What is Old is New Again

End of day... its a Vinyl record player... If you are of a certain age, you know what that means. Vinyls have made a comeback over the last 5 years or so, and growing every day. Having purchased a re-print of Prince's Purple Rain album, just to have it... It was about time to have a player to play it. Out of the box, this took about 5 minutes to setup. Turntable onto the unit, a little stretch of one belt onto the motor, and you are ready to go. I used the bluetooth connection, and this is where it lost .25 star. I found the blind bluetooth binding challenging, maybe it was my speaker as well, but it took several attempts for the player and the speaker to pair up. And I seem to have to do it every time we turn it on. But once it is connected, it is great. As an alternative, you can use "classic" analog Red/White RCA plugs to connect to a speaker or amplifier. Usage is super simple, set your speed (supports both common speeds), and the size of record (both common sizes supported). Place your record on the turn table, and hit play. The armature will go to the start of the album, and will start to play, and sound AMAZING. You can easily lift and place the needle (Stylus) if you want to jump to a specific track. The sound is clear... the sound is rich and deep. Love it. It brings a little bit of the magic back of playing an album from start to finish. So here is where we lose just another .5 star. It is not AT ALL vibration tolerant. Yes, any record player is going to skip or not play smooth if there is too much vibration. But this one is so sensitive that even walking on the floor, or closing a drawer (not hard), caused it to skip. The last .25 lost, the unit has a very plastic and lightweight feel to it. There is not much to it. For some that may be a good thing, but for us, it just gave it a feeling of it is just another device. Not the central focus of a sound system that record players used to be. It is a nit pick, but it is how we felt about it. Since getting the player, we have pulled out the few records that my wife had at her parents home (1980's classics and soundtracks), I have been buying many re-print collector albums that are beautiful to look at. and then some newer movie soundtrack albums. As the market continues to grow, looking forward to buying more albums. And what is nice, is several vendors are then also offering instant digital versions as well, so we can use some of the modern music devices as well.

Turntables are starting to make a comeback and having grown up in a household with hundreds of records I’m all for it. The Victrola is a stunning looking turntable which is easy to setup and use, everything comes assembled (dust cover, stylus, tone arm) the only thing I needed to do make sure to put the belt in the correct place. The Victrola has a matte black finish with four total control buttons and 3 switches to help control speed, record size and switchable preamp setting. As the name states this is an automatic turntable so you don’t need to move the tone arm as its done with the simple push of a button, this also makes sure you don’t damage the stylus. Victrola has made everything simple even the Bluetooth function, after you power it on all you do push the power button and make sure your speaker is in pairing mode and the Victrola will connect to it automatically. Another notable feature is even after you turn the turntable off it will go back to your last setting (Bluetooth or hardwired) this feature even works after you unplug it from the wall which I was very surprised by. There is a built in preamp so you can plug in active bookshelf speakers. The Victrola Automatic does a great job with music, the sound is crisp and clean and the vocals sound exceptional. The stylus used is great and there was no jumping/skips on any of the records I played (size 7” or 12”) and the sound came out clear while on Bluetooth or hardwired. Me and my dad are enjoying playing all his old records from back in the 60’s. Overall, this is a great turntable that has a great look which fits anywhere with its minimalist look and easy to use. The automatic Bluetooth connection and the repeat feature are nice modern touches which makes this a must have if you’re in the market.

A Modern Twist on a Classic

This Victrola Automatic Turntable will bring you back to the classic with some modern tech. It came nicely packed but I immediately noticed how light it felt. It was extremely light and that only led to one thing, not a lot of components inside of it. The built quality in my opinion was ok. Mostly plastic besides the aluminum platter. If you never used a turntable in the past this one is fairly simple to use. I did encounter some issues during my initial setup. The belt that spun the plate was coming off after the record stopped. Also the timing was extremely off. After several attempts, I decided to flip the belt from the inside out, and that fixed both issues. What I like mostly about this turntable is that you are not required to have an amplifier to use it. You have the option to use preamp bookshelf speakers, and bluetooth speakers. I connected it to my Marantz and it worked perfectly. I also connected it to some of my Marshall’s bluetooth speakers and it sounds great. The simplicity of use can't be taken away. This device has 4 buttons, play/stop, arm raiser/lower, repeat power and two toggle switches for the speed and size of the record. Just set the record on the plate and hit play and the automatic arm will do the rest. When you stop the record the arm will retract itself. The Sound quality sounded great. In both wired and wireless. It actually brought back old memories. Overall the Victrola Automatic Turntable performs well and will be a good choice to enjoy your vinyl records. It will bring back old memories with modern technology. Automatic arm, simplicity to use, and the ability to be connected wireless can be widely adopted for anyone who doesn’t have an amplifier. Dispetie is not top notch built quality it does look great and sound great. Replacing the magnet cartridge is also a breeze. In the box you get the Turnable, power adapter, turntable platter, 45 RPM adapter, RCA cable and manual.

