My 9 year old 55" TV died on Thursday the 23rd. I had been researching for the last 6 months in anticipation of this event. I have owned several Vizio TV's and have no issues. Read lots of reviews and didn't want to invest a ton of money. The Vizio M558-G1 went on sale for $479.00 at Best Buy. Bought the extended warranty. This TV was very easy to set up. The pre-set calibration settings work very well. We use the Calibrated for daytime viewing and Calibrated Dark for evening viewing. I haven't really done much with Smart Cast as on yet. Looks easy enough. You could spend two or three times this much and not notice the difference in picture quality. Black level is fantastic and colors really pop. Overall, very pleased with my purchase!

As mentioned in the tag line. When you watch sports you will realize how much of a panel lottery this is, more bad panels than good, but oh well. Not good for a sports watching den, especially football and hockey? My god. Just don’t do it. Overall the picture is stunning, 4K movies look incredible. A big issue is the blooming around subtitles. The dimming zone almost seem to be a disadvantage with this Tv than the advantage they are supposed to be. Alas it is a budget Tv, and is worth getting at the price. Probably won’t get another of the same model, but it has value as a starter 4K set.

I bought this during a pre-black Friday sale in Nov of 2019 and man, it's a great set! I use this primarily for playing my PS4 and it looks gorgeous. The 4K video is incredible and even the internal speakers are great. I mainly bought this for next fall when the PS5 comes out. Full HDR gaming is going to be amazing on this. Great apps are included including Hulu, Amazon, Plex, Netflix and Disney Plus. Pros: The price (paid $399). It's equipped with Dolby Vision (AMAZING if you have Disney Plus), HDR and a great picture. Very sleek, saves space. Cons: I wish it had more 4K HDMI inputs but I run everything through a receiver so that's whatever.

Awesome, high quality TV at a budget price. 4k/HDR/Local Dimming, vibrant color, deep blacks, built in chromecast. Only downside is that the built in chromecast does not display at 4k HDR.

The picture is great! Compared to a 2 year old VIZIO, this TVs color is much much better! The only Con is the speakers. Had to turn up the speakers to around 60 to have a sub normal listening experience. The room this TV is in is even on the smaller to medium sized living room. (The Samsung 46 inch TV that was 10 years old (kids cracked the screen) had much better speakers. So I went and got $200 2.1 Sound bar to compensate, but I had heard I would mostly have to do this, so I did not take a star away. And of course the built in VIZO app options are great. The TV switches between them fairly quickly. Remote is easy to use.

This TV helped us cut the cord...

This TV helped us finally cut the cord after months of "prepping" for life without cable. We actually purchased a Roku for our previous, 1st-gen (semi-)smart TV and decided that we didn't want to use a box of any type to watch TV. When we found the Vizio M-Series 55" 4K HDR with built-in Google Assistant, Chromecast, and apps we knew we had to have it... ***The Good*** COLOR & BRIGHTNESS: Very bright. Actually, too bright. We had to knock that down a bit. There are presets to make adjusting the brightness a breeze, plus advanced settings to tweak every element of the picture (and audio). PICTURE QUALITY: As mentioned, we cut the cable cord so everything is internet TV for us. We primarily use YouTubeTV, Netflix and Amazon. All three services have very clear, crisp images. Very little motion jitter. Easily viewed from any angle. Deep blacks and good contrast. Colors seem true. SOUND: Plenty loud through built-in speakers. Ours is hooked to a stereo system via the HDMI ARC port which is more reliable than our previous TV thru the HDMI ARC port. PHYSICAL: Quite lightweight for 55" but still requires an extra hand to mount on wall. Mounting in place of existing (5+ yr old flat panel) was no problem at all. 4 HDMI ports, only 1 USB port--I wish it had two USB as my antenna takes USB power as does the Roku box if we decide to add it back in. Wifi and ethernet. No bluetooth. SETUP: Easy enough. The onscreen setup guide is simple and functional, although we had to try twice before we got it successfully married to our Googly things. SMARTNESS: We are a Google family so the Assistant and built-in Chromecast were a MUST for us. Pairing to the Google Home, phones, stereo, etc. was fairly easy. There are several built-in apps and using the Assistant is cool: "Hey Google, turn on the Vizio TV and launch YouTubeTV please..." Casting works well too, HOWEVER... ***The Not So Good*** SMARTNESS (part 2): ...the TV relies a bit too much on CASTING rather than built-in apps. For example, we use YouTubeTV almost exclusively. It is a very well designed app, however, VIZIO does not include an installed YouTubeTV APP SHORTCUT on this model (or at least we couldn't find it nor figure out how to add it to the list of installed TV apps). We have to either launch then cast YouTubeTV from a phone/tablet/computer or rely on Google Assistant voice commands. It appears we cannot download the YouTubeTV app to this TV either. It feels weird having to speak to the TV to get it to launch an app. Early in the morning or late at night, or when others are in the room, speaking commands to the TV can be an annoyance. We also discovered that if we fail to add "...on the Vizio TV" our Google Assistant will assume we want YouTubeTV launched on our Google Home Hub. Additionally, it would be nice if there was an option to "automatically return to the previously open app" when you turn off/on the TV rather than landing on the "home" screen every time. REMOTE CONTROL: The controls on the remote are well thought out and give you easy access to everything you need. The remote was designed to work smart app menus and does that very well. Unfortunately, the physical design is poor. It is a bit too sleek and is not tapered nor does it have any other distinguishing features to help you determine if you are holding it backwards or not. The buttons are NOT backlit and are very sensitive. As a result, in a dimly lit room, I have picked up the remote multiple times not realizing it is pointed toward me. I hit an arrow thinking I am adjusting volume and instead change the channel. :-( Additionally, the smart app buttons on the remote are not customizable. ***OVERALL*** Very pleased with the price, size, color, clarity, brightness and performance of the Visio M-Series 55" HDR 4K TV. Very disappointed we cannot install the YouTubeTV app and instead have to Google Assistant the command to launch or launch + cast. Also not a fan of the remote. It just doesn't feel comfortable in my hand--too thin, too light, buttons are sensitive, can't work it in the dark, and no easy way to distinguish (without looking at it) which way it is pointing. Vizio made a very good TV, but the design of the remote control and inability to install the YouTubeTV app are personal disappointments. I REALLY HOPE that Vizio will offer a software upgrade that will embed YouTubeTV as an app shortcut on the home screen just like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu. Nonetheless, this is a very good TV with many great, modern features and would complement any existing "smart home."

