After owning numerous TVs over the years, my last one being a Sony 4K, I can confidently say this is the best one yet. Colors are very strong with phenomenal contrast. It's no OLED, but local dimming helps those blacks stand out more. Because of this, there isn't much backlight bleed. It's even less noticeable in well lit rooms, but still holds it's own in darkly lit areas. What you get overall is a great picture, and for this price, it's unbeatable.

I have an OLED TV from a few years ago so my expectations aren't very high for an LED tv, however, we needed a tv for one of our rooms and this did not disappoint! The screen uniformity is excellent and the colors are vibrant. They don't pop like a Samsung QLED tv but the black levels are spectacular, and for the price, a reasonable sacrifice. We had the Q60, which did not have local dimming, and while bright images popped, the terrible black levels ruined the experience. With this M Series however, the local dimming did an excellent job of keeping the screen pretty dark where it needed to be without intense light bleed. Is it as good as an OLED? Absolutely not. But it is an excellent LED TV for the money.

I had a Samsung Qled before this that I returned. And this one is miles better to be honest. I love it. The price is great. The picture quality is great. And I love that local dimming zones. The blacks can get pretty dang black. Highly recommend. I looked into so many TVs and even bought a different one and returned it so if you’re on the fence I’d say go for this one. It’s awesome.

Blacks are nice and deep. Very good color quality right out of the box. For the price this is a great tv. The only issue is the tv apps. I would recommend that you wire your network to this. So far connecting has been flaky. Although it may be an IP conflict. Resetting my router usually fixes the issue. The clarity of the picture on this screen is outstanding! The colors pop and the set up has been the easiest I have ever experienced. It automatically picked up my fire stick and loaded it and all my apps were ready and functional once I signed in. The volume is great, but you do have to turn it to a higher number then previous owned televisions. I would purchase this model again in a heart beat!

Don’t buy!

Please don’t buy this TV. It ran well for 4 years, games, shows, movies. And then Vizio did some kind of update and my whole screen turned red. There are a lot of forums out there that talk about people using the TV and then all of a sudden it happens. I spoke with Vizio and they said it’s a hardware issue and that they weren’t going to do anything about it and that I should just be a new TV.

First, picture quality is exceptional, even from close up. 1080p upscaling is some of the best I’ve seen. From a normal distance it’s hard to tell my PS4 and Switch are not 4K sources.
Local dimming is really good but only if you’re watching from straight on. Off axis viewing shows a lot of halos around highly brightened objects. It’s no OLED, but the colors are fantastic. Bolstered with the fantastic local dimming from head on, you could almost convince someone it was.
HomeKit and AirPlay support built in is super nice. I can turn off the tv from my iPhone in the home app alongside 0 latency casting to the tv speakers alongside my HomePod. Google Chromecast is nice. It’s like having a Chromecast ultra built in, but I prefer to stream everything over AirPlay which is seamless.
The speakers built in are actually usable as far as sound quality. Especially since they have excellent stereo separation given the built in DTS Surround II support.
So far the best streaming experience has been from Disney+ which supports 4K and Dolby Vision and Apple TV+ Which supports 4K Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
Honestly a great buy for the price. You’re getting quite a few nice to haves for a competitive price.

So far I’ve had this for about a month. And I can say that I am very please with this TV , and also very surprised at the extra apps and stations that you get with this . I wanted a TV for my garage. Did my research on a Vizio 50” . I wanted YouTube and iHeartRadio.. for automotive research and music.. but when I went to purchase it, the sales person suggested the 55” that was returned after Christmas.. it was $50.00 cheaper then a 50”.
it was geek squad inspected, it had the same warranty as a new one so I couldn’t go wrong.
Very Nice colors . Sound is good .. I’m very happy with this..

Almost perfect picture sooo close but had DSE "dirty screen effect "
it wasn't the worst but when playing games could see it sometimes
.the blacks are amazing so close to my old OLED, color,HDR,bright screen, low blur, good input lag etc.
I returned and hope to get another one with a little less DSE..

I’ve been targeting this tv for years. The M series 55” model has a great picture certainly after using Rting.com to calibrate it. The dimming zones, brightness and contrast were my main interests and they did not disappoint. The smart features are a bit lacking but not my concern with the use of an Apple TV.

Great tv, great picture. HDR really pops....when you can get it to work. It took some time to figure out how to properly connect to my PS4 such that the HDR support would activate. Also, it appears 1 of the 4 HDMI outputs is not working properly (which caused the issue with the HDR activation). But other than that, I have no complaints. Love the picture, love the size. Also love the fact that I can use both Chromecast and Airplay (comes in handy for Apple TV and Disney+) . Definitely a worth while purchase!

