Very satisfied with my purchase. I have a decent size living room and it fills the room nicely. The powered sub woofer provides plenty of base. Each speaker produces a distinct, separate sound that matches perfectly with what's happening on screen.
For $399 you really can't go wrong. (I looked at a complete a/v system (NAD receiver, Klipsch speakers, powered sub, etc...) I'm an audiophile but I really couldn't justify spending several hundred dollars more for a more expensive SB.
The ONLY thing I wish was simpler was the remote / inputs to micro-adjust individual speaker volume and delay. But, it plays very well out of the box.
The wires to connect the rear speakers and sub are more than long enough to run the length / width of a room and conceal them.
Spend 1k+ on another sound bar or system if you want, but the Vizio will handle most consumer's expectations at a fraction of the price.

Sound quality is excellent for the price. The compact design includes dedicated rear speakers, and the number of inputs exceeds many competitors with Bluetooth, HDMI in/out and Chromecast Wi-Fi music. It brings Dolby Atmos effects to a compact sound bar with rear speakers and a sub -- all for a very affordable price.

It booms, the rears are a little weak, but it made things a lot easier from my last system which was a fully wired surround system when trying to re-arrange a room thanks to the sub being wireless and the rear speakers attaching to it. I don't really understand the upfiring speakers. Maybe I don't have it configured right. Sounds good though.

For what you’re paying, it’s a decent deal. I’d recommend this for an entry level Dolby atmos home theater setup in a midsized living room with no more than 10ft flat ceiling height. You can get a frequency response between 40Hz - 20kHz. The surround sound experience was a 3/5 experience for me. The cons are that the 2 rear speakers and 2 up-firing Atmos speakers are too weak compared to the center and sub. The rear speakers also connect to the sub for power, so you’re kind of limited to placement. Worked out well for me but I don’t know about everyone else. It’s an almost pleasing surround experience. The Atmos experience was bare minimum. And the usb input is only good for .Wav files so that was disappointing; my guess is the speakers lack a DAC (digital to analog converter). And my biggest complaint is Vizio’s app. Very finicky. Had to factory reset many times just to keep it connected to WiFi (802.11n). If you can live with these cons, this speaker will be just fine for you. I’ve had this for almost a year and now I plan on upgrading.

This Vizio SB36512-F6 5.1.2 sound bar system sounds excellent and is fully adjustable for different sound levels from different speakers and the subwoofer is adjustable. The system instantly connected itself to my 65 inch TV. Being BT you can stream your favorite music from your smart phone and it also has SmartCast/mirrors from your smart device as well. I might add the subwoofer does a real good job and the upward firing speakers are a plus as well. You won't be disappointed in purchasing this sound bar it ranks up there with the big names in good sounding equipment.I did get it for a great price. Thank you Best Buy

Numerous obstacles to overcome (Visio app, Bluetooth connection, actually achieving true Dolby Atmos sound). Once you get through these hurdles the sound bar is amazing. Subwoofer is great. Elevates your whole movie experience. Wait for it to go on sale (I got it for $329 during the 4th of July sale).

I am up on Vizio. I've had this sound bar for about a month now and I am very happy with it. I paired it with my Vizio P65-F1 TV and it adds so much to the viewing experience. I'm coming from a 2.1 system so the added surround sound really blew me away. I'm a huge Sony fan and would have gone with a Sony system instead, but the pricing on this system was too good to pass up and given my love for my Vizio TV, I figured I'd give it a try and I'm glad I did.
The sound is crisp and clear and the sub provides more than enough bass and it sounds great, not muddled or anything.
Initial setup was easy, but I'm a stickler and just had to be sure I was getting Dolby Atmos sound and this took a bit of messing around with the settings and input connection; mostly on the xbox side of things. Nothing too hard and I don't mind tinkering around with this kind of stuff.
The audio settings are very customizable and the Vizio app is a great wat to adjust the settings. Connected to my phone via Bluetooth very easily and music sounds great.
Aesthetically, it looks good, but it'd look better if the side panels were black, not silver. I have the rear satellites mounted on some Atlantic speaker stands and the small size of the satellites and big headphone style jack connections required me to modify the speaker stands to get it to fit properly. Not an issue really, just something to be aware of.
Now, as for the Atmos feature. I have a relatively small living room, a little bigger than 12x15 with an 8 ft ceiling. It could just be me, but I don't really notice sounds from above too often. It's not overwhelmingly obvious. A few times I feel completely engrossed by the sound all around but again, can't distinguish individual sounds coming from above. I've watched Baby Driver and Avengers Infinity War on 4k and they sound great, but I'm not hearing things happening directly above me. Given this, the overall sound is still so good, I've never thought once about returning this product. I'm happy and I'd recommend this to anyone in need of a surround sound system.

