Great sound bar for large living space

    |
    Posted .

I use this sound bar in a large living room in conjunction with a Vizio M-Series TV and a Sony 3D Smart Blu-Ray. I love this set up. For less than $1000 we have movie theater quality picture and sound at home. I'd almost rather watch a movie here than in the theater. This bar connects to BT devices, so we frequently play music through our phones on it. It is sleek, attractive, and easy to set up. The rear speakers connect directly to the subwoofer which must be plugged in but there are NO WIRES that go from the back of the room to the front which I LOVE. One improvement I'd like to see in this product is the ability to balance front and back sound. Because some of our seating is very near the rear speakers, at times the rear sound overpowers the front and I'd like more control over that. If this feature is available on this bar, I just haven't discovered it yet (and haven't tried a whole lot). I'd also like the BT connectivity (pairing) to be simpler. I was able to figure it out in less than 2 minutes without using a manual, but it required more button pushing on the remote than I think it should have. We have iPhone 5 devices that we pair with it. Not a deal breaker by any means, but it could be simpler. The remote is tiny and very simple. It powers on and connects to our TV and BluRay automatically so there is no need to do anything. Just turn on the TV and it comes on. There is a 2-3 second delay sometimes, and I do have to occasionally hit "volume up" to make it "come alive" but I love it still. For the price, this is a great sound system, and I'm really glad I bought it.

    Awesome sounding

Simple set up, I own a Vizio TV so once I hooked everything up I figured out my TV remote automatically paired with the sound bar and works perfect. I like the fact that the rear speakers hook up to the sub which gives some flexibility for rear placement. I personally used my own wires that are ran through the attic to hook up rear speakers instead of the ones that came with them. Overall it sounds really good, way better than TV speakers. So far mine sits In front of the TV, im thinking about wall hanging TV and mounting speaker below but not sure yet. I did have to buy some speaker wire to RCA adapters to use my own speaker wire, I'll add a pic of those so you know what I'm talking about. Only place I could find them was Amazon. My local best buy didn't have a clue what I was talking about, one guy even said there's no such thing. I just laughed and walked away. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because when sound bar sits idle for awhile, like over night, it somewhat goes into sleep mode and you have to adjust volume up to get it to wake up. Depending on how loud you had it before it wakes up to that level, so for those that have family asleep when you decide to watch TV in the early morning be aware of that. There may be a setting to adjust this, I haven't dove to deep into it yet. So anyway if you want great sound out of a simple product go buy one. You shouldn't be disappointed.

I've had the Vizio 5.1 sound bar for a 1.5 months now and I am very pleased with the system. I originally looked at a Sonos system but their decision not to support DTS was a deal breaker. Keep all the other bells and whistles Sonos, the Vizio system provides superior sound at a fraction of the cost. The music from my iPods and iPads really sounds great over Bluetooth and I don't need a special app. Like most soundbars, you will most likely need a SPDIF/TOSLINK digital optical switch to get the most out of this Vizio Soundbar and support true 5.1 surround. I went with a J-Tech Digital 3 input x 1 output switch with remote control. This lets me connect the digital optical outputs on the 3D blueray player, 3D TV and my XBMC based HTPC (mac mini) to the one digital optical input on the Vizio soundbar. I love the remote control for the Vizio soundbar. Very intuitive placing a screen on the remote vs one on the soundbar. The use of a status screen also minimizes button clutter on the remote. The status lights on the soundbar are easy to see and understand if the remote changed the desired setting. My wife is now comfortable using it to switch between bluetooth and digital optical input as well as several other menu options like adjusting the subwoofer level and turning on/off the True Volume or Night features. I do wish they had a backlight or glow in the dark on the remote so you can see the screen during late night viewing. Fortunately once you have it set for movie viewing you don't really need to make menu adjustments and you can easily navigate the volume, mute and other control buttons by touch. In fact, because you can program the soundbar to recognize your existing TV remote, you don't even need to use the Vizio remote to adjust the volume while watching TV. Tapping the volume on your remote will also wake up the soundbar if you are using the Eco power mode. The system is very easy to setup up right out of the box. It took FAR longer to remove the amp, surround speakers, and all that wire from the old system. I have the subwoofer right behind the couch. The satellite speakers are sitting on Atlantic Satellite 77305018 stands and the bases tuck nicely under the back of the couch. The wires run down the inside of the stand and under the couch to the subwoofer, completely out of sight. The wireless connection between the soundbar and the subwoofer works flawlessly but I did purchase the Geek Squad 4 year protection plan just in case.

The best entry level sound bar system

    Posted .

