Very displeased. Not easy to figure out how to use

I got the camera because it was a good price for what I wanted to do. I wanted to attach it to the bottom of my drone and get some aerial shots in 1080p so I already went into this without having high expectations for the 4k recording ability. Now my main problems with this camera is the battery. The battery on this camera is a hit or miss and I think it may have something to do with the firmware or how it records to the SD card. I recorded in my car using an insignia GoPro accessory kit and selected the Car option on the camera at 1080p which flips the recording upside-down for you. It recorded a solid 45 minutes and had some battery left to spare. Then the next day after a night of charging it, I ended up doing the same thing again but this time the battery only lasted about 15 minutes. I figured buying another battery could be in order but I did more testing. While at work I charged the camera up and recorded again on my way home. I noticed the screen shut off but the red light was still blinking letting me know that it was still recording. I would assume that there could be an issue where in some cases the screen stays on while recording at times which will most likely drain the battery even quicker. I think there should be an option to keep the screen on or shut it off while recording using the button function at the top level of the UI. The other thing that I have run into was the way the videos are stored on the SD card like I mentioned in the above. Firmware update could resolve this. When I plugged the camera in to view what I had recorded, I noticed that there were a ton of captures. It seems as though it records a bunch of separate 20-40MB recordings rather than one continuous recording. I was baffled by this a lot and was still skeptical about the way it recorded so I went ahead and recorded some more just to confirm. This past weekend I recorded myself doing a couple upgrades to a car and in the 30 minutes that I was out there the camera battery lasted 15 minutes on a full charge (charged the battery for 2 hours) and the recording light stopped blinking. I thought that it was a fluke so I powered the camera up once again and then it immediately shut down. I plugged the camera into my laptop to review the recordings to see where it stopped at and again I was greeted to about 5-6 new separate recordings to look through for that one recording. So, as for a solid review on this, for the price, pretty reasonable for something that records in upscale 4k. That alone makes it a good deal when it is on sale. Build quality, I cannot say that I wouldn't get mad if it were to break while I was doing something extreme but I would not buy another one for a replacement. Comes with a good amount of attachments and it is also a good thing to know that I can interchange some of the GoPro accessories to it and not have problems. File management, pretty annoying and I stress again that a firmware update can resolve this. Even cheaper action cams receive firmware updates via social networks. Just keep the recordings in 1 solid file instead of multiples for a single recording over 5 minutes long. Video is good and sound is good although I am a little iffy on the waterproof enclosure it comes with because when I had the camera mounted in my car, it sat right above the car speaker and you could hear the music crystal clear. I would hold off on going diving with the camera. It is a good camera for anyone in the beginning stages of trying to get into action cameras. For the avid film enthusiast or professional, eeehhhhhhh you may need to lower your expectations quite a bit.

Pros: 1080p recording, can be controlled wirelessly through a phone app or the included 'watch'. Cons: Not compatible with standard tripods without an adapter and the 'watch' controller doesn't work that great for me, might need to replace its battery. I wanted a compact video camera to record model train layouts from a passenger's perspective. At only 2.5 inches wide it's perfect for my O scale layout.

We bought our daughter a cheaper version of this camera for Christmas and it wouldn't even turn on. We exchanged it for this one and it works but has a bad battery. After charging fully it only lasts 10 minutes. I contacted vivitar after seeing their replies here and they are no help. Was hoping they would send a new battery, but wanted me to return the 1 day old defective camera to them and pay for the shipping. Then they would fix or replace the camera and ship it back. Will be looking for a different brand. It's too bad this would be perfect if it worked for the price.

Bought this camera a little over a year ago. Video quality is okay for the price. It helps that you can pair the camera to your phone to make changing settings easy. Audio quality is also fair for the price. My biggest complaint is the battery life. Even when It started out, the battery life wasn't great. after a year of very light usage, the battery will only hold a charge for maybe 10 min. Battery is removable but I can't even find a replacement battery. Overall, I would suggest looking for a camera with better battery life or an easily replaceable battery

Horrible battery life. You get about 17 minutes on an hour charge time. So basicly as soon as you unplug this from the charger, turn it on, connect to wifi clip it into whatever holder you are putting it in, record for about 11 min and it's dead. Not recomended. Also when you connect to this camera WiFi you can't connect to your own home network.

Received this item when expected and had just enough time to charge one battery. Headed out kayaking with it just hours after getting it. Easy to use and set up. Video quality is excellent.

as with most of the reviews, charged for about 4-5 hours. hard to navigate thru the settings, off a full charge my battery lasts for 20ish minutes. the wifi is horrid you cannot connect to your home network when using the wifi. i have already returned one and will be returning this one as well. dont waste your money. save up and get a gopro.

Listen! Battery is BAD!! If you only want to record a 15-20 min video buy it and if you want to use your phone with it, trust me it will last less than 12minutes. Why you want something like this? Video Quality is pretty good for that price that’s why I gave 2 stars.

I charged the camera over night and the next day i took it off the charger to record. It recored for 15minutes and died.

Very impressed! A tiny camera that's easy to operate and does what I expected. Haven't tried the waterproof yet. Remote works great!

This is an excellent action camera, especially for its price range. This product also comes with many accessories. Worth a buy!

The video and camera work great but the battery sucks it gets hot and now it doesn’t even work I’ve had my camera only a few months

I was really excited about this because I had been looking for an acton camera that was affordable for quite a while. Unfortunately I made the wrong decision by buying this camera. 1. I got it so i could film my jumping rounds/cross country but I found that it was incredibly difficult to use. The remote that it comes with is pretty much useless since the camera randomly turns off and I can't tell when the video is going so I often found myself stopping the video when I wanted to start it 2. I tried using the app on my phone as a remote but when the camera randomly shut of, the wifi would disconnect... and it's difficult to reconnect it/fiddle around with it while on a horse 3. After I finally came up with a way to easily start/stop videos, I was excited to see what exactly the camera could do... I took it on trail and paid attention to the battery and all that jazz, taking a video and then turning it off so the battery wouldn't die. When I got home to see the videos I had taken, I was incredibly disappointed. The quality was very very low and the video would just keep cutting out. I honestly don't know if it's just a me problem, but this camera really did not work out for what I wanted and the final straw was the low quality videos.

Amazing camera! Easy to figure out. Took it out first day and got some great footage, underwater and above!

Bought two of these for Christmas gifts and neither of them will hold a charge for longer than 10 mins. Now that Best Buy has the worst return policy ever, I wish I had purchased them from Walmart instead so that two teenage boys wouldn't be devastated. Great camera if it comes with a good battery.

Just starting with making videos why spend 500 on a gopro, with out any accessories. this has everything I need to start with 1 10th the price. Very happy with my new Camera.

Camera works great. I took it camping, biking, and jogging. Didn't think it will take good video at night but it did. I'm very happy with the product.

Great action camera. I like to buy alot of different kind of action but this one is the best one I have so far. I like it the graphics is good and clear. Better than the recent one I had.

This thing works great! Picture and video quality is good and sound quality is good as well. Definitely exceeded my expectations being significantly less costly then the competition.