This was well packed and arrived safely. Unpacking was a simple job of sliding contents out of the box. Everything is pre-assembled – except for the platter – the dust cover is on, and the cartridge and stylus installed. Setup consists of placing platter on the spindle, pulling the belt over the motor pulley, and put on the platter mat. Remove the tone arm tie down and the tape from stylus guard, then carefully slide the guard off towards the front. The cover is removable if you prefer. The operation is straightforward, and can be used with blue tooth, switchable line or phono output. The turntable is fully automatic. There is a slide switch for size and speed. Tactile switches for raise / lower tonearm, start / end play, and even has a repeat function. On start, the arm raised and lowered very gently. On stop, the arm returned to park and the platter stopped. The mechanism worked very well, was very quiet, and eliminates the need to actually handle the tone arm. I tested using a powered set of bookshelf speakers, first with blue tooth, and then RCA line outputs. I could not check speed accuracy, however I didn't notice any flutter or rumble – the turntable seemed very quiet. This ships with an Audio Technica ATN3600L moving magnet cartridge installed, with frequency response of 20Hz-20kHz, and tracking force: 2.5 – 3.5 grams. I auditioned the sound quality using different types of music. First was Alan Parsons Project (remember them?), and also some classical with John Williams. Both albums are in pristine condition. First with blue tooth – and the blue tooth paired flawlessly. The overall sound was fairly good, but I did find the midrange a little forward. Then I used the RCA line output, and the sound was a little more balanced. The only negative I feel, is the lack of tracking force adjustment. This means you are limited to using the exact replacement cartridge. It cannot be up graded to a different cartridge. Overall though, this is quite a nice turntable with a lot of flexibility, and can allow you to enjoy albums again – or begin your own collection!.

Nostalgic Turntable With A New Feature!

This was my first time setting up and using a turntable and found everything to be simple and straightforward. Instructions with pictures were included in the box and were easy to follow. The turntable was ready to use in about 5 minutes. Victrola did a nice job in designing the turntable and the clear plastic dust cover gives a nice view of the vinyl disc while it's playing. The turntable also comes with a slip mat to place underneath the vinyl to prevent the vinyl from getting scratched and to ultimately reduce vibrations and audio skipping while in use. Although I did find it to reduce the amount of skipping in some of the music tracks I played, it didn't completely eliminate them. Every once in a while the music skipped and it helped to readjust the vinyl. It didn't happen too often, but I would like to point out it did occur. Bluetooth audio was very easy to set up and was recognized by my AV receiver within a few seconds. Audio was clear and brought a nostalgic feeling as we moved the turntable head to a different section of the vinyl to play specific songs. The replay feature is a huge bonus and when on, replays the entire vinyl without you having to move the turntable head. It automatically moves it to the beginning of the vinyl and plays the vinyl all over again. Another thing I liked about the turntable was that it has an auto shut off feature if the music is paused or nothing is being played. I noticed it turned off after about 15 minutes or so. Now for the cons. A cool thing about the turntable was that when you press the play button, the turntable head automatically moves to be in the correct position to play music from the vinyl. The problem with the unit I had was that it would get stuck at one point and would fail to continue. I would have to manually move the head to the correct position to continue. I believe this was a problem with my unit specifically, but wanted to point it out as a known, possible issue. Overall, I'm very happy with the Victrola automatic turntable and found it very easy to use. The replay button was very useful and if you're looking for this specific feature in a vinyl player, I would definitely recommend it. The only thing missing is a remote and a 30 second skip feature!

