluetooth capability. After about 30 seconds, the Automatic connected to the DAC, and I listened to a few records. Sound was okay in this method; slightly dull and lifeless. I then connected the RCA plugs to my preamp and used the built-in phono preamp to push analog signal to my speakers. Sound quality was definitely improved. But, of course, the best sound quality came when I turned off the built-in phono preamp and instead used a separate preamp in my system. I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality that I heard as I listened to a variety of records over the next 2 or 3 days. Did the Automatic reach to the sound quality levels I was accustomed to hearing from some much more expensive equipment? Of course not. But it sound dang good and operated perfectly each and every time. Having a fully automatic turntable and not having to watch for the end of records to lift the needle is dang cool. And, reminds me of older times when I was growing up and my mom was spinning vinyl. The value proposition of the Victrola Automatic is high. It has a lot of competition in its price segment, and is one of the better options.

Victrola did a wonderful job in the design, feel, and look of this record player. They were able to maintain the classic look and feel while taping into the modern styles of today; classy, yet minimalistic. Placing in various rooms throughout the house, main areas, living, and study, the record player compliments these areas very well. Initial setup does take a little bit as the main player wheel needs to be attached to the table itself. Easily done as Victrola provides a pull tab for the drive belt to pull and slip the belt onto the drive spindle in place. The belt has already been prepositioned on the wheel itself to ease install. It appears and seems to have a really nice build quality from the touch and feel. Record playback is very easily accomplished via the supporting repeat function. Having the repeat function is very nice these days for those extended listening sessions. Additional items included in box are the power adapter and stereo audio (RCA) cable. Bluetooth setup is simply done via the provided manual and straight forward. Overall sound quality, is clear and to include clarity. Sound may be played by direct connection to speakers or via Bluetooth. The Bluetooth feature is very nice as it enabled me to place the record player in an area within the study without the need for wires. In the past, we have had to run a length of audio cable or place the record player by the sound system main unit. Highly recommend for any level audiophile looking for a record player to add to their audio setup at home.

Hey TMck, Please check the underside of your platter. The belt should be attached beneath the platter itself. Look carefully please since the platter and the belt are the same color so it may blend in. Just bought this today based on the reviews, got it all hooked up, put my record on it, it spinned for maybe 5 seconds the automatic feature didn't even touch the album. Did the troubleshooting to ensure the the rubber band wasn't twisted and connected around the motor correctly. After doing this multiple times a gave up. Will be returning tomorrow.

A Welcome Blast Back to the Past

I’ve had my old record albums stored in my basement for decades. I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of them and kept telling myself (and my wife) that I was going to buy a new turntable one day so I could enjoy them again. After an embarrassing number of years later, I finally got a new turntable. One of my obstacles to buying a new turntable was having to invest in decent speakers so I could fully enjoy the sound quality. This turntable from Victrola quickly resolved that issue. This turntable is Bluetooth compatible, and I have several high quality Bluetooth speakers in my house. Pairing my turntable with the speakers was relatively easy, so I was up and running in short order. Having speakers all around my house allows me to use my turntable in different room, thanks to its portability. I found the setup instructions to be lacking and somewhat vague. The illustrations were hard to decipher at first, but my familiarity with turntables helped me to git ‘er done. If I hadn’t already known that the turntable belt had to wrap around the motor spindle, it would have taken some head scratching. I think better illustrations would be helpful for first time users. Once the setup was complete, everything else is plainly covered in the manual. After the setup, the most difficult part was deciding which of my many vintage, long forgotten albums would I play first. Kind of Blue, by Miles Davis, obviously. After placing the disc on the turntable, I made sure the presets were on 12” and 33RPM (they were the default settings). Then, the hard part… Not really, I just pressed the PLAY button and three seconds later, the dulcet tones of arguably the finest Jazz album ever recorded were gracing my living room. On my turntable from forty years ago, I had to physically lift the tonearm and place it on the album. Not with this turntable. A simple press of the PLAY button and off we go. Now, if you wanted to listen to a particular track on the album, you still have to manually move the tonearm to the track you want to hear. This turntable offers a button that raises the tonearm off of the album (basically, a PAUSE button.) another press of the same button lowers the tonearm back to the album. The repeat button provides continuous play of the album or 45RPM. In today’s age of digital music that may not be a big deal, but for the generation who grew up with record players, it’s a welcome feature. Since I move the turntable from room to room, a locking device on the tonearm to secure it in place would have been nice. When moving the turntable for whatever reason, be sure to reattach the stylus cover. I have no idea what a new stylus costs these days, but a quality stylus was quite expensive back in the day. I would like to have seen a location to store the stylus cover, like there’s a location to store the adapter for 45s. Don’t forget to lower the dust cover when not in use. Dust is the enemy of precision electronics. In the end, I have to say that it is a real treat to have a turntable again! I can’t wait to go to my friend’s vintage music store to grab some new music. This turntable is a nice entry level turntable that I highly recommend. PROS: -I can play vinyl again! -Single button automatic play and repeat -Bluetooth compatibility -Portability - move it to any room thanks to bluetooth -Lift the tonearm with a button press (reduces record scratching) -Storage location for the 45RPM adapter CONS: -Better setup illustrations/instructions -Tonearm locking mechanism -A storage location for the stylus cover

The ultimate in portable, flexible, simple vinyl playing. It made me rethink where I can put a turntable. Having a party outside, yep put the turntable on the deck. Want vinyl in your bedroom? Out in the garage? This can do it all. This is a good solid turntable. Not anywhere near audiophile, just serviceable. There are turntables at this price point that are far better. But none are as simple to use or as flexible as this one. The sound is good, more dependent on the speakers you use than the turntable itself. I connected this to very expensive and very inexpensive Bluetooth speakers - it worked and sounded solid with both sets. There is something important to remember - tracking force for the stylus. It can't be adjusted with this turntable. And you want to avoid super heavy tracking (it will ruin your records). Great news, this tracks at 3 grams - perfectly safe for vinyl. Setup is super easy, basically take it out of the box, remove packing material, slip the belt on (pictures in the instructions show how to do this), and plug it in. The only thing I didn't like, pressing that button on the front with weird sequences to start pairing mode. It didn't always work as described. Speaker volume has to be adjusted on the speaker or with the speaker app. The turntable has no app or ability to change volume. It simply plays records. I had trouble pairing it with some Bang and Olufsen speakers. And be aware, if you have more than one Bluetooth speaker around, it will pair with a random speaker, and you can't tell which one it paired with until you start playing a record. There are two motors - one for the platter and a second for moving the tone arm. That's a good thing, the platter doesn't slow down when you press stop. Fully automatic works amazingly well - gently setting the needle down at the lead in track. I like this turntable a lot. Mostly because it can go places I never imagined.