The Best Atmos Soundbar for the Money

I had done my research beforehand, and found many A/V websites considered this the best Dolby Atmos soundbar setup for the money. And I can't disagree. First, the negatives: From time to time, I have had issues when the sound from the TV isn't coming through the soundbar. It requires cycling through the inputs to get the bar to recognize the TV. The mobile app for adjusting the level is also pretty laggy, and it took some time for me to connect it to the bar itself. At first, the app could not find the bar.
On the plus side, though, this setup only costs $300, which is an absolute steal for the quality. It's not a terrible long bar, and the subwoofer isn't too intrusive either. Yes, the rear surround speakers do need to be hardwired to the subwoofer, but they're still very solid for satellite speakers. I can say that it has fit the bill for what I wanted it for, which Dolby Atmos and to provide a little more oomph than what I was getting with a standalone soundbar.

READ THIS: This is my first sound bar type system, and it sounds amazing!
I bought it to replace my 12 year old bulky Sony Stereo system with 4 big speaker. It worked perfectly and sounded amazing, but I needed to downsize.
I looked at every brand at Best Buy around $500.
This VIZIO sound bar with the 5 speakers in the bar, the 2 small rear "wireless" surround sound speakers, and the amazing sub woofer look and sound great.
No more running 4 speaker wires to all 4 corners of the living room.
The sound bar with it's 5 speakers (including 2 upward speakers) sound amazing. Just plug in the sub woofer into the wall behind the couch, then plug the 2 small rear speakers into the sub woofer (with provided wires). The sub woofer and rear speakers automatically sync up to the sound bar wirelessly.
They all work perfectly and sound amazing!
BE SURE to download the VIZIO smart cast app.
You can fine tune all of the speakers and sound levels to your own preference. (Bass, Treble, Center, Rear surround, Sub woofer, inputs, power, and more).
You can adjust the front speakers, upward speakers, rear speakers, and sub woofer any way you want.
I will admit that the remote control provided is small and hard to read as others have mentioned. I never use it. I use the cable remote or my phone.
When I turn on the TV, then adjust the volume, the Vizio sound bar automatically turns on.
It was easy to program our cable and tv remote (and smart phone) to control the volume.
I know us guys don't like to follow directions, but just read and follow the instructions, and it will work perfectly. I am no expert.
You can use your smart phone (I have a Samsung Galaxy 7) to do all functions from power, volume/speaker control, switch inputs (HDMI, Optical, USB, Bluetooth, etc.)
I use HDMI for cable Xfinity, and Optical for Chromecast streaming video, and Bluetooth for streaming music or radio.
You have lots of options.
Oh yeah, you can also easily switch to Bluetooth and send your Spotify music, iHeart radio, XM, or any music app from your smart phone right to the sound bar. I listen to talk radio sometimes if I am home during the day.
For movies and music, it all sounds amazing and can rattle the windows if you want!
The surround and upward speakers are perfect for action movies with lots of sounds moving around the room (and flying over your head)!
NOTE: You can adjust the center (voice) speaker up a little to hear the dialog and voices better. You know some shows where the music drowns out the voices, this is an awesome feature!
For $499 at Best Buy, this is an amazing system.
You might catch it on sale, but I was in a hurry as we were doing some home repair and getting a new entertainment center and wanted to down size the sound system.
I thought that I would miss my big and awesome Stereo/CD/Cassette player and 4 huge speakers, but this new VIZIO 5.1.2 channel sound bar system with Sub woofer and rear speakers CAN DO ANYTHING you want it to do.
Buy it. You will love it!

