    Good while it lasted

I purchased my VIZIO - 55" Class M-Series Quantum Series LED 4K UHD SmartCast TV in April of 2020. I was very impressed with the picture brightness, sharpness, and quality. The factory speakers leave much to be desired. In order to hear the speakers good, you have to turn the volume up above leveI 25 for decent sound. We purchased a sound bar, which made a huge difference. The remote feels great in your hand, but sometimes it does not feel as responsive as it should and will be delayed when trying to use it. There also seems to be a glitch with this tv that cause it to turn on by itself, which happens mostly in the middle of the night. In 2023, just pass the warranty expiration date. The picture went out on the screen and would only show lines of colors. This went on for all most a year. I tried all types of trouble shooting on Vizio website and nothing worked until almost a year later when I decided to revisit Vizio website and a new troubleshooting technique was available and I gave it a try and my tv started back working like it had never stopped. Now it's August of 2024, and we are starting to experience the same issue as before with the multi colored lines all over the screen, and the previous troubleshooting technique doesn't work anymore. It was great while it lasted. Side note the Vizio D class that I purchased over 8 plus years ago is still going strong today except for an occasional lag with 3 or so streaming services it came with at the time.

I’m really happy with the money I spent on this TV. It has support for all the major HDR formats (including HDR10+ as of November 2019), a wide color gamut, full-array local dimming, and decent brightness. This replaced my 2016 Vizio P-series and met or exceeded it in almost all categories for less than half the price. I’ve been a fan of Vizio for a long time, especially since they came out with their SmartCast TVs in 2016. I bought this TV to replace my 2016 P-series that recently bit the dust. It was really disappointing to see that TV die so quickly and I did briefly consider other options from Hisense and TCL, but ultimately I went with the M-series and chalked that up to a one-time occurence. Only time will tell how well it holds up, but I have not seen any issues so far. The unboxing was pretty straightforward and the packaging is simple. The TV comes inside a plastic bag with handles that makes it easy to lift out of the styrofoam and they cover the front of the screen with cardboard and styrofoam so you can lay it down. Once I had the TV setup it looked good - the black bezels are nice and thin around the top and the sides and just a bit thicker across the bottom. There are 4 HDMI ports on the back, all HDMI 2.0b, as well as a basic composite input and digital and analog audio outputs. The stands are metal and seemed sturdy, but I ended up putting my TV on the wall. Setting up the TV and connecting it to WiFi was similarly straightforward. The image quality is excellent. The peak brightness is listed at 600 nits, which is not as bright as some other TVs, but HDR content still shines and colors really pop without looking oversaturated. There are 90 local dimming zones, which is less than the 128 my 2016 P-series had, but I didn’t notice the difference. The M-Series Quantum supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG, and now HDR10+, so you’re pretty much covered on every HDR scenario. Most of what we watch on this TV is SDR though and SDR also looks great and it does a pretty good job of upscaling lower resolution content, which is important for cable and satellite boxes since the majority of TV is still 1080i or 720p. Out of the box the default picture setting is ‘Vivid’, which makes the picture look more dramatic, but is not at all accurate; I would recommend setting it to either ‘Calibrated’ or ‘Calibrated Dark’. I don’t think the built-in smart interface is all that great compared to what Samsung, Sony, LG, and others offer, but it’s functional. Most of the basic apps are there - Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon chief among them. There’s about 25 more apps though that I will never use and apps cannot be removed or added. I mainly just wish it was a bit faster and cut down on the advertising a bit. Anything that isn’t on the TV can be put up via Chromecast or Apple AirPlay 2. As of November Disney+ can only be put up using AirPlay, so that is something to keep in mind if you have it; there is no app and bizarrely even Chromecasting is not supported for Disney+ on Vizio TVs. You can also control it via Alexa or Google Assistant. Even if the onscreen interface is lacking Vizio gives you so many other ways to put content up that it doesn’t bother me that much. The built-in speakers are not great, but that is true with most TVs. I would recommend spending money on at least a basic soundbar and I think Vizio is a good choice for that as well (I’m using one of their 5.1 soundbars). Overall I think the M-series is the best value that Vizio offers. I think it compares favorably to options from Samsung and Sony that are usually $300-$400 more. I think the P-series a good step up, especially for the higher brightness, but dollar for dollar I don’t think you can do much better than the M-series.

