It's been 2 years since I purchased this TV and it is the best TV I have ever purchased. The picture quality is so clear and sharp. The sound quality is also to of the line. In 2 years I have had zero issues with this TV.

Nice picture quality, though HDR does not get bright enough with specular highlights (but that's expected for the price point). The firmware (from Feb. 2021) was initially glitchy with the volume control response delayed for 5 or more seconds after pressing up or down (very annoying). However, that has since been resolved with a new firmware update (else the rating would have been bumped down to 3 stars). Now everything is responsive as it should be. The Vizio Smartcast is slow and has limited apps. But you do get the major ones such as Plex, HBO Max, Disney +. For some reason Disney + was limited to only 720P (not sure why since the TV is capable of 4K). I would suggest opting for an external streaming device like a Apple TV 4K or Fire TV for a better experience that utilize the TV's 4K capabilities. Alexa features works well which will allow you to turn on\off the TV, select inputs, and raise\lower the volume with your voice. I use Plex but also tried using the USB port to play movies via USB key. But that is very limiting and clunky so I don't advise anyone to use that feature. This is as basic as can be for a 4k HDR TV. But for the price, it does an OK job especially since the firmware updates.

Had to purchase this last minute for a home office setup (I work in producing/editing/AV), and was excited to get a Vizio for such a great deal, especially since I have Samsung everywhere else in the house, and this would have the Smartcast features and access to Peacock (which Samsung does not support).
My first experience was with HORRIBLE sound quality, and I had to return the item. It was the worst sound I've ever heard, like a McDonald's drive thru whenever anyone spoke, and it was clearly a defective item. I returned, and Best Buy was great about opening and testing the second product with me in the store to be sure it didn't have the same issue. Sound was fine.
Now, I've noticed what is apparently a known problem with this model....EXTREME lag in the remote signal. I turn the TV on, and it takes 10+ seconds to respond and boot up. If you're not paying attention, you'll think you didn't hit the button or point it at the receiver straight on enough, but nope, you did, it's just lagging. I have to remember to hit the power button ONCE, then if nothing happens within 10-15 seconds try it again, otherwise a second hit will just be powering it off. It seriously takes forever.
Additionally, the volume button in conjunction with the built-in Vizio streaming apps is ridiculous. As we know, sound bounces around on many streaming platforms, the opening scenes will be quiet, then the title sequence will kick in and blast you, and if you're trying to be mindful of noise for neighbors or those you live with, you want to be able to quickly control the volume. Well, NOPE! Same issue with the remote lag is that it doesn't read volume ups and downs, and will take even longer (20-30 seconds sometimes) to read and change. You end up having to mute, because for whatever reason that works faster, until the remote signal catches up to how many times you hit the volume up or down buttons. The issue is discussed by many people upon a quick google search and supposedly it resolves itself if you buy a Roku or an Apple TV to use those higher quality apps instead to stream, but it's pretty disappointing to find out on your second TV of this model, you have to take it back again, or just buy a secondary streaming device.
I am keeping the TV because picture quality is fine, the price is what I can afford at the moment on short notice for my job, and I don't want the hassle of hauling another one back to the store, I seriously don't have time for that. But wanted to make this issue known for others. If you already have an Amazon Fire, a Roku, or an Apple TV you plan to use, then this TV will be a great option, and the smartcast feature is really nice to have when connecting other devices, such as ipads, laptops, and HBO Max (must be powered by a phone app and cast), so there are definitely still some pros.

Purchased to use as my desktop monitor and it has been great in that capacity. Alot of useful features and apps. Good Picture settings for those who want control of the display. Not a gamer anymore but would have no complaints on using it for that. impressed with the picture quality And the price made it a no brainer for me. Only issue I have is the remote for this TV and the remote for the other TV(Lg) in my room interact. No so much an issue in my case but could see it being frustrating for some else. I'm sure there is a possible workaround for that tho.

We have only watched this TV a couple of times because it is at our lake house. I was disappointed that I couldn't add any apps to the TV. Wanted to load Dish Anywhere directly to the TV, but was able to get through a Fire Stick. This week end the volume was acting up. It wouldn't increase or decrease. Turning the TV off and back on seemed to work, Overall we don't use everyday so it will be fine for what we need.

Love this tv. Using it on my desk for a gaming monitor and it’s amazing. Would look great in a small bedroom for sure it’s very lightweight and has plenty of apps on it you don’t need a steaming device unless you want to add your own content it’s locked to Vizio’s software & apps but it’s not that bad compared to some “smart tv’s “ and has Apple air play and smart cast (Chromecast) built in. So far so good. 4K looks beautiful and 1080p isn’t that bad when 4K isn’t available for what Your watching. For the money (200$ish) you can’t go wrong

This is an excellent buy for us. This is the second Vizio TV we purchased from Best Buy. We have a 50 inch for our living room and we update our bedroom with the Vizio 40" 4K. it is just the right size for our bedroom. We are currently thinking of buying a sound bar for our new 40" Vizio. The price of the 40" was a great buy for us during this Covid-19 Pandemic which has been hard for us. We are also happy with Visio products.