I’m impressed with the blacks and clarity.
Pros: Newer 1080p content on amazon and 4K looks amazing, but maybe just great! Not all 1080p on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu etc wont look good.
Cons:
-Horrible Motion
-Horrible upscaling. Comcast 720p and 1080p looks like 480p!!! My $300 Black Friday 49” LG did way better.
-Best Buy rep said they’re TAKING OUT VIZIO Wall out of bestbuy next year because people are RETURNING a lot of them. Still have 5 days if I’m going to keep or return it honestly. Some many pros, but so many cons. Literally the everyday user won’t enjoy it because most content won’t upscale well at all.
This is not some fake paid advertisement like many above. Funny how many people are “so technically!” I have tech background and degree and I’m not even breaking it down. Was going to buy the PX75 yet those reviews are worse than the PX65 and the 75 has about 100 or so more local dimming arrays. First time buying a Vizio, and possibly won’t spend the $2500-3500 for the VIZIO PX75! I’d rather get the Samsung Q90 R for that money.i hate writing this stuff. For what I paid for the 55” M558-G1. I’ll live if I keep it. Unfortunately, I see everything good and bad with this tv so it’ll suck to return it, but still deciding.
Hope this helps. If you buy it.... you’ll quickly see what I’m saying. But hard to find a better tv for the money if I had to pick.

I've historically bought Samsung in the past, for their quality picture and durability. I've owned 1 Vizio in the past and it had issues after 6 or 7 years of use, so it's been a while since I was willing to go back. But this Vizio offered more features (HDMI ports, Apple Airplay, Smart Cast, etc.) that were equal to, if not better than, some of the larger Samsungs. So I tried it out, and after a month I'm thoroughly impressed. It's very easy to use the Airplay and Casting (mostly for Disney+ and some YouTube). I bought a matching Vizio sound bar and slim subwoofer and the combination is outstanding. I may buy a second set for my master bedroom. Highly Recommend.

easily a 5 star tv hampered by sluggish software.
picture quality top notch. solid brightness in bright rooms. volume of built in speakers is pretty substantial.
the software offers a lot of choices but it’s somewhat sluggish at times when making selections or opening streaming apps.
definitely worth the price given its software updates and the addition of more services for free.

The picture on this TV is absolutely stunning for the price. I doubt that there is a similarly priced 55" TV on the market that can beat the image quality on this Vizio. It replaced a 15 year old Panasonic Plasma that was top-of-the-line at the time I bought it. I was worried that I was going to lose image quality, but was very surprised at the massive improvement over my old plasma, especially when viewing 4k and HDR content. If this review were only to take picture quality intro consideration, I'd give it 6 out of 5 stars for the price.
Unfortunately I had to bump it down a star for two reasons.
The main reason is the poor WiFi adapter in this TV. I have three other devices sitting within 5' of this TV which all receive 5 bars and plenty of speed from my router. Yet this TV somehow only gets 3 bars of signal strength and oddly slow speeds. Watching streaming 4k content will result in some short pauses now and then, depending on the service I use. CBS All Access is the worst. The second reason for the 4 star rating is the processing speed of the smart features. The interface is very nice, and somewhat customizable. The free content is incredible and much more than I had anticipated. But navigating the interface is a bit slow and clunky. If this were my only issue, I'd gladly give the TV 5 stars, but coupled with the iffy WiFi speed I can't give this TV higher than 4.5 stars (if I could - I wish BB would let us do 1/2 stars).
For the price at this size (55") you will not find a better picture. Just be aware of the sluggish smart TV interface, and the mediocre WiFi speeds.

Got a Lemon

Got a lemon. The picture is very pixilated, grainy, a white light flickers on the bottom of the TV or has a brighter picture than the top, and I can see rectangular shapes on the TV during programing. I have a P55 (2018), an M55 (2017) and this model, and the M55-E0 is better then the M558-G1. The TV also freezes and won't change inputs at times either. Vizio sent someone out to replace a part, and it did absolutely nothing and the TV continues to get worse. Worst part is called Bestbuy cause the price dropped also and I'm outside the 15 days so can't get a match at $549 or a replacement from Vizio, even though this is the 3rd TV in 3 years, and 2 sound bars. Loyalty? Neither have it. Will be shopping elsewhere and a different brand moving forward. I'm sure if this TV worked properly, it would be a nice upgrade from the M55-E0, or P55-F1. Just waiting for this one to die out before switching brands and retailers.

Pros: The picture is sharp and the functionality of the tv itself is easy to use and I like how YoutubeTV is installed and you can navigate with the TV remote instead of Sling TV or other streaming service.
Cons: 1) As other users have said, the TV will randomly turn on, usually in the middle of the night. Therefore wasting electricity. Can't seem to figure how to stop this. 2) For a week now, whenever I turn the TV on the menu is blank. I essentially get a black screen with the menu bar above but nothing to select from. I usally have to unplug and restart the TV and then it will work, but this is very annoying and not sustainable.

Terrible experience with Vizio

I purchased this TV because of a good experience with my older Vizio TV. My newest Vizio is just 3 years old. When it was 2 years old several dark spot’s started appearing in the screen and are permanently there now! It will not hold a wireless connection..has to be hard lined into the internet..shuts itself down and I am literally sick over this! I paid 600.00 for this 55’ Vizio Smart TV and it only lasted 2 years! I did not buy the extra warranty because I couldn’t afford it! I called Vizio and they only offered me $150.00 credit on a new one! I will never purchase another Vizio TV. With it only being 2 years old at the time I would have expected better customer service!! Dissatisfied customer