Let me start by saying that I am an IT professional, and I deal with setting up computer systems and AV systems for a living. That being said, this was a pain to setup. I can see why many people say it doesn't work in the comments below. Although, once it was setup, it provides a great sound!
I got this system on sale for under $300, and that seems like an incredible value for this system, especially since it supports ATMOS. The system performs very well. I've never been an audiophile, but the sound was immersive and love the clarity of the system. I have to be honest, I've never had a sound system, so this is a giant step up from just the speakers on the television.
I was looking at this system and the Sonos Beam. I really was interested in the Beam because it has a focus on the clarity of dialog. That has always been a pet peeve of mine - I hate when you have a big action scene which you have to turn down the volume and then the dialog starts and you turn it back up. Audio levelling within the devices has gotten better, but still not perfect. I would love to do a side by side comparison of these two systems, but I have not gotten the opportunity to do that. But I know the Beam doesn't have a subwoofer or surround speakers (although you can add them) but that system begins to get very pricey.
I experienced two major issues with setup. The first was that the system wouldn't procude sound from my TV unless I unplugged it and plugged it back in. I found that the new Samsung Q80T has eARC, and that seemed to be the problem. When I turned off the eARC and just made it ARC, everything works fine. Vizio support didn't really know what eARC was and wasn't able to help with that, but after some research and trial and error, it seems to work consistently. The second issue was the pairing with the app on the phone to do setup there. The bluetooth didn't work, but the wifi did - although it was not straightforward. The message on the phone was "press the volume up button when you hear a tone" but there was no tone - just a "searching" prompt on the sound bar. I tried hitting the volume up anyway and got a "paired" message. I can see how this would cause a lot of people issues. I was close to returning this thinking it would not work, but eventually got through.
Once setup, the system turns on and off with the TV through CEC (so I don't have to deal with turning on another device) and works great. I can adjust the EQ through the app. The app crashes a lot, but it gets the job done. The remote is pretty bad. It's hard to use and you need a full decoder ring to understand what each item does. But between the app and the fact that it works with the TV, there is really no need for it.
I've only had it for a few days, and if any issues crop up, I'll update my review. But I believe once this is setup, it works fine.
Pros:
Great sound
Can hear dialog clearly
Immersive experience - especially with atmos
Cons:
Difficult to setup - not for the weak willed

I’ve owned my setup for 3 months and I absolutely love it. Note: if you want ATMOS you have to plug your streamer into the HDMI. You will know you have ATMOS when the green light comes on at the bottom of the sound bar.
I don’t like the remote it came with and I don’t like that I can’t see the setting I’m choosing on the sound bar or Samsung TV. Otherwise Arc works fine with my Samsung for non ATMOS but I use my Apple TV and my PS4 Pro simultaneously in my HDMI IN on the sound bar. It’s an amazing experience. No issues really
Pair this with Tidal HiFI and you’ll be in love fast

I got this sound bar last year 2020 black friday sale. The sound bar sounds fantastic only problem why i give it 4 out of 5 stars, frequently like 3 or 4x a week it disconnects from TV. Luckily I've never lost vizio remote, the easiest way to get it to reconnect is to cycle through the inputs settings on the remote. Its not as if the input has cganged in its own. Its on the right input setting when it disconnects, but you have to cycle through all the other input settings making sure it registers on that next setting before you move to the next input setting all the way around back to where the input is on. Then it works fine. It's not hard but very annoying and if i lost the remote it would really suck, so for that 4stars