So far I really have been liking this tv alot. I went from a 50 inch 1080p plasma and decided to pick this Quantum series after doing alot of looking around a different models. So far the picture quality is stunning. 4k movies look incredible on the screen. With the support of Hdr 10 the colors look really sharp and crisp. Even blu ray movies look really good. I have to say compared to the plasma tv I have had since 2008 and recently upgrading to the Quantum series Vizio has. I am very impressed how color and images look much better and a step up from plasma. I was concerned with how the deep blacks would come out on this series. Movies with dark scenes like Prometheus and Alien Covenant in 4k had a much better natural look to them than on a plasma. Setup was very easy and connected right up to a home wireless network.

This Vizio M558-G1 TV is amazing at 55 inches, it has deep blacks ,great contrast and wonderful eye popping colors. Once you watch this TV for a while ,no other screen or computer monitor looks good anymore. I initially bought the 50 inch version which is the M507-G1, i noticed it wasn't that bright and the contrast wasn't that good so i returned it for the 55 inch version and the difference is night and day, u simply have to see it for your self especially when u watch 4k HDR10 content. There are a couple of things that i will advice before u can truly unlock the potential of this TV ; the first thing is to get new 4K HDR10 60Hz high bandwidth compliant HDMI cables, trust me it matters. I used old hdmi cables and 4k content did not load properly and i was having black screens and reloads, u can pick up good cables on the web for about $15.The second thing is that you will need to activate UHD color on the TV, it is off by default on all the HDMI ports except on the ARC HDMI 1 port which is used for sound input for your soundbar and passthrough video input. All you need to do is to press the Menu button on your remote, scroll down and select input settings, select the HDMI port from the other 3 available HDMI ports that you want to use and turn the Full UHD color to on. I have no clue why Vizio left this off by default , u would think it should be automatically set to On by default. After you do these 2 things , u will see this TV in its full glory. One thing i also noticed is that 4K Dolby Vision HDR wont work when u enable UHD color . UHD color is needed for the other HDR version which is known as 4K HDR 10. In conclusion, this TV is amazing and its available for under $500, which i consider is an amazing price. U wont regret this TV, i am absolutely loving it.

This TV is, in my opinion, the best that you can get in the mid-range market. Clear picture, brilliant colors (thanks to Vizio's Quantum Color technology), and I love the inclusion of the Dolby Vision standard for HDR. My only (albeit minor) complaint is that the SmartCast system is a bit cumbersome and loads a little slower than I'd like. However, the inclusion of a built in Chromecast makes it so that you'll never have to use the built in UI unless you really want to.

This tv is a solid performer. The black levels are good and the local dimming works very well to produce a solid picture without halos or banding. Since there is no longer a P model 55” I was worried about quality of the M series. After having it a week that is no longer a concern. This will really be worth it once the typical $100 price reduction takes place in a few months.

I just got this today after previously returning the Sony x800e. The picture quality and color richness is AMAZING !!!! I am in awe. I highly recommend this TV. If you're a gamer, you will be mesmerized by the HDR performance. Unfortunately not all games support HDR but even in SDR, games will pop. This TV is outstanding !!!! Quantum is the truth !!!!

I have a 55 inch LG OLED in my living room. I wanted to replace the bedroom TV without breaking the bank. After researching budget 4K TV's, I chose the Vizio 55" Quantum Series with the 90 zones. It is truly a stunning display. The colors are vivid, the black levels are deep and the contrast and brightness are excellent. I did hook up surround speakers to my receiver. But I did check out the built-in TV speakers. I was pleasantly surprised to find they sounded pretty good. Vizio has really stepped up their game. I highly recommend the M and P series.

Pros: Picture quality that packs a major punch for the cost. Dolby Vision, True HDR at 600 nits, deep blacks comparable to an OLED TV. It's really, really impressive when watching content. Cons: The streaming features for iOS were very inconsistent. From an Android it was flawless. There is no app store to download new apps from - you are stuck with what they give you unless you stream apps from another device. Viewing angles could be better. Verdict: Purchase an Apple TV along with this and thank me later

I was in the market for something 55”, smart, 4K and with airplay capability. This product has met all of those needs at a very reasonable price. The color is great, the blacks are deep, and setup was simple. The only cons are - Sometimes the TV shuts off when switching inputs. - Airplay sometimes disconnects - The legs the TV comes with are really stupid. I ended up mounting mine and would recommend going this route if possible.