This is my second Bluetooth-enabled record player, and I must say, the differences between my old one and the Victrola VPT-800 are night and day. Right from the start, the setup process was a breeze. Setup of the Victrola VPT-800 is incredibly straightforward. Victrola seems to have taken all the guesswork out of getting this turntable up and running. For those who aren’t particularly tech-savvy or don't want to spend hours reading through complicated instructions, this is a huge plus. The instructions are easy to follow, they guide you through each step in a simple, logical manner. One of the most significant improvements with the Victrola VPT-800 is that it doesn’t require any fussing around with the balance of the tonearm’s counterweight. The Victrola VPT-800 eliminates all that unnecessary hassle. You simply plug it in, and it’s ready to go. I have a high-quality Bluetooth speaker that I use for most of my audio needs, and pairing it with the Victrola VPT-800 was incredibly easy. All I had to do was put my speaker into pairing mode, press the main button on the turntable once, and within seconds, they were connected. The first thing I noticed after pressing play was the sound quality. The difference is like night and day. With my old turntable, the sound was very tinny and quiet, I guess the old one needs a new stylus or was just plain defective. It sounds just as good if not better than my MP3's or streaming services. One feature I didn’t expect to appreciate as much as I did is the automatic tonearm. On my old record player, I had to manually lift and place the tonearm at the start of each record, and when the record was finished, it would just keep spinning unless I manually returned the tonearm to its cradle. While this might not sound like a big deal, it was one of those small annoyances that added up over time. With the Victrola VPT-800, pressing play automatically moves the tonearm to the correct position on the record, and when the record is done, the tonearm returns to its cradle. This might seem like a minor detail, but it’s these small conveniences that really enhance the overall listening experience. It just makes everything feel smoother and more polished. Also offered is standard RCA output, which gives you the option to connect it to a traditional speaker system if you prefer a wired connection. If you’re after a simple, great-sounding turntable that works right out of the box, this is the one!

The Victrola Automatic Turntable is a great starter turntable for those starting out and venturing into vinyl records like myself but I also think this is a great turntable for avid vinyl collectors as well due to the updated features. In the box it includes a pair of RCA cables, power cord/plug and felt slip pad. I like that it included the RCA cables because that’s one less thing I have to buy and these days most manufacturers don’t provide cables. Features of the Victrola Automatic Turntable include fully automatic playback and a continuos repeat function. Which I really like as your vinyl record will automatically repeat playback when the record has ended. Another updated feature is Bluetooth where you can either pair the turntable to Bluetooth speakers or a pair of headphones which really adds to convenience. The unit also has a removable dust cover if you prefer to leave the cover off it is a nice option. This unit is also has a belt drive motor which is silent in my opinion and has an aluminum platter. As far as the housing it is all plastic and honestly does look kind of cheap as the lettering and symbols on the buttons are printed on and seem like they will wear out with use. That is pretty much the only complaint I have about this turntable which is minor as it works and sound great. Another great feature is the turntable come with an Audio Technica AT-3600L moving magnet cartridge!

FINALLY ABLE TO HEAR THE MUSIC

I have records that I not listened to in years and if you loved music then you know that vinyl is one of the best ways to hear the true sound of music. The way that a record reproduces the actual sound and voice when listening to music is second to none. So, when I came across the Victrola Automatic Turntable, I could not pass it up. This unit plays both thirty-three and a half and forty fives. I took the chance on this turntable and I’m not looking back. Setup for the Victrola couldn’t be any more straight forward. I downloaded the Victrola app to my cell phone. Plugged it and when the light started flashing, I was able to seamlessly connect it via the app to my cell phone. Once connected, I linked it to my preferred blue tooth speaker. At this point I was ready finally listen to some of my long-lost albums. With the Victrola powered on I reached in the collection of vinyl and pulled out one of my favorites from the 70’s popped it on the turntable and that’s where the magic began. With a push of a button, this machine took over all of the action. It automatically put the needle at the beginning of the record and took over from there. Watching the action of the Victrola brought back so many memories of my younger years. The light crackle you hear as the needle moves along the record and the initial start of that very first note gave me chills. I haven’t hard music sound this good and clear in years. Now, having a good set of blue tooth speakers, you can really hear the music. There are different ways to connect to a speaker system such pre amp or blue too. My choice is blue tooth. As for the sound quality, voice sounds crystal clear and the music playing through a good set of speakers allow you to hear every single instrument. If you love music then you can never go wrong with vinyl and with the Victrola it really reproduces sound well. The sound that you hear I literally amazing music to your ears. In my opinion, if you are a music lover and have a nice collection of records, then the Victrola Automatic Turntable is for you. This record player is very affordable and will reproduce amazing sounds. Don’t take my word, just pick one up for yourself and you won’t be disappointed.