I recently purchased a LG SK8000 55” tv and the picture quality is nice although it had very bad blooming effects when it displayed dark scenes. It was quite annoying and so happy I decided to give this a try. I did not want to do a tv return but I just couldn’t enjoy the LG. This vizio which is the M558 has stellar black performance! It is also very bright compared to that LG. And for the price you cannot beat all the options this tv has as well (google, Alex and Apple integration). I would highly recommend this television and vizio has come a long way from previous year models. It’s a high quality tv and a competitive price point

This is a pretty good deal for a TV with good color. The blacks are pretty good too. My main complaint is that the controls are non-intuitive. There should be pause/play, FF, REV, stop etc buttons on the remote not just on screen selection of these options.

This is the midrange model for the new Quantum Dot series of TVs. The setup was easy including connecting to WiFi and the picture is clear and crisp. It’s an excellent TV for a bedroom or Den but for the main TV I’d probably go with the P or PX seriesTV

The picture quality is good. It's easy to set up and the remote is simple enough to use. The only thing I didn't care for was out it sits on a tv stand. It has two little legs instead of a larger base that it sits on. It didn't fit on my tv stand so we had to purchase a wall mount for it instead.

Worked pretty well for limited use (downstairs), even though one of the HDMI ports was regularly failing. But we brought it up as the main TV for less than a year and it suddenly died on us, fading into these vertical colored bars.

The blacks are amazing on this. The color (dark calibrated) is actually pretty good out of the box just needed a minor tweak and it was perfect! The smart tv function not so great. It works fine for the most part but there's times where the wifi just cuts off and makes you restart the tv in order to regain connection. If you're using something else like a roku or chromecast then it's not really an issue. Couldn't beat this for the price at the time!

Purchased this in Late March 2020, review written in late January 2021. So after having the TV for several months, I do regret my purchase. I would like to think that the TCL 6-series, offered at the same time at the same price would have been the better buy. See the cons below as to why I feel this way. Primarily used for streaming and occasionally Bluray. Pros: Color quality - It's really good when sitting right in front of the screen, post-calibration. Just a few degrees to either side though gets an immediate wash. The full array with quantum technology really shines here. I can see why this gets such good reviews. Motion interpolation - quick actions and movement are quite sharp. Not nearly as sharp as my old plasma, but not much really is. Definitely passes the test though with sports and action scenes from movies. Cons: Remote - I've had to replace it twice. Absolutely useless build quality. Streaming platform - takes too long to load (sometimes not at all), doesn't offer content sorting, and constantly resets itself - dropping whatever "channel" you're in and returns to the home screen. Remote App - I wish I could say positive things about this. It has so much more potential, but constantly loses connection (without notification or reconnect attempt) and as-such loses all potential. I should have recognized these issues early and returned the TV. Since TCL gets similar reviews for the picture quality but uses Roku for its streaming platform, I should have chosen it. Perhaps in 3-4 years when I've convinced myself that the purchase is no longer something to be concerned about, or the TV just quits working, I'll buy something else. Still better than a Samsung.

I bought this specific model due to the brightness and the number of dimming zones. There are cheaper models, but they don't have anywhere near the brightness and dimming zones. This has 600 nits of brightness and 90 dimming zones. These make the picture incredibly detailed, with deep blacks instead of choppy transitions from black to gray. The smart apps are good, though the interface could be better. Primarily you will want this model for the image quality. And it will not disappoint.

After spending hours researching TVs, we decided upon the VIZIO 55" M-series Quantum one to replace our outdated 40-something inch. At first, I was hesitant after reading the reviews on this from other tech sites - I rely heavily on reviews and probably sink way too much time into researching my purchases. I thought, "This looks good, but if would spending $X more more a better viewing experience be worth it?" We strongly considered splurging on a TV with more bells and whistles, but ultimately decided that spending $1200+ wasn't the right move for us. I realize that we should take those tech review sites with a grain of salt - sure, there's value in the tests that they conduct, and of course they're going to say that another model that's more than double the price is going to perform better, but at some point enough is enough. And I'm happy to report that we LOVE this TV! It's been just over month since we started using it, and we are completely satisfied with our viewing experience. I can't speak to those that were having hardware issues, since we haven't encountered them - no cracks in the screen, burn in, fading, discoloration, etc. This might be a QC thing, but again, maybe we just got a "good one." I do have to note that we sometimes have trouble casting or connecting to some apps (it takes a while, or requires turning the TV on and off). But this isn't big enough of a problem to warrant a negative opinion. All in all: For the average viewer like myself, we want a TV that turns on, looks great, and sounds good. This TV hits all the marks on that front, plus with the addition of smart features (all the streaming apps built into the home screen, casting ability, etc.). If you care more about specs and have the disposable income to afford a more expensive TV, then sure, skip this one. But for under $600? This is a great purchase.