Wow, this TV is better than I thought it would be- it's excellent IMO. I'm a big Sony and Samsung fan, but for the price... I don't think anything can touch the quality, speed, and functionality of this brand (at least in this size). The picture is great, the TV was inexpensive, the Wi-Fi connectivity is very good and is both 2.4 and 5GHz compatible. I use 5GHz in my home and this TV is fast on all fronts. It's a must buy IMO.

I had a nice 1080p television for years, and honestly never cared too much about 4K until I ended up with a PlayStation 5. Once I got it, I wanted to make sure I was utilizing its features as best as possible, so I decided to upgrade to a 4K.
I decided to go with this option because it was inexpensive, the size was what I needed, and it came from a brand I'm familiar with.
I'm going to be completely honest with you: between the 1080p screen and this one, I could barely tell that there was a difference. Playing the same game on the same console, I genuinely had a difficult time distinguishing differences in picture quality between the screens. The colors on this one are great, but so were the colors on the old one. Similarly, contrast on this one is great, but same goes for the old one. Honestly, I kinda wish I hadn't bothered purchasing it, but there was no way for me to know til I'd already dropped the cash.
You might be wondering why I left 5 stars, given the content of my review. That would be because I think that this is a great television. It's got great picture quality, connectivity, it has HDR, and it's a good screen to buy, especially for the price.
Truthfully, I'm disappointed by 4K. It's not much of an upgrade, in my opinion. The improvement in quality is minimal, so if you have a working 1080p screen that's still going strong and looks good, I'd recommend holding off on buying 4K unless you're going for an OLED screen, or something to that effect. However, I'm not disappointed by this TV. It's a great option for many applications!

40" Diamond in the rough... a total GEM!

This 40" Vizio Class V-Series LED 4k TV is a GEM! I have a PC hooked up to it running 4K UHD @ 60p... AMAZING picture once you enabled the proper refresh rate (59.94 hz) in your graphics card settings and enabled chroma 4:4:4 on the TV itself. Text and colors render beautifully.
I have an XBOX Series X hooked up to it as well and it supports every feature of the XBOX (green check marks) except 120hz. The picture rivals that of TV's costing 4 or 5 times as much... Mine didn't have edge bleeding or splotchy uneven backlighting, it's near perfect... Dolby Vision on this is super nice -- I could hardly believe what I was seeing! Crisp clean picture with dark darks, and just the right amount of color saturation and contrast.
The "smart" features of the TV work very well... Netflix, YouTube, hulu, etc. and they all support 4K.
R-tings rated this set as the best 40" gaming TV so that should tell you this thing is legit in terms of input lag and picture quality.
The only cons for me are that the SD/HD upscaling isn't very good -- very pixelated and blurry images, and the speakers are only so-so (although, not bad for a built-in!).
The price is basically a steal... feels like you stole a stole a $1K TV.

Got this for a small office/game room/man cave and loving it so far. Got it mainly for gaming and it does not disappoint. Have a short viewing distance so the size is perfect. This is our 4th VIZIO TV and not one has ever broken down or lost any of its original quality; our oldest Vizio is 13 years old, hopefully this lasts as long. For the price, it’s a totally recommended and awesome 4K TV. The streaming menu is horrible, just use a streaming box or gaming console; remote is basic but, who cares?

I picked this tv up to replace a 720 tv that I had in my bedroom for the last decade. This tv is in the goldilocks size in my opinion for a bedroom. The picture is good enough for what I use it for and probably far better than I need. The smart features work well, although it currently does not have an hbo max app. This tv will not compete with high end sets and its hdr performance is not great because it does not have local dimming zones. But for the price and size it was a great choice!

Was very easy to assemble legs and hook up hdm1 and power code. The problem began when I had to integrate direct-tv and vizio remote controls to operate in sequence. I made the mistake of calling a direct tv tech. support rep and was led on an over 2 hour odyssey of grasping at straws. First I had to take all wires, cables remote device for DTV to a level I can only describe as very frustrating and fruitless effort. I thought there was something wrong with my new purchase. they DFTV offered to send a rep tech to our house I said forget it and called Vizio the 877 number on quick connect pamphlet. After pressing proper source/info button I was connected instantly. I must use Vizio remote for apps and volume control and DTV remote for channels. Very temperatmental smart tvs every set has different installation routine. Samsung I have was much easier. Hope I have no further issues picture is beautiful but also make sure 1080i is reset on Satelte TV. Remote is rather small.

Sound quality on mine was really bad at times (vibrating, muffled noises.... when there was background music it vibrated so much that the dialog was hard to hear). Not sure if this was a problem with my just my set or it was designed with cheap speakers.
Picture quality was really nice and I like the apps. I would have liked to keep the TV if it werent for the sound, but the sound quality is a deal breaker.
The TV was lightweight and a perfect size.
Very good picture quality, espeically for the price point.
The only other issue was the navigation was tough to use, poorly designed...15 options that you have to scroll thru by clicking the input button.

Wish I could Have used it. Those silly feet they put on these won't for our current large bookcase with place for a TV. Our current older 40" Sony I wanted to replace has a bottom that will fit any opening. I wanted the 4K Visio but if it won't fit in the space just because of the silly feet that are so wide, what's the point?
