Slow and buggy software & 4 noticeable marks

Don't trust the overly positive reviews. There are much better options. I had purchased this TV and returned it for the same model, so my criticism is based on 2 of these TVs which was consistent enough for me to take the second back and get a Samsung. The problem with the first Vizio started right away at the setup stage. It would recognize my wireless router but it would get an error upon connecting and show it as not connected, however, skipping this step to the home screen eventually showed my router anyway in the top corner of the interface. I opened the Netflix app to test the connection and the TV froze. The TV was unresponsive to the power button on both the remote and the button on the TV so I had to force unplug. When I re-plugged I had to wait before the TV responded to the power button. Finally, I was at the home screen and I seemed to be connected to my wireless router despite that error message last time that said I wasn't. Netflix started successfully this time but then another problem; there were 4 dark spots that shaped a medium sized rectangle in the middle of the screen. I guess it has something to do with the backlight technology. It was extremely noticeable on grayish tones. I took it back for number 2. Once again I got the network error. Once again it crashed at the app startup. Oh and those 4 spots. I see them on this one too. I updated the software to the latest and did a factory reset. This fixed the wireless connection error upon startup and every app seemed to work fine except Netflix. The Netflix app was getting a network error. I called Vizio customer support and the representative and I did EVERYTHING. He told me to try Netflix support or possibly get a replacement. This was the replacement. Netflix couldn't fix the error. Basically this TV wasn't going to have Netflix unless I bought a Roku stick and skipped on Vizio's awfully slow Smartcast software (Roku is leaps beyond Smartcast, btw). Even if the software on this TV worked flawlessly, you still might get those 4 dark spots. I took it back and got a Samsung but if you are trying to keep costs down I recommend the Roku TCLs.

I finally gave in an upgraded my 6 year old flat screen for a smart TV. I was using a roku device and it got the job done but seeing that this TV had voice command capability it was a big selling point for me. The 40 inch is great for a bedroom and I think the sound is great for a bedroom. I read some reviews didn't prefer the sound but I can see in a living room or larger space you may want to have more amplified sound, get a sound bar. Here is why I knocked off one star. The Alexa voice command capability sucks. I followed all instructions on how to set it up and nothing worked. It says it's connected to my Alexa, it's not. I reached out to support who said it takes a few days for the software to update. Still had not. Luckily have a Google assistant as well and if you don't you can use your phone by downloading the app. It instantly found my TV and connected on it's own, I'll need to play around with it more to see what else it can do. For the Alexa this tv doesn't seem to cut it but using Google assistant it's great. Many apps don't have a download capability directly on the Vizio like Spotify but casting it from your phone or device you'll see it on the TV, once you play a song it will say available devices and select tv and it will stream it instantly, where you can use Google assistant to change the song or playlist etc... Vizio please work with Amazon on how to better connect their device. Hope this helped you!

I've been enjoying this display so much. For full hd its really one of the best ive seen. I haven't noticed much input lag, has a great response time. The picture always looks great, even with fast moving scenes. Also the smart features are soo great. First being able to cast your video or music from damm near any app with a tap of a button. But also i can tell my google assistant on my phone or Google home to play netflix or music to my tv and it will turn on the display and start playing the content just with your voice. Wonderful. My only con with this tv comes with the audio. First i don't even use the tv speakers. I use the audio out to connect external speakers which works great. I can even change setting to control the volume of the external speakers with my tv remote. Or the app lol Buttt the problem comes when I'm streaming youtube from the tv's app. The audio sounds crackly and honestly pretty bad. Music is a no go. But that just the tv youtube app. If i use youtube on my xbox it soumds just fine. So a small complaint. But its so nice and easy to stream youtube from your phone. But it opens the tv youtube app when you do that

This is my second Vizio this decade. First one was a good 55". This time I have learned my lesson on big TV's in small rooms so I got this 40. Picture is amazing. With the 120hz refresh it should be a good gaming monitor as well... That was the main purpose of it, for my gaming rig. Not too big... Too big and just watching Soap Opera's is like watching a tennis match, twisting your head back and forth to see what the other person is saying... I will update this after I get my rig built. Be sure to hook your HDMI cable up before putting this sucker on a wall mount. You will not be able to reach it, or see the plug when it is mounted. Ask me how I know... Picture is awesome and menu speed is good as well. Seems to boot up fairly fast and pace with using the remote is quick.