    Victrola Turntable - it's Automatic

I've been looking to have a turntable for a while now. This Victrola Automatic Turntable is so cool! Now I just need to start a larger vinyl collection! This has bluetooth capability, which I used to pair with a couple of bluetooth speakers I had. Set up was pretty easy - the first time I tried to pair them they wouldn't connect, but then I unplugged the turntable and the speakers and tried again and they connected immediately. Without the speakers the sound is pretty quiet, but you can connect them with an RCA cable, which is included or wirelessly through bluetooth. Nothing beats the sound of a record playing, and this turntable makes it so easy to listen to. When it's finished with playing the vinyl record it will automatically move the needle back to its home and turn itself off. Victrola has been around for a while, and makes a solid piece of equipment. I'm happy with the performance of this turntable and look forward to listening to more vinyl records on it. If you’re in the market for one that is easy to operate this is a good choice.

The Victrola turntable is an entry level turntable that offers Bluetooth functionality and is a great option for a beginner’s turntable. The Victrola is an automatic belt driven turntable. You can immediately tell this is an entry level turntable as everything is made out of plastic, with the exception of the platter and the arm. There are some handy features that can be useful such as the repeat button, and the play button that also acts as a pause button. The turn table can be hooked up to either a Bluetooth speaker/ headphone, or a stereo/receiver with line-in or phono. To my surprise there is no headphone input, so the only way you can use headphones is through Bluetooth. The sound quality is what you expect from a budget turntable, it’s not amazing by any means, but it works. In this case, it’s all going to depend on the speakers and/ the receiver you use. I connected this to a JBL authentic 300, I used an aux cable connected to a L/R audio adapter and plugged it into the record player. I was able to get some pretty good sound, especially with the treble and bass controls on the speaker. Next, I tried out some Bluetooth headphones to see how well they would work...To my surprise, I was able to connect them very easily with the push of the button. I used my Sony 1000XM3’s and while those headphones sound amazing with pretty much anything, the record player wasn’t the best. Without the option to adjust the EQ, the sound quality is bad, everything sounds flat and dull with almost no bass. Overall, the Victrola makes a good entry level turntable for anyone looking to get their first record player. They take out all the technical stuff and make it as easy as possible. There are some useful features like the repeat and play/pause buttons, and being able to use Bluetooth is nice feature for ease of use. I would recommend this as a beginner’s turn table.

I just got my Victrola Automatic Turntable about a week ago and have been testing it out. First off, it's been forever since I’ve even been around a record player, let alone used one. Having this turntable show up brought me back to simpler times—like digging through my dad's endless crates of old albums. Unboxing was easy, especially if you follow the manual. Just be sure to actually read it! In the box, you'll find the turntable, the platter, a 45 adapter, power adapter, and RCA adapter. Setup was pretty simple, though I did struggle a bit when trying to extend the band to the gold post so I could set the turntable in place. Took a few tries, but I finally got it. Once the platter’s on, just plug in the RCA cable in the back and flip the switch to Line or Phono, depending on your setup. Then you’re ready to go! Grab one of your favorite records and gently place it on the turntable. Hit the power button on the front panel. A white ring means it’s connected through the RCA cable, and a blue ring means you’re using Bluetooth—which is super cool! The Bluetooth feature lets you place the Victrola anywhere without worrying about extra cables or wires. I hooked it up to my JBL MA710 receiver via RCA, set it to Phono, and started it up. The play button starts the first track automatically. At first, I thought the up and down buttons were for skipping tracks (I imagined the arm would lift and move forward or back), but it turns out those buttons just lift the arm and return it to its base. There’s also a repeat button that replays the current track, which I think is why I assumed the other buttons were for skipping tracks. You can also change the album size and playback speed with a couple of switches. Overall, I’m loving this turntable. Once I double-checked the manual, it was super easy to use. It’s a great addition to my home theater and audio setup!