This system packs a punch. The bass and surround sound are impressive. I haven't gotten a chance to view any content in Dolby Atmos, but so far I like what I hear. The silver/black exterior looks nice, so my wife didn't mind the addition of the 2 rear speakers to the living room. The box includes easy-to-use mounts for the bar and satellites, as well as every cable you'll need.
Shout out to the helpful Vizio customer service who helped me when the soundbar wouldn't connect to my LG C9, that was great.
My only complaints are that the HDMI ARC doesn't always sync up with the tv, causing it to switch to the tv spreakers. This requires me to turn off/on both units and cross my fingers that they sync up via ARC. I also haven't been able to get the Vizio Smartcast app to find the sound system. I will have to give this some more effort, as the physical remote isn't intuitive for adjusting the settings without the user guide handy.

Great bang for your buck for entry level Atmos when this thing is on sale. Some even say it's a steal when it's not, but I don't have to worry about that. Big sound from such a small package. Heard someone else's Vizio system with just the bar and sub and was impressed, so I grabbed this one when I saw it was on sale. Grab the app for your tablet or phone to avoid the remote you can't see in the dark. Definitely had some quirks here and there, but they seemed to have ironed themselves out the more I used it.

Surprisingly Great Sound, the subwoofer really packs a punch. Makes an excellent home theater setup as well as party speakers. With that being said, I've had several times where leaving at idle too long or switching inputs on my television, would cut off sound from from the sound bar. And one of those times even after turning it on and off, it wouldn't play sound until I disconnected it from the wall outlet. Also, the cell phone app used to operate the speaker is abysmal. It's a gamble if the alterations you're making any app or going to be reflected in the speaker. If there was somehow a firmware update to resolve these problems then would be a 5-star speaker easily.

I bought this on sale, and am SO glad I sprung for it. I wanted Dolby Atmos at a decent price, a good subwoofer, and something that would work well for music as well as my home theater system. I had a basic Vizio sound bar before this, so I was familiar with the baseline quality of the brand, so to speak — I've also used Vizio TVs for over a decade and felt pretty confident about the possible longevity. I'd had a full Bose system for an astonishingly long time, and after it finally died, I'd been loath to invest that amount of money in a new system, and just settled for a sound bar with integrated sub. It was decent and worked, but I definitely missed that goosebump-inducing theater experience.
This is partly due to the fact that my living room is the perfect environment for this Vizio system, but the sound is incredible. Watching a movie on this is a whole other world compared to the basic sound bar, and the upward firing speakers are truly a gift. The sub is powerful enough to shake the artwork on the walls (and is TERRIFIC if you have a bass-heavy playlist and no neighbors sharing a wall).
Set up was a breeze. I have been the designated "install the surround sound system" person in the family, and the number of times I had to set up the Bose surround system ... I keep things pretty organized, but it would inevitably take upwards of an hour. Less if I hurried, but still — it was an ordeal. Compared to that, setting up this Vizio system was laughably easy. I tucked the satellite speaker cords under the baseboards along the wall to hide them, plugged them into the sub, and... Done. Wow. I no joke kind of stared around the room feeling as though I'd missed something because it was too easy.
I did spend a decent amount of time fussing with the sound settings in the app, but that's always true given differences in room sizes, room contents, arrangement of speakers, etc. It worked well enough out of the box that it would have been fine even if I hadn't been fussy, but it was worth it to take the time to fine-tune it.
All in all, incredibly happy with my purchase. For a little more than the price of a decent subwoofer, I was able to upgrade my entire home theater system, get Dolby Atmos, AND make cleaning days a whole other level of enjoyable (kicking on a rollicking cleaning day playlist is a true joy).

I am really enjoying this sound bar. I would have given it more stars if I didn't receive the 1st 2 in damaged packaging. The 3rd time was the charm but unfortunately the HDMI ARC was acting up. The sound wouldn't immediately come on and it would show a black screen at times. No worries though after a phone call to vizio I was able to update the software and haven't had a problem since. Because of the delays and it didn't come out of the Box ready to go I give it 4 stars. However the sound quality is great the bass is good and if you're looking for a great bargain sound bar that has atmos... this is your sound bar.