Scored this TV on sale for 499.99 and its the best 500 I've ever spent on a TV. The colors are great and the local dimming works very well. It's no oled but it is also a quarter of the price and I'd say more bang for your buck than any oled out right now. If you wanna be Ballin on a budget like me try out this TV. Input lag is very good also and my Xbox one X looks great! A couple of issues I've had I have been able to resolve and I'll let you know what and how to fix because I'm sure other people will run into the same issues. Issue one - Every day I would come home from work the TV would be on. For some reason if you have the power settings on Eco mode this happens. I switched to the quick startup and hasn't done it since. Weird but not a huge deal. Issue 2 - When using my Xbox the screen kept going black then after a few seconds it would come back on, constantly. This almost made me return it but I found a fix on a forum. On the Xbox display settings turn on 10bit for hdr settings. It seems when it's on 8bit it keeps switching from 8 to 10 when playing something in hdr. I haven't had the flicker problem since I switched to 10bit. Even at full price I believe this TV is worth it but there's always sales so I'd wait for one. Now hopefully it will last me as long as my LG tvs (10 years now)

I am completely blown away by this TV. The picture on this TV is the best I've seen for the price, even better than most twice the price. I bought this TV to replace my 2 year old 55" Samsung that broke during my move. I paid $800 2 years ago for that Samsung and I was crushed when I turned it on to find it broke. I believe things happen for a reason because this Vizio blows that Samsung away. Better color, clarity, brightness, and contrast are far superior to the Samsung. With it set on Calibrated Dark it is just so perfect. Only thing better would be an OLED TV

Good for the price but not great. Was interested in a Samsung qled tv but didn't want to pay the $$. Really wanted qled technology and found Vizio. Happy with the Dolby vision and hdr and color but there are some flaws. The HDMI 1 port is not reliable for full 4k HDR. It flickers and if you have a sound system that uses arch then that is a problem. I use optical so that doesn't matter. I dont use the sound built in so can't review that. Limited amount of apps and I don't want to use Chromecast for videos but for audio Chromecast works great. Vizio support is good and helpful and i like that you can chat online with their agents. Beautiful picture for the most part some Some Dolby Vision shows are dark but not the fault of the tv and you can brighten the picture easily. Overall good value. Wish there were more features built in.

Pros: Picture is beautiful!! Sound can get very very loud. Smart TV options are pretty good, if cumbersome sometimes. Cons: Died after less than 2 years. Sound isn't as rich as it is with a sound bar (volume tends to make up for depth, which is unfortunate for this size screen). Takes awhile to restart. Often turns itself off for no reason, has to be rebooted (takes a few minutes each time), and errors out for no obvious reason. Would I buy it again? Probably not. Next time, I'd go with something a bit more quality. A good picture and loud sound doesn't make up for shallow sound and dying young.

I have been buying Vizio TVs for quite a while for there quality, value, ease of use and painless setup. Once you adjust the calibration settings from the factory settings it's pretty good. My parents love it as it's an upgrade from their 10yr old Vizio 42". There are better slightly less affordable TVs for gaming to utilize lower input lag Vizio P-series for example) and a better native refresh rate but the costs can skyrocket pretty fast. Recommended image settings (change all inputs to calibrated dark): -backlight 55 -brightness 50 -contrast 50 -color 50 -tint 0 -sharpness 5 or 10 (10 if using an antenna) Under more picture settings for calibrated dark: -color temp normal -black detail off/low (personal preference) -active full array medium -clear action off (not available on this model) -reduce noise off -gamma latency off -film mode on -color space auto -gamma 2.1 or 2.2 (personal preference) If you want a brighter image... especially if you are in a room with a decent amount of light, DO NOT adjust the brightness up as it will degrade the overall image quality and picture...ADJUST the BACKLIGHT to your heart's desire.

I've had this for a little over 2 weeks now and I am absolutely blown away! I upgraded from a Sony rear projection TV and it's a night and day difference. The OS isn't the greatest as it lags and the wifi radio in the TV is OK. I have a 4k Roku Streaming Stick and it works really well. 4K and HDR content looks spectacular. I love the local dimming which creates deep blacks. Before pulling the trigger, I was a bit hesitant due to the reviews stating the viewing angles are subpar. While the colors are a bit washed out when viewing off-center, it's not terribly noticeable unless you're comparing it specifically. It's also significantly better than my previous TV. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but it handles my PS4 pretty well. I've also read about playing the panel lottery when purchasing this TV. While I have noticed a slight dirty screen effect in a scene that's mostly a cloudy sky, it's not distracting and every other type of scene looks good. It appears to handle motion well with the limited amount of sports I've watched. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and, if Vizio can further improve their OS, it can be a perfect TV for my needs. I would recommend it, but make sure you have something like an Apple TV, Roku or Fire Stick.