    Effortless vinyl listening

If you’re like me and enjoy the classic warm sound of vinyl, but also appreciate simple designs and technological advancement, you’ll appreciate the Victrola Automatic Turntable. I’ve used a few turntables in my day, and while this may not be a high-end audiophile grade turntable, I’m still impressed at how effortless the Victrola makes listening to records. After taking it out of the box, everything about this turntable was made with the ease of use in mind. The fully automatic playback system is a feature that I had no idea I needed until I tried it. The continuous repeat is my favorite feature on the Victrola. In short, the turntable can automatically repeat playing the record without end user intervention at all. This is ideal for situations such as parties where you’re looking for continuous music. It’s a simple feature, but really comes in clutch for different scenarios. When it comes to sound quality, the Victrola does exceptionally well. While I wouldn’t put it in the audiophile category, the AT 3600 moving magnet cartridge does a fantastic job at outputting great sound, uncommon for entry level turntables. I could clearly hear subtleties and depth in music that I’ve struggled to hear from compressed music on streaming services. It doesn’t matter if you’re listening to old or new records, the sound is clear and well defined. Setting up the turntable was incredibly simple, something I always appreciate with new electronics. There is a phono preamp built-in, so whether you’d like to take advantage of your own preamp, or the Victrola’s, the included RCA cable makes connecting to your sound system or speakers easy. On the other hand, if you don’t want to use cables, or need a more private listening experience, the Victrola can also connect using Bluetooth, allowing for a cable free listening experience. The design is simple and clean, being sufficiently contemporary and stylish. The included dust cover is nice to keep dust out of places where it will cause issues with your listening experience. All in all, I would highly suggest the Victrola to anyone looking for an easy to use, budget friendly, turntable. While it lacks some features and configurations of the higher end audiophile units, there are plenty of people that this turntable will be more than exceptional for. It’s easy to use, has good sound, and looks great. Whether you’re a casual listener or looking for an easy to use private listening experience, the Victrola has enough features to keep you pleased.

Fantastic record player! We got our daughter (14 years old at the time) an entry record player a couple years ago. She loves the warmth and "feel" of the sound of classic records. When the opportunity came for this Victrola Automatic Turntable, I jumped at it. It was a great opportunity for an upgraded record player for her. When we recieved it, I watched her up-pack it. Initial thoughts, this is a quality record player and a good choice for entry level to mid-high end user. Great standard consumer grade quality. As for set-up, it must be pretty easy. I let her go upstairs and within 15 minutes, she had it fully operational. She loved the ease of set-up and ease of use. As an American teenage girl, you should not be shocked to know that she LOVES that one American artist who is dating that one guy who plays for the football team in Kansas City... Well, after HOURS and HOURS and HOURS of continuoius listening to said artist, she LOVES this record player. End of the day, I would reccomend this player. This would make for a great gift for others or as a reward to yourself if you would like to enter into the classic world of old-school records.

This Victrola Automatic Turntable is an aesthetically pleasing, sleek, modern take on classic vinyl players. Sits beautifully in any surrounding setup as a modernized version of a classic appearing unit with the sound and playback features enthusiasts such as myself are craving out of a vinyl player. This unit features fully automatic operation which means the tonearm moves on its own, reducing any need for manual intervention during playback – this helps and makes things easier for anyone not fully fledged in the vinyl realm. The built-in Bluetooth connectivity allows me to wirelessly stream music to my external devices such as a large room amp, Bluetooth speakers, or my headphones. It should be noted that there’s no wired headphone jack which may make a difference to some as it might be nice to have that wired headphone jack if you prefer to use wired headphones, but in today’s market I’m not sure that anyone is without Bluetooth headphones. This turntable can handle 33 1/3 or 45 RPM records speeds, doesn’t rock 78’s so take note of that if you’re looking to play those as well. The built in RCA outputs are simple typical stereo output for connecting to your stereo system, but again, who’s not doing everything with Bluetooth these days? I really like the design of this unit. It has a simple, sophisticated design. It has a somewhat minimalistic design, but very sleek and classy looking so it blends well most modern home entertainment setups. Sound reproduction and quality coming out of this unit are top notch and really reproduce every bit of the music’s intended fidelity to perfection. The unit is constructed well of aluminum base and has a smooth, durable belt drive to ensure many years of worry-free durability to keep the tunes flowing without concern for any technical complications. I’ve really enjoyed this unit since adding it to my system and would definitely recommend to anyone looking to add the true sound quality and perfection of vinyl playback to their home audio setup.