This sound bar exceeded my expectations. It has extremely good sound and is easy to setup and adjust. My TV has an optical audio out that carries 5.1, so it was as simple as connecting the cable and plugging it in. The menu on the remote is simple and easy to use, and provides a great deal of control over the output. The surround sound speakers are a bit unimpressive, but they only provide surround so large drivers are not as critical. About my room: I have a living room with a TV mounted above a fireplace. The ceiling is approximately 20 ft high, with 18ftx18ft dimensions. It has a tiled floor and opens to the rest of the home on two walls. Basically, a very large, acoustically poor room. I originally purchased a sound bar from Sony and besides mediocore sound, it was extremely difficult to set up. This VIsio fills the room with great sound and has sufficient bass. I especially like that the surround sound speakers and subwoofer can be placed in the back of the room without running wires from the soundbar itself. It made installation clean and easy. This replaced some very expensive $2,500 tower speakers with multiple powered subwoofers, and needless to say, the Visio is outmatched. However, the Visio is a much cleaner look and has surround sound - making sound difference an easy trade off. If you are in the market for a sound bar (and especially if you want surround sound), you will want to give this a try.

    Uhh, WOW

    Posted .

My wife and I purchased a new Samsung 65 in TV for Christmas to go in our living room. Being a bit of an audiophile and like the sound of a movie as much as the movie itself, I wanted a nice sounding surround sound system. Being a cheapskate at the same time, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on one either. My wife, being the diligent researcher she is, found several online from Best Buy and several "other" retailers. The VIZIO - 5.1-Channel Soundbar System popped up several times as a good choice. The Sony HT-CT260 also was highly recommended, but I wanted the full surround sound experience not a nice sounding bar. We read several reviews on both. The term "WOW", "AWESOME" and "BLOWN AWAY" were used by several people talking about the VIZIO but not so much with the Sony. The Sony cost less, but I wanted the VIZIO. We pulled the trigger and purchased the VIZIO and haven't looked back. Setup was easy. The main sound bar goes in front of the TV and is hooked up using either the fiber optic or coaxial cable (both supplied) to the TV or cable box. It can also be mounted to the wall for a clean looking install. The rear speakers are wired to the subwoofer and it is wireless. This makes setup MUCH easier and cleaner without a bunch of wires run all over the place. We had it up and running in no time. Several times in watching a movie or TV show I would get up from my seat to turn off TV's in other rooms to stop the background noise only to realize the sound was the background noise of the movie, NOT sounds in my house. You not only can see explosions and action, you can FEEL them with the subwoofer. The only complaints I have, and they are very minor, is their is no HDMI hookups (I didn't need them so no biggie) and the remote is a little hard to read in the dark. Otherwise, the words "WOW", "AWESOME" and "BLOWN AWAY" describe this sound bar to a T.

I believe you get so must more at this price point. I have had this soundbar for nearly 4 years and really never had a major issue.

Best solution for entry level, true surround sound

    |
    Posted .

Everyone has different priorities, with this in mind, I will state my criteria that I used to qualify the best product to meet my objectives. Criteria: 1) Price/value - Set by median range of existing sound bars on market. 2) Ease of setup - Should not require more than an hour and does not require specialize tools. 3) Quality build/sound - Material and performance should be of reasonable quality to the average user. 4) Clean installation - Wireless speakers. Summary: I am very pleased with this purchase, I have not previously owned any Vizio products, I was skeptical about quality. The price point was low enough that the risk was acceptable. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this unit. Based on my aforementioned requirements, this product was the best choice at the time of my purchase. Setup was seamless, clean, and only took 30min to complete. Sound quality is above acceptable, crisp and no distortion when turning the volume up. The amount of big sounds being pushed out of this system is respectable, I have yet to find the need to even set it at half it's capabilities. The only drawback is the lack of smaller increment in volume control; the levels have a pretty large gap in adjustments. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone wanting big sound without the big price tag.

Unbeatable sound system at this price range

In searching for a sound system for my apartment, I had a few criteria I wanted to meet. I wanted a something affordable, portable for moving, had a center channel, and surround speakers. This has all of that. One of the main reasons I bought this was to increase the sound quality when watching movies over my TV's speakers without annoying neighbors. The center channel's level is adjustable so I can make voices heard without being blasted away by sound effects and music. In addition, I can power down the subwoofer while still using the front three channels so the bass doesn't disturb anybody at night. I have noticed that the subwoofer can be a bit overpowering at times, even when at the lowest level. This can be noticeable when playing music and games. Movies tend to be okay. I also noticed some slight interference can occur with the wireless connection to the sub and rear speakers. Some internet searching seems to indicate that this may be caused by 5 GHz wireless networks. It is not noticeable when watching movies, but it does happen.