I initially purchased an LG IPS panel tv and after a week returned it since we really only sit directly in front of the tv and I was bothered by the lack of contrast and depth IPS panels tend to have over VA panels like this one has. I had read a little bit on the difference between the two panels but really was not aware until testing one for a week, that I needed a VA panel. (If you have an L shaped couch and have people viewing at wide-angles, then maybe an IPS panel will work for you since you don't lose picture quality from the side like with a VA) This Vizio is a very inexpensive QLED that I nabbed for just under $500 on a pre Black Friday sale. The colors are very vibrant, has excellent contrast and depth. Watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 in 4K blew me away. I do agree with one review that criticized the tvs ability to upscale standard def content, but we really watch mainly HD content now so that is not really a problem for us. I had read that there are 2 versions of this tv, one model that ends in an 8 that has 600 nits of brightness and the other ends in a 7 that has only 400 nits of brightness. The ones from Best Buy are the better models - end in 8. I was really glad that I had read that. One issue that many have had with this unit is the Wi-Fi logging off, but this has only happened once so far. I can't speak to the audio since I have my surround system hooked up to it. I even liked the packaging since Vizio made a 2 part box that you can just slide the top piece up and there is the tv which I lifted up myself (I have the 55 inch). I thought that was a brilliant design. They really seemed to have put a lot of thought into the packaging which other manufacturers do not. The LG was much harder to get out of the box. I also liked that the feet are metal unlike others that are plastic. I normally stick to Sony or Samsung for tvs, well I did try an LG but that only lasted a week, and was a bit nervous getting a Vizio, but I have been extremely impressed with this tv so far. We do have a mid-range 50 inch Sony 4K (also a VA panel) as well and this Vizio is much brighter. So, if you are looking for a cheap QLED, and do not want to sacrifice picture quality, then grab this tv!

I did a lot of research before buying this TV. I was looking at this one, the Samsung RU model and the Sony X800G which are around the same price range. Sony and Samsung products tend to be much more expensive as compared to Vizio or TCL. Eventually I decided to gamble with this TV because it's cheap and it has Dolby Vision. Pros: +Images are bright and beautiful. I could notice a huge difference between this one and my old LG TV. +Sound is okay, not bad. Since I also got the Sony soundbar together with this one, it's no problem for me. +Outputs: there are 4 HDMI ports. One HDMI ARC for my soundbar, one for my Fire TV stick, one for my PS4 and last one for my Switch. +It is the only TV at this price range that supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10+. If you plan to subscribe to Disney+ then this TV is a great choice. Cons: -No Bluetooth, so if you considering buying a TV with Bluetooth, this one is not for you. But I think you can plug in a Bluetooth receiver. -Interface is very slow, not smooth at all. Sometimes I press power on and it takes quite a while to load. -Remote control is thin and flimsy. Its build material is worse than my Fire TV control. Final thought: It has just been one month since I last bought it. Don't know how long it's gonna last. Hope there would be no issues in the future. Note: one thing though. If you use the Fire TV stick on this TV to watch Disney+, make sure you change the display/resolution setting on the Fire TV stick to match it with that of the TV (a.k.a. 4K) or else you're gonna encounter some display issues.

This TV has a wonderful picture and some of the aerial shows make some of us a little oozy from depth of the picture and its quality. The set up for TV is easy and intuitive. It has Smartcast built in and I have not been able to download other streaming channels or apps so I have to "cast" them from another device. I will just go ahead and buy a Roku device and use that rather than the Smartcast. There are 4 HDMI ports on the TV. The color and imagery on this set far exceeded my expectations!

Bought this to replace a 2 yr old samsung suhd ks8000 series that like most other ks series tvs the screen went out and is a 900+ dollar fix. (I hope there is a class action suit on this someday) The picture is stunning for a vizio tv. Not quite oled but pretty close to my lg c9’s quality! The only draw back I have found is the fact that if the tv is powered off and you accidentally hit any button on the remote it will turn on the tv. Haven’t been able to figure out if this is a defect or not. Doesn’t seem to be any mention on the internet, however there are complaints of the tv turning on by itself. Therefore I’m thinking either people are bumping the remote or maybe have a cat or something stepping on it in the middle of the night. I know I have turned the tv on by accident reaching to hit the snooze on my alarm!