    Great TV for Great Price

Bought this tv for my bedroom and wasn’t sure if I was going to completely enjoy it since it was not terribly expensive and I’ve never tried a “smart tv”. Not only is the tv an amazing price but the picture quality is on point and I love being able to press a button that jumps straight to Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime. I have my PS4 hooked up to it and it sounds like it’s not “that big of a deal” but the fact that when I start it and the tv instantly turns to the hdmi output the PS4 is hooked up to is kind of awesome. Idk how the internet connection is if the tv is in a different room as the modem since my modem is directly below but with all that sad, not only would I recommend(and have) this tv but ill likely buy another one for another room of my house.

If you want strictly HD viewing it will do well enough, HOWEVER... if classics broadcast shows is your thing, its a mess. No amount of adjustments will make Moe, Larry and Curly watchable, and you will go blind if you try. The Magnificent Seven becomes the dreadful seven, and there is no option to change aspect ratio or scan rate. Sound is ok. The TV will nag you to accept Vizio and Google Use and Privacy agreements that only a corporatre lawyer could understand. Likely I'll be returning before the 15 days are up. If I find a magical adjustment in the settings so my eyes don't bleed, I'll update.

Hello LittleTimmy, Thank you for the feedback. A few things that might help you get the kind of picture quality you are looking for. First, make sure the Display is getting a hi-definition or 4K signal. This means making sure that you're source device (like a cable/satellite box) is capable of HD or 4K, and that it's connected to your Display with an HDMI cable that can deliver the HD or 4K picture. You can also change between pre-set picture modes on the display by pressing the PIC button on your remote. This will toggle between a few picture setting that look good in different situations. If your display is in a bright room try Vivid or Calibrated. If it’s in a dimmer room try Calibrated Dark. VIZIO

This is a nice TV at the full price that I paid 229. The Audio Out is variable (selectable) from the tvs remote. I needed this as i am using this for multiple inputs and one audio receiver/amp that has no hdmi inputs (old receiver). I have a pc and regular coax cable as inputs both work well. i have used the tv as a netflix source and it works but the pc is the only way to go as far as netflix watching. But that is true for any tv/vcr. They just dont compare to a pc. I have one other Visio TV and it has been reliable for 6-7 years. I have never heard this tv's speakers as I muted them during setup. This TV did what I needed...full control of audio output and option to mute TV speakers.

When I bought this Tv it was a steal, I bought a tv for Black Friday but it was damaged when I inboxed it. So the next day when I returned the broken tv they were putting this back on the floor with an open box sale, the tv is normally 260$ I believe and got it for 183.99$ so for that price alone was amazing and I had to have it. This is my first Vizio and it won’t be my last, great picture quality after some adjusting, and if you notice that the voices from the tv don’t match the lips/mouth simply go to audio option from the menu button and switch your digital audio out to PCM and it’ll be fixed.

Got this Vizio to replace an old 42” Philips plasma 1080p set in the bedroom. Saw the Vizio at Costco but they stopped carrying it right after Christmas. Found it at Best Buy for a few dollars more. Ordering was quick and easy. Setup was simple. Not one glitch! Connected easily to our WiFi. Setup was a breeze. The picture just doesn’t look right. No matter which setting I use it just looks… odd. The vivid setting is too… vivid I guess? All the other settings are too dark. I’m ok with the audio but wifey hates it. We are returning it today. That’s been easy so far. Printed out a return label that has all the info on it. We’ll see how it goes.

Vizio's free streaming content alone makes this an interesting purchase option, and it was something I was unaware of when buying this model. Throw in support for many streaming services, USB thumb drive playback, built in PLEX support and the fact that this model does not have the Advertising ID that Smart TV's with a full OS have (Samsung & LG so far, soon to be probably all smart tv's) and I'm thoroughly satisfied with this purchase. Oh, and the screen quality for a 1080p is excellent, fully visible in our well lit living room and at night, and with an added soundbar the experience is complete!