I was excited to get my hands on this because we haven't played records in a while due to a not so great set-up for a record player with wires and speakers. Not that we have an extensive collection, but we do enjoy the sound vinyl produces. Adding to the collection seemed wasteful but now we're excited to go record shopping and add some pieces! Setup is very easy out of the box and the automatic nature of the turntable means that the arm will swing itself into position and lower, so you shouldn't have to touch the arm very often. You will need to manually select the size and speed, which is a simple slider switch. A remote control would be awesome but would likely raise the price point and isn't super critical when using physical media like a record that requires you to go up to the unit anyway when changing the album. But the part I was excited about is the Bluetooth connectivity. Location of the unit has become less important and allows for a lot of flexibility without the need to run wires or have additional speakers. We connected this via BT to our existing sound system and it works great! Just for fun we connected it to a portable BT speaker and it also worked well, so we'll be able to enjoy some records while sitting outside on the deck! Overall, this is a solid turntable that sounds great, is whisper quiet when operating, and allows for maximum flexibility in placement due to the BT feature. Very happy with this and definitely recommend for music lovers and especially those just starting out building a record collection!

The Victrola Automatic Bluetooth Turntable model VPT-800 is probably one of the simplest electronic items I’ve ever connected. The platter is the only item to be installed. The manual is very descriptive with pictures describing what to do. It connected with my Bluetooth speakers easily. Each time I turn the turntable on it reconnects to the speakers right away. The Victrola Automatic Bluetooth Turntable has a great feature…repeat. With the repeat button the turntable will just replay the side of the album you are listening to over and over. While you are busy doing the dishes or whatever the turntable just keeps going. Thus, no untimely breaks in music. Nice! One more thing I think is just fabulous, no app required! Two additional items; troubleshooting and support. When I first put the platter on the turntable and pulled the belt over the motor, it wasn’t spinning. It took all of two minutes to take the platter off and figure out the belt had fallen off the platter. Easy fix. Finally, I called customer support. Availability of support is an important factor. I was told to leave a message, and support would return my call. I left a message. I was very pleasantly surprised when I had a return call in less than 30 minutes and the support representative was polite, helpful and knowledgeable.

    Entry-level turntable. Not for audiophiles

If you are new to the world of record players, vinyl LPs and analog music, you might think this Victrola Automatic Turntable is a wonder to behold. But those of us who were around when this was about the only way to listen to recorded music will tell you it is not. To be sure, it does get the job done, in a manner of speaking, It is fully automatic, moving the tone arm and dropping the stylus in the right place with a touch of a button. And If you are not too fussy about music quality it sounds, well, OK. It does not rise much above that level because this thing is surprisingly primitive in some respects. The low-budget belt drive system has a difficult time delivering uniform speeds. That means you end up with a lot of what old school turnables techies would call wow and flutter. It's not terrible but it's there. Even worse, the included Audio-Technica cartidge and stylus are, to be charitable, very much entry-level stuff. (ie, you would be hard pressed to find one less expensive) Audiophiles will happily spend more on this one part than the cost of this entire turntable. Because a better cartridge produces better music. If you have a valuable vinyl collection, you also might think twice before risking it on this very basic turntable. It lacks all of the usual kind of adjustments that help reduce wear and tear on fragile vinyl. Any decent turntable, for example, would be designed so you could control the tracking of the tone arm, with adjustable counterweights to limit how much pressure is exerted on the record. It would also have an anti-skate control to dampen the inward momentum of the stylus as it moves toward the center of the record. The Victrola is entirely preset in this regard. One size fits all. Or at least you hope it does. That said, if you have a hankering to listen to your old LP collection again (it plays 45s too) this Victrola turntable can do it. Just dont expect too much. Any modern digital version of the same song will almost certainly sound better. Using the Bluetooth option, I thought the sound quality was a bit thin and brittle. A little raspy at times. You might get slightly better results using the other optoin: a direct wired connection via the included RCA cables. This approach seemed to produce sound that was a bit cleaner and fuller, but still not great. Unfortuately, such connections are pretty rare these days on standaline Bluetooth speakers (A "line/phono" switch allows the turntable to work with old school receivers and amps or powered speakers) Be aware the Victrola comes with some assembly required. The sturdy aluminium platter is packaged seperately for shipping and must attached by the end user. You also have to loop the rubber drive belt on the platter onto the electric motor capstan. It's not hard but some people don't like dealing with such things. Aesthetically, it's not a bad looking device, a throwback to how most turntables looked in 70's and 80s. It is just a big black plastic platform with soft sound isolating feet. There is a hinged smoked plastic cover that you can close when the record is playing. The only modern touches are buttons to raise and lower the tone arm (manual levers were used in the old days) and lighted ring around the on/off button that glows white or blue, depending on what mode you are usiing to connect to your sound system. There is also built in circuitry that mutes the sound while the tone arm is moving, being raised or lowered. This eliminates the low rumble and popping noise old-school turntable users remember when the tone arm was picked up and set down on the record. In the end, this Victrola is hard to recommend. It is a fairly primitive turntable whose low-end magnetic cartridge and stylus can't produce very good sound and lacks basic tone arm controls to protect your vinyl record collection. There are better options for less money.

