I rarely find a reason to write a review but this is one of those rare occasions, this soundbar is just fantastic. Build Quality - A+ Versatility - A+ Sound Quality - S Tier if you want better sound from a soundbar, its going to cost 3x as much and at that point, you're just better off building a proper home theater setup.

    Excellent Sound...When It Works

I would easily give this soundbar four, perhaps even five stars, given its price (and I paid full price, not the new, lower price). Unfortunately, it has a major issue for which I must give it only stars. The ARC/eARC HDMI port (or perhaps even the hardware that controls it) is wonky, to say the least. The audio will often cut out, even refusing to output altogether at times. Muting and unmuting sometimes works, but it will then cut out again a short time later. Other times, it requires switching to the regular HDMI or another input, then switching back to it. To be sure it wasn't just the TV, we tried it on a different TV by a different manufacturer, and it exhibited the same behavior. Then, we tried another soundbar of the exact same model, again on different TVs, and this second iteration did the same thing. So, instead of being able to use the built-in apps on smart TVs, we had to buy Rokus and run them into the regular HDMI input. This resolved all of the audio issues, but it required additional expense to purchase the streaming devices, and it took away that HDMI port that could be used for BluRay players or other devices. This is an incredibly disappointing flaw, one for which we haven't been able to find a solid solution. Not even updating the firmware resolved the issue. Moreover, If you're a gamer, and you use newer consoles with high refresh rates and such, you'll be out of luck, because this soundbar doesn't have the capacity to carry such video signals from the regular HDMI input out to the TV through the ARC/eARC port. You'll have to connect consoles directly to the TV for such features, but then you're back to the issue of sound dropping out. Unfortunately, we are past the return period for these soundbars, but we did at least purchase protection plans for them. I cannot stress enough to importance of doing this. Yes, it adds considerable cost to the items, but it can mean the difference between being able to get support for defective items and being stuck with them as-is. When it does work, though, it sounds really good for a soundbar. I haven't felt too much of a loss from switching to this over the full-size home theater system I used when I still had the room for it. As it stands, I cannot recommend this soundbar, not even at $399.99. Users will not be able to use the built-in apps of smart TVs with it, leaving them with expensive and inelegant workarounds.

Really tho king about returning this item. I’m glad I got a deal on this because of the price match but this is starting to get annoying. The update for the sound bar won’t upload and the connection keeps cutting out. I even bought a new hdmi cable and after a few days the problem came back. No sound again. I really don’t think this sound bar is compatible with my Sony tv. When I use the optical cable for the system it works perfectly but when I use the hdmi cable that’s when I run into issues. When the system is working it’s awesome but when it keeps cutting out it’s getting annoying really fast. Vizio customer service is a joke and so is Best Buy geek squad. No help whatsoever.

I ordered this almost 2 months before I knew I would be able to use it. Finally was able to install and use it. When I first fired it up, I was only a little pleased and it was not the sound I was expecting or hoping for. Later that evening I started messing with TV and sound bar settings and i do not know which setting I changed ... But man, when it kicked in it changed everything! Sound is awesome and better than I ever expected. .... absolutely love this setup!

We've owned this system for 2 years this month and are finally ready to throw in the towel. We're VERY disappointed after dropping $500 and after probably 6 months to a year, it stopped connecting to our TV consistently. We would have to restart the sound system, restart the TV and then they would find each other again but now at 2 years, we have to go through this process every single time we turn on the TV. I've done some research and apparently there is a known connectivity issue with this sound bar, which is good to know since we feel like we're crazy, the hoops we've jumped through to try and get this thing to work. We've changed cables, had the inputs checked, uninstalled and reinstalled, used different remotes and nothing keeps the sound bar connected to our TV, which is also a Vizio. My husband says he will never buy another Vizio sound bar again, which is a shame because this system sounds amazing, the surround sound is awesome and we put the 2 small speakers on stands behind us and it really is immersive but who cares, if I have to reboot every device every time we want to use it? Buy with caution and at the very least, if you run into any issues during the warranty period, immediately return. It's not going to get better.

This speaker is a work of art for the price. It made my 300 sqft living room sound like a theater. On Apple TV, some of the shows had sound effects that made me feel like they were real. Door knocks, police sirens, things falling... Amazing. I wish it had a companion app though.

So we had one of the older Vizio sound bars with surround speaker. We’ve had connection issues with that one at times too. I’ve been eyeing this one up for a couple of years now. We finally found a good balance from soundbar and surround sound. Which took a while. However we still might return it. So the surround sound is a lot better on this system. However the bass is absolutely non existent compared to our older Vizio surround system. Our older one we had the bass on low and sometimes it was still tooo loud. This one we have the bass turned all the way up and it’s just not exisistent. We do have connection issues at times with the new one too. But the one thing that is very irritating is how different every movie or show is in volume. You are constantly having to adjust the volume when you change what you are watching. We don’t know if we will keep it. We bought this on sale for 350. This is definitely not worth the $500 it normally is.

Never thought I'd be able to get a true Atmos experience for $350, but this thing proved otherwise. Incredibly easy to set up, and this thing gives my living room a true cinema experience. Music, movies, sports, this thing can immerse you in the full experience no matter the content. If I have to dig and try to find a con, I suppose it would be that a majority of the top of the bar is a fabric mesh that can be difficult to clean dust off of.

    1. For the last three years, I have had a VIZIO 2.1 Sound Bar SB3621n-F8M with Wireless Subwoofer Bluetooth 100dB SPL DTS Virtual X. A few weeks ago, I decided to upgrade to this M-series 5.1.2 model. 2. I was expecting amazing sound, super bass, and crystal-clear treble. As it turned out, my expectations were in vain. Honestly, I didn't feel much difference compared to my old 2.1 model. The difference was felt only when the Surround Dual function on the M-Series was turned on. If you turn off the two additional/rear speakers on the 5.1.2 model, there is no difference between the 2.1 and 5.1.2 models. In both cases, I used an HDMI cable (eARC). Also, I tried to compare both soundbars by using the Bluetooth connection. So, turned on the DolbyAtmos on my phone and played some music in Ultra HD format. It's unbelievable, but there was no difference between the 5.1.2 and 2.1 models!!! (Note: the small rear speakers on the 5.1.2 model were Off). So I ask myself - if there is no difference, then why pay more? Maybe I am doing something wrong.

Its awesome so far!!! I agree with other reviewers about how it's the best soundbar under 500. I got it on Black Friday for 350! You may have read Rtings review about latency issue, but I haven't really noticed that at all in content, except for sometimes the sync gets messed up, but restarting the soundbar fixes that issue. It's not perfect, but for the price it's really good for Dolby Atmos, just don't expect the best Dolby Atmos.

This system really packs a punch and is great for a relatively immersive stage of sound. My only issue is that over an extended period of loud volume use, it will sometimes shut off on its own.