I purchased this TV to use streaming only in my kitchen (no cable hook up). The picture quality is good and the speakers are plenty loud enough but lack any sort of low frequency response. It’s been a long time since I had a tv which didn’t have an external dedicated audio system and now I remember why. The physical depth of the TV is a little deeper at the bottom than I would have liked so it mounts further from the wall than ideal, but it has gotten the job done of providing something to do while washing dishes. The unit also takes a little longer to boot up than I would like (my main Sony tv is almost instant and this is like a min)

We recently 'cut the cord' and bought this TV, along with an indoor/outdoor antenna, to replace the old one in our kitchen. Set-up was easy, but it wouldn't pick up the local over-the-air TV stations; and yes, we had the antenna set-up correctly because the other TV's in the house were able to get local channels. The channels we were able to get had a 'dull' appearance with some shows. It also had the old Hulu app so we weren't able to watch Hulu w/Live TV. We ended up returning the TV and purchasing a 4K, which we have been really happy with.

This is my second Vizio TV. The first one is still working very well after four years. I considered some products priced a bit less than this one in the same category and saw some reviews that were not very good.. I spent just a bit more for this Vizio than the lowest priced products and have had a great experience. The built in ROKU feature is very well executed offering a huge number of choices organized in an engaging way. I have a ROKU 4 on another TV and good experience with ROKU was another reason to pick this VIZIO. Hard to believe all of this comes at such a low price.

I bought this TV simply because I “ thought “ it had access to the internet ( like the old Web TV back in the day ). The good part is that if you are a person that likes and uses apps like Netflix and many others, you will be in heaven because this TV does have tons of apps. The bad part is ( for me personally ) is that I don’t really need all these apps, and do not want to pay for a monthly fee either. The picture quality is great at 1080p, and the sound is pretty loud. I had the volume at 50 and it was too loud.. other than not having a web browser and too many apps I will never use, its a great HDTV for the great price.

Replacing our household items after we lost everything in the Camp Fire was a daunting task. Purchases that used to have us excited, like buying a new TV, are like chores, something we just have to do. Well, we love this new TV. The colors are vivid and the picture sharp. We really didn’t put much thought into what TV we purchased, so I must say I am very happy we lucked out and bought a good one. It is nice to have some of the comforts of home again. Looking forward to watching lots of great TV!!

Caught this one in deal of the day add and it was worth every penny! It has, in my opinion, a better quality picture than my larger 4K RCA! 1st smart tv and we get a lot of use out of the Hulu, prime, etc. apps. too! We quit paying for cable way back! This is my 2nd Vizio and I’ve been impressed with both. 1st vizio was 42”. I lost it to an ex 4 yrs ago. It’s at least 12 yrs old and as far as I know...it’s still kickin! Vizio is a quality 2nd choice when ur 1st might be a Bravia and pockets aren’t that deep!

I had to replace a broken television during the weekend after Black Friday. I was still able to get a discount on the weekend after the shopping holiday, and earned points on my Best Buy card. This product works well, and is in my 14 year old step sons room. He loves the smart tv, and the graphics are great for movie watching and gaming. We got a great price and was able to add a fire stick, and tv strap to secure it to his dresser, and still stay under the budgeted amount we planned to spend. The staff were really helpful and efficient and made our trip a short one.

Definitely worth the money. I was looking something for my loft. I didnt want anything too big and def not too small, and also affordable. This tv is perfect. The image is great. Since i am not in the room all the time i didnt want to hook up a box or anyhitng like that, it being smart worked out even better. i can watch netflix or many other apps to choose from. No problem getting wifi from the attic to the 1st flr (where router is). Very happy with my purchase.

I don't know where to begin, this TV constantly amazes me with its technology and abilities. The chromecast features are fantastic. The apps allow you stream more content than you could watch. Netflix, Hulu, YouTube are but a few of the apps programmed on the TV. Its worth 3x what I paid for it. The speakers are not great, so bought a sound bar to get better volume and bass. The picture is great and will not disappoint.