I’ve had my old record albums stored in my basement for decades. I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of them and kept telling myself (and my wife) that I was going to buy a new turntable one day so I could enjoy them again. After an embarrassing number of years later, I finally got a new turntable. One of my obstacles to buying a new turntable was having to invest in decent speakers so I could fully enjoy the sound quality. This turntable from Victrola quickly resolved that issue. This turntable is Bluetooth compatible, and I have several high quality Bluetooth speakers in my house. Pairing my turntable with the speakers was relatively easy, so I was up and running in short order. Having speakers all around my house allows me to use my turntable in different room, thanks to its portability. I found the setup instructions to be lacking and somewhat vague. The illustrations were hard to decipher at first, but my familiarity with turntables helped me to git ‘er done. If I hadn’t already known that the turntable belt had to wrap around the motor spindle, it would have taken some head scratching. I think better illustrations would be helpful for first time users. Once the setup was complete, everything else is plainly covered in the manual. After the setup, the most difficult part was deciding which of my many vintage, long forgotten albums would I play first. Kind of Blue, by Miles Davis, obviously. After placing the disc on the turntable, I made sure the presets were on 12” and 33RPM (they were the default settings). Then, the hard part… Not really, I just pressed the PLAY button and three seconds later, the dulcet tones of arguably the finest Jazz album ever recorded were gracing my living room. On my turntable from forty years ago, I had to physically lift the tonearm and place it on the album. Not with this turntable. A simple press of the PLAY button and off we go. Now, if you wanted to listen to a particular track on the album, you still have to manually move the tonearm to the track you want to hear. This turntable offers a button that raises the tonearm off of the album (basically, a PAUSE button.) another press of the same button lowers the tonearm back to the album. The repeat button provides continuous play of the album or 45RPM. In today’s age of digital music that may not be a big deal, but for the generation who grew up with record players, it’s a welcome feature. Since I move the turntable from room to room, a locking device on the tonearm to secure it in place would have been nice. When moving the turntable for whatever reason, be sure to reattach the stylus cover. I have no idea what a new stylus costs these days, but a quality stylus was quite expensive back in the day. I would like to have seen a location to store the stylus cover, like there’s a location to store the adapter for 45s. Don’t forget to lower the dust cover when not in use. Dust is the enemy of precision electronics. In the end, I have to say that it is a real treat to have a turntable again! I can’t wait to go to my friend’s vintage music store to grab some new music. This turntable is a nice entry level turntable that I highly recommend. PROS: -I can play vinyl again! -Single button automatic play and repeat -Bluetooth compatibility -Portability - move it to any room thanks to bluetooth -Lift the tonearm with a button press (reduces record scratching) -Storage location for the 45RPM adapter CONS: -Better setup illustrations/instructions -Tonearm locking mechanism -A storage location for the stylus cover
