    What I Was Expecting

I was after Picture Quality for both Movie and TV viewing, first and foremost, at a mid price range. Trings.com gave it that rating comparing it against Sony 900F or E. Yes, the picture quality of the P55-F1 is much better than that of the TCL605. Streaming picture quality is fantastic on the P55-F1, in comparison, too. My 55" TCL was given to a needy family. Loooong story short.

The TV as a screen is superb. The smart part of the tv is a joke. My remote does not work. So i cant even use the tv. You can skip the intro screens with out a remote. I have had to use 2 phones to get the setup going. Why do they not make just tvs? Who really wants a built in chromecast or roku? Just knock $30 off the tv and let us decide which to use. And who had the bright idea to not have physical navigation buttons on the tv? 2 hours after turning o and all i can do is watch the demo loop. Great screen questionable decisioms on the smart aspects.

To mostly reiterate what others have stated, it's an okay TV with a decent panel. I don't know how much variance there is between panels or production phases or anything like that, but in general mine looks good. Based on some of the reviews, I was concerned about the viewing angles, but in my case, even at sharp angles I don't see it wash out by any meaningful amount. Other than that, it has inputs and for the most part works like a TV. On the 'cons' side, I present the following... * The integrated ATSC tuner is clearly and obviously inferior to the tuner Samsung included in what was a midrange model in 2009. A lot of people don't use OTA, I get that, but I do, and I find it annoying that this TV, at times, can’t hold on to signals adequately. My USB tuner hooked up to the same antenna shows a quality signal with an “excellent” SNR. (And no, Vizio, I'm not calling support again. I understand how antennae work, and power-failing and re-scanning didn't help. For the record I have an outdoor antenna that works nicely on everything I have, except this TV. To the TV’s credit, most of the time, most of the channels work.) * I have an Xbox One S set to 4K output, plugged into HDMI-1 with a quality 4K capable cable. If I shut down the Xbox One, it will crash and reboot the TV. Perhaps not always, but often enough. Maybe it just serves me right for doing things. How about this: Instead of crashing, just bring up the input screen? * Most of the “smart” TV apps are for services I don’t use, but for fun I tried the YouTube app. In performance terms that was a mixed bag too. This seems to work a lot better on the Xbox One. I suppose that makes sense. * I would define the “WatchFree” Pluto TV system as a "glitchy mess". It didn't matter if I used wireless (my router is about 12 feet away) or plugged in via gigabit Ethernet. (I have 200Mbps internet service, for whatever that's worth.) The silly channel I was watching would lock up periodically, then if I changed channels and went back, it would work for a while. Watching "Supermarket Sweep", although fascinating in its own way, isn't worth the frustration. * I installed the SmartCast app on my phone, saw how it integrated into the notification shade, couldn't figure out how to turn that off, and then uninstalled it. Maybe you can get rid of that, I don't know. I found it obtrusive. * If you look at the back of the TV, below the downward-facing inputs, there is sort of a well, then it goes back to being flush with the back of the TV. If the TV is wall-mounted and you have thicker cables, they can be hard to bend in there just right. * And finally, let us say I'm switching inputs by pressing the "Input" button. It brings up a horizontally-scrolling menu. (A list that I've even pared down by eliminating HDMI inputs I don't use.) Ok, that's fine. I start scrolling. If I don't keep moving, after a few seconds the TV will just change to the selected input before I hit "Ok". That makes the input switching menu disappear, activating an input I didn't want, requiring me to hit "Input" again and keep scrolling. Maybe disabling this "feature" or extending the time before it changes on its own is optional somewhere. If it is, I couldn't find it. I picked it up on sale but wasn't able to deploy it for full evaluation before the return window closed, so I suppose I'll live with it. Many of my issues (related to the TV) could be fixed with software, but I’m not holding my breath. At the price point (on sale) it’s “Fine”, but if I had it to do again, I’d try something else.

I have always had Vizio TVs and they have been great. This one was a lemon as soon as the warranty expired. Color has degraded, brightness is terrible, and won’t connect to internet. It’s ok as a kid/gaming TV but they are even starting to complain

4 years later: STAY AWAY FROM VIZIO

    Posted .

This TV looked great on paper and from various reviews. It's the P series after all. It supports Dolby Atmos and Vision, has premium build quality and high end specs, a true 240hz panel, what's there not to love? Well my biggest mistake was buying before seeing it in person. Where do I even begin. The local dimming has physically failed twice now. First time they replaced the whole TV under warranty and the replacement started blinking again a month later. Warranty only applied to the original TV, so I'm SOL on this second one. Only solution is disable local dimming, which ruins HDR. The user interface is slow and clunky and the remote is not responsive. I've always used an Apple TV, so interface wasn't a big problem for me, but as a stand alone smart tv, this is completely unacceptable. It's comparable to an early 2000s in-car navigation system. If there weren't so many ads, clutter, icons, etc constantly being refreshed/loaded on the home screen, I imagine it would be a much smoother experience. After 4 years with this TV, I can confidently say I will never purchase a vizio product again, let alone major electronics from BB. One of the 2 membership stores include a 5 year warranty with most TVs... it would have been a lifesaver to simply buy from them originally

The color, sharpness, and contrast is wonderful. The reason I gave it four is the remote. The remote is much to small. Even in good light is hard to read the buttons. Impossible to read them at night, not lite.