    Fantastic Sound for the price

    Posted .

I reviewed almost every single sound bar available before purchasing the Vizio 5.1 s4251w-b4. I have owned 2-3 5.1 surround sound setups in the past, and this vizio sounds just as good if not better than some of my setups that I have previously used. I am no audiophile but I do appreciate a good sounding system. I use my sound bar primarily with the PS4 and the bass is absolutely great when playing games like Battlefield 4 and Killzone. I was a little concerned about the quality of the rear speakers that make this sound bar 5.1, but they sound fantastic. As i stated before I have used many 5.1 surround sound setups before, and the rear speakers for this sound bar sound great, and I notice them more than I did with my previous setups. I mounted this sound bar underneath my TV using the Rocketfish Sound Bar Mount, this was easily the hardest part of the installation, as the sound bar is heavier than it seemed at first. I ended up using half of the mounting system to mount it under my tv and it appears flush underneath my tv. My only disappointments with this sound bar system is the lack of a display on the sound bar itself. It does have lights that correspond to the button presses of the remote and it will say digital on the sound bar when it is receiving a digital signal, but I would have liked to have a fully functional display on the soundbar. The other is more of a problem with Vizio than the actual sound bar. They were supposed to release a 54" model of this sound bar this last year, but it has not yet been released. My tv is a 60" Sony KDL-60R550A and it is not as wide as the tv. It leaves about 4 inches on both sides of my tv. I wish there was a 54" model available to closer match the width of my tv. This sound bar is so good, that my father-in-law came over the day after I installed it and went and purchased the same model the next day. Overall I am thrilled with this product, and it is an outstanding sound bar for the price that you pay. One other thing to mention, is that Vizio included every single cable and mount that you will need to get this sound bar connected. Never have I purchased a piece of home theater equipment that came with every single thing you need. Vizio gets an A+ for this.

Good soundbar if you want wireless

    |
    Posted .

While not truly "wireless", this sound bar keeps you from stringing cables across the center of the floor. You still have to connect cable behind the couch (or wherever you're going to place the sub and rear speakers) so don't think this is eliminates wires completely. However, I don't care about wires behind the couch - I just don't want them strung across the room from the TV to the back of the couch. This takes care of that. As far as sound quality, it's pretty good. My old system was an Onkyo 7.1 system that sounded phenomenal. This Vizio system doesn't reach that level, but it's respectable and gives good overall sound. You'll have to play with the (3-channel) equalizer and tune the surround and sub levels to where you want them more than usual, though. It seems to me that the sub/bass levels frequently get out of balance with the rest of the system, so I'm constantly turning them up or down to compensate, even during the same movie or program. One minor annoyance - Vizio should know well that the soundbar will be mounted underneath the TV. So...why engineer the plugs on the bar on the bottom? They should be on top so I don't have to wrap the cables behind the bar to get to the TV.

The only 5.1 Soundbar so far

    |
    Posted .

I purchased this sound bar not sure if I would like it with my movies. The only sound bars i found in best buy were either 2.1 or 7.1 from what I found. I looked at the reviews of it and I went for it and for $247 (sale), I figured it would be a good deal. The rear speakers are wired but are connected to the wirerless subwoofer. I will admit the rear speakers is what sold me on this sound bar. Even movies that are encoded for 7.1 sound great too. Pros Bass and the Surround of the speakers work very well and sound good Be careful, the bass will hit hard if set too high and neighbors will complain LOL (mine did) Easy to setup Able to pick up small sounds in movies than before Surround speakers work very well to produce the Left to Right or vice versa sound effects in movies Used the supplied Optic cable in box (generic) and sounds great You can use a better optic cable if desire for the audiophile type of person Even though there is not a LED screen on sound bar, bluetooth is easy to connect to every device. Cons Remote LED is not back lit - remedied this by using a flashlight app on my phone or a good source of bright light Have to adjust to the LED notifications on sound bar but after while, you really don't pay attention to them except for the overall volume of the unit Overall, 3D movies are even better with the sound bar. I still watch 2D movies and I feel like I am in a theatre. Avatar is encoded for 5.1 and its amazing to watch, very engrossing. It made all movies are now complete. Note = All the volumes for the different settings using the remote is indicated by the LEDs on the sound bar Note = To switch inputs, hit the middle button (play button)

I considered only a sound bar, however, I am so happy that I went with this system that includes satellite speakers and subwoofer. Impressive performance at a reasonable price. Better than all in one (out of the box) systems

    |
    Posted .

