Cannot speak of product itself but "free" installation for totaltech members is a joke. Guy is late for 11am install. He immediately starts making excuses as to why he cannot install my remote start today when I've been scheduled for over a month. First it was "i need a t- harness" then it was " ill need to charge you for a relay" then it was "idk how you got free installation with your purchase but ill need to charge you for it". Serious issues with attempting to get out of doing my install. Guy with eyebrow piercing in auto install dept. @ New Braunfels TX best buy. Seriously disappointing service for totaltech members.

First of all my review has to include the installer at BB (Christiansburg, VA), went out of his way to include me in what he was doing and how to use the Remote. Very professional and knowledgeable about the product. The remote installed fairly easy and has performed as promised. It is easy to use and the range is more than I need to start my car. The only negative is that you lose the use of one of your key fobs, which is required to be used as part of the install. Overall, very satisfied.

I purchased my DS4 at the Springfield, IL Best Buy. Installation was prompt and professional, and I have had no problems with it. I purchased it with the fob upgrade to get 2 way communication and increased range. Advertised range is one mile. One caveat is that the rated range is based on a best case scenario - you're outside and within line of sight of the car (no buildings, etc. between.) My office is 1/3 mile away from my parking lot and I can't start my car from inside the building. When I walk 1/2 block (far enough to see the car), it will start. I have no problems starting it anywhere inside my house, church, or a store, etc. I do take exception to the advertised range of 150 feet using the bluetooth feature. Bluetooth technology is only good for about 30 feet, so the 150 foot range is totally unrealistic. That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. Since the fob range is a lot longer than that, the bluetooth is worthless, and I haven't even paired it. I have purchased the Smart Start module (not yet installed) primarily so that I can start my car from the office. Here's how it works with my car (2013 Kia Soul). Details will be different with each car. The Soul has an automatic headlight feature. If you keep your headlights switched on, they will turn on automatically when you start the engine and off if you press lock twice using the oem fob. That's what I do, since I like to keep them on all the time I'm driving. Also, all electronics come on when you start the engine. This is almost exactly the same using the remote start. The only difference is that if you lock with the Viper fob, it will turn the headlights off but not the courtesy lights. It still works as before if I lock with the OEM fob. If I have started my car via remote start, I must use the Viper fob to unlock the doors - OEM fob doesn't work in that case. Once I get in the car with the engine running, if I press the brake, the engine will turn off. This is an extra security measure, since the gear shifter is locked until you press the brake. However, once I turn the key in the ignition, then I can press the brake and the engine stays on. And there is no problem with turning the key too far and grinding the starter - the car's starter system is disabled if the engine is already running. So in summary, in general, the DS4+ works as advertised, and is really convenient. As far as the range is concerned, I don't know how accurate the rating is with the fob, since I haven't tried it where the car is a mile away and within line of sight. It's a given that the bluetooth feature is definitely not usable 150 feet away. That makes it worthless if you have a 2-way remote, but may still come in handy if you just use the included 1-way remote.

I bought this for my girlfriends 2005 Dodge Dakota. The tech wasn't able to get the parking lights to come on when it starts, so he up-graded it with a Viper 2-way Remote at half price. The 2-way remote is a great feature because the remote has a green light that comes on that verifies the truck has started. The fob that comes with this remote starter does not notify you that the vehicle has started. My girlfriend doesn't think the doors lock every time it's started, but we aren't in a high crime area so it isn't a big deal. She loves being able to start the truck remotely so she can get into a warm vehicle. I know some vehicles require the use of a spare key during installation, so it's a good idea to check to see if you will need to use a spare key for your particular vehicle. After purchasing online, you have an option to have the remote starter installed by Best Buy. When I set up the appointment, I was expecting to get an email to confirm the date and time of the appointment, but I didn't get one. I called Best Buy to confirm the appointment, and it was saved in their system. A confirmation email would have been nice, though. The remote starts the truck every time the fob is pushed and it has good range. The furthest she has tried starting the truck is about 100 yards from inside the office, without line-of-sight, where she works. I haven't tried using the bluetooth option for starting it. We've only had this installed for about three weeks, but we would recommend it to anyone looking for a remote starter.

Perfect On My 11 Fusion! Thanks Nick @ Manahawkin!

I got this on a Black Friday deal for $199 @ had it installed 2 weeks later on Dec 8th 1st appointment of the day. Nick at Best Buy Manahawkin was the installer. He was able to accommodate 3 requests I had - 1hr runtime, horn honk disabled & hooking up the rear defroster auxillary option. The whole install time took approximately 3hrs. Some vehicle owners mention the car shutting off when you open a door. The Ford remote start that the dealer installs does that too. This doesn’t happen with the DS4 on my ‘11 Ford Fusion SE. It works as expected. The only time the engine shuts off when something is opened is the hood which I totally advocate that feature. Like other reviews, the bluetooth range isn’t good. I consider that option a novelty that I honestly don’t use. I have the 7857v & 7756v 2 way remotes paired to the DS4. I don’t use the one way one button remote it came with. The range isn’t good, it’s one way, you lose the trunk pop function, the button combos to execute a command can be confusing & it can only control one vehicle. I highly recommend the 7857v 2 way remote and/or the 7756v 2 way remote which I also did reviews on. If you have a 7856v 2 way remote, I can confirm it WILL WORK. Nick @ Manahawkin Best Buy did everything flawlessly & I’ll be back to see him soon when I get the DS4 installed on my mother in law’s vehicle. :-)

Good Remote Starter with a Tips

Overall, the remote starter works as intended. Here are a few things you should know ahead of time. As stated, the remote that comes with the package is a 1-way remote. This means that you won't know if your vehicle actually started when you press it. This will work fine for many people, especially if you can see your vehicle from a window. (Viper sells a 2-way remote as well that is not included. I did add this product on during installation. It works great, has a longer range than the original remote, and it gives you a confirmation that the car started. It even blinks every few seconds to let you know your vehicle is still running. While this isn't necessary to purchase, it is a nice feature for those who would like it.) The Smart Phone feature only works within range of the bluetooth connection, which is very limited. (You can purchase a GPS add-on to create an "unlimited" range, however there is the cost of the add-on along with a monthly fee for this.) GM Vehicles have a security feature that will disable the OEM fob's lock and unlock buttons while the vehicle is running. This means that you can't use your OEM remote to unlock the vehicle after remote starting it. Not a big problem because you will have the Viper remote (which will be able to unlock it with an extra press of the button), but this is something to keep in mind if you were planning to use the 3x lock-to-start function. You can ask your technician to set the Run time however you'd like. I'd recommend mentioning this if you're interested in a longer run time before it shuts back off. One last thing I'd like to mention is that the single-button remote that is included does not have a dedicated Aux function button. So while you will be able to start your vehicle to get it to heat up, you won't be able to turn on your vehicle's rear-defrost remotely. (They do sell other remotes that include this function for those interested, but keep in mind that is another additional cost.)

Works as described. A really good option on a budget. If it had a few more programmable options in the app it would get 5 starts. In a 2016 Honda Odyssey with a push button start, the engine shots off when you open the door. It’s a good safety function, however, I wish it could be tied to the push button start rather than the dome light.

Best remote start out there have this in four of my vehicles. (Harness sold separately) The only thing to keep in mind is the phone option. Yes it comes with a free version of the app which is absolutely worthless. 95% of the time it will not work unless you are 5 feet away for the car. The free app is great for emergency reasons like if you lock your keys in the car. If you want full use of the app you MUST buy the app add on which is about an additional $200 + $100 a year for the service.