I bought the TV but noticed some mild banding and dirty screen effect when playing God of War. It was pretty much only visible when panning the camera across the sky but it was still there. I returned it and got another one but the new one is pretty much the same. If I try not to look at it I usually don't see it but it's still kinda disappointing. Everything else is great though.

Absolute headache! Not the tv for you

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I had high hopes for this! This tv has the best bang for you buck when it comes to color and zones... but renders itself useless with its sub-par processing and software! I have had to return two of these! The first one decided it would just crash when ever it wanted right in the middle of streaming a show or watching a movie.. now this second one after working fine decided it doesn’t want to work for casting. “SmartCast Tv not available” is all the info it gives and directs you to the website.. which only tells you to power cycle and reset your router.. nothing worked.. soft power cycle nothing, completely unplugged and power cycle nothing... reset router nothing (btw internet works fine to type this review!!!).. if you don’t know this TVs remote has no letter buttons so inputting your log in details for apps like Netflix or YouTube is an unbelievably ancient and slow process! It is literally hair pulling if you type in a wrong password and entering all the apps log in details will take at the very least 20-30 mins. Now with that said the LAST thing you want to be told to do is to do a factory reset! And then do it and it still be broke except now you have to enter ALL your info AGAIN! Save yourself an absolute nightmare, spend the extra $100, and buy the Sony!

I was surprised at how poorly this TV performed despite having such high ratings from some of the "objective" TV review websites. A few things worth pointing out: - The TV had trouble syncing with our Samsung sound bar plugged into the digital optical output. Sometimes the TV would not power on the sound bar; other times the sound would be several seconds out of sync with the TV. We had no performance issues with the Samsung sound bar on our previous TV and other sets we've used it on, so I chalk this up to a connectivity issue with the Vizio. - The picture had a good deal of vignetting and was very choppy on content below 1080p. It did not do a good job of upscaling at all. - The SmartCast software was painfully slow. For a "premium" smart TV the software felt very dated and included a lot of bloatware. Notably absent was DIRECTV Now, which requires the use of the built-in Chromecast -- very inconvenient if DIRECTV Now is your main TV source. - Google Home integration was essentially useless. The only useful feature we found on it was powering off the TV (it will not, however, power the TV on). - When compared to comparable TVs from other manufacturers, the lack of energy efficiency quickly became a red flag. This TV uses even more power than the plasma TV we were replacing, which is pretty remarkable given the fact that plasmas were known to be energy hogs. We returned this TV due to the sound sync issues and purchased a Samsung instead (at a lower price). So far have been very happy.

Hello theoriginalwm, to address a few of you questions there are answers below. A few things that might help you get the kind of picture quality you are looking for. First, make sure the Display is getting a hi-definition or 4K signal. This means making sure that you're source device (like a cable/satellite box) is capable of HD or 4K, and that it's connected to your Display with an HDMI cable that can deliver the HD or 4K picture. You can also change between pre-set picture modes on the display by pressing the PIC button on your remote. This will toggle between a few picture setting that look good in different situations. If your display is in a bright room try Vivid or Calibrated. If it’s in a dimmer room try Calibrated Dark.

The SmartCast input does have limited applications installed and you cannot add extra apps to the input. We are continuously evaluating new applications for possible addition to this screen. In the meantime you can cast any of the thousands of Chromecast enabled applications to the TV from any mobile device on your network.

We have recently added more Google Home intergration for powering on and off the television. VIZIO

    Picture good. SmartCast horrible

The first 4 months everything worked well. Was annoying you couldn’t add apps like Sling, etc. The built in apps work best. But...Good picture and was able to cast shows from my iPad and iPhone. Now its all a mess. For no reason, the SmartCast just doesn’t work most of the time. I’ll get error message saying it’s ‘starting up’ for hours. Or it just wont cast and they’ll be static on screen. Every once in awhile now it works. After searching online it seems this is a problem. One fix on Vizio site is to unplug TV, hold power button for 15 seconds and then plug TV back in and restart. This worked for awhile but was super annoying to have to go through this just to watch TV!!! Not that ‘trick’ doesn’t even work. I’d really like to return this and get a Sony but I’ve had TV for over 6 months. Buyer Beware. or get extended warranty. It’s worthless to me now as I only use apps for watching TV. (Well Netflix still works because that’s a built in app on TV)

The TV was beautiful at 1st. It paired well with my gaming systems. I purchased the 2 year warranty as I always do on electronics. Literally 2 months after it expired the tv started flashing black spots near the bottom of the panel any time the Active Array was on. After a bit of investigation it appears this is a very common issue with this particular TV And unfortunately vizio refuses to do anything about it. Sure I can turn the feature off but Is I use a lot of HDR content and without the active array the picture is much more dull. Plus it defeats the purpose of splurging on a full array lit set. Bummer.