I have had a few out of the box systems, you know, dvd/blu ray with speakers sets. After moving to a new place I was not thinking of how my system would work in this new space (open floor plan) I had already looked at this system before (old version) when I first moved here but I had decided to save up and have speakers installed. When I went to best buy to get my new Vizio TV I saw they had this new one on sale $249.99 so with both on sale I was able to get both for under 2K. Anyway enough background right. This systems beats all of my previous systems by a lot and I have had samsung, sony and I also had a Philips back in the day (really good satellite speakers). The surround is subtle the way it should be IMO but (can be adjusted) the sound bar looks nice and packs a punch I don't really go over 4 but it can go as high as 12 (it's loud) no wires to run from front to back of the room only the two that go from sub to rear satelites. I bought some wire solution stuff and a couple of mounts from Home Depot ($40-50) to go up one wall and along the cealing to the other side of the room in the back of the room. Looks and sounds great tons of features and I can use my Vizio TV remote with this unit also. All in all a great buy, about $300 total investment into just the sound system and it sounds great for a hell of a lot less than putting in speakers in the wall and cealing. Now don't get me wrong this is still at the end of the day just a sound bar system and that is why it got 5 stars. This is in no way in the same league as some 1-2K or even more systems. But this holds it's own and then some

Awesome overall with quality, features and price!

    Posted .

Retail price is $299 but purchased mine for $199. I'm definitely impressed with the sound quality over another 5.1 system i had purchased awhile back (different brand). Note: (you do have to set-up the "TruVol", surround sound and bass/trebble to your taste to get the right amount of sound power and crisp distributed around the room because out of the box settings sounded just like the TV speakers). It was easy to do on the little lcd remote provided so no worries if you think you would have trouble setting it up. There are minimal amount of cables from system to tv and from rear speakers to the sub. The bluetooth works flawlessly with my stock Android and Cyanogenmod powered devices. Not once have I lost connectivity through the bluetooth streaming so I'm impressed with that as well. I have used my speakers with blu-rays movies, netflix 5.1 streaming and multiple music streaming services but not until I played video games did I realize how accurate the sounds were. It was almost like I was wearing a surround sound headset, meaning I could hear most or all of the little details in the video games I could not hear from regular 2.1 or my previous 5.1 audio system because of the lack of settings you can tweak for the surround sound system. I think i can go on and on but the bottom line is, I'm happy with the purchase, make sure to get the $35 4 year protection plan and go ahead and turn your house into a movie theater!

    Excellent Sound Bar System

    Posted .

I have been looking around for a good sound bar. I researched high and low and finally landed upon the Vizio 3821-W system which was not surround sound but had great reviews. I took it home and set it up and found it to be a nice system but something was missing. The sound bar and sub woofer were very good but not great. I took it back. I read a little more and it dawned me that what I needed was a better sound bar with more speakers, etc and when I read about the Vizio 4251-W with a better sound bar (more and better speakers), a better wireless sub woofer and two surround sound speakers, it became obvious what I was missing - a complete home theater system for a reasonable. This sound bar allows me to "experience" my TV, movies and music. It may not be as good as an expensive set of speakers, etc but for me, with a nice size living room, it works perfectly and allows me to enjoy TV, movies and music and not break the bank. It was very simple to set up - about 10 minutes. Every cable was included that I needed. I then set my settings for volume on the sound bar, sub woofer and surround speakers. Another 10 minutes. I was done and ready to test it. I watched a new Star Trek movie and the "experience" was incredible. It felt like I was kinda in a theater. For the money ($199), I could not find a better sound bar system anywhere and had looked at higher priced systems. This was great for the price, easy to set up and the "experience" of watching or listening to my entertainment was worth every penny. I highly recommend!

The subwoofer is great enough to rumble the bed. Ours is setup in a very long bedroom (TV is opposite so we have the sub and surround by the bed and the soundbar under the TV a good 20+ feet away. Feel like we are at a theater. Can adjust the volume of the soundbar or the sub if it's too loud and the adjustments are a great way to fine tune what we need. Two minor downsides. The remote does not have any kind of night light that I know of, so if you're in the dark, you'd need to pause what you're watching to ensure you're on the right function to turn it down, up, and even more minor than that, if you hold the up or down button it goes quick, so you'll want to click it one at a time or else you'll go from quiet to HOLY COW very quickly. I do love the quality of the sound it puts out though. Don't notice any clipping at high levels.

Vizio Really out did themselves on this sound bar. For the price you might not think it would be a decent but WOW would you be wrong. The Wireless sub-woofer will rattle the windows if our not careful. The semi wireless rear speakers are a great addition to the vizios original 2.1 sound bar. They plug into the sub-woofer so you dont have to worry about running them all the way to the main unit. All I have to say is this is definitely the Set up You wanna buy if your on a budget cause it will blow almost all of the more expensive ones away.