    Didnt fit the hype

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this TV after doing an incredible amount of research on just about every technical aspect of tv's in my price range. When I bought the TV, it was about $1200 at the time (I see it's much cheaper now), and I wouldn't feel as bad if I only paid the $6-700 it currently costs. Now my issues... motion is incredibly blurry, regular movement is fine, but when the entire screen pans left or right, you can't see a single thing on the screen, just one fuzzy blur. Secondly, and my biggest gripe, are the "shadows" the LED's cast on the screen. It's most noticeable on bright screens when moving (watching home improvement/real estate shows are the WORST when they pan across a room). The shadows are vertical dark bars every few inches that are there all the time. Completely ruins the picture, and is now so distracting its the only thing I can notice on the TV. I sent my originally purchased TV back for this exact reason thinking I just got a bad panel or something; the second TV was worse. I was tired of fighting Vizio on it doing half an hour of "unplug the tv and factory reset the settings nonsense" with customer service, so I just gave up and have lived with it. It honestly has burned me so badly that I refuse to buy another Vizio TV regardless of the model/size now for fear of having the same issue since all of the reviews I still see about this TV show overall great things to say so I can't trust the other models either. It's a shame because I've been buying Vizio's exclusively since about 2008. If you can live with shadows all over your picture, it might be worth the now lower price. Lastly, I have had a ton of issues with the wifi based settings on the TV that you have to use to make any adjustments, change the input, etc. I open the smartcast app, and it only connects to the TV I'd say about half the time, despite being on the same wifi network and having full signal anywhere else. Even when connecting my device to tv's bluetooth, it still sometimes wont work. On second thought, just avoid this tv.

    Beautiful set.....when it works

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

As stated in the above title, this set is beautiful when it functions. I purchased this set as an upgrade to an older Vizio, but unfortunately the set stopped functioning properly not even 24 hours after buying it brand new OOB. Graphical artifacts began to show (what appears to be random lines of pixels flickering white randomly on the display) followed by complete graphical failure (attached picture) forcing the set to reboot itself. After reboot, the TV functions again properly for a few minutes until the pattern repeats itself. None of the suggested fixes (power cycling, etc) solved the issue. After scouring the internet, this is apparently a widespread issue with the P-Series sets. As of this review, I have contacted Vizio's support, who was very quick and helpful, and already have a replacement set on the way. Would I still recommend this set? Despite the graphical issue, yes. Best looking set for the price anywhere, and a significant upgrade especially for you gamers (X1X) and sports people (watching hockey on this set is gorgeous). However, make sure to KEEP YOUR RECEIPT for warranty replacement purposes should you need it. However, this review will remain 1 star until I can get a properly functioning set.

I would LOVE to give 5 stars but the screen has “dirty” or cloudy section to the left of the center of the screen. I believe this is a manufacturing defect that can’t be corrected through a software update, as I have the latest software version. It’s out of warranty so I’ll have to live with until I can afford a Sony. This is the second Vizio P-Series with defects in the screen or picture processing. I can’t recommend Vizio anymore to my customers.

i was so excited to buy this tv, in the first couple months, everything was fine, and than i think after a firmware update, the tv now crashes when trying to change inputs on its own, when i turn on my ps4 or apple tv. It will attempt to change inputs, but then freezes for over 3 minutes and restarts itself. it sucks because other than this issue, the TV is great, picture is fantastic. Just the UI is garabge It's ridiculous that vizio refuses to acknowledge this as a known issue considering there are so many ppl experiencing this expressed online on reddit. There are enough of us disgruntled customers talking to each other, we have the basis for a lawsuit against vizio for releasing a malfunctioning product and choosing to ignore it. ive called tech support and they're gonna send a repair guy to change the motherboard or whatever, but other customers had the same service done and still didnt fix the issue. i guess the lesson is...you get what you pay for

The picture on this TV is pretty decent, despite having a few minor issues with textures in dark scenes. Unfortunately, this model has numerous reported complaints (check reddit, I wish that I had before I bought and mounted this TV) where the video will freeze while the audio keeps playing. I've had this happen many times now, both while using a streaming stick and a PS4, I've tried switching HDMI inputs and cables, all to no avail. I would definitely not recommend that anyone purchase this TV until/unless Vizio issues a firmware update which addresses this issue.

The whole reason I bought this was to get rid of another device (like Apple or Roku). You can't add apps to this TV. You are stuck with the limited pre-installed apps, unless of course you want to add another device or use your phone to "cast" an app to the TV. My old TV which I put out to the curb was already gone, or I would be returning this one. The picture quality is literally the same as the old TV I put out to the curb.
